I have about 5500 miles on my new Compass. While in drive the vehicle display flashed oil pressure low for less than a second. Then any indication of that warning light is gone. The engine then shuts down with no warning. No brake lights which makes this extremely unsafe for the potential of a rear end crash. I took the car to the dealership who said that the engine consumed 3 quarts of oil. There was no indication that the car was low on oil until a second before the engine stalled and turned off.

My Jeep Compass 2016 had been to the mechanic in 2 different garages. For 60 days I've experienced engine shut off while in motion. There was no warning, no engine light. No warning what so ever. This situation was very dangerous as my car would lose power in the middle of the 4 way intersection, it would shut off on the freeway. Stall out and shut off at stop lights. I was afraid of driving my car but I had to get to work which was 30 miles away from my home. 2 mechanics told me that the engine on diagnostic testing showed no codes, they did not know what was wrong with it. Finally a mechanic looked at my research and agreed to replace the crankshaft sensor which had been recalled on 2016 Compass Jeep but my VIN was not under the recall (why) after this sensor was replaced the car drove perfectly, no more stalled engine and shut off while driving. I beleive that Jeep Chrysler should pay for this repair as it is a 2016 Jeep Compass and they have fixed others. I will never buy a Jeep or Chrysler. Most scary car problem I ever encountered. I am a 55 year old driver, having driven over a million miles in my life time. To have a car shut off its engine in mid flight is very dangerous. Hope this will help others understand what is happening if they own a Jeep.

Recall on 2016 Jeep Compass from may 9th- July 15 the crankshaft , camshaft sensor may only work intermittingly causing engine to stall. At 67,000 miles my car which always ran very well stalled, "engine shut off in mid flight" I was driving up a hill, slowed to stop and turn right when the engine died, completely shut off. I put Jeep in park. Tired to restart which it did not restart and I waited an hour for the triple aaa. We brought it to a mechanic who told me he could not find anything wrong with it as the diagnostic tests showed nothing , he started it and claimed he drove down the rode and back and it was fine. I picked up my Jeep and drove it home but was afraid to drive it anywhere. I called mechanic number 2 who took a look at it and told me his diagnostic equipment showed no code, he drove it and could not reproduce the problem he repaired the throttle body replace it and cleaned iac valve and mass air flow sensors. Told me it was fine should be ok to drive. I drove it off the lot not more than 15 miles as I was turning right slowing down then accelerating it stalled in mid flight car engine died. I put flashers on and put car in park, then 2 minutes later it started and I drove home. There is something very seriously wrong with this Jeep it could easily be involved in a collision as it is unpredictable when it will stop, engine dies. I will take it back to mechanic number 2 for a second evaluation. I have called the dealer. They told me they would charge me for diagnostic testing and if no problem I would have to pay them $117 for the hour they would put the mechanic on it to check it.
Engine shut off without warning while driving on interstate highway. Received messages service transmission and service engine. Coasted to stop on shoulder of road. Car would not restart for about 10 minutes. Checked codes afterwards; shows p0339 crankshaft position sensor a circuit intermittent and p0335 crankshaft position sensor a circuit. This presents a serious safety issue when car engine stops without warning.
Engine oil and stalling. I went for my 2nd oil change 8/27/2018. The service tech and a mechanic listened when I said the oil was basically gone and my husband had to add 2 quarts. I even checked all the system warnings and there is none for low oil. When pulling out into an intersection the car totally shut off at 4 different times. So the mechanic said yes those 2. 4 engines burn 1 quart each 1000 miles and when the oil is low the engine will just stop. I asked about why there are no warning lights, the mechanic again said yes there is not one. Having a car just shut off is so dangerous. It could have been a terrible accident if another car was coming any of those 4 shut offs. Also my car jerks when shifting gears. The service tech commented I needed a computer upgrade. While there for the oil change supposedly the upgrade was done. It just jerk again the other day when the transmission was shifting. This car is just a year old - all of these issues are terrible and dangerous.

