Jeep Cherokee 4x4 limited (less than 61,000 miles) will have transfer of power between front wheels (4x4 not engaged) and delay of power transfer. From a complete stop, power transferred from left to right front wheel multiple times causing the vehicles to swerve back and forth. Afterwards, a continuous audible grinding and popping sound-most notable when the wheels are turned.

When we started to accelerate the Jeep jerked into gear. We started to hear a clanking noise and sounded like a part was rattling. Since it did not sound good we pulled over and called a tow truck to tow it to the dealership nearest to us. After the inspection, the dealership told us that the ptu on our 2014 Jeep Cherokee was busted and the car is no longer able to be driven. Prior to this event we took the Jeep into another dealership several times telling them that when we accelerate it jerks into gear. They told us that three updates need to be done on the software of the vehicle. We were told that the updates has to do with the communication of the transmission and the parts that are involved when you accelerate the vehicle. After we completed the updates the Jeep drove smooth but then started jerking again shortly after. Now the cost of replacing the ptu is over $2000. We have read multiple forums and feedback from other 2014 Jeep Cherokee customers that have had the same problem. I have come to the conclusion that this is a manufacturer defect and this should be covered by Chrysler.
Engine seems to budge the car along with a popping noise when the gear shifts. Icons appear on my dash, gear blinks on dashboard and gear shifter, stiff steering wheel, hard time starting up and after the car is turned on the engine sometimes cuts off.

I bought the Jeep 8/2017 and took it to the dealership mid 2018 and complained to the dealership that the Jeep accelerates on its own while I'm driving that I have to put my foot in the break to slow the Jeep down. Right after the dealership finished their testing they stated that they didn't notice any acceleration with the Jeep was fine but it was still accelerating while I drive it and right after I left the dealership the engine started knocking making a ticking sound and had been doing it a year after I brought it. I'm scared I will get in an accident because it seems to speed up (accelerates) on its own. This happens on the city streets mostly and more if I'm goin down a small hill with my foot on the break it automatically speeds up and the engine reves up past 3 to 4 rpm with my foot in the break. My electric problem is the radio and backup camera doesn't not alway come on when I turn on the Jeep some times it takes like 5 mins for it to come out or it comes in after I've drive a few blocks. I let the car run and warm up before I pull off.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various speeds, a clunking noise was present coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the three engine mounts were fractured and needed to be replaced. The engine mounts were replaced and the failure was remedied. The contact recently discovered that one of the engine mounts fractured again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (brubaker Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, 300 eastern blvd, montgomery, al) were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 62,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stationed, the vehicle stalled with an abnormal clicking noise. The contact mentioned that the engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the engine was misfiring. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where the contact was informed that he could not repair the vehicle because the failure was a manufacturer issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and recommended the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The failure mileage was 88,000. Dr.

I was pulling away from a stop sign when I received an error message stating "4wd unavailable". I then heard a loud clunking sound and lost power to all the wheels. After pulling over, I shut the vehicle off and restarted it. I placed the car in drive and a clunking sound persisted. When giving the vehicle gas, the engine rev'd but no power went to the wheels. I then shut the vehicle off and had it towed to the local Jeep dealership.
The Jeep stalled in the middle of the intersection! several times and once as I was exiting the freeway ! the service transmission light went on and then I received the Jeep back nine days later and the the engine rattles and the console cracking sounds themotor sound like it's running higher than before it was fix I took it back the service manger told me that it runs fine and I need to relax and enjoy the arts but I don't think it working like it was prior to breaking down ! it had 6949 miles on it and now the shocks seem to hit hard too ! so I not sure what's going on ! Jeep corporate told me to drive it but I don't feel safe ! I asked for a better Jeep! and I was told that things happen ! the service department won't look at it agian ! and the Jeep seems to be pulling to the left ! but the steering wheel looks aligned!.
I have taken my 2016 Jeep Cherokee into the service department multiple time to have them diagnose the hesitation in the transmission, jerking into gear ( from 1st to second gear, but most of the time from 2nd to 3rd gear) and a loud clacking noise that appears to come from the bottom of the car. According to 2 different Jeep/Chrysler dealership service department that I have taken my Cherokee to be diagnose, they can't find what is wrong with the transmission and they did not expirience the jerking on the transmission during driving. They did informed me that the clacking sound coming from the bottom of the car is the catalytic converter when it gets hot makes a clacking noise, but they have no fix for it. The dealers claim they are waiting for the Jeep inc. To come out with a fix. As if that's acceptable to force your customer to drive a noisy, hesitating brand new car. I am dumbfounded with how the dealerships Jeep / Chrysler keep sweeping this issue under the rug hoping it will go away. Time to find a solution.
Problem: driving down i79 clunk sound "d" on shifter starts blinking service transmission message appears service parking brake appears mil check engine light comes on esc indicator light comes on *pulled off to the side of the interstate turned car off, then back on repeated 4 times drove to a safe location called roadside assistance had car towed to dealership this is the second time this car has had a transmission failure on the interstate at 70 mph. I am now scared of this car. This is unacceptable and disappointing for a new $34,000 vehicle with 15,601 miles on it. First time this happened and was serious enough to complain about was Dec. 14, 2014.
Purchased 2015 Cherokee in January, 2015. First recall in Feb 2015. Software update for transmission and rapid response transmittal. Shifting problems started shortly after update. Hesitation from a stop; delayed start and then "takes off"; surging forward without foot on gas; shifts up when coming to a stop with foot on brake; clunking noise started at 7000 miles. Took it in for recalls on airbag and radio security and told dealer about transmission issues. Was originally told they would have Jeep for 2 hours. 7 hours later they called to tell me they did several software updates (ptu, rdm, dtcm, pcm, bcm); when I went to pick it up I asked for details on each update. Frustrated when I was told it would "take some time for the car to learn my driving habits. " I asked, "what happens when I am teaching my kids how to drive (twins that will be driving in a month)?" the service tech told me that "the transmission would be really confused. " I expressed my concern for safety. Told him I never know when it is going to accelerate on its own or hesitate with a 5 second or longer delay. I asked how that could be safe when teaching kids how to drive. He didn't have an answer. Just said, "I understand your concern. " I have only driven it about 20 miles since the updates. Now it shifts quickly through the first 3 gears, still hesitates, and rough shifting. Keeping detailed records now. I've had my Jeep for 7 months (7000 miles) with 3 actual recalls, and 6 software updates that weren't recalls, just performed based on my complaints. The issues with this transmission are a safety hazard, especially when sitting at an intersection waiting to make a left hand turn and never knowing how the Jeep will respond. . . This isn't safe for an experienced driver. How can anyone safely put a new driver into a car that has these types of issues?.

