The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v699000 (engine and engine cooling), and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure occurred. The contact stated that coolant had leaked onto the driveway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the radiator was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the egr cooler failed (exhaust gas recirculation) and there was coolant intrusion into the oil. The contact was informed that the egr cooler needed to be replaced, along with the coolant bottle, the upper and lower radiator hoses, and possibly the high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The contact was informed that the recall repair was completed with an upgraded part. The failure mileage was approximately 173,000.
Engine light came took in for service. The dealer recommends replacing a damaged intake manifold for $2,247. 33. It appears there are recalls on these for same year as my vehicle involving both Jeep and ram trucks. However my VIN does not fall into the recall? I find this odd and I understand there has to be a cut off, but I believe my vehicle was made around the same time and I don’t think Chrysler was aware of the problem until later… I also have engine oil cooler leaking which I am unsure if it is related, but now I have extensive repairs for coolant flushing/ radiator hoses and coolant hoses, metal fuel lines, and thermostat… I am just disappointed that a recall is valid on the same model and year as mine, I was unaware and now I have a $8,570. 40 quote to get this fixed. I am wondering if the egr cooler failure has led to this massive problem as I am aware the engine oil cooler and egr cooler are releated along with manifold function/ efficiency. Now I have oil and coolant mixing in my system… if my eco diesel Jeep were included in the original recall, I may not be dealing with this unexpected visit. Respectfully, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I already complained before about the engine overheating in the car not being able to start so it took the car over to authorized dealership to where I could have my oil change done and the dealer noticed that there is engine oil that has mixed in to my coolant reservoir and that now I might have a blown head gasket after contacting several different dealerships about the recall they informed me that everything happened fixed on my vehicle which I have not been aware of since I've had the vehicle everything that's been repaired has been out of my own pocket and expenses the recall is for a egr cooler which is the same recall that I've complained about numerous times I'm not able to drive the vehicle and I'm looking at repairs of anywhere to four to $10,000 now to replace my whole engine.
The component that failed is the egr cooler. It’s available upon request for inspection. This component can crack and cause the car to start on fire and it’s currently cracked causing the car to not be able to be driven. The recall occurred in 2020 and I was told by three different dealerships including the one that fixed it foxchrysler in canada and they all stated the recall had been remedied. The vehicle was taken to four separate mechanics for inspection. The warning lamps that are illuminated are the check engine light, service awd, and service electric throttle control module and the code comes back as the egr cooler when the vehicle is ran through the diagnostic system. They first appeared July 19th 2024. I called the dealership I bought the truck from who informed me the whole recall wasn’t fixed and to contact an authorized dealership in my area to get it fixed. (motor cars of lansing, mi) I spoke with the dealership who they referred me to (griffin Jeep and Chrysler s 27th street milwaukee WI) they informed me that the recall was marked as complete effective 03/31/2021 and to call the dealership they fixed the recall in canada and see if it had a warranty. Spoke with a rep at fox Chrysler in canada who informed me the part only had a two year warranty and would’ve expired 03/31/2023. My car is a used car that only had a one year warranty and I would have to pay for this part that was recalled out of pocket that could run me anywhere from $700-$10,000 which is way more than the car is worth.
In Aug my warning light came on, I called mopar was given a case number it was not until October that I was contacted after repeatedly calling for status. The is was the egr cooler which mopar showed had been replaced when recall issued, I was advised by stellantis to have towed to dealer, it was towed oct 15, dealer advised it was replaced a few years earlier but I provided proof it had not, dealer then replaced but then advised it could not be cranked due to not holding coolant, it was not doing this prior to being towed. I then asked for the outstanding recalls to be completed, they advised no parts…I see now one is showing incomplete that should have been done, the other is a problem with part, I called after receiving a letter those parts were in and they said they were not, I then called you and was advised I am on a list to have this completed. I have been having to rent cars to get me to dr appointments since August. It is currently in the shop having the dpf r.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer after receiving notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v699000 (engine and engine cooling) and the recall repair was performed. Shortly after the check engine light had illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the exhaust gas recirculation (egr) valve had failed. The contact was informed that the exhaust was leaking into the engine and seeping into the cabin of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the failure was related to the recall repair; however, the dealer was unable to provide another repair free of charge. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case regarding the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 235,000.
