36 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2017

My wife's 2014 Jeep Cherokee has 40k miles on it and about a month ago she took it in for service because it started shuddering/vibrating and then shut-off/stalled on her and displayed service transmission. We had it towed to a local dealer here in va and they said it was software recalls that addressed this issue. We took it back 2 more times to this same dealership and they second time they said conveniently that another software fix had come out to fix the issue but we had to pay for it regardless of having the extended warranty because as the service tech put it things break. The third time they told my wife it was her fault for over filling the gas tank while pumping since the issues seem to happen without fail every time she has filled the car up to a full tank since the first issue. Now we are taking it to another dealer for the same issue (4th time no fix).

38 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

While driving and turning around the corner, vehicle lost power but I was able to drive to the side of the road. It also did this the following day. After a internet search, I found out that the vehicle will lose power such as this if the oil is low. After checking the oil dip stick, it was low by 2 quarts. No oil indicator displayed in the vehicle. After adding the oil, the stalls went away.

39 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2016

Vehicle being considered for lemon policy. Vehicle is surging / moving / creeping when stopping at less than 2 mph. Wife will no longer drive due to safety concern. Has forced us to seek rental vehicle until Chrysler approves solution. Transmission "klunking" during 2nd to 3rd gear shift change. Recent hesitation from engine when starting in 1st gear as normal. This is new transmission and appears to be getting worse since replacement and stall issue reported during highway driving which forced veicle to side of road with no power. Dealer notified. Chrysler will not authorize rental vehicle until resolved, very dangerous situation to continue to drive.

44 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

My car stalls randomly (approximately every 1000 miles) while I'm driving (in motion). There is no warning. This last time the car stopped when I was traveling 70 miles per hour on hwy 5 - just died right in the lane!! it has also stalled at busy intersections, on onramps, huge hills etc. I finally - after 10 visits to the Jeep repair shop - understand from the dealership that the car needs a new engine to fix the problem. But they say this is acceptable under Jeep guidelines and won't pay for the new engine. . . I've put over 20 quarts of expensive synthetic oil in my car over the past year and never know if the car will be safe to drive. This is the worst car I've ever had and I'm disgusted with Jeep. By the way - I just found out it needs a fifth recall - part still in development (as always). When I asked the woman who told me of this new development, she couldn't explain what the risk is while we wait for the new part. In 2 1/2 years of owning this piece of crap car, I've had five recalls and over a dozen stalls. . . I'm so angry and bummed.

45 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2016

The Jeep continues to stall with no warning in traffic, causing a serious risk of collision. The vehicle has also experience unwanted and automatic acceleration, also causing a serious risk of injury. A leaky break line was just replaced. The vehicle only has 27,000.

46 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

The vehicle has stalled at slow speeds several times over the last few weeks while making slow speed turns or coming to a stop. The vehicle will not re-start for several minutes and only after several attempts. The dealer has investigated the problem but cannot duplicate the problem. It is definitely a safety concern as the ehicle is stranded in the road.

47 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

Bought this at steve jones Jeep in owensboro ky in may of 2014. I took it back to them 4 times complaining about transmission shifting erratically. This is a similar complaint that I have read over and over about on this site and other forums. Jeeps response is to do an other software download. They did 2-3 software reloads but said it was running normal and there was nothing they could do. I have learned to deal with it for last 1. 5 years. It has days where it shifts really rough other days it is great. My friends joke with me whether my car is having a good or bad day, seriously! sounds funny but it has been really aggravating. Every once in a while it stalls when coming to a stop at stop signs/lights, or when taking off. To restart have to remove key and then it usually restarts fine. This morning it seemed to be running fine, I pulled out of subdivision and it stalled in middle of road. I tried restarting and it wouldn't, could hear fuel pump up and engine turned over then starter disengaged. During this I was nearly hit by a on coming car. I push if to side of road. After 8th or 9th try it finally started. It had a red warning "service transmission" and engine light on. It stalled several more times after putting in gear. It felt like it was stuck in 3rd gear. I shut it off for 10 minutes then restarted it and warnings were gone and it drove normal to work. Coming home it also stalled once while leaving work. Today was the first time this has happened that it nearly caused a major accident. I really fear this problem will end up in my death, I will end up killed in an accident because of a software glitch. I made another appointment foe this Saturday at dealer but I already know what the out come will be. They will reload the software and there will be no change. I can not afford to buy another vehicle but after this morning I feel I have to do something.