I received a phone call from my wife who was on her way home from work at approximately 1825hrs. She went on to explain to me that her vehicle was "acting" up again with all the same symptoms as last time (first incident has already been submitted under same information). She lost a significant amount of power while traveling on a busy highway where the speed posted is 65mph. When this happened she pulled off to shoulder and took photographs with her iphone to keep for our records and to what her dash was displaying. She stopped while on the shoulder and put the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. After some time she turned the ignition on and put the vehicle in drive when she noticed the vehicle "jerked" and made a loud clunky noise. This is the second incident. The first incident dealership was unable to find any problems under the diagnostics they ran.
Since getting this vehicle in oct. 2014 we have had nothing but problems with it. The car switches gears when it shouldn't and lunges forward. Also when you slow down to stop the car lurches and shakes before coming to a complete stop. Sometimes you can feel the pedal pumping under your foot when you are moving slowly in traffic. Whenever you are going up any type of hill the engine sounds like it is going to explode. We have taken it to the dealership where we purchased it numerous times and continue to just be told that it is a known issue with 2014 Jeep Cherokee's. There is also a clicking noise by the tires whenever your make a turn. We also took it to the dealership for this and they claim they didn't notice anything. It sounds like the wheel is going to fall off! we should not have these problems with a car that has less than 20,000 miles on it! I cannot wait to get rid of this Jeep. I've had older cars in the past and had not nearly the amount of problems as I have had with this Jeep. It doesn't feel safe to drive. Jeep is well aware of this issue yet they continue to do nothing about it.
I went to shift vehicle into drive, vehicle would not shift into any gear. Turned the vehicle on and off three times, on the third attempt I managed to get in to shift into drive. Vehicles transmission service and check engine lights came on stating "service transmission start from park with vehicle at zero speed. " when I had shifted through to drive to move the vehicle the transmission made a clunking sound like it had fallen out of the Jeep. I drove it 3 miles to my house only going 30 mph. When I got home I attempted to put the vehicle into park and the transmission would not move past neutral. I attempted to remove key 4-5 times and because of this the dash lights had stayed on. I disconnected the battery and had the vehicle towed to the dealership the next day.
This exact scenario happened 4 times between 6/5/14-9/16/14. -- I was driving about 40 mph on the way to work. All of a sudden my car made a chime sound (as if a door was opened) and my car started slowing down, as if I took my foot off the gas. My dash had many lights come on (pretty much all of the sensor lights) and it said "service park break" and "service transmission" my check engine light was on as well. I can assure you my park break was not on! I coasted to the side of the road since pressing on the gas was not helping me move forward. My car never actually shut off on it's own, it just lost power, as if it was in neutral. I shut off the engine, let it sit a minute and started it up again. The same lights were on and it said service transmission. I put the car in drive and heard a clunking sound. The "d" in the shifter was also blinking. I shut the car off again and let it sit a little longer. I tried it again and when I put it in drive there was no clunking sound but when I took my foot off the break I started to roll backwards as if I was in neutral. I live in a rural area so all of this was occurring on a 2 lane road with little to no shoulder at 7:15am, so the traffic was at its heaviest. It was very scary because I had no warning and neither did the cars behind me. My car literally just started to slow out of no where. I was almost rear ended twice because of this. I then decided to have it towed to the dealer. The only difference that happened with the other 3 times, is that I waited long enough for the car to engage once I put it in drive. So I was able to drive myself to the dealer those times. I plan on taking this to Jeep/Chrysler as well.
Was driving 65mph and heard a clunking noise. Had taken vehicle to priviate mechanic, and was informed that bolts had either sheared off or were broken off on right side motor mounts. This caused engine to drop onto frame. First time vehicle was diabled. Currently, this was second time. Advised not to drive vehicle.