Their is oil being introduced into the coolant reservoirs. Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel. The vehicle are having failed oil coolers that stemmed from the failed egr coolers. The driving of these vehicles for over a year awaiting a fix has caused the engines to have other failures. There has been over 10 recalls on these ecodiesels since I bought the Jeep brand new in 2014. They made a deal with the epa lawsuit and did a software patch which changed the engine function issues, they did a patch on the power train control module, transmission control module, and apparently the ecm engine control module. I’ve had nothing but “check engine” light codes in since the first patch in 2016 that they didn’t put in the records, I have the work order showing the patch. In 2019 the lawsuit the epa approved for them, allowed them to place a new patch that caused other components to continue to malfunction like the” high pressure fuel pump now. The dealerships are saying the failures aren’t due to their negligence and are causing consumers to deal with costly repairs that’s not their faults. I got a bill for $29,000 for a new engine, they said my Jeep was under extended warranty but don’t want to help foot the repairs. Also stated they would reimburse recall work that customers paid for prior to recalls coming out within 60 days, but it has taken me over 4 years to try and get reimbursed. My car is at the dealership now and has been down since April 29, 2022.
Recall for diesel egr cooler has been requested by me to get fixed on multiple occasions. The dealership keeps telling me they do not have the parts. Now my check light engine is on and my car is leaking coolant profusely.
The contact 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact had received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v699000 (engine and engine cooling) and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for the recall repair. The vehicle was repaired. After several months, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stop sign, the contact saw in the rearview mirror that there was steam coming from underneath the rear of the vehicle. The contact kept driving and the vehicle became overheated and stalled. The contact parked the vehicle at a parking lot and added water to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the egr valve was cracked. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.
The egr cooler was not properly installed by the manufacturer which has caused several failures to the vehicles engine components (such as oil cooler, engine coolant system, and the egr itself). Additionally, the egr cooler has an active safety recall due to risk of engine explosion and vehicle fire. The parts and remedy for this recall have been available since November. This repair is covered under both the active recall as well as an extended emissions warranty that was required by a federal judge in the settlement agreement for the emissions scandal which fca settled with the federal courts to provide remedies to its customers. Thus far, fca has not honored the terms of this federally required extended emissions warranty on two separate occasions. I have contacted three separate dealers and fca on two occasions. Fca has refused to assist in the egr repairs and the dealers have refused to perform the repairs. I’ve not been able to get any assistance from fca, or the dealers. My egr cooler is a safety risk and this should be addressed immediately. I have been working to get this resolved with Jeep since March 12th. I need the law to be enforced.
According to the recall notice I received in the mail, the egr cooler needs to be replaced. I scheduled an appointment and took the vehicle in. Upon arrival I was told that, yes there is a repair solution but that the parts are not available. But that they would place an order and notify me when it arrives. It has been several months and still no repair. *note* I am having to add engine coolant on a regular basis.
Chrysler has a recall for the egr cooler on the Dodge ram ecodiesel (vb1/NHTSA 19v-757) this is the same engine and egr cooler as the Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel. There have been reports of Grand Cherokee 3. 0 ecodiesel vehicles catching fire and burning to the ground. Jeep currently does not have a fix for this issue or parts for it, yet we are still allowed to drive around in our vehicles. This is unacceptable.
Hello, my vehicle has had a number of recalls for emissions and drive train. Due the number of modifications by Jeep, my vehicle's performance has been negatively affected to a point that sometimes it is dangerous to drive. Every software update results in lower mileage and sluggish performance. Now Jeep is slow rolling egr recall and letting a dangerous situation to develop.
Nothing has happened yet but there is a recall out (w79) to replace the egr cooler as an engine fire could occur. Was notified of this recall nearly 4 months ago and yet Jeep says there are still no parts available to do it. Can you get on their case to get this done?.
Unable to get parts for the w79 recall for the egr cooler after waiting more than 6 month. Current wait is more than 3 more months. This recall can cause fires to break out in the engine and is not being handled properly by the manufacturer!.
Engine fire occurred while vehicle was in operation. Vehicle has 3. 0l eco diesel engine. Dodge ram 1500 trucks with same engine are on recall (fca vb1/NHTSA 19v-757) for fires due to egr cooler failure, but this vehicle has not been recalled. I am a professional engineer that determined the fire origin and cause of the vehicle is due to the same issue. Yesterday, I participated in a destructive examination of the vehicle with a representative for fca present. However, I am not confident that fca will provide notice of this issue to NHTSA in a timely manner, if fca provides notice at all. The fire originated inside the engine intake consistent with an egr cooler failure. I urge NHTSA to investigate this model vehicle and extend the recall beyond the Dodge ram 1500 trucks. Mileage provided is as of last oil change June 12, 2020. The speed listed is an estimate based on information provided from the person driving the vehicle when the fire occurred.
