We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel 3. 0 which is part of the overall class action lawsuit with the epa and carb. We went through the process, received the software update & remuneration for the loss in value on the vehicle from fca. Fca clearly indicated in its literature regarding the settlement that the performance, mileage, adblue/bluedef usage, etc. Would not be affected (see attached information showing the emissions software update) however, our experience has been quite the opposite as I understand is common place after the upgrade. Fca did not adequately represent the major performance changes that were to be expected by the emissions software update & downplayed any issues. The main issues that we have encountered since the update include: 1. The check engine light coming on 3-4 times; 2. A major and dangerous hesitation/lag of the vehicle when you start it & attempt to accelerate-especially when the vehicle has been sitting for a period of time. 3. A highway mileage decrease from an average of 27-28mpg to 19-21mpg; 4. Significant increase in the use of blue-def; we have had to take the Jeep in for service to check the check engine light several times & it is again in the shop yesterday/today for the same issues. At this point, we believe that fca did not correctly represent & repair the ecodiesel 3. 0 engine in our Jeep Grand Cherokee & as a result of the upgrade, our performance has greatly diminished and we have suffered with a non-performing vehicle. We ask that NHTSA lodge a formal complaint on our behalf and be made aware of the continued issues with the vehicles & the misrepresentation of the performance issues.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2019

My check engine light came on and upon running a diagnostic there is a problem with the left cylinder head valve and it needs to be replaced. I tried to order the part from Jeep and get the car repaired at my local mechanic. My warranty had ended 5 months prior and my car had 105,000 miles so I had to pay to get this fixed. Jeep could not provide the part because they were out of stock. They had been out of stock for four months and put me on a waiting list of 6-8 months. They also advised not to drive the car due to the severity of the issue. They also informed me that this is a nationwide epidemic and the specific part needed is on back order for over 4,000 people. They sympathized with the strain this puts on their customers but we have no option but to wait for the part to be available. This issue has not yet been resolved as a recall. I am at a loss because I cannot use the car, yet I need to have transportation to work, at the least. I have yet to come to a reasonable solution of what to do for the next 6-8 months without an operable car. Financially this is a huge setback and Jeep is not taking responsibility for this issue. Aside from the extreme inconvenience, this is also a very expensive repair that should not land in the hands of over 4,000 Jeep customers, but the company who is responsible for providing and maintaining safe vehicles. This is not only an issue for 2014 Jeep but it has been documented starting with 2011-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2019

Our dealership completed epa and carb emissions recall v08 for 3. 0l diesel emissions on 20 may 2019. Mileage out was 63,819. 200 miles later, we started the vehicle as normal. Less than a mile later, as we started to accelerate onto the highway, the check engine light came on and our vehicle's information center displayed two separate diesel exhaust fluid (def) related warnings. The first saying def needed service/contact the dealership, while the second warning said we could not restart the vehicle after driving another 200 miles. We immediately found a safe spot to pull over and called the dealership. The acting service manager advised us that it was safe to drive the vehicle to the dealership as long as there were no obvious performance issues. He said it was probably emission related, that we would be ok if we didn't drive over 200 miles. He said going over 200 miles might abruptly put the vehicle into a "limp mode"! we were 150 miles away from the dealership but the vehicle was otherwise operating normally, so we took the service manager's advice and drove to the dealership. Our Jeep is an off-road, trail-rated, go anywhere vehicle designed to be used out in the wilderness/national parks as well as on the highway. It is an unacceptable safety hazard for the vehicle's computer to have control over starting because of an emission violation/problem. Especially when in a remote location where a reliable vehicle is paramount to safety. Moreover, there is significant potential for a serious crash if the vehicle abruptly goes into a "limp mode" either out on the highway or at a stop light. To date, our dealership has not found a solution to the check engine light nor the def warnings. They are keeping our vehicle and working with fiat/Chrysler automotive (fca) representatives and engineers on a solution.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2018

Constant cylinder 6 misfire. All 6 spark plugs have been replaced. Coil and fuel injector replaced. Still showing cylinder 6 misfire. Seen cylinder head being replaced on years 2011-2013 but not for a 2014. This should be covered. When the check engine light came on, it had seizure like convulsions when coming to a stop and while in idle until spark plugs were replaced. Still running rough, very shaking like it is going to stall out.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2017

