Fuel Pump Problems of Jeep Cherokee - part 1

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his daughter was making a left turn, the vehicle stalled with the shift to drive warning and low battery lights illuminated. The driver coasted into a parking space where the push to start button was depressed several times to turn the vehicle off and on. The vehicle was restarted and driven to pomoco Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram of newport news (12629 jefferson Ave, newport news, va 23602) where the failure was diagnosed as a defective fuel pump. The fuel pump and canister were replaced. The contact stated that the fuel pump and canister were replaced by the previous owner in 2019. The contact stated that previously when the vehicle was filled with fuel, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that his daughter parked and left the vehicle running to burn fuel to drive the vehicle without issues. The contact stated that the fuel tank needed to be at a half or � tank to prevent the vehicle from stalling. The contact referenced manufacturer TSB: s1814000002 as the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving the vehicle stopped dead. It would not restart. Had it towed to local dealer. The tipm (total integrated power module) and both fuel pumps were out! part was back ordered for a month. I was without my vehicle almost 4 weeks. Drove it two days on a trip and the constant velocity joint went out!.

The contact owns a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle hesitates to start when the contact turns the ignition. There is minimal fuel pressure when the vehicle starts. While driving 65 mph, with a half tank of gas, the vehicle hesitated as if it were out of fuel. The vehicle continued to hesitate while driving between 25 to 65 mph or greater. The mechanic diagnosed the cause of failure as the fuel system, gasoline delivery: fuel pump. The contact has been unable to drive the vehicle for two months. 1998 Jeep Cherokee se has had a fuel pump replaced (5 years ago) before the recall of same and now the engine control module has to be replaced (both times at a cost of $1000+ which is excessive and really maddening.

The contact stated the fuel pump failed twice. The vehicle was smoking and experiencing loss of power. The vehicle was towed to a dealership. The dealership said the pressure reading was low on the fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced. The vehicle started experiencing a loss of power again. The mechanic changed the fuel filter, but it did not fix the problem. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, and the pressure reading on the fuel pump was low again. The vehicle is currently at the mechanics because the part is on back order.

I read about the recall of the fuel sensor failing on your site. I called Chrysler and was told that it was not for my vehicle. I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and I have this same problem. It has been acting up for the last 4 years. I have ran out of gas 3 times on the interstate alone and have had to call a garage to bring me gas. I do not understand that if they know that there is a problem that they do not fix it. Do I have any other recourse?.

The sending unit gave false readings. When the gas gauge showed 1/2 a tank of gas there was either more or less than indicated.

Radiator & various ac parts needed replacement. Steering gave out in 2002. A screw went through an engine part. Recently, a joint connecting the axel to the steering mechanism had to be replaced. Fuel pump failed. Incredibly, it is inside the gas tank. I have since learned that Jeep gas tanks corrode on the inside, thus clogging the fuel pump. This is a very expensive repair because of the labor. There is still the possibility that this new fuel pump may also fail, because the gas tank was not replaced and the problem still exists. I\\\\\\'ve heard numerous similar complaints regarding the fuel system from other Jeep owners. There should have been a recall.

Fuel sending unit will read that the consumer has gas, but the consumer does not, and will run out of gas while driving. Dealer notified. The consumer had ran out of gas during rush hour-going 35mph. The gas gauge still shows 1/2 of tank. (the consumer has to watch the mileage in order to determine when he needs gas, and is concerned of grandson being injured) the manufacturer is aware. Scc.

Consumer states the fuel pump is malfunctioning for the 5th time in 10 months. The vehicle will not start and stalls with no prior warning. Dealers service technician states apparently there is not enough gas circulating to the engine. The dealer was informed. Please provide more information.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. There were no warning indicators. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The fuel pump had previously been replaced. Prior to the failure, the vehicle operated normally. The current mileage is 125,000 and failure mileage was 75,000.

Front brake rotors were replaced once and turned twice less then two years, and problem is reoccurriing. Dealer notified. The engine was hard to start due to fuel pump module failure which was replaced.

Fuel pump failed and was replaced with original part. Failed second time within 3 weeks due to faulty gas tank, as advised by dealer. Chrysler has huge backlog for same problem and had prior recalled for Jeep Cherokee 95 & 96. (mine is a grand Cherokee). Car can stop literally at any speed.

My vehicle ran out of gas in traffic while the gage still showed over 1/8th of a tank of fuel. I almost was run over by traffic when I got out of my car when it stopped with no warning. Nhtsa has a recall on file for this exact problem but the dealer and manufacturer says it does not apply to my vehicle. The nstsa campaign number is 97v194000, manufacturer campaign number is 755. Since they say my vehicle number is outside the range of this recall, they say I must pay for the repairs myself. I believe that this recall does not include all the vehicles affected and should be expanded to include all affected vehicles.

When the brakes were applied, there was a pulsation in the steering wheel, which was caused by warped rotors. The consumer felt that a new design was needed. The front brakes had been repaired twice. . The fuel pump module was replaced.

Consumer was test driving and made a u turn and vehicle shut off with prior warning. Mechanic told him that fuel pressure gauge, and then a light came on. Also, tail lights were out, and computer was reset. Dealership was aware of problem.

Fuel pump failed. Yh.

Fuel pump has been replaced four times. The car dies and will not star. , dealer performed repairs, and the problem still exists. Occurrences on 11-4-98/11-21-98 and 12-23-98. Provide further information.

Vehicle is included under recall 97v194. The dealership has repaired the fuel level sending unit four times under recall and the problem still exists. Consumer has contacted the manufacturer about the problem.

Ran out of fuel in rush hour traffic, but the fuel gauge showed 1/4 tank. The reading had been accurate prior to this incident, and has been inaccurate since. Could have been involved in an accident. Jeep has a recall due to this problem, for this model year, but my VIN is not covered. I propose that the vins covered is not sufficient, other vehicles are having the same dangerous problem.

Recall remedy did not correct the recall 97v194002 concerning fuel sending unit. When vehicle was half full and when making a left turn it would completely shutdown without warning.

Consumer complained about a fuel pump problem. It caused the vehicle to stall at different speeds. Driver had to wait 5 or 6 minutes before vehicle would start up again. The fuel pump was changed 3 times.

The consumer's vehicle is experiencing symptoms of recall 97v194002 (fuel sending unit) but the dealer will no repair the vehicle due to VIN.

Consumer state while turning ignition switch vehicle would not start vehicle was service technician notice fuel pump need to be replace consumer is now on third fuel pump. Please provide further information.
