Oil filter housing/cooler leaks and pools oil on top of engine. Part number 68105583af. Oil drains down either side of the engine. It is a plastic part that can easily fail due to dealer over lightning the oil filter when performing an oil change. Leak starts immediately this car has 22,300 miles on it and is a 2017.

The oil filter adapter and oil cooler develops a significant oil leak that causes oil pressure and driving performance to drop precipitously and makes the vehicle impossible to drive. The needed part is significantly backordered. In speaking with dealerships and independent mechanics it is a common repair. At speed on highways, this issue can suddenly without warning cause accidents and put drivers in harms way.
I have an oil leak in my card. I had the car inspected and it was found there was an issue with the oil filter housing. The problem is that many many Jeeps have the exact some problem. I was told there was a back order of over 40k and I would have to want up to 6 months until I had the issue resolve. Jeep has not recalled the part. Jeep cannot tell me when the part will be made available. They have no efforts to help me remedy the situation at all, I. E. , offer a loaner car, take trade in, or even explain how they are going expedite the situation. I've contacted my Jeep certified dealer which only told to contact corporate. I'm filing this compliant because it appears to me Jeep has a major manufacturing issue with their Jeeps and have taken no steps to correct or help their customers in any way.
The oil filter housing is made of plastic, causing it to easily break most likely due to overtightening when getting an oil change, then this causes oil to leak onto the exhaust pipe being a potential fire hazard, since most people go get their oil changed at a business not themselves you wouldn't know until it is too late and nobody will accept fault, Jeep needs to recall and make this housing out of metal to prevent this issue.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal odor of oil detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the oil filter housing was leaking. The contact called fox Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (346 grant avenue rd, auburn, NY 13021, (315) 252-7273) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,281.
Oil filter housing leaks due to plastic material used in creation of part. Major issue since oil spills out onto the roads. Tried to repair but part is back ordered indefinitely because it's a major issue with other models too.
This year Jeep was equipped with a plastic engine oil cooler housing that is easily cracked when the oil is changed. I have had to replace it twice, and it is leaking again. Due to significant oil leaks and loss of oil in the engine, I took it to the Chrysler auto service center they told me the "lifters" in the engine are now 'tapping' probably from loss of oil pressure, and the cost to replace both the engine oil cooler housing, and the lifters will be another $1,900. I'm still trying to understand the thought process behind putting a plastic part on an engine knowing that hot oil travel through it????.
Oil filter housing is leaking oil, could be a fire issue.
Oil filter adapter failed. Slow oil leak and then garage flooring under vehicle was full of oil. Got vehicle to mechanic and had 1 qt left. Mechanic also had a Dodge van getting the same repair, same part, same part #. Seems to be a big problem with keep, Chrysler, Dodge per mechanic and internet. Also when at either a stop or even traveling on roadway, vehicle becomes jerky and have to either put in park and then back to drive or vehicle has to be restarted. Battery can drain from 13. 9 down to 12. 7 when this is happening. This current battery is the 4th battery for this vehicle.
I went to get my oil changed and was told and showed (in pictures taken by the attendant) that my vehicle has several oil leaks. The attendant also told me that it was a possibility that the vehicle could catch on fire because of the oil leaks. I was then asked if I had had any mechanical work done on my vehicle and I replied no since I hadn't had any work done other than maintenance. The manager then told me that I should be very angry and take my vehicle back to the dealership because it seemed like the engine and transmission were not put together properly which is why I have several oil leaks.
All the engine oil leaked out of the car and started to smoke while I was in motion and the engine light came on but was perfectly fine at first. I do not know what had happened but my engine is now messing up and I almost got in a car accident.

I bought my car brand new in 2016. At 33,000 miles the engine failed resulting in the car shaking when accelerating in motion and the engine light came on. I brought it in and was told the spark plugs failed and they were replaced. At 58,000 miles the same thing happened again. I was told it was the spark plugs and these were replaced again. At 74,100 it happened a third time. I brought it to a different dealership. At this time, the car was almost 10,000 out of warranty. The dealership informed me that there was oil leaking out of my engine onto my spark plugs causing the spark plugs to mud up and fail and that I would need a new engine. After some arguing back and forth, fca, USA agreed to supply a new engine if I paid for the labor, which I did.

