I took my Jeep to have fuel pump relay and alternator recalls serviced at napleton Jeep in kissimmee FL and the car broke down a few days after being serviced, had the car towed to the dealership where they charged me $189 to say it was the starter that was bad and quoted me $800, I felt put off and got the car towed to a diff private owned shop for a second opinion, the mechanic did a full diagnosis and provided proof that the starter is good and its the alternator, stated that the dealership not only installed improperly but that the part is faulty,. Ground wire was not connected to the engine and therefore it couldn't be started alternator charge wire installed in an incorrect position and tugging on harness and protective cover can't be placed over power wire alternator not charging and getting extremely hot, all of which should be covered under warranty, so I went back to the dealership and asked for the service manager, oscar, who told me he would not only not refund any money for the mis diagnosis but he would also charge me for any further repairs even tho the part that was installed two weeks ago is the one that has and issue and should one still under the same warranty. Then I was harassed by service manager who threatened violence on my family over the phone. The Jeep now even once repaired could have so many issues arise as well because of the negligence this dealership has shown, the have underqualified and unsupervised technicians doing jobs they are not ready to be doing alone. Now I worry for my safety and longevity of my vehicle. The dealership also left the car running the entire time they had it. So my battery was shot and it is brand new. I have all receipts and documents as well just your website isn't allowing to upload them all so I included a photo to show how negligent this dealership was.
Vehicle will not start despite having good battery, good starter, good plugs, and good fuel pump. This has happened before related to faulty oil pressure relay and faulty tipm.
When the car is stationary it will not start when the button is pushed. The car shudders and the computer freezes. It can only start when the key is used in place of the push button. It seems as if the starter is not relaying to the fuel pump. This car underwent a big recall in March of 2017. The fuel pump, fuse box, battery and alternator were replaced. It was at the dealers for three weeks. The Jeep broke down and had smoke coming from under the hood. Unfortunately, we received the recall notice three days after the problem occurred, so we had taken it to our mechanic. Then we had to have an additional tow to the dealership. (recall r09).
The alternator burned out, burning out also the starter, the wiring harness and the computer. This seems similar to the recall ordered for smaller Jeep engines, by our p60/NHTSA 14v-634 recall. I was driving the car when the battery light came on. The car remained in operation. I drove it to a repair shop which found the issues. When I got to the shop, I could smell a burning odor. Date of 9/1/2019 approximate.
Vehicle struggles to start when starter button engaged.
Starter turns over but wont crank and leaves me stranded. Horn goes off at random times. Windows and door locks sometimes wont work. Google says its the tipm. Happens while vehicle is moving and non moving. Has happend multiple times.
Vehicle won;t start due to a tipm starter /fuel relay is this a recall.
Letter from consumer regarding issues with their 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee due to a recall; seeking reimbursement. The consumer stated on December 8, 2016, the vehicle would not start. After an unsuccessful attempt by aaa to jump start it, the consumer had the vehicle towed aaa service center. Upon diagnostics, it was determined the problem needed repaired by an authorized Jeep dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined the alternator shorted out and drained the battery. The dealer also found the starter circuit internal to timp to be open. The dealer replaced the battery and alternator and installed a new pcm and timp and reprogrammed both modules at a cost of $ 2,636. 54. The consumer is seeking reimbursement as a result of the recall he discovered on the internet.
Alternator burned up while vehicle on. Vehicle was being driven down city road and when I stopped smoke and burn smell observed. It was found that there was an internal fault in the alternator, which shorted out the battery, starter and ecm (computer). Car had to be towed for repair. Jeep would not compensate $2,624 in repairs and $267 car rental since it was not on recall.
On the first of March, my wife and daughter were about to start their day in the usual way. She opened the garage door and used her key fob to remote start our 2012 Jeep gc limited ( around 42k miles) ( factory installed remote starter) she walked away for less than 4 minutes and returned to see smoke coming from front passenger side of Jeep. She called for me, and pushed the aux button to be sure the vehicle was off. I came running and despite my attempts to open the hood and beat back what quickly escalated into open flames I retreated to ensure my family's safety and to be sure the emergency responders were called. Thankfully I was able to remove some potential fuel for the fire by removing our second car from the garage (also a Chrysler) and securing the door between the house and garage. Luck intervened when the flames destroyed the garage door assembly causing the garage door to fall and help remove some oxygen from the fire. Eventually first responders arrived and were able to knock down the fire with foam . Later the firemen pushed the Jeep into the driveway to ensure it was doused. Though the remote start may not be directly responsible for whatever arc sparked the fire, it's my belief that its use contributed directly to the conditions that conflagrated the situation. If the wiring harness is otherwise suspect I would not be surprised considering recent revelations on related models. The vehicle was just removed from the site today 3/9/2016 to copart facility, by insurance company for further investigation into the source of the fire.
Car will not turn over not getting fuel to starter, car cuts off while driving numerous times. There is a recall for this on same models built prior to 8/01/2011,my car was built 8/15/2011 two weeks after. This is the exact problem as the recall.
I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was bought brand new in December 2011. In 2013 I experienced my first incident where my Jeep started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died. I tried multiple times to restart it and could not get it to restart. I finally decided to completely turn off the vehicle and start the ignition process over. Thankfully that seemed to work. Between the first incident and the next service visit (January 2014), this happened approximately 6-10 times. I made the dealer aware of the issue and they noted it on the service sheet; however they told me they saw no error codes and could not recreate the problem. The in February I had an incident where it started then stalled, then the security alarm sounded. I had to remove the push start and use the key in the ignition in order to disengage the security system. Then approximately one week later I started the Jeep to go to work and it died after running for 1-2 seconds. I restarted the ignition process, this time when I let go of the push button start the starter continued to crank for approximately 10 seconds, until I exited the vehicle and locked the car. Now in the last two days the vehicle has started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died on three separate occasions. I have made an appointment with the dealer and shared the above information with them. I have advised them that I think I have a bad tipm. I am hoping to get this addressed immediately since I have 33,500 miles on the vehicle and do not want this to be replaced after the warranty expires. I am seeing the average cost to replace the tipm at a dealer is $1200-$1400. There are enough similar stories about these sort of issues that Jeep/Chrysler should issue a recall and stand behind their product.
