Hyundai Sonata owners have reported 3 problems related to transmission fluid leaking (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Sonata based on all problems reported for the Sonata.
On may 7,2014 the Sonata was leaking transmission fluid on my garage floor. This vehicle is only two weeks old and about 700 miles on it. When o'brien Hyundai towed it to urbana, illinois. The service manager told me the transmission had leaked one quart of transmission fluid. He also stated one of the ports had not been sealed at the factory. When pressed he told me the transmission fluid could have caught on fire. He also stated when the car ran out of fluid it would just lock up. Frightening thought of the car was traveling 70 mph. Thanks for your time in this matter.

While stopped at a busy intersection, with enginine running and clutch to the floor (disengauged), the car began to lurch against the brake. The clutch began engaging by itself because the concentric slave cylinder had failed at 61,500 miles. The dealer advised the car was 1,500 miles out of warranty, total cost to repair was $1950. 00 and 3 days of service. Because the leaking hydraulic fluid "soaked" the clutch, the $794. 00 clutch/preesure plate needed replacement as well. Hyundai will not honor any "goodwill" adjustment.

I have a 2003 Sonata bought new in July 2003, now has 11000 miles. 3 weeks ago texaco discovered a leak around the rt. Cv joint. I took it to key Hyundai who said they fixed it. It was still leaking as of yesterday. Yesterday I was driving home from work when I heard a rattle from the rear. My engine started ticking. Suddenly the car shot forward and sounded like something fell out from the back. I was about 100 ft from my driveway (thank goodness this did not happen on the interstate) so I pulled in with a trail of red fluid following me. My driveway is now covered with this fluid. The key Hyundai of jacksonville had someone bring me a loaner car and said they'd clean up the spill. I had the car towed to them. No word yet. I travel the interstate before dawn daily and home again sometimes very late. I can't imagine what would have happened if this occured during those times. I will never trust this car again and refuse to drive it again. It scares me. I want my money back.