Oil was leaking, Jeep was taken to kleyn auto, kleyn auto told me the oil assembly had to be replaced, due to excessive oil leaking. A new oil filter housing was installed. The cost of the repair was $631. 01.
This Jeep Cherokees oil is evaporating causing my car to cut off in the middle of the high way. I check my oil every other day. My oil evaporates while driving I have had the car checked for oil leaks 5 times. This vehicle also cuts off and say shifter and I have to pull over turn the vehicle off let sit for 5 minutes then restart. I have also had to get a tune up at 50000 miles due to manufactural defect according to my mechanic an alert showed them what was wrong. I have almost been struck by other vehicles while I am trying to get over lanes to pull on the side of the road. This is a safety issue so much so I will not drive with my grown children and definitly not my grandchildren.
Engine oil cooler leaking. Car has 69000 miles and the plastic engine oil cooler mounted on the engine block is leaking. Seals are bad because of the design of the part. Multiple 2014 Cherokees have this issue. Known issue for local dealer. Significant fluid buildup under the car and monthly need to refill oil with issue.
The oil filter adapter leaks oil, causing it to pool on top of the engine. Fire hazard! this is an ongoing issue for me, and a quick google search reveals many consumers with the same problem. My vehicle only has 50,000 miles.
I took my vehicle into the dealership where I bought it to have a oil leak checked out. Was shown the problem and was quoted a repair price of $850. I later began investigating the problem when the technician stated it was a known issue with the model of my vehicle. Upon further investigation I have discovered that the NHTSA has a service bulletin for the issue; sb-10058301-5939. This is a potential fire risk, why has this not been addressed.
My car developed an oil leak, slow but steady, and after taking it in to be checked we learned that there was a large crack in the oil filter housing assembly. This along with upper and lower gaskets, will need to be completely replaced to the tune of $500-900. This piece is plastic, so is easy to crack if the filter is over tightened. I think this should be recalled and replaced with something sturdier.
2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4 wheel drive. It is under warranty for transmission, etc. Using oil, ( evaporates?) and is a known issue with this make model and year. Called Jeep and was advised to get it into service immediately due to known issues, but they would not allow me to make a complaint. Jeep has been trying to stall out while driving, at stops, hard shifts, brake comes on automatically, completely stopped in the middle of the road while driving, and oil has somehow disappeared from it, but no leaks.
Oil leaks and there is no low oil light it shuts off anywhere. Safety issue it shut off on me in a busy intersection. The last 2 oil changes I've had I've had this issue, they were done at different places. There is no visible leaks.
My car completely runs out of oil between oil changes. What this then does, is cause the limp mode to come on and stall my vehicle. This happened in intersections, and on the highway, before I myself figured out my car had no oil. My engine was misfiring. I had less than a quart. I had engine codes being thrown none had anything to do with oil. No oil light on. Nothing. I deduced myself online that I needed to check my oil level, though I was still one week out from needing an oil change per the vehicle specs (the oil change notification from the vehicle also had not come on yet). Sure enough, dipstick was bone dry. I had it rectified. I had it verified that I have no oil leak. And every time I am almost due for an oil change my vehicle stalls. Any and every where. And then I go get an oil change with more oil. All over message boards, this happens to people. 2017's had a recall for this. 2019's had a recall for this. Why in god's name has 2018 not been recalled over this. It's unacceptable. It's dangerous. I was almost hit head on. This has happened every 3k miles for the past two years. It's unacceptable and unsafe.
Oil leak from cracked oil cooler. Could cause fire. Poor/defective design and bad location near heat. Needed an expensive replacement. Many others needed replacement also. Jeep customer care was no help.