I purchased a a brand new Jeep Compass and 12 days later it went haywire. I was driving in my neighborhood at a speed of no more than 20-35mph. The engine light illuminated and mpg on speedometer read 99mph then skipped to11mph and I was practically at a stand still. I was able to capture video of this. The next day the engine light was off and I figured I'd take it in the following business day (Monday). Well I didnt make it to Monday. The very next day, Sunday, the engine light illuminated again only this time then whiile driving on the highway. There was a message across the digital dash stating, "please pull to safety, vehicle will shut down soon". Then every light on the dash lit up and the speedometer began to show weird numbers. It looked like a christmas tree there were so many lights. That message was accurate because it certainly did. It shut down on the highway as I was attempting to pull to safety. I wasnt able to capture video as I was scared to death. I took the vehicle into the service department and was later told they couldnt recreate/reproduce the issue. So, after refusing to take it back home, they decided they'd have one of the technicians drive it home to see if would happen again. Needless to say 7 mos later they still have my car and now it just doesnt even start.
Our 2007 Jeep Compass has been stalling completely (engine shuts off) shortly after we fill up the gas tank. This issue has been occurring for around one year. It has happened while driving or stopped at a traffic light, less than a mile from the gas station, usually within a few minutes of pumping the gas. We fear filling up the tank to the top because the car has stalled in lanes of traffic. In the better cases, it stalls at a red light. This is a dangerous situation. We were encouraged to file this report after corresponding online with other Jeep owners who experienced this exact same issue.

I just leased a brand new Jeep Compass. At about 178 miles, I filled up my gas tank for the first time. After leaving the gas station, my car stalled about . 2 miles down the road while going about 10mph. The message on the dash states to shift into park and then into the desired gear, but the engine would not turn over. From there, the engine would start and I could drive, but only for a few seconds before the engine shut down again and the steering wheel locked. The dealership stated that there is an issue with the sensor in the passenger side door causing the issue, but I had no problems until I filled up my gas tank. I fear this will happen again while driving on the highway, or on a busy road.
First time this happened, I refueled my vehicle all the way to full. I drove off and got on the highway on-ramp, while I was accelerating, the car shut off, locked up the steering and the engine shut off while the car was still in drive, and the key was still in the ignition. I quickly stopped the car, put it in park and restarted the car, got on the highway and the incident didn't occur again. A few weeks later, the same thing happened. I refueled until the tank was full, drove about 100 yards, and the car shut off while still in drive with keys in ignition and the steering locked up while I was going around a sharp turn. I could have died if another car came around the turn at that time. I restarted the car and the same thing happened again within 50 feet. After that, restarting it a second time I was able to drive the car without it happening again. Scared to refill the car again. During each incident, no warning lights or indication came up on the dashboard, there was no way to tell what was happening.

Car shuts off when coming to a stop when the auto off/on is turned off. Engine light finally started coming on but did not at first. After restarting the car and trying to pull out it dies again sometimes leaving you in the middle of an intersection. I got stranded for about 20 minutes when it shut off. Eventually I was able to get it restarted and get home with it. Not sure if this is related but when turning I can hear a "ding" like a bell. There was also a light that came on which looked like a lightening bolt. I bought the car used and it has always seemed like the idol was set a little to low as it doesn't really move when you take your foot off the brake. Also, when the engine went off the instrument on the dash seemed to think the car was still operational. It wouldn't shut off like if you came home and shut the engine off.
Every time I fuel up vehicle it stalls leaving the gas station. Usually only a few hundred feet , it shuts down , I have to quickly put it into park and restart the engine. I now only put in 8 gals when its low on the gauge. Since then it wont stall. The car was accelerating leaving the station stopping in front of coming traffic.
Dangerous, engine stalling and complete electrical shut down, while driving at any speed, driving straight, turning, or just sitting there. The abs light flashes and then everything shuts down without warning. I sit for a minute, then I can restart and the vehicle runs fine. Except for the fact that the engine stalling will happen again. I took it to the dealer, they said there are no codes indicating a problem. The dealer cannot find what this issue is. There was a recall in Dec. 2013 for the exact same problem, however, Chrysler corp says that my VIN does not fit into vehicles that were recalled. It should be if my 2014 Jeep Compass is having the exact same problem. This is extremely dangerous, stalling in the middle of traffic both on the freeway and in the streets. And with the airbag module not replaced yet by a different recall, it makes it more dangerous if the vehicle stalls in traffic, then a car hits us and no airbag deploys.

After fiil up with gas it shut down while running at least 3 times.
Whenever the gas tank is filled up, upon driving 1-2 miles away from gas station on the highway or any road, the engine sputters and stalls. Today the entire engine shut off and locked up. Luckily I was not in heavy traffic at the time.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Compass. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning and the check engine and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was diagnosed as an electrical issue. The battery and alternator were replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

All engine lights came on, electrical components started going out, then car would not go over 10 miles per hour, even with the accelerator pushed all the way down, then the car completely shut down on the middle of a very heavily traffic road. Power steering, all electrical components and engine refused to work. Had to have the Compass towed to nearest dealer and problem was the entire computer system went out. 4 month old vehicle and the entire computer system fried. Took 6 days to get it replaced. Now two months later the exact same thing has happened again and the dealership doesn't seem to care. Says it's under warranty and will be fixed, but don't seem to understand the sever danger this defective vehicle puts my family and me in when we drive it without knowing when and where the computer system will blow again. What if I was pulling out of an intersection and the car shut down like this and my family gets hit by traffic. Something needs to be done!.

