3 Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

I bought my 2017 with 38,000 miles on it and I drove a total of 400 miles a week for work. I had been taking it to the local Hyundai dealer for routine service and not one time did they mention that it was burning oil or even low when they would change it. We decided to start doing it ourselves and when my husband did the next oil change he noticed it was completely empty of oil and there were no leaks visible. 2,400 miles later my engine light comes on and we had to add 5 quarts of oil to the car and the ticking that I though was maybe the ac going or something like that, just suddenly stopped. It ran in my driveway the next morning for 10 to 15 min warming up for me to go to work. I drove 4 miles with no abnormalities in sound or drivability. Then all of a sudden I heard this loud screeching noise and my car died. I got it to start back a second time and was lucky enough that I coasted the 1/2 mile around hills and corners to be able to get pulled into a driveway and out of the road before it completely stopped rolling. It is now sitting at the carmax that I bought it from awaiting a new motor. I was informed that the root cause was apparently a bad ring or gasket in the 3rd cylinder that goes around the piston. My oil light never one time came on to tell me there was ever any issues nor did it give me any indication . I was up to date on my oil changes and it had only been 2,400 miles like I said, since the last one. It has 70,000 miles on it now and needs a brand new motor due to a motor malfunction that was caused by the manufacturing of the motor. Had I not been able to cost out of the road, I could have been seriously injured or killed just trying to get my car and myself to a safe location.

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

I was driving on a rural road at about 45 mph. I started hearing scratching noise from engine. The engine started losing power. I stopped my car, called aaa to have my car towed to wile Hyundai. The dealer service department said my engine has to be replaced, the car is under manufacturer warranty, but they need an approval from Hyundai motors USA to get a new engine. One week ago I contacted Hyundai customer service to check the status of my case. I was told I would be contacted within 3-4 business day by Friday, Mar 5, 2021. As nobody called me, I contacted customer service again today, Mar 9, 2021, and the response I received is the same, I was told I would be contacted within 4-5 business day.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

According to an attorney mu engine is a nu engine. As far as I know no recalls or lawsuits are pending. Car was driving fine, lost all power to a very slow creep, making a very strange sound in engine, fried starter and now won't work at all. Everything people say the theta ii engine complaints have been we are experiencing with this car. . . But it has not been recalled. We have noticed extra oil consumption but figured due to high mileage. We had a mechanic come out and he said the thinks the engine is fried or there is serious problems. This vehicle is only 6 years old. This all during covid, my husband is high risk we had to go buy another car as we do not have money to fix. I now have 2 hefty car payments with 1 vehicle working. I need help to know if this engine displaying all the same problems will too be recalled .

8 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

I was driving on I-75 in broward county and I decided to pass a vehicle in front of me, when I accelerated, the car made a very strange sound and started to loose power. . . It started to slowing down by it self, so I decided to get out from I-75, luckily we were close to one rest area where we could park and call someone for help. Before calling anyone, we try everything on the car. My brother-in-law checked the battery, which was good, the electrical was working fine for few more minutes and started to shut down slowly. Everybody said that was very strange. . . They said my car was not suppose to be in that situation. It is with 70,000 miles, in an excellent condition and the maintenance is up to date. I called the towing truck for pick up and parked it on my cousin driveway where is till today. Now, I don't know what to do. It will be expensive to fix it, and I don't have the money. I didn't received any recall for "engine failure" on this specific car, all though I found on the internet a lot of complaints with the same problem on same year and model.

9 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/28/2020

Driving my 2012 Hyundai Tucson in jersey city, NJ, engine start making a noise, I stopped, it was no any light on on my dash. Shot off my car, the stars again, noise was still on. . . . Take a car to Hyundai dealership, left there for couple days, then resilt is coming? car needs a full engine . I have maintained my car with oil changes and the car has 56700 miles. There are numerous reports of failure of the theta ii 2. 4 liter engines, which my car has, yet no recall issues. Will be around $6000 dollars, Hyundai dealer tells me, my car will not cover by warranty, because I'm not a first owner I'am concerned that there is a defect in the engine that poses a risk to life. And Hyundai manufacturers should take a full responsibilities of their engine failures on Tucson vehicles.

