About years ago I was driving my 2018 Jeep Compass, when all of a suden the lights on the dashboard went crazy blinking on and off and the radio too, then the engine turned off and the steering wheel was to hard, I took the car to the dealership to get it checked up. After a few days the dealership said there is nothing wrong with the car. But days later the car did the same thing again. Took the car back to the dealership and they kept the car for a over two weeks they said car was fix two months after that car did it again went back to the dealership and they kept the car for more than six months, they could not find the problem they change some wiring, batteries and the radio and they said its fix but no. The car keep doing the same thing, over and over no I dont feel safe driving this car specially in the highway because when it shuts off the steering wheel is very hard to maneuver and is not safe at all.

Car engine shut off at highway speed car lost all power no acceleration / braking / steering this was the first time it happened. No no. As it was happening.

My car flashed a warning to "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and car shut off automatically while I was driving on a city street! there is a powertrain control module recall for this make and model but mine wasn't included, I guess. A car going down the street and suddenly coming to a complete, uninitiated stop is extremely scary and dangerous. I would think if this is happening, then the pcm should be replaced, but the dealership isn't on board with this. They say there is nothing they can do since they can't re-create the error. My simple google search has shown this to be a very common problem with the 2018 Jeep Compass.

I was driving down the road on route 73 in cinnaminson NJ at 930 pm with my 15 year old daughter. All of a sudden, without warning - the engine shut off and my car had zero power. The power steering was locked up and we almost got rear ended by a huge truck. It was terrifying. I called road side assistance and had to wait in a dark car with no heat. This is horrible.

On 3 separate occasions now the car randomly shuts off while driving. This is a huge safety concern as once it was on the highway- the car shuts down and starts to decelerate- you loose power steering and power brakes and the car is hard to control- the last incident almost caused an accident- has been to the dealer 3 times and they are basically just throwing darts at trying to fix it. The first fix was just a computer update, the second fix was a thermostat and housing the third fix was an auxiliary battery?.

The engine shuts off while driving. This happened on more than one instance and each time it happened while driving on a city street. The information in this report is for the most recent incident, but this was not the first time this occurred.

2nd time this happened within a month. Dealer changed batteries 1st time. Computer system runs through a number of messages stating various settings are not working. Example: engine light, air bag, oil, with every warning light there is. Vehicle just shut down on a busy road. Very dangerous. 15 min later it started back up like there wasnt a problem. There is excess oil use also. Changed oil, a month later, its a 1/4 low. No drips either. This should not be happening for a vehicle that is only 3 years old.

I purchased my car on July 22nd 2020. The very first day while I was driving home I noticed that the car shut off while I was stopping. I thought perhaps that it was the auto off that triggered a little too early. Since then it happened twice and most recently while I was driving and making a turn the car just shut off. The only way to get the car going west for me too put the car in neutral and start the car again. Also, a google search of the tiger shark engine issues points out that there are many concerns and complaints affecting so many vehicles. There's also a class action lawsuit about this. .

My 2019 Jeep Compass started having issues in September 2020. It shut off at a red light on highway 76 in oceanside, CA with my family in the car. Shortly after, it started becoming sluggish when pulling out of the driveway and backing into the street. Shifting between park and drive it stalls, the lights on the gear shift have since gone out. I have refused to drive or register my vehicle since oct. 2020 because I am terrified to drive it with my child in the car. I make my monthly payments on time and have been told to report my issues here. My 2019 Jeep Compass is a paperweight at this time.

The vehicle wont start occasionally. You can press the ignition, and it says its on, but the engine doesnt turn over. I have noticed it happens more often if you 3ngage the parking brake while your foot is on the brake peddle. To "correct" you have to take your foot off the brake, press the ignition button again until it shuts off, and then reapply your foot on the brake depressing it as far as you can press it and then press the ignition button again. There is a moment of hesitation and then it starts up. Additionally the car has shut off on me at an intersection with the auto start feature on, and wouldnt restart when I took my foot off the brake like it was supposed to. I had to follow the same procedure describe above to "correct" the problem. Because of this, I no longer run the car with the auto start feature because its unreliable. Its always been a bit of a rough start whenever I have left it on, causing me to wonder if its actually going to start.