While pulling out of parking space engine shut down. While driving on a road the same day vehicle stopped running - engine shut down - had difficulty pulling off road because steering did not work. Taking it in to dealer to look at 5500 miles approx 2. 3 mos old. Not happy with new car.
The vehicle engine shut down while driving.
I was driving into the parking lot at walmart and the car actually turned itself off. I coasted into the parking spot and waited a few minutes. I turned the ignition again and the car turned on and then turned back off. I call aaa and they towed the car to ntb. They hooked the car up and stated they couldn't find a problem. They started the car and it started fine. After I left, I got maybe 3 miles down the road and the car turned off. I called ntb and they were ice enough to come to where I was. They were able to start the car; however, as soon as he backed up to turn around the car stalled again. He told me to leave the car, but it's hard to do that when they themselves don't know what's wrong and have no clue as to the cost. We sat for 10 minutes and the car started with no problem. I drove home with no more incidents. For the next 4 days nothing happened. On the 5th day, in traffic on 459n which is heavy and crazy, the car just shut off again almost causing the car behind me, who was too close anyway, to hit me. I pulled over and had the car towed home where it's sitting now. I have gone out to crank it and it turns over, but I'm not driving it. I have an appointment this Saturday to take it to a Jeep dealership on grants mills way to see if they can find exactly what's wrong wit this deathtrap. After looking at forums online, this is a huge problem. It's not just me.
Driving and engine just shut off. June 18,2014 driving and engine just shut off. July 10,2014 driving and engine just shut off. July 29,2014 driving and engine just shut off. August 6,2014 driving and engine just shut off. August 16,2014. This is the last straw!!! I was on a four lane and my car just shut off. Everyone was putting on breaks and honking their horns at me. I hit the emergency flasher fast having getting to know where it was from the other times I stalled out of the blue! it is a wonder I wasn't killed. What is wrong with Jeep all of their cars should be recalled period. This is going to the dealership Monday and they will be picking it up. I don't feel safe driving it anymore!.

As I was driving down the street to the gas station, I had about half a tank left, the check battery light would come on and my car would stall out as I was driving. I am afraid to drive my car now because this happened multiple times in January when the weather was cold and it had just rained, and now it is happening again in warm, sunny weather. I was lucky to not get in an accident because other cars were right behind me as I was driving. I would turn my car off, turn it back on and it would start, and then it would just shut down again after a few hundred feet. I took it to the dealership and they said they can't fix anything unless we can replicate the problem, but they couldn't. I don't want this to happen to me as I'm on a highway which could cause serious injury, so I am scared to drive my car, which I shouldn't be.
I purchased my Compass in June & 2 months later with mileage being460 I took a trip to virginia from NJ 3 hours into the trip driving on rte 66 which is a very busy highway 18 wheeler trucks flying by. The car shut down & I pull to the side but there is no shoulder on that highway so I was stuck up against a cement wall around a bend of cars flying by blaring their horns at me. Luckily state troopers were there on the other side for an accident there was screaming at us to move because that was a very dangerous spot today we yelled back the car will not start. One of the state troopers pain behind us with their lights and we had to wait on a tow truck and taxi cab for us to get to the hotel. The vehicle was left at a sunoco station as a cab drove around looking for a hotelavailable. The next morning we went to the sunoco and they said the car started as soon as I got there they did a diagnostic and nothing was wrong. I drove the car another two and a half hours to my destination and went to the Jeep dealer there. They kept the car all day and found nothing wrong but yet it stalled on me twice and would not restart. I was petrified to drive the vehicle back home which was a six hour trip so I handed in the Compass to the dealer where I had traveled to and had to purchase a new vehicle and come out of pocket $5,000. I tried to fight the dealer that sold it to me & back and forth Chrysler corp. They would not do anything about this they didn't even offer to pay my towing fee or my hotel fees. They did not give me any type of credit & I had proof of everything that had happened. Now I see all these people complaining of this situation. We could've been killed on that highway that had no shoulder god was definitely with us. & their representatives at Jeep didn't even care. I'm now a nervous driver & do not like to take any trips. This experience has took a toll on my life.
