1 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

Engine failure while going around a bend. Steering completely locked up and breaks were none functional. Thank god I was only traveling at approximately 15mhp in town and was able to safely cost out of the way of oncoming traffic. My dashboard said shift to p (park) and then desired gear and the battery light illuminated. I tried to restart in park but Jeep would not start. After about 15 minutes my Jeep started back up and ran normal. My concern is if I was driving 70mph on the highway with my children in the truck (which I have to do everyday as I work out of town) what would have happened??? would I even be writing this right now? there was no warnings, no lights on, no indication my engine would fail while engaged what so ever. This is a huge safety concern!.

2 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

I first experienced what felt like my transmission wasn't shifting properly right away. I noticed it in lower gears. I took it back to the dealership and they said everything was fine. I then started to experience my engine randomly stalling. I would be going slow and I was usually taking a right turn. I went to turn on my car and it said engine failure. I called the dealership and they said to tow it to them. I received a call that the reason my car ahut off was because there wasn't any oil. I have all my records and my oil had been changed at a dealership less than two weeks prior. So they put oil in it and said I was fine. Within a week my car died turning right on rail road tracks in an instersection. We had to have a police officer come and push us off the tracks and wait for us to get towed. The dealership told my there was a harness that needed to be replaced and it would cost $700! they said that he harness was under my hood when I did research it was discovered that it was in my trunk. They said it needed to be replaced due to water damage. In my trunk? I did research and found this harness was a common issue but it didn't have anything to do with the issues I was having. Now it is a year later and we are having the same issue. My service lights will turn on randomly. My engine stalled on the highway going 70 mph. I am at a loss what to do. My two year old has been in the car with me when this happens and I just want to know my car is safe to drive.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 1998 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/20/2008

My 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4. 0 liter 6 cylinder engine experiences sudden oil pressure drops. This happens when the car warms up. I've had the vehicle checked and the oil pressure sender unit replaced as a precaution. My mechanics are unable to find anything wrong with the vehicle. Looking to the internet for help, I've found hundreds of people with the same problem. Loss of oil pressure at high speeds could result in engine failure causing a fire or accident.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/28/2005

My vehicle has been losing coolant for quite some time. It has relatively low mileage to have head problems, but I now have coolant in my oil. I have done some research and found that daimler-Chrysler used 0331 cast heads on this model Cherokee (2000 w/ 4. 0l engine). It turns out that these heads were a poor cast allowing cracks to form near the #3 cylinder area allowing coolant to flow into the oil. This results in a drop in oil pressure and eventually bearing and engine failure. I consider myself somewhat lucky that I discovered this problem before the engine seized up on me, however I am now looking at over $1000 in repairs that should not be necessary for a vehicle with just over 50k miles. I am very disappointed since I believed Jeeps to be reliably built vehicles. I sincerely hope that someone from daimler-Chrysler will read this and rectify the situation before the engine failure leads to an accident or death.