Vehicle has shut off while driving on two occasions. Both times I had slowed to a stop and when I hit the gas to reaccelerate at a green light the car shut off. The infotainment screens remained on and the lights on the shift knob started to blink. I had to put the car into park, turn it off and restart it all while sitting at an intersection. It was not a quick process. The car has an idle feature to save on gas however this was not the feature in action the car was off completely.

Twice now, the vehicle has completely shut off while driving. The first time happened at a red light. This vehicle has automatic engine shut off when you press on the brake, but when you release the brake, the engine is supposed to come back on. When I was at the red light, the entire vehicle shut off and I needed to put the car in park and restart the vehicle. This happened again while I was making a u turn a few weeks later. As I was turning the car, the entire vehicle shut off and I luckily rolled to the edge of the road to put the car in park and turn the vehicle back on.

While driving at highway speeds, suddenly unable to apply gas or control steering and vehicle slowed as if gas pedal was not depressed at all. A second time, after coming to a stop sign the engine shut down. The radio and other electronics remained on but vehicle would not restart. Had vehicle towed to independent service shop and unable to duplicate problem or locate any error code.

Engine shuts off while driving. Seems to happen just after using brakes for red light or stop sign. When I accelerate after stopping the engine shuts off shortly after. Extremely dangerous as it can happen right in the middle of an intersection after stopping for a red light!!!! just started doing this yesterday, and it happened twice. Both times on a side street after stopping for a stop sign. I am taking my Compass in this morning to the dealership, as I am terrified to drive my Jeep :(.

A couple of days during a week's time the engine will shut down while taking my daughter to school in the morning as I was turning onto the main road out of my neighborhood. The engine shut off, the steering became difficult, and the parking brake engaged. A couple days after the second time the oil pressure light came on for a second. I check the oil and it was 3 quarts low. No other warning lights came on. After looking for information on the web I learned the engine was low or out of oil and shutting down is a safety feature as is engaging the emergency brake in traffic. I wasn't due for an oil change for quite some time based on Jeep's recommended schedule, but I was forced to do one so they could verify the issue. I am concerned for my safety, my family's, as well as other drivers as I do not know when the car will shut if I don't act like I have my first car from the 1960's and had to check the oil weekly.

On November 14, 2019, my wife drove our 2018 Jeep Compass on a local street, within minutes, the car began slowing down in the middle of the road, came to a complete stop, and then shut off. Before the car shut off, the emergency brake light came on. On the first attempt, the car did not turn back on. On the second attempt, the car turned back on.

Vehicle shuts down while operating. Took it to the dealer and the dealer said it uses a quart of oil every 500 miles thereby by causing engine to shut down during operation. Dealer stated Chrysler is aware of problem and no solutions have been provided yet. Dealer also stated to get an oil change every 3000 miles. This vehicle has 33,720 miles and was purchased Jun 2017.

Same issue 2x now and feel my life and others are jeopardized. While driving on a highway coming to a red light slowing down for the light to then turn green while pushing the gas the car stalled, shut down and emergency brake turned on, nothing would work. I could not disengage the emergency brake to even move the car off the lane of the highway and was nearly in a car accident. The first incident the vehicle was taken in for service and was told I needed an oil change. I said so while I'm driving, getting on a highway 1. 5 minutes after leaving my home my car will just shut down? the answer was yes! unacceptable!! how about the car not turning on due to low oil or things of such instead of the car turning on and allowing you to drive enough to get up to 50 mph then just shutting down. Again today and car is being towed to dealer. I have uconnect and receive emails of my car diagnostics. Only 3 days ago it sent a "suggested" oil change. Understand that uconnect has an "immediate action needed" alert. If the car shuts down I would assume this should be an immediate action not a suggestion. There is no oil indicator on my dashboard. This is a huge safety issue and concern and must be immediately. I will be reaching out to any and all news stations that will hear my story and read the hundreds reported if legitimate action is not taken specific to this life saftey issue! I was in a car accident in 2017 and an airbag blew my left eye apart and has left me blinded in one eye. I purchased this vehicle to make me feel safe due to the blind spot alert function. I now have to be concerned that I may jeopardized the safety of myself and others over an oil change?! I hope this reaches the right source and I hope they read the hundreds of other reports that are exactly the same or Jeep will be on the news and all those that turned a cheek.

