Coolant temperature shoots up (hot) for 5 -30 seconds then engine stalls. Can't restart or stalls in the middle of driving. Has happened stationery, in motion, turning, freeway and city streets. Also can has happened all 4 seasons: fall,, spring, summer and winter. Has been happening for 2 years and no dealership can find out what's wrong.

Engine stalled while driving at fast speed.

On three different occasions, while driving on a major road, the vehicle engine just stopped. At the instant the engine stopped, engine caution lights illuminated saying the coolant had overheated and allow the engine to cool. Placing the transmission in neutral, the engine was restarted and the journey continued. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep repair facility where they test drove it and could not duplicate the problem, there were no fault codes in the computer, and basically nothing they could do to troubleshoot the problem. This is most definitely a matter of life safety. The engine stalling at the wrong time could cause a terrible accident.

My vehicle is stalling and the oil on the vehicle is been consume rapidly I took my car and told the dealer that this is not normal they asked me to please take it every time the engile oil light will come on which it's very often. Engine oil monitors fail to engage prior to engine stalling- I was getting on the highway when my car started stalling luckly no one was behind me and I reached out to the dealer at Chrysler in elgin IL - they had me drop my vehicle and offer me a rental. Claiming that they will contact Chrysler - Jeep to get my engine replace or fixed the issue since they mention. I was told that there a numerous customer with the same issue vehicle at risk of sudden engine stalling without warning,� the Jeep Compass class action lawsuit alleges. But today I was notify to return the rental back and that I must drive my car and take it to the dealer once I reach 1,000 miles I talk to rachel the assistant manager to provide me with the ref# number and proof that she contacted Jeep and she decline stating she didnt get one. -- I on the other hand went online and file a complain with Jeep corporate office online and received a ref # right away. . ( which is why I don't believe the assistant manager at elgin Chrysler. . She doesn't have paperwork of it or anything) I'm still waiting for a resolution or hear from Jeep corporate office this is my reference # 77965874.

Vehicle stalls out and leaves motorists stranded. Engine stalls and has the potential to resume normal power but has a serious lag between power given and power accepted by engine (2-5 secs). Possibility for collision is great and possibility for being left stranded is great. Battery and normal maintenance has been performed.

The engine stalled without warning five times while driving between 8-24-20 and 8-30-20. The rpm's went to 0 and no power steering or power brakes. I spoke to tyler at la porte Chrysler in la porte, in and set a service appointment. A s89 recall had been issued, but an incomplete recall had been performed. Only two of three wiring harnesses had been replaced. They still have my vehicle. I do not feel safe driving it not knowing when or where it may stall. It stalled under a variety of circumstances, busy thoroughfare or at the atm.

The engine stalls while driving. I've read this issue is present in other Dodge and Jeep Compass models of this year, however, the recall that exists for those vehicles doesn't appear to exist for my vehicle. This is incredibly unsafe as the engine immediately stalls as I'm driving the vehicle down the road and I'm afraid of crashing.

My car engine stalls all of a sudden while the car is in motion. I noticed this issue 2 times in last summer (2019) when driving on the local/town roads. After that this did not happen until 2 days ago (1/29/2020) while I was returning home. And it happened again yesterday (1/30/2020) while I had left my school campus. I have been getting my car serviced at the recommended service intervals. When the car stops right in the middle of the road, the display asks me to shift into p and restart the car. This is an extreme hazard to the driver/passengers. I checked online and there are other people who too have had similar issues. Engine stalls while at highway speed. Have to hurry and pull over before stearing locks up. It's been happening since I got the vehicle. Had it in 3 to 4 times and the dealer says there is nothing wrong. It happened again twice this week. I'm lucky I've been able to pull over with out causing a wreak.

When riding city streets or highway engine sometimes jerk and stalls. No warning and no lights. This has happen over 10 times in the last five months. Crankshaft sensor was replaced August 2018 due to engine stalling and wouldn't crank.

My throttle body sensor is coming on and causing my engine to buck and stall while driving (happens at anytime). I understand there is a recall on some 2016 models but should be across the board for 2016. I am literally paying out of pocket for a known issue for that year.

2009 Jeep Compass manual transmission engine stalling intermittently at highway speed and also at idling. Has happened several times, but usually starts back up after a short period of time. Also, vehicle will intermittently not start, all lights on dash light up, battery is good, nothing wrong with starter. Sometimes it will start within minutes, other times it starts after a day or two. . . Random. Break pedal usually very stiff. Have has it towed to the dealership to only have it start and they could not diagnose the issue.

The engine stalled and cut off while I was slowing down while driving on the freeway. The car went completely dead, I could not turn on warning lights and cars were running fast behind me. After 2 minutes of turning the ignition to try to start the car, the dash lights went back on and the engine started again. The car also cut off when I was slowing down in traffic behind other cars.

Faulty or defective camshaft/crankshaft sensors shutting down or stalling the vehicle while in operation and motion, without warning. Driving, up to 70mph, in heavy traffic on a busy highway, vehicle engine stalls and results in loss of power steering, power brakes and forward momentum. When this happens, the driver is thrust into a very dangerous (and possibly deadly) position of trying to manually (w/o power) steer and/or brake the vehicle at high rates of speed in fast and dense traffic.

