1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

While driving down the road several times the past month my vehicle has shut down. All lights stay on in car and headlamps etc. But the engine shuts down you lose power steering and when you go to crank the engine over it will do nothing for maybe 5 to 10 seconds before you here the belts and fans start to crank. Had the starter, alternator and battery tested. Replaced the battery and it still does it just not as often.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

On June 15, 2020, I turned left onto a city street and my vehicle began making the warning sound, the same sound when the seatbelt isn't buckled. A few seconds later when I turned right into another city street, the battery level warning came on, then the entire dash lit up and the vehicle quit. After a few attempts to restart, the engine came back on. The next day after I made a left turn, the same thing occurred, the battery level flashed on the dash, then the entire dash lit up and the engine shut down. I wasn't able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. It took 5 attempts before the engine would restart. On the June 18th soon after I pulled out of my driveway onto a city street, the same event occurred, the dash lit up and the engine stopped, however this time I wasn't making a turn, but I had slowed down because another vehicle coming in the opposite direction had veered close to my side of the road. It took several attempts to restart the engine, and it soon cut off again before I got it back in the driveway. When this occurred, there is no way to guide the vehicle to the side. I was very fortunate that I wasn't hit. Now I am too scared to drive my vehicle.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/08/2019

While making a right hand turn the vehicle died. Attempts to restart were not successful. Vehicle was jumped and started. At that time the dash displayed "shifter service needed". Shifter was replaced. The day after shifter was replaced the vehicle began making a ding noise (similar to seat belt ding) while making a turn. Vehicle was taken to dealership and they said nothing was the matter with it. Two days after that while making a right hand turn the vehicle made a ding noise and stalled (vehicle was running but would not move). Vehicle was shut off and would not immediately restart. Vehicle restated eventually and was taken to the dealership again. After three days I was told this is due to low oil. They were not able to tell me how low my oil was but stated it would only need to be a quart low for this to happen and that Jeep is notorious for this.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

I have a 2018 Jeep Cherokee latitude. Purchased April 2018 with 17 miles on it. In November 2018 the service shifter light came on. Took it to the dealership where it was "fixed. " June 26, 2019 (28,670 miles on my car) I was driving to work going 35 mph when my engine shut off and I had no control over the vehicle. About a week before this happened I had been hearing a dinging noise, like when your seatbelt is off (just one ding though) and something would flash on my dash. It was so quick I was unable to see what it said. I started videoing my dash to try to catch the alert. I have video of my dash as the engine stopped and me trying to restart my car. (uploaded pictures of the service shifter but it will not allow me to upload the video) it took me 10-15 minutes to get it started back up. Drove it straight to the dealership. They said that my Jeep was a quart low on oil and that it was a "safety feature" that if you're low on oil your engine will just shut off. . . . No matter if you're parked or driving 70 mph! that is insane!! how about an "oil low light" my oil life percentage still showed 20% remaining and I was scheduling an oil change the next week. After reading multiple complaints, just like mine, I requested that they check the shifter again. They said that the shifter was fine. I picked up my Jeep from the dealership and drove 30 miles home. I pulled in my driveway and the service shifter light came on again with the prnd lights all lit up. Took it to the dealership again this morning, 06/27/2019 and just got a call that they replaced the shifter bezel and wiring and did an update. There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints exactly like mine. This needs to be corrected now before someone gets in a horrible accident. I drive the interstate every single day. If my engine shuts off going 70 mph, it will not be a good situation.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/29/2018

On December 29th at about 5pm, I was traveling south at 40mph on Plymouth sorrento rd in orange county FL. As I was driving, I heard a ding (1 ding almost as if my seat belt wants buckled, but it was) and at that time, my Jeep shut down in travel. The first thing I noticed was the radio shut off and all the gauges, as I went to correct my steering, to get back in the center of my lane, I realized I had no steering capabilities, the steering wheel was locked. When I realized what had happened, I began to slow and the car came back on. This all took place in about 5 seconds. When I got my head straight and started back home, I noticed that the radio, control panel/gauges and a/c would not function properly. I could not change channel, turn air off, couldn't change volume or nothing. About twenty minutes later I arrived at my house and shut the car down. The radio continued to play. I had to start and shut the Jeep down three time in order for the equipment to shut down. I called napleton Jeep of clermont to come tow the Jeep in and I called chrylser corp to notify them of the major safety hazard this was and problems this could have caused. Searching the same year and model Jeep on the internet, it appears this is a pretty common thing,. I explained it to one of the Chrysler corp managers and he said it didn't matter how many vehicles this happened to, there is no problem. Chrysler had the napleton dealer drive the car for about 90 miles over a week period and never had a problem. At that time I got a call from Chrysler and napleton, stating I can pick my Jeep up, there is nothing wrong. The Jeep had about 2000 miles on it when this happened. We have had the Jeep about 40 days when this happened, and because Chrysler couldn't recreate the issues, they have just washed their hands of the problem.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

The fan belt shredded at 37,000 miles. I believe the pulleys were part of the problem. Driving down the road, the belt shredded. It started overheating quickly.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/27/2017

The vehicle will sometimes illuminate a low oil pressure light, other times I hear dinging, like if a seat belt was not fastened, but seat belts are on. The car will stall while driving, and says "shift to park or neutral. Press brake + select gear". This happens while the vehicle is in motion, and can occur when slowing down to turn, when accelerating, or when braking. I have had it happen in my neighborhood, on surface streets, and while attempting to accelerate to highway speeds.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

Vehicle started making noise 2 weeks after bought it! it makes a whiny grinding noise. I would back out and when I straighten wheel to go forward, there it is! at first, this only happened once or twice a day then it was doing it constantly. It even occasionally whines while driving down highway. My other issue is chirping in motor. At my first scheduled maintenance, I informed dealership of problems with various noises. I was told that chirping "was a pulley and even though it was an annoying issue and no safety issue and since it was Friday afternoon and I lived so far away I could take it to a dealership closer to my home". I took it to another dealership for problems. I was told noises were from excessive road salt. I laughed and told advisor that I know he goes by what his tech tells him but we live in nc and there wss no salt in July. I didn't care what caused it, I just wanted it fixed. All seemed well until the next day when it all started again! back to shop once again. . . . . . After couple of days, dealership called with some news. They decided my Jeep with 9000 miles needs a transmission. Fast forward a week and half, no news. No word from dealership, had to calll to get update and looks like almost another week before I might get her back. Not a happy Jeep owner.

One of the pulleys brackets holding the "serptine " belt broke causing loss of power steering and minor damage to the engine compartment. The estimate damage is undetermined at this time, until it can be check out. The bracket holding the pulley cracked in half. When I talked with the service department at the Jeep dealer, I was told that this was a normal occurence when the vehicle has in excess of 100,000 miles. Because the bracket is made out of aluminum I have 92,000 miles. Anyway I was told that this is not a manufacture defect, therefore the manufacture will not pay for repairs.