I have taken my Jeep to the dealership 4 times already. I have only owned it for 3 months. About a month of that I haven't driven it. Because its been in the shop for so long. It has a problem where it shifts really hard from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. It moves the car forward then jerks it back really hard, like you're getting hit from behind. Its scary especially when there are small children in the car. I had thought I had bought a reliable car but it seems that 30k has gone to waste and my hoopty was more reliable. The engine also shakes and sometimes it's stuck in third gear! its embarrassing and scary to pull out in flowing traffic. A check engine light has came on before but I have still not "met" the requirements for a new transmission. They replaced the valve body but it only drove smooth for a few days then went back to jerk the entire car again.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

Vehicle failed suddenly while turning in the middle of a busy intersection (city driving). Vehicle systems reported electronic throttle module failure, electronic barking system failure, airbag system failure, vehicle sensor failure all simultaneously. Check engine light turned on.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2015

The problem(s) that I have had or currently have with my vehicle are as follows: 1. July 8, 2015: (mileage 12,453) car dash lights were lighting up and then the engine died later in the middle of the road. Finally the car started up however the transmission would not shift and I drove it home in low gear. On July 9, 2015, I took the car into campbell Chrysler service department in centralia washington (see service slip) and it was returned to me on July 13, 2015. 2. July 15, 2015: again, the car dash lights were lit up and the car was stuck in low gear. I turned the car into to campbell Chrysler service department (see service slip) on July 16, 2015. The car was returned to me on August 18, 2015. 3. August 24, 2015: again the car dash lights were lit up and the car stuck in low gear and the motor was surging. I took the car back to campbell Chrysler service department on August 25, 2015. The car was returned on August 28, 2015. 4. August 31, 2015: I drove to seattle and again the check engine light came on and the shifter lights would flash and speedometer numbers would go from large font to small font. When dash lights and warning lights plus different characters flashed then the engine would surge. Currently, the car was brought back to campbell Chrysler service department on September 16, 2015 because all the warning lights came on, again. This vehicle has become a safety hazard for my family. I’m not comfortable driving the car and concerned for my safety as well as my families. The first time the car stalled on me it happened at a stop sign on a two way highway. The engine surging is also a safety issue. I have been with-out my car over 43 plus days and have been greatly inconvenienced.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

Event occured December 22, 2014. After multiple monthly check engine lights and "reflash" of the computer, the vehicle information center gave a warning of "incorrect def detected. " (only mopar def had been used). Within 10 miles the vic warning stated "vehicle will not restart in 200 miles. " return to the dealer again after the previous visit 3 days prior to "reflash" the computer indicated a recent TSB for replacement of the catalytic converter. I also had them check the def pump and nozzle which was clogged with crystalized def. After two weeks of waiting with them not able to find a catalytic converter and new oxygen sensor I was forced to trade the vehicle at a loss. (Chrysler would not offer any help on the trade).

13 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

I really need your help. In April of 2014 I bought a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee summit edition for $60,000. I was thrilled to have finally owned my dream car since 1997! I started having issues with the car in August. . . And when I say issues, I don't mean the radio blitzing out. The car turned off in the middle of a 4 way intersection and wouldn't restart for 3-4 attempts!!!! terrified I took it to the dealership who said it registered some check engine light codes but they couldn't find why it did that. They turned the light off and had me pick the car up. After repeating the same thing, about 8-10 more times the car just shutting off and going back into the shop a second and third time they now said OH we figured out what the problem was and its fixed. I was thrilled for this to be over! a couple weeks later I was driving on the freeway going 65 mph with no cars around me or insight. All of the sudden the car dashboard said brake!!! and the car applied the abs brakes and abruptly slowed the car down to 40 mph!!!! I was so scared at that point, to top it off the car again shut off and the check engine light back on. I took the car to the dealership for the 4th time where they now have put me in a rental for 40 days. This time I was told my car registered 57 codes but they were not able to fix or diagnose the problem. I expressed my concern when I was asked to pick the car up. I don't feel safe in that car and I have lost faith in that vehicle. I asked that they buy the car back since it legally falls under the lemon law and they refused. They left me no choice but to hire a lemon law attorney. I now have lost faith in Jeep/Chrysler for the way they are handling this. They would rather put myself and others in harms way than to do the right thing. Kelly.

