1 Catalytic Convertor problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

The contact owns 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 5-10 mph after refilling the fuel tank, the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving after refilling the fuel tank. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power control module indicated a catalytic convertor failure as the inner part of the catalytic converter was missing. The catalytic converter was replaced. However, the contact stated while driving after refilling the gas tank, the accelerator was depressed but the vehicle hesitated to respond and made an abnormal loud grunting sound. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact became aware of Chrysler campaign number (powertrain control module). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for software update. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed the software update. However, the check engine warning light illuminated a year and three months later. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,245.