48 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at a low speed, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. In addition, whenever the heating or air conditioning units were activated, a mold odor emitted from the air vents. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The dealer speculated that the software needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired. After the repair, while driving down an incline at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated to move forward. The rpms increased. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the software was reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000. 00. The VIN was not available.

50 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2016

Have not had an issue yet, but am concerned there may be. I've had problems with the shifting/stalling/engine hesitation/transmission issues of my car since I purchased it on 2/19/16, with only 15,300 (approx) miles on it. Does fine on the highway, but all kinds of problems in town. The dealership is telling me there is nothing that can be done until Chrysler corp finishes the computer update to repair all this. Wanted this safety issue out there, in case something does happen. Very frustrating!.

51 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2016

Vehicle stalls sometimes around 20mph. Stalls when foot is left off the gas.

52 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2016

Transmission failure while driving. Car failed to accelerate while on a city street, transmission and parking light came on. When car was able to be re-started, loud "clunk" sound occurred when gears shifted. Car had to be towed to dealership. Fear for safety of me and my two children to drive car and have transmission fail and car stall while on the road. After researching and reading similar incidents that have occurred to countless others over a two year period, it is appalling that nothing has been done to warn customers of the deadly dangers of this car or that a recall or buyout has not happened. Many of us are now stuck with these dangerous vehicles with no recourse as of yet.

53 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2016

The vehicle was currently being repaired for the rear end damage. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

55 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2015

Car has been taken in to the dealer numerous of times due to transmission jerkin. In March 2015 the transmission was replaces and the jerking continuous. I have been taking the car in for the transmission jerking but according to the dealer they can't duplicate. As of November 26,2015; the car started to stall while in movement and I have to wait about 10 min for the car to start. So this means that the car stops in the middle of the street and freeways with going traffic and does not turn back on. It happened every day after that. On November 30, 2015; in a matter of 3 block the car stopped 3 times. I took the car to the dealer on December 1, 2015 and as of now they want me to pick up the car because they can not duplicate. To me is a matter of safety. I drive by myself with my 3 kids. I don't understand if they are waiting for something major to happen to me and my kids to do something about it. I have a trip planned for this weekend and honestly I don't even know if it would happen due to the insecurity of the vehicle. I have contacted manufacturing and they are doing nothing about it . Also, a bbb claim was done because of the issues with the transmission and there was nothing done about it either. I and getting ready to do another bbb due to the stalling as well.

56 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I was driving with my family in the car and while I was driving the vehicle suddenly stalled and then shut down. I immediately turned on my hazards and feared for my family's safety because I was on the highway. The vehicle would not start again. After trying for 10 minutes the vehicle started again and I was able to get safely off the highway. I immediately brought the vehicle in to the nearby dealership and was told there was no engine light and no information in the database stating something was wrong. They gave me the okay to drive the car. Then it happened again, this time I was right in the middle of an intersection when the car just completely stalled and shut down. It took 15 minutes to start back up again this time. Knowing the dealership wouldn't believe me. I had someone film it happening again while driving in the safety of a quiet lot. Reading about all the other instances in which this has happened to other owners has me very worried about my family's safety in this car. I have no desire to drive this car again even if they tell me it is completely fixed because they clearly have no idea why this is happening or how to permanently fix this. I'm astounded there hasn't been a recall yet. This is clearly a very serious accident waiting to happen.

59 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

February 20, 2015 7:02am rush hour traffic in norfolk, va. Coming out of the eastbound downtown tunnel entrance ramp onto 464 (interstate) to chesapeake, va, the vehicle revved high in red area about 3 to 5 seconds and would not accelerate. Coasted over to the shoulder, placed vehicle in park but vehicle rolled down the ramp. Set emergency break at this time. Dealer had it until February 24, 2015 and installed some software updates and stated that this would correct the issue. This was the fist time this occurred. It occurred again on March 6, 2015 rush hour traffic at 5:04pm on ramp entrance to the interstate 464 same issue occurred where the vehicle would not accelerate and was taken to the dealer. I receive it back from the dealer on March 24, 2015. During this time there were more software updates and the star had the transmission replace and was informed that there would be no other problems. May 1, 2015 at 5:09pm rush hour traffic on 264 (interstate) in a construction area with no access to a shoulder to get out of traffic and going up hill, the engine stops accelerating and slows to approximately 15mph in traffic that is moving 65 to 70 mph. Taken to dealer where star had the mechanics look over ever piece of the vehicle, download the computer and send the data to star. It was decided to change the drive train control module. It was returned to me on Friday, may 8, 2015 and is now downshifting at approximately 2mph hard into first gear, causing a jerk. This is three times in a ten week time period. I currently have a lemon law case with the Chrysler group. I have been told that a positive resolution will be determined by Friday, may 15, 2015. I no longer feel, comfortable or confident in this vehicles reliability or do I feel at all safe in this vehicle. It has put me in harms way three times in ten weeks.