Was pulling a trailer and vehicle overheated and caused radiator to leak. Dealer states exhaust fumes were present in coolant overflow tank and states engine needs to be replaced, but refuses to believe this is caused by an egr cooler that is under recall.
Vehicle overheated - manifold / egr had to be replaced due to severe soot build up. Engine compartment was smoking and coolant empty when vehicle overheated. Vehicle is a fire risk.
Fiat Chrysler automobiles (fca) issued a recall for the ram 1500 ecodiesel, model year 2014-2019, for potential fires. Their recall states that the emissions gas re-circulation (egr) cooler can develop cracks and there is risk of an engine fire and potential for injury resulting. Fca goes on to state that injuries have occurred as a result of this particular engineering or manufacturing fault. My vehicle, the 2014 Grand Cherokee, was purchased with the optional 3. 0l v6 turbodiesel engine, the "ecodiesel. " this is the identical engine to the ram and possess the same egr and egr cooler, as well as the same intake manifold, which is where the fires have seemingly occurred. The Jeep Grand Cherokees, model years 2014-2016, that utilize the optional ecodiesel engine were not named in the same recall, nor in any subsequent recalls from fca, and the risk of fire should be identical between the two vehicles. I am only assuming that the reason the Grand Cherokee was excluded, was because it was sold far less frequently with the ecodiesel engine option. If the ram 1500 was recalled for a fire and injury risk, the Jeep Grand Cherokee that's powered by the same engine (and the same fire risk) should also be included under the same recall. It's concerning that a manufacturer admits significant health and safety risks due to a particular engine, but only includes one model that utilizes this engine. I do understand that this was a voluntary recall, but I believe that both vehicle models should be included under this recall, since it relates to the engine, not the specific vehicle utilizing it.
Vehicle overheated and spewed all coolant. Several dealer visits, replaced egr, manifold, cylinder heads, hoses, thermostat etc. One occasion fuel was dripping into the engine compartment after repair and the engine compartment was smoking. Another occasion the manifold was smoking. It's only a matter of time before one catches fire. These are suvs used to haul families.
Oil was constantly running low, and on 2 occasions was found to be empty, even after oil changes. No signs of leaks or oil burning, so I assumed the dealership screwed up. Over the summer, the condensation from the a/c was leaving stains on my driveway, but still no signs of oil. A google search of a/c condensation water stains for my Jeep revealed that the engine oil cooler might be the cause. Sure enough, an inspection revealed oil sitting around the oil cooler. I took it to pellegrino Jeep and they confirmed the oil cooler had cracked and needed to be replaced. The repair cost me a little over $1000! unless Jeep redesigned this part, I will eventually experience another out of warranty failure. When Jeep was contacted, they did not provide any help since my vehicle had 73k miles on it and was out of warranty. My contention is that there really is no way to determine how many miles were on the vehicle when the part failed. Its a known fact that Jeep changed the design of the part from metal to plastic. The consumer should not be responsible for Jeeps engineering errors. I'm fearful that my engine may have suffered irreparable damage, causing premature failure.
Driver side air conditioner blows hot air even when temp is set as low as 63 degrees while the passenger side works normally. Service rep at dealership informed me that this is a common problem with Jeep vehicles. Was told repairs could be over $1000. If Jeep knows that this is a reoccurring problem, why should I have to pay for their error?.
The egr cooler failed, allowing hot coolant to be directed into the intake manifold. The hot coolant caused the premature failure of internal mechanical components in the intake manifold and sever thermal damage to the intake manifold. The intake manifold, egr cooler, and other fuel components were replaced at owner's expense. Other owners experiencing this failure have encountered fires in the engine bay due to the excessive heat applied to the composite intake manifold. This failure is typically undetected until a significant loss of coolant has occurred, or the intake manifold is damaged enough to cause a malfunction detected by the computer. The ram 1500 model that uses this engine already has a recall for the egr cooler. This recall should be extended to the Jeep Grand Cherokee models as well.
Squeeling on every start up. Hard shifting several complaints. Chrysler has issued a service bulletin #07-002-15 rev. A to address a screeching noise on startup, or more specifically an idler pulley noise during cold start on the vehicles listed below: 2014 2015 Jeep cherokee 2011 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 2014 Dodge durango 2011 2014 Dodge charger 2011 2014 Dodge challenger 2011 2014 Chrysler 300 2011 2014 Dodge journey 2011 2014 Chrysler 200, Dodge avenger 2011 2014 Chrysler town and country, Dodge caravan the bulletin applies only to vehicles built on or before September 01, 2014 and those vehicles equipped with 3. 2l v6 24v vvt, or 3. 6l v6 24v vvt engine. Chrysler states that the sound is a loud high frequency screeching noise on startup that happens within 20 seconds of engine startup and lasts about 90 seconds intermittently during a cold engine start, approximately 0 degrees c (32 degrees f) and below. The fix is a new updated idler pulley #05281301aa idler pulley.