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/15/2020

My Hyundai Tucson has approximately 67000 miles on it. I had it in prior to warranty expiring for engine noise. I was told noise was normal. Ans no service needed. I had the next routine oil change and no issues noted. I checked my oil 2 days ago and I routinely do and it was registering no oil on dipstick. I have no oil leaked on driveway or clients drives where I park daily. I out oil in and immediately take to dealership. They called later to ask. If I had purchased a extended warranty? why ask this? then said they would call once they knew the issue. They called later to let me know I had metal shavings in my engine and it would need replacement. I was very unhappy. They told me they would submit for a "goodwill" repair from Hyundai. They came back they will pay 90% of the short block only. I let them know I was not happy with this and they will try for more coverage since it will need more than the short block. I asked the type of engine in the car and can not get a direct answer. All these issues are once found in the recalled models. I feel I have done everything as a consumer to keep my car in good running order. This engine issues with Hyundai need addressed in full. We all. Need reliable vehicles to work and with the costs of vehicles today they should be safe and reliable. This car has also been having the acceleration problems notes by many others. You press the gas pedal and go nowhere. Then it finally decides to go.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/19/2020

As I'm driving on the highway, I hear a strange sound from the engine. I look at the dash but warning lights are on. I start making may way to the right lane to exit the highway, but the car starts to slow. I look at the dash again and the low oil light and check engine light are on. I make my way to the shoulder and the car completely starts running. Shortly after, a tow truck takes the car to a nearby mechanic shop. The next day, the mechanic tells the Hyundai Tucson threw a rod and the engine is destroyed. The mechanic says he has seen this before. I've found several complaints about the same thing. This is a dangerous issue and it is unfair to consumers. The 2014 Hyundai Tucson has only 85,602 miles on it.

14 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

I purchased my 2018 Hyundai Tucson limited 1. 6l forward drive new in November 2018. I started experiencing problems a few weeks after my purchase. The vehicle is slow to accelerate at times and other times the vehicle lurches/accelerates forward at a high rate of speed with my foot on the brake pedal. For instance, I was at a drive thru with my foot on the brake pedal and my Tucson began to accelerate forward. I was so afraid that I was going to hit the car in front of me that I turned the vehicle off. On numerous occasions it has lurched/accelerated forward with my foot on the brake pedal. Other times when I begin to accelerate after stopping at a stop light the vehicle just hesitates to move at all. It is very slow to accelerate for a turbo vehicle. Concerning my brakes, my brakes are making a high pitch squealing sound. I have taken my Tucson in for service for the brake issue, and I have been told that there is nothing wrong and that is the noise that Tucson brakes make. Brakes do not make a high pitch squealing noise for no reason at all. Also, I took my Tucson to be serviced for the engine/transmission problem and I was told that there was nothing that they could do about the problem. This SUV is a deathtrap. The 2018 Tucson 1. 6l needs to be recalled and the engine replaced with a 2. 4l engine and the brake system needs to be redesigned.

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

I was taking left into my drive, in front of oncoming traffic, the engine sounded like it was revving, but I had absolute no power. Luckily I got enough power eventually to get into the driveway without getting hit. I have had this happen repeatedly in this car. It has been into the deal once and they said they updated the software but it has started happening again. This is so dangerous. I never know exactly what I'm going to get when I step on the gas. The dual action clutch is awful and I was not informed about it even having this when I bought it. Otherwise, I would not have bought it.

16 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

May 10th, 2018 while driving on the highway, I heard a strange noise and my car would not accelerate. I managed to make it home and my husband said to have it towed to dealership, engine was knocking. The safety risk would be the car suddenly stalling in the middle of highway traffic. The dealership confirmed it was engine failure.

17 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

Driving vehicle when engine lost power, engine began to make pinging noise under the hood, vibrations began and then proceed with knocking. Engine seized up.

18 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

The engine started making noise and caught on fire. It was running.

19 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

I pushed on the gas to accelerate and nothing happened except the rpms spiked to around 5-6k and the engine sounded as if I were in neutral and revving it up aggressively. This has subsequently happened dozens of times when traveling between 30 and 65 mph. It is scary, especially when I need to accelerate, say in a passing situation or when traveling to get out of the way. I've taken the vehicle to Hyundai (sheppard in eugene/springfield, or) twice for this issue. Both times, they kept it overnight and returned it to me without fixing anything saying: 1) I was the only one in the world who reported this problem, 2) they couldn't replicate the problem, and 3) there is nothing wrong with my vehicle.