60 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

Just entering the highway doing the speed limit of 70 mph with my newborn child all of a sudden my car suddenly stalled / shook/ and halted while trying to find a safe place to pull over on the higher way. The service transmission light came on. This is a huge safety concern that I had to somehow find a way to pull over on the side of a major highway with an infant in the car while my car was stalling out.

61 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

On 3 occasions now, my Jeep Cherokee has shut down/stalled as I was driving. It happened as I was accelerating between 50 and 55 mph. All the gages dropped and everything shut down. It lasted for about 5 seconds only and then everything came back up. On these occasions, I started to try to pull over to the side of the road, but did not have to. I've seen similar posts. I have the vehicle scheduled for work next week, but the dealership seems disinterested already. I have 3 other complaints on the vehicle as well. Three other issues: 1. The vehicle shifts hard between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. It is sporadic and doesn't always happen. 2. A rear shock has lost all of it's fluid. I've seen posts about this problem. 3. The airbag recall. So disappointing.

62 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

My brand new 2014 Jeep Cherokee is unsafe to drive. The engine/transmission began shutting off while shifting into lower gears, leaving my car disabled while in motion. After the car would come to a complete stop, it takes multiple attempts to turn the car back on. Moreover, the car will suddenly jerk/lunge forward while slowing down with the break. So far, this car has been into kendall Jeep in miami four times to fix the problem. First time, I was told computers were down and to come back. Second time, I was told the problem was software related. They updated my software and told me I should be good to go. As I was literally pulling out of the lot, the car stalled again. Third time, Jeep salesman brings me my car after it has been in the shop. He told me to leave the car as he felt the problems I was having. With no rental car, I had to take the car home. Very next morning, car stalled while driving again. I brought it back for a fourth time. This time a rental care was finally provided. They check the problem, and could find none. However, I have been video documenting all stalls and problems. The problem is real and the videos show this. Picked up car today, stalled again at the end of the day. Again, on video. Called Jeep to complain. Customer service told me Jeep will be in contact. Continually refused to provide me with an address to send my lemon law notification. Jeep has acted as an obstacle to consumers rights. In sum, the car is unsafe to drive. It stalls while driving. Jeep is not helping.

63 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

Similar to what occurred with the other posts, on Saturday my car stalled while at a stop sign. Disabled, the engine light and the service transmission indicator came on the dashboard. Following the advice of some helpful gentlemen, I was able to get the car home. On Sunday, I took the car to the dealer and the diagnostic test reportedly stated it was the transmission and then a subsequent call identified the issue as an electrical issue. I picked the repaired car up as directed and then the car stalled. I was almost rear-ended as the car was disabled with the hazard lights. I managed to coast the car into a parking lot by using the advice of the gentlemen and then called the dealer, this is the second time the car abruptly stalled. This time it would not start for me to pull into a parking space. I was asked to drive the car back to the dealer, I refused. After speaking to the general manager of sales, the dealer sent two people to bring the car back and the person driving my car stated it stalled twice but he knew how to get the car going. Monday I missed worked, Tuesday they provided a rental, today I picked up the car, and tonight I am in a dealer¿s rental that will need to be exchanged for another rental tomorrow. This has been a taxing experience that is not expected for a car that was purchased new at the end of April. This is my second Jeep but from what I am reading, there is something wrong with this car that needs immediate attention.

64 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2014

Vehicle was having severe issues shifting gears. Transmission warning light came on, less than a mile later the malfunction indicator light came on. Vehicle then lost 4wd capability. Vehicle seemed to stall out and max out at 20 mph. Car stopped a few blocks from my house while in a turning lane. Turned the car off and turned it back on, was able to barely make it home. Luckily, it was late night and no traffic. Could've cause a big accident. The vehicle sits here at the house right now because it will not run. Calling the dealership when they open tomorrow to try and find a resolution.