After the 3rd periodical maintenance performed at 59. 793 km on Nov. 2017 the 28th,the vehicle in standstill with the gear engaged switched suddenly off (ecoand drive mode on). Pressing the starting button, it restarted and remained ok for a long, but without any alert the switching off happened again and again. Sometimes a cranking lead to fail the ignition. Once the shutdown happened also with the vehicle running, not in standstill, with an high risk of accident. So the vhl went to workshop again in dec2017, feb2018 and mar2018 and the results of the workshops (different in these months) was always not trouble found. The problem of turning off in standstill, usually happens at the time of departure at the traffic light, in drive (gear 1),but it happened also in parking mode, with not cold engine and on cluster is reported"low oil pressure" (oil change less than a month ago). I point out that the vehicle is used in the style of mixed driving, every day traveling in the city but also runs daily routes on the highway so I assume that the regeneration of fap takes place correctly. The use of the vehicle is not heavy. The vehicle is always recovered at night in the boxg (the temperature does not fall below 0 degrees) and therefore is not exposed to extreme weather conditions. Please check that there are no recall actions that have not been carried out in consideration of the persistence of the anomaly, I request that the workshop be supported by a second technical level to allow the resolution of the problem and avoid the replacement of unnecessary parts.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v699000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to jeff d'ambrosio Dodge Chrysler Jeep downingtown (1221 e lancaster Ave, downingtown, PA 19335; (610) 269-9500) where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the egr cooler was replaced five times however, there was a fracture which allowed gasoline to enter the engine, causing the engine to fail. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
During a drive up a mountain grade in southern California and towing a recreational boat on 7-4-15, our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3. 0l ecodiesel engine overheated (I. E. Coolant) and the oil temperature reach over 300 degrees. These conditions caused the vehicle to go into a very slow driving condition (I. E. 5mph) on a two (2) lane highway causing a traffic jam behind us and a dangerous situation since turnout lanes were infrequent. When opening the hood, it appeared that the coolant had sprayed out of the reservoir through the cap and onto the engine. We attempted to cool the engine down over a two (2) hour period and added over 1. 5 gallons of a water/coolant mixture however, the vehicle still overheated and had the engine oil reach over 300 degrees until we could park it for several more hours. The vehicle is rated to tow 7200lbs. With the factory installed towing package however, Jeep curiously did not install a towing feature on the model to help with shifting, etc. The boat and trailer weighs less than 3450lbs. This is an unsafe condition and I am afraid that the issue has damaged the engine. The Jeep/Chrysler assistance line would only tow the vehicle but not our boat and was no help to us so we were left on our own during our 4th of July vacation. Jeep needs to provide a towing feature, install a heavy duty additional oil cooler and additional engine cooling provisions for the Jeep Grand Cherokees with the 3. 0l ecodiesel and factory towing package from a safety and equipment reliability/longevity perspective. Please assist us. Thank you.
From a stop, right turn, accel towards planned speed of 60. At app. 50mph approaching guardrails then bridge the vehicle 'locks up' (no screeching brakes), thought 'trans' (previous unresolved problems), engine sputters, about to die, speed has dropped 30mph, (assume no brake lights). Quick decision (rails 75'), get to shoulder. Small shoulder, deep ditch with a steep downhill pitch to the river. Just as I was about to enact the decision the engine "roars" to life and hits 65mph before I can react and apply the brakes mid-bridge. The whole incident only took seconds, maybe 7 to 10. Took it, once again, to blevins motors, potsdam NY and once again was told that their diagnostic computer saw no abnormalities. This time I asked for a print out of said report and was told there was no such thing as a 'print out'. I am a 100% disabled vet with a head injury and ptsd. This the salesman was notified of the first thing. I did not mention the ptsd as it had always been my problem and explosive anger was never present. The "injury" was after months of lies and 'dirty dealing' from the start that they finally 'beat a path' in my brain to the anger part. It led to many visits with my va psychologist, loss of friends as I seemed abnormally consumed with my ill-treatment by blevins, which I was, and total frustration that I had no recourse via the law because I could "blow" at the least slight. I have to a great degree put the 'ptsd' back in its box, but the damage to what was an already slowly slipping brain that I had accepted, it took a big hit damage wise. I no longer check e'mail. 315-353-5016 day or night. Thankyou!.