It has shut down on me 4 times while driving. The emergency brake comes on by itself. The low oil pressure light came on the one time it shut down on me mid turn. Which is not possible for low oil pressure. It usually shuts down while going 25 to 35 mph on a city street but has shut down on me while merging onto the expressway.

Engine shuts off while driving and the emergency brake comes on. Very dangerous, was almost in an accident. Bedders brothers has told me it's due to low oil pressure and is common with these vehicles. I do not want my wife or anyone else driving it. What will it take for a resolution or recall?.

My car's light to have it's oil changed turned on, then immediately after my engine shut off while I was making a sharp left turn. Happened 2 more times before I could get to the shop. Was told I was completely out of oil so they refilled the tank and told me this was my fault- within 1000 miles my low oil pressure light quickly turned on and off and my engine turned off again while I was turning. Took car to shop and they said I was again out of oil - I insisted they look deeper since I found numerous online forums with people experiencing the same dangerous issue. The dealership discovered my engine was overly consuming the oil and an entire engine replacement was necessary.

Major issue! this is apparently known by Jeep as they have issued a recall. Yet it is happening to additional models outside the scope of the issued recall. 2019 Jeep Compass 2. 4l. The engine shut off without any warning while driving at approximately 25 mph. The vehicle is brand new with only 200 miles. I purchased the vehicle only 10 days ago. I took the vehicle back and returned it, which was quite the headache to get the dealer to do. I basically traded it in for a Jeep grand cherokee so to avoid the 2. 4l engine. I am out quite a bit of money in paying taxes, fees, registration, tile,etc twice due to this issue. In doing some research, this seems to be a fairly common problem in both the Jeep Compass and the Jeep cherokee in regards to the 2. 4l 4 cylinder engine. Jeep has issued a recall on the cherokee. They need to do the same on the Compass. Stay away from the 2. 4l 4 cylinder engine at all costs.

Vehicle tried to shut off - sent vehicle to garage and they reset some codes. Second time - vehicle shut off in the middle of an eight lane highway going 55 mph - no accident. Had to have vehicle towed to dealership. Replaced module in engine. Third time - vehicle shut off again on a two lane highway - no accident. According to garage the vehicle was low on oil but no oil light came on. Read quite a few of these Jeep vehicles are having this problem.

First my radio cuts out at random times. Second, I've been noticing my oil light coming on many times. I constantly feel like I'm putting oil in this car. 3 rd, I was pulling out of a strip mall when my car just shut off. Thankfully I wasn't in traffic yet. Many times when I start my car and start moving my car stalls. This has happened too many time that I don't feel safe. Every 600-1000 miles I have to check the oil. It is always low and I believe this is the cause of the stall problem. I bought this car in October 2018 brand new and have had trouble ever since I hit 3000 miles. Very disappointing!!!!.

When I have to brake and come to a stop the car rumbles, then when completly stopped the car shuts off, then when I take my foot off the brake peddle the starter kicks in and starts the car in gear with a rumble and then I can go? it does'nt matter if on the high way or at a stop sign it rumbles, shuts off and restarts in gear. The car is (2) days old with 35 miles.