Vehicle out of oil twice before next oil change. It is not leaking out . . . Vehicle must just be using too much oil??.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 40 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle off the road and had it towed to marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge (5133 w irving park rd, chicago, IL 60641, (773) 777-2000). The dealer diagnosed that there was an oil leak and the engine needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000. The VIN was unknown.
Brought vehicle in to the dealership for repairs on several ocassions with complaints of vehicle jumping into gear. Recently had to replace the battery because vehicle wouldn't stay running and could not put into gear. Vehicle is currently at the dealership because it was leaking oil. Have been told that the oil cooler needs to be replaced. Have also been told that the drive shaft is noisy and should be replaced and that the air temperature ambient sensor needs to be replaced. I gave the go ahead to replace the oil cooler and air temperature ambient sensor. Told them to hold off on replacing the drive shaft as the repair alone for the oil cooler and sensor was going to be approximately $1,300. I then received a call back and was told that they changed the oil cooler and upon trying to start the vehicle it didn't want to start. They told me multiple codes were coming up and that my instrument cluster needed to be replaced at an additional cost of over $1,000. Estimate for all repairs to be $2,500 plus. Was also told that the instrument cluster is a special order and once ordered they would have to hold my vehicle for two weeks until it came in and could be installed. It is costing me $35. 00 a day for a rental vehicle through them. I estimate total cost for repairs and rental to be about $3,000. This cost does not include the replacing the drive shaft which they tell me is noisy.
Oil filter housing assembly is leaking. You can see oil leaking out of a port while running. Oil is puddling up and running down the motor. This can cause engine failure or a fire. . This vehicle was purchased certified pre owned; I am not sure if this is stil under warranty. Definitely is a safety hazard also the transmission on occasion shifts really hard when moving from one gear to the next.
Oil does not last during oil changes, I have to add oil. There is not a leak or any issue, it is just burning way too fast. My Jeep was cutting off right after I would start driving (usually right after a turn) and I had no idea why until I noticed oil was extra low. So now I just make sure to keep it full between changes. Definitely feel like this is a nuisance.
I was driving to town and the low oil presser light came on I get off the road then my car died I was not able to restart it. I checked the oil and it was empty? I put 2 quarts of oil in it and them it stated right up. I took it to the car lot the next day and there was only 1 quart of oil in it. At this time I had only drove it 23 miles since I had put the oil in there, they told me there was not any leaks and that they would fill it up and for me to come back in a week. I really hope that I can make it a week with the oil they put in there I have set the millage thing in the car to 0 and I will see how many miles I drive and if it is out of oil when I go back.
The vehicle's low oil light indicator only flashes across the screen and does not remain on. This only takes place when the car is completely out of oil and the car loses power and shuts off while in motion. The vehicle has no leaks but requires oil every 700 miles or so. The engine runs off synthetic oil which should have to be replaced less frequently, but this vehicle needs oil replacement every 2-3 months.
Bought the car with 31000 miles on it, at 40000 oil cooler started leaking like a sieve!!!! dealer says it's not a covered repair! this appears to be a major problem with Jeeps.
After having the oil changed on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee a leak developed. When I took it to the a mechanic the oil filter housing was found to be broken. I spoke with the shop who changed the oil, they state they use a special tool that does not allow the cap to be torqued down to tightly as the oil filter housing breakage is a known issue with Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler products.
Oil filter housing has cracked and leaking oil.
My 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude at 41000 miles had a brake failure. Now at 51000 miles the engine has been stalling while in motion and shifting into neutral. The dealership told me after the 2nd time in for this problem that the vehicle was 3. 5 quarts low on oil and the engine had shut off to "protect itself" . The car has been parked for in my garage for 3 days, after driving it for about 3 miles the check engine light came on, upon checking it is again low on oil. I have had the car serviced as recommended and don't understand this sudden oil use, there are no signs of leakage or smoking, and the warning system is not indicating low oil pressure. It is going back to the dealership Monday morning.
