Failure Date: 07/28/2020

My car is having an issue with starting up its delaying as if its flooded. It does it with the automatic start up and the key start up. It is parked in my driveway or in parking lots at a store or work. The radiator fluid is always showing low there is no cracks or leaks something is definitely wrong. I check every time I drive it then park.

3 Radiator problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

Purchased the car used with 115k miles. The first sign of an issue was the sound of water rushing to the heater core (air). Car started overheating a few weeks later as the outdoors temperature started to climb in late spring. I started to see white smoke coming from the tail pipe and was having to add coolant every other day. The issue started to get worse so I took it to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a head gasket failure. The issue happens more frequently on hills, during hot weather and while stopped at lights or in traffic. I tried to use a head gasket sealant which worked for about a month and then the car began to overheat again. I checked out several forums and find that this is a known issue in this vehicle due to a poor chose of head gasket with some antifreeze/coolant types. Head gasket replacement is very expensive and should be covered by a recall. The radiator hoses are over pressurizing and will cause ruptures which will end up burning someone severely.

4 Radiator problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Started having service shifter codes at approximately 30k. Would be repaired & after about 8 wks it would throw the same code. Repeated the same cycle 2 adtl times. Took a total of 4 times till the entire shifter, module & wiring were replaced. At 40k miles my Jeep died on me going down a hill. Had to coast down hill & find a halfway safe area off the highway. I had no ability to start the vehicle. The electronics would come on when I turned the key but it would not turn over. All the lights on the shifter would be solid & the service shifter alert came on. Immediately called the dealership. The service adviser walked me thru how to reset the car. Wait for 5 minutes. Turn the key on & let it cycle. Turn the key off. Repeat the process 3 x's till it starts. Took it into the dealership & was told the thermostat module & the radiator. Neither of which would be covered under warranty. Same time I also had an oil change done. 2 1/2 mths later same issue. Die going down a hill. Again took it to the dealership. Told that it was a sensor & wasn't covered under warranty. Had an oil change done this time. I have not replaced any parts on it yet. The thermostat module & the radiator are still the same as the first time I took them in. 8 weeks later same issue. I took it to my local auto repair in town since the dealership could not get me in for 2 weeks & the Jeep was leaving me coasting for a safe space to pull over in traffic. Within 2 minutes they discovered Jeep was 2 quarts low on oil. The engine was losing oil pressure & was shutting off the engine to keep it from damaging the motor. Since then I've tried to schedule service with two different dealerships only to be told that using 2-3 quarts extra of oil in between oil changes is normal & they can not do anything.

5 Radiator problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

2015 Jeep Cherokee radiator leak, needs replacement, vehicle meticulously maintained, serviced by local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer. Three year old vehicle with 70,000 should not need a radiator replacement. Wondering if this is a common issue that should be covered under a recall.

6 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

Takata recall I own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee inline 6 and since I got it it has had a lot of problems with the head and blowing the gaskets I called the dealership to see if there was any recalls and there wasn't any. The lady that was working asked me what was going on and I told her and she said that my year Jeep should've had a recall for it because a lot of people have had the same problem. This is really the only problem I have with my Jeep and everyone I talk to that has a Jeep like mine and the same year have the same problem. This will be the second head gaskets in 4 years I will be putting on new head gaskets. I can't afford a new head for it and I've been told that the heads were bad on my year of Jeep. It also came with dexron antifreeze that after a while gooks up in the radiator and looks like mud.

7 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

Driving on the highway at 60mph and Jeep starts to overheat. Had mechanic check it out couldn't find a problem. Replaced radiator, thermostat, coolant system flush, and new antifreeze replaced. That seemed to fix the problem but then I would have to keep refilling antifreeze but it was not leaking any this went on for about a year then I noticed brown gunk in the overflow container and had a mechanic check it out and he said that was due to the antifreeze mixing with oil most likely caused by a cracked cylinder head. After some research I found it was extremely common that the 2000 Jeep Cherokees would crack their cylinder heads between the 3 and 4 heads. Very annoying to diagnose and fix.

8 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Bought vehicle new and performed regular maintenance. Had to replace brake rotors at 62,000. At 78,000 miles engine overheated; verified fan, radiator, and water pump in working order and replaced thermostat and temperature sensor. Engine continued to overheat with unexplained coolant loss. No leakage and clean oil. Replaced head gasket anyway and noticed no cracks in head. Still runs hot and loses coolant somehow. At 80,000 miles engine developed miss after replacing coil and checking fuel and firing systems removed head again and pulled lifters. Bottom of one lifter was ground off resulting in some wear of cam lobe. Replaced lifters and valve springs. Fixed engine miss. At 82,000 miles oil gauge showed 80 pounds of oil pressure until engine totally warm then dropped to 40 lbs. Also showed 40 lbs when keyed moved to on position with engine not running. Replaced oil pressure sending unit. Now engine runs 40-45 lbs when cold and drops to 10 lbs when running after totally warm. When stopping at lights after driving with warm engine, oil pressure drops to 0 and check gauges light comes on. Purchased a high volume oil pump and will see if this corrects that problem. This is totally unacceptable for a vehicle with 83,000 miles that was purchased new and well maintained. Furthermore when checking with other owners these problems and more seem to be common for this year/model.