Why has this not been recalled. Had my Jeep at the dealer yesterday, for another oil change, about 2000 miles before I was due. The last oil change was around 9500 miles. They said, there was no oil in my car when he checked. It has just under 13,000 miles on it and for the second time in 5 days, the engine just shut off while driving. So I have now almost gotten rear-ended twice. I have to drift to the side, put the car in park, shut it off entirely, then restart, yesterday it took 3 tries to get it to restart. I was told, I need to drive another 2000 miles and come back so they can check my dip stick, which they marked yesterday. Ironically while I was checking out, there was a woman there, picking up her Compass from them after a week, because they were replacing her engine. Earlier this month I was talking to a family friend. Her Compass had just come back from the same dealer, after having the engine replaced for the same thing. So why, am I still having to drive a car, when this is a known issue? from reading other complaints, sounds like some have not had as easy of a pull off as have and are stuck in harms way when it happens to them. Is it going to take someone dying for this issue to become a recall??.

I stopped at the stop light and the engine shut off with the normal function of auto start/stop but when I took foot of the brake the car stalled out in the middle of the road. After which there was loss of power steering and the parking brake would stay engaged. The loss of power steering made it really difficult to steer the vehicle off the road to safety.

When filling the gas tank all the way up. The car locked up steering was uncontralloble brakes were locking on and off like jumping and almost hit an oncoming car. Car shutoff and went turn back on until 5 minutes in was in full motion going 55mph on a city street. Scariest time I've ever been driving. Now that I have researched there is numerous complaints of the same instance happening to others. Having to do with when the fuel tank is all the way full. Literally could have died. Someone will get badly injured or death if this is not corrected.

After starting car and driving emergency break engages and car shuts off while in motion. Upon turning off, "low oil pressure" warning comes up for less than 3 seconds and then disappears. . And engine stays off. Takes about 5-7 minutes for car to turn back on. This has occurred multiple times while driving on interstate highway and busy intersection. Super dangerous and not safe. . . Have called Jeep to open a case and taking in for servicing. This is not ok. Truck is less than 6 months, not even 3,000 miles.

While driving, cars engine shut off. I would try to start it, sometimes it would start back up again I would drive it and then the engine would shut off and slowly stop moving. Car was diagnosed with the engine code p0335 and p0339 crankshaft position sensor malfunction/intermittent. Within the same week of having it replaced, now I'm having issues filling the tank with gas. Gas pump stops filling every 0. 2 gallons and clicks. Tried moving the gas pump in different positions but still won't fill. Gas ends up bubbling and overflows even though the tank is only at a quarter tank. Looks like this is very common with Jeep Compasses. It's either the fuel tank transfer tube or need to get the whole gas tank replaced.

While driving on both city streets and highway the engine shuts off without any warning. This causes a loss of power steering and abs braking making it very difficult to safely get the car off the road and avoid accidents. Once I'm able to stop and put the car in park it will restart and drive normal again. Before, during, and after the engine shut down there are no lights on the dash or codes in the computer that identify an issue. This happens at least three times a week in all tempetures and conditions.

The Jeep Compass is equipped with a very dangerous ess start/stop system. First you must deactivate it every time you start the vehicle. Secondly when the vehicle shuts off at a stop light or stop sign, it feels more like it stalls than shuts off, a shudder goes thru the vehicle and the engine sputters and dies. Take your foot off the brake and maybe it will restart the vehicle, maybe not. Mine sputtered to life but had no power, very slowly the vehicle sputtered into the middle of an intersection and I thought the car was going to stall and quit in the middle of the intersection. (I have read about this happening to hundreds of Jeep Compass vehicles. Luckily I was able to get it to the side of the road and shut the car down. I waited about 10 minutes restarted the vehicle and turned off the ess system. This is a very dangerous system, and Jeep should be forced to recall it and fix it, or give owners a way to permanently deactivate it without having to unplug things under the hood that result in warning lights on the dash. Extremely poor and dangerous designed ess system. Please do not wait until someone dies to make them fix this!!!! it affects all 20117. 5 - 2019 model year vehicles equipped with the ess system.

After starting car and driving for 2 minutes emergency break engages and car shuts off while in motion, upon turning off the car and restarting while turning right the low pressure sensor appears then disappears and service engine warning comes on car completely shuts off while in motion with no warning after the alarm disappears off dash. This occurred multiple times while driving in busy intersections. It also occurred when the car got towed back to dealership.
