Standard Jeep Cherokee (had been maintained by us gvt. Until I bought) hesitates or stalls when turning when gas tank below 25-35% . Is hazardous and have nearly been rearended a few times, from 2003 thru 2009. Chrysler says known problem with fuel filter/pump 'sock'--but no assistance in the 500$ plus potential repair costs. This is the biggest safety problem I have ever heard of in a modern car and it's rampant among Cherokee owners.

When vehicle is started you can smell gas fumes, within minutes the check engine light comes on. Vehicle is taken into dealer. Dealer tests it and says it a leak. They can't find it and they reset the light. Within 2 weeks the same thing happen. They replaced the gas cap a few times and changed a gasket above the fuel tank. This made no difference. Just recently the vehicle has been into the dealer twice in a month. The dealer suggested trading in the vehicle and changed the gas cap again. The last time the vehicle was in they suggested a tune up, which is normally done within suggested times anyways, but did it and charged us for it. Again same thing happened. Vehicle was taken to near by service department to be tested. Results (large leak). . The problem has been ongoing , nothing is being done to solve it.

On hot days the front brakes lock up and would not release, causing linings to smoke. When the air conditioner is on, the compressor kicks in at night while driving with the headlights on. When filling the gas tank, the filler pipe makes a slurping sound, causing the gasoline to slush back and forth in the gas tank.
Fuel filler neck broke.