9 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/19/2007

I have had engine overheating problems on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee, door actuators going bad, and also oil pressure gauge going to zero, and also loosing anti freeze. I have replaced the head once for the coolant loss and didn't do any good, I've had the thermostat switched for overheating and also the radiator fan , no help.

12 Radiator problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/25/2004

After driving my vehicle for approx 20 minutes I notice smoke coming from the front of the hood. I opened the hood and found that the hose leading from the engine was very. My temperature gauges all registered normal so I added some engine coolant and did not drive the vehicle until the next am. After a 3 mile drive to work same situation again. I took the car to my mechanic and was told the radiator had rotted and need to be replaced. Odd since there was no indication prior to the smoke.

14 Radiator problem of the 1997 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

Radiator & various ac parts needed replacement. Steering gave out in 2002. A screw went through an engine part. Recently, a joint connecting the axel to the steering mechanism had to be replaced. Fuel pump failed. Incredibly, it is inside the gas tank. I have since learned that Jeep gas tanks corrode on the inside, thus clogging the fuel pump. This is a very expensive repair because of the labor. There is still the possibility that this new fuel pump may also fail, because the gas tank was not replaced and the problem still exists. I\\\\\\'ve heard numerous similar complaints regarding the fuel system from other Jeep owners. There should have been a recall.

15 Radiator problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/21/2001

Don't buy a Jeep! piece of junk. Since I have owned mine the following has broke radiator, seat track, power window motor, brakes, blowout, transmission, headlight covers dulled, multiple rear light outages, inside lights out.

16 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/03/2001

'check gauges' light comes on multiple times, temperature gauge to redline for a few minutes, then back to normal. Brought in to be checked/fixed 5 times, 'no leak', 'no problem detected', 'radiator hose loose', 'added coolant' until this last time: 'cracked head'; also oil gauge recently shows no pressure with great frequency, as with temperature gauge. I had been adding coolant every few weeks. I believe this problem could seize the engine while vehicle is in motion.

17 Radiator problem of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/03/2001

Car has been well-maintained throughout ownership/no abuse of any sort on our part hastened the extensive repairs/overall repair bill was $1500. Head gasket and assoc. Problems caused the water pump to seize up, the serpentine belt to slip off/the metal parts to be chewed up which went into the radiator causing the water lines and the radiator to be flushed as well. We are concerned about the extensiveness of this problem and the repair cost. We have contacted Chrysler, but they said they will not proceed with a recall until NHTSA reports this problem to them. That file # is 8646708. We previously owned the same make and model(1988 Jeep). We sold it at 200,000 miles--never having extensive repair problems such as this.

18 Radiator problem of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/08/2001

While driving consumer heard fan hitting housing of the radiator. Also, vehicle would not go in 5 th gear or reverse. Motor had dropped about 3 inches. Motor mount bolts had broken.

19 Radiator problem of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/20/1999

The water pump went out on way out of town. White smoke poured out from behind the Jeep. We immediately pulled over and used our phone to call for help. We were told from a mechanic that it sounded as if the water pump went out. We waited for the Jeep to cool off, then added water to the radiator. We were able to drive at 35 mph until we found a service station to pull over at. At that time the technician told us that it was indeed the water pump and there was no more that could be done that day (Saturday-5:00p. M. ). We got our vehicle towed back home to lafayette, la. The next morning and at that time the towing/service technician also said it looked as if the engine head gasket was blown. Is that common for this vehicle with this milage? also, the brakes went out and we had them fixed a month ago at lafayette motors inc. Could they have known about the water pump or is that impossible? also, was there supposed to be any warning as a check engine light? we got no warning, but the smoke pouring out. ( dot number: ).

20 Radiator problem of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/08/1998

On the first occasion the motor mount bolts broke and the side of the engine collapsed downward. Due to the collapse the fan moved down and it hit the fan cover. When the motor mount collapsed it chipped away at the surface of the engine block. The second time the motor mount bolts came out completely and the engine fell to the side again this time wedging fan into the radiator. The first time the dealership repaired the motor mounts, but obviously did not do a good enough job, in order the keep the motor mount secure.