14 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

1) driving ~ 45 mph. 2) parking/crash detection sensor on the front driver side makes audible noise for 2 seconds, then noise ceases - this parking/crash detection issue was reported to the dealership 3 days prior. 3) all consoles go blank, to include speedometer (which is digital), temperature, navigation, etc. (driver & center consoles) - hands free phone call linked within the vehicle disconnects midway through call at this time as well. 4) engine appears operational, but seems to be in a lower gear and acceleration is problematic, brakes are sluggish. 5) electrical system in the vehicle reboots while driving ~10 seconds later, displaying multiple warning messages (check engine light, low battery voltage, no abs, suspension system, etc. ). 6) pulled the car over at the first safe location ~1/4 mile. 7) vehicle would not go into park, applied emergency brake and turned vehicle off. 8) restarted vehicle, check engine and low battery voltage light remains on, but vehicle appears stable enough to drive ~2 miles home.

15 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee has been has been having electrical problems. Several different electrical problems occur after which the check engine light will illuminate. Of these electrical problems the dangerous ones include: headlights shutting off, dashboard completely shutting, and vehicle shut off while in motion. We have had the following replace in our vehicle: burnt wires in our engine harness, faulty solenoid, alternator, pcm, and abs module. The issue still occurs. Purchasing the vehicle in Dec we've brought the vehicle back into the dealership for service 3-4 times. While we haven't filed for lemon law yet, Jeep promised us that they would take a look at replacing our vehicle after a number of problem. Their answer to us was to wait to see if the issue occurred again. While we may file for lemon law, we feel that it will be important that we report these issues as they are experienced by other consumers on forums across the internet.

16 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2014

Check engine light came on, took to service garage. Diagnosed with ck dtc's-p0302 #2 cylinder misfire. Service department claims they road tested -issue cleared. I picked up the vehicle, drove approximately 5 miles with same issue. I called dealer, they said to continue to drive the vehicle for a week or so, and see if it fixes itself.

17 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

Evts inoperative, no blue light. Took to dealership and found wire to evts emergency button severed, possibly shorted. Repaired wires, did not correct condition. Replaced with new evts, condition repaired successfully. At same time also had recall n58 performed, reprogram instrument cluster abs / al. Then at 4040 miles oil change due light came on and had the first oil change done. The check engine light came on a very short time after that and back to the dealership at 4654 miles. Said it was a defective oil pressure sensor, sensor was replaced, cleared codes and found no additional problems. Now at about 12000 miles the oil change due light never came on, but took the car in for an oil change anyway. Now the check engine light along with a low oil pressure light came on, car did not want to shift or speed up, got off the road and had car towed to dealership waiting to be repaired again.

18 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

Shortly after starting vehicle and driving at approx 10 mph, check engine light came on. 30 seconds later check engine light started flashing and misfire was felt, car began to shudder. I pulled over, turned off and restarted, again flashing check engine light and shuddering. Vehicle was towed to dealer, who also felt misfire on cold start next am and codes confirmed misfires in multiple cylinders. Dealer inspected engine but found no issues. Next day, car operated normally. Approximately 1-2 weeks later, on starting vehicle entire instrument cluster lit up, with check air bag warning and lights indicated abs failure and ecs off. Car drove, but I subsequently realized speedometer did not work, it was very frightening to drive on highway without knowing my speed. After restarting check engine light remained on, but vehicle functioned normally. Was going to bring back to dealer, but check engine light went off after about 6 drives. These issues are very worrisome and I feel uncomfortable every time I start the ignition.

19 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. The consumer immediately noticed upon receipt of the vehicle, that it did not drive smoothly and lacked power during acceleration. However, she felt it was due to lack of familiarity with the vehicle. The performance of the vehicle deteriorated to a point where a problem was evident. Frequently, not all the time, the vehicle was very sluggish to accelerate and occasionally not respond at all for about ten seconds as the rpm's went up. It felt as the though, she was forcing the gas by pressing on the accelerator pedal, but the gas was blocked from flowing, or the vehicle was stuck in a low gear and not up-shifting. Also, the check engine light illuminated, with only 1,231 miles. The consumer had to return to the dealer, several more times, due to the check engine light illuminating.

20 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

The vehicle stalled for no reason. It took multiple attempts (approx 10 times) to restart the vehicle. It would start and I could drive 40-50 yards and would stall again. Multiple lights came on such as vehicle in gear (it wasn't), etc. Once it did restart and I was able to drive to the dealer the check engine light stayed on. The vehicle has done this twice now without cause (I have only had the vehicle for 4 weeks). The Jeep dealership kept the vehicle for a couple days. They were finally able to reset the codes and did a software update. I found out a crank sensor had been replaced before I purchased the vehicle. They said they could not guaranty it would not happen again and to check back in the near future as additional software updates may become available.
