The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost automotive power. The vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder lane, engine oil was added, and the contact waited for several minutes for the vehicle to return to normal operation. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer suggested that the contact occasionally add oil to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced and that an oil change was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,400.

2 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/14/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving approximately 50 mph, the engine started knocking, and the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was consuming one quart of oil every week. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the engine was blown. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the drive belt was frayed, the crank pulley was deteriorating, and that there was a misfire in cylinder #4. The catalytic convertor dtc code: p0240 was displayed, the exhaust was burned, and there was excessive oil consumption. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. There was no assistance provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

6 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the catalytic converter, spark plugs, and coil packs were replaced. Eight months later, the failure returned and the same mechanic informed her that the evaporated oil had melted the catalytic converter and referred her to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer on three separate occasions and each time the catalytic converter was replaced; however, despite the numerous replacements, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 140,963.
