The contact's daughter owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that there was a crack in the exhaust pipe and that the exhaust system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

Engine oil cooler dripping oil onto exhaust creating (possible) fire hazard. The local dealer had this part in stock. I know other owners of 2014 Cherokees who have experienced this problem.

Vehicle can stop abruptly due to low oil as this engine improperly blows oil out the exhaust at a very high rate. Our vehicle blows out 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. The dealer has been monitering this problem since October 2019 when I found the oil level was down 2 quarts. The dealer will not correct the problem or elevate the problem to the manufacturer. We are left with a lemon. We purchased this vehicle new from the dealer it had 11 miles at purchase. This vehicle requires a valve repair or a new engine.

At 61,000 miles my Jeep started having a strong fuel smell in the cabin after coming to a stop with the auto-start dis-engaged. Reading online, many people on the forums have similar issues with Cherokees since the early 2000's with no known malfunction to fix. The exhaust smell has caused headaches in the last week.

After a routine oil change, I proceeded to exit a parking lot at 10 mph, pressed gently on gas pedal and heard a very loud pop. Vehicle immediately lost power and was extremely loud. I returned the vehicle to the Jeep dealership that performs my maintenance, and they stated there was a large hole in the exhaust flex pipe. The vehicle is less than 3 years old and less than 60000 miles on it.

I was cleaning my driveway and noticed a huge puddle of oil underneath my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Upon further inspection I noticed a substantial amount of oil puddled up around the oil cooler assembly. Oil is splashing all over my engine compartment including the exhaust. I'm concerned of a fire starting so I'll have to repair it right away. The complain is simply this: the vehicle is barely 4 years old and has a major problem such as this. It could be a very big safety risk and have read up as it seems to be confined to the year 2014 of similar engine size or type such as 3. 2 or 3. 6 l v 6 engines.
Water or fluid leaking from exhaust system. At start up and shut down rear exhaust.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle vibrated violently and exhibited delayed acceleration. The contact heard an extremely loud noise outside of the vehicle. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The dealer detected a leak in the exhaust and stated that the transmission functioned normally. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 600. . Updated 08-20-14 .
Was driving on a 2 lane highway and the Jeep lost power, I pulled over to the shoulder and when I reached a complete stop the Jeep shutoff. I could not get it the restart. After waiting 10 minutes I finally got the Jeep restarted. When it started it released a huge cloud of white smoke from the exhaust pipes. This is the 4th time this has happened.
My engine light on my dash board is on all the time the mechanic stated it is cylinder 3 misfiring & need to go to the dealership. My dealerships states it has not been recalled and must charge me to fix it.

My 2003 Jeep grand Cherokee, with less than 33,000 miles, was repaired for the same problem twice this year, on 9 Feb and 26 Jul 2005. The repairs were done at 2 different Jeep-certified service facilities, and focused on decarbonization cleanings. Based on the invoices and my own research, it's clear this problem has several interrelated factors: multiple cylinder misfires, and exhaust valve obstruction with excessive carbon buildup. Further, it is directly linked to short-trip/city driving. A few weeks after the second repair, I had an independent (non-Jeep) ace-certified mechanic inspection. His findings indicate that the misfires continue; the underlying problem apparently persists. In the big picture, Jeep did acknowledge the problem in TSB-09-003-03, encompassing a span of models, from 1999 to 2004, w/ 4. 0l engines. The TSB prescribes a valve check and possible cleaning, but does not address the root cause of the misfires and carbon build-up. In the smaller picture, I might mention: the Jeep representative a/w the July repair told me this problem was the result of using 'cheap gasoline'. This theory is not supported by anything I've learned in my own reserach. It is just not feasible that gasoline grade could cause such an extent of carbon build-up twice in 6 months, esp with such low mileage. I should probably also add that I don't know the absolute answer to this problem. There is a good deal of reference material online id'ing this as a chronic problem w/ grand Cherokee, yet no clearcut permanent solution. I have supporting documentation on what I state here, and will be happy to follow up in writing if that will help. Lastly- since most of my vehicle use is short-trip city driving, I am worried that I may face long-term inconvenience, expense, and safety risks. My intent is not to cause problems for Jeep- I simply want my vehicle to be functioning and safe for my family.

1997 Jeep Cherokee. Ehaust manifold crack. I have friends who own 98 and 99 Cherokee's with the same problem. Dealer states it is common. Makes for hard starting poor fuel millage and a fire hazard. Very expensive fix. Should be a recall.

I have talked to various Jeep Cherokee owners and researched on the internet. This seems to be a very common problem with the 4. 0 liter Cherokee. I think it is a health related issue due to the fact the co2 gases are leaking out under the engine compartment and could enter into the interior of the vehicle.