As I was driving on an 8 lane expressway my vehicle experienced an engine stall while driving. I immeditaely tunred on my hazard lights to alert other drivers and crossed 7 lanes to come to a complete stop as I could no longer accelerate. I turned off my vehicle, turned to the on position to allow all dahsboard lights to turn off and then off. I turned my vehicle back on and continued to drive to my desitnation but this time when it happened I just was going up a hill, cars in front and behind me I was right in the middle of the intersection with another engine stall while driving. I need to be added to the manufactures list of the know defect of their voluntary recall they initatiated. My car is not safe to drive and becuase this is intermittent I can not recreate this issue at the dealership. I am not on the list of a recall even though I am having engine stalls while driving.

They have had star cases opened with Chrysler technicians. It's been a guessing game. They have returned the car to me several times saying it was fixed. Only to have it stall out on me. As I am driving the car stalls. This happens a lot when I slow down then press the gas again, also when I turn. This happens everyday on the highway and side streets, this has lead to almost getting into multiple car accidents. Be advised you are only allowed to report one date of occurrence, this is a daily issue. There is a recall for the 2016 Compass that describes the issue my car is having to the t. It does not include my VIN number, but I think this should be re-evaluated as this is a very dangerous issue. Be advised the recall s89 states, �the crankshaft or camshaft sensor may only work intermittently, causing the engine to stall. � please see the attached for proof of recall details.

Consumer bought car in August 2018 (memorial weekend). Upon obtaining the car, consumer noticed that car appeared to attempt to stall when break; however, the engine would kick back in and not stall. Last week (end of November 2018) consumer was driving the car and stopped at an individuals home to pick them up when the car completely shut off with the stop/start system warning light came on. Consumer turned off vehicle and restarted the car; light went off and car ran as normal. Consumer was driving the car today 12/5/2018 when stopped at a red light the car stalled and restarted, putting it into a "power saving mode" where the radio did not work and parking break light came on along with transmission light, and start/ stop light. Upon getting the car to the destination (half a mile) the engine light illuminated. Consumer turned off car and attempted to turn it back on. Car instruments turned on; however, would was observed clicking and would not turn over. The transmission light is still on and the start/stop is illuminated. I have read many of the "complaints" for this vehicle and they are consistent with the same things I have been experiencing.

Engine stalls after refilling gas to "full" tank. It happens after tank refill only. It happens within a quarter mile of the gas station. Today it happened while I was in traffic. I searched this issue online and there multiple reports of the same issue for Compasses and patriots. I don't think there is a dependency on speed. It is more likely the time after refilling and starting engine.

Owns a 2016 Jeep Compass. As of 10/07, the engine stalled while attempting to start after being driven for approx 30 min. The check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was able to be driven and was checked upon parking. The following morning (10/08) vehicle stalled upon attempting to start after being driven for approx 10-15 min. The check engine indicator was still illuminated. Was able to drive car to work and checked several times to see if car would stall upon starting. No issues and check engine indicator disappeared. Contacted recall/Chrysler dept, referred to nearest dealership in which I was advised that my VIN was not associated with the current recall & not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage is only approximately 45,800. I am afraid of the vehicle stalling while driving and/or causing a crash with child in the car.

The engine keeps stalling. Its similar to the same description for the recall that just so happen my car isn't linked to dealing with the crankshaft or camshaft.

While driving my Jeep all of a sudden the engine stalled. No warning. No other issues. I tried to restart and my engine light came on and the electronic throttle control {etc} light came on. The engine would not turn over, but kept trying to start until I turned keys to off. I waited 10 minutes and tried it again. It started, however the engine light stayed on. I was able to drive home without another incident.

Takata recall. When accelerating in the car the engine randomly stalls and the car jerks. It happens on the highways and side streets. The 2016 Jeep Compass says it has a recall for an issue with the crankshaft but my specific one has this issue and there are no recalls associated with my VIN.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number: unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. Aw.

Stalls after fill up. We do not top off or overfill the tank. Everytime we fill the tank up to the automatic shut off, the engine stalls within about 30 seconds. Generally, the engine will stall if idling at a stop light after fillup. The engine does not stall if the vehicle is running above 25-30 miles per hour. The engine starts right back up without problem, but will continue to stall. After vehicle has been driven a few miles, the stalling issue disappears entirely.

My 77 year old mother was driving vehicle on highway 159 in maryville, IL when the engine stalled. She was able to pull off roadway. Engine light appeared. Turned vehicle off and then restarted. Went to dealership where they used some type of hand held tester. It showed code po335 which is crankshaft position sensor. This happen two days later when turning into parking lot. Same as above. This is a very dangerous thing to happen especially driving 45 mph.

Engine stall after fueling. After filling tank the engine will stall when in motion on highway was told by dealer there was a design flaw in the evap system purge control valve that allows fuel to enter the charcoal canister if you fill the tank when fueling. When this happens the Jeep will stall when in motion on the highway or city traffic and the steering is non responsive major safety issue Jeep is aware of the problem and has a service bulletin out on it but offers no fix other than do not fill up your tank. This almost resulted in a major accident on interstate 95 on 11/14/2015 this need to be a recall it is not a isolated problem read any google search on line and there are thousand of owners with the same issue trying to find out what I wrong and a fix.
