I was driving on highway 26 west bound in oregon just outside of portland. My car has ecodiesel engine in it. I usually buy gas when it is about a quarter tank of fuel. I had about quarter tank of fuel and about 150 miles range left. I was on the left lane and traveling at about 60 mph. All the sudden my engine stopped instantly on the left lane of highway 26. All the cars behind me hit the brakes not to rear end me. My car's engine stopped and slowed down so quickly. It was scary. I tried to pull over to the right side of the highway. Once the car was parked, it said that battery saving mode. It would crank up but not start the engine. I called a mobile mechanic over. He checked the battery and alternator and said the battery is strong and no blown fuses whatsoever. He then went under the car and listen the fuel pump and said that it sounds very bad. He had beliefs that I had problems with my fuel system, maybe a broken fuel pump. He read the codes out of car computer and they all were related to the fuel systems. I started doing some online research and found out that Jeep Grand Cherokees has a faulty design of fuel tanks and if the fuel goes below the quarter tank level. Then pump does not work properly. Upon reading this, I called a friend who brought me 5 gallons of diesel and we put the diesel inside the tank and the car started immediately. I drove it to a near by gas station and filed up the tank full. I think this car has some sort of faulty design of fuel pump. It will cause a fatal accident if it does not get corrected by the manufacturer as soon as possible. When the engine stopped suddenly, the car actually swerved around little bit. This incident could have ended fatally if I was not quick enough. I am writing this to let you gusy know about this flaw about Grand Cherokee ecodiesels 3. 0 engines.
Pulling a small horse trailer and suddenly engine starts to knock and a couple minutes later overheats. Stopped vehicle immediately and had vehicle towed to Jeep dealer as parts of engine are under warranty due to other recalls. Jeep dealer says engine needs to be replaced. This is an ecodiesel engine.
I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3. 0l ecodiesel engine that had the approved Jeep v08 recalled installed. Since having a certified technician install the v08 emissions recall, my vehicle has been back to the dealer repeatedly to have the following parts replaced: 14 total fuel injectors, fuel lines (high and low pressure) from tank to engine replaced twice, fuel tank cleaned, def injector replaced, numerous sensors and the fuel pump replaced. Each "fix" works for anywhere from 1 - 6 weeks before a light comes on again and the vehicle needs to be taken back to the dealer. Each of these repairs has included additional charges that were required to be paid out of pocket. Prior to the v08 emissions recall, I drove the vehicle over 100,000 miles without an issue. Since the recall, driving habits have not changed, but miles per gallon have dropped 2-3 mpg. The dealer and Jeep have also indicated that since the recall was installed, the vehicle must be driven differently compared to prior to the recall. According to the v08 recall notice, Jeep promised the recall would not affect the way the vehicles drives and also would not affect mileage, which has been proven false.
While in motion, on my way work, my 2014 Grand Cherokee summit with 3. 0 l turbo diesel engine, 220 amp alternator and 49000 miles experienced a loss of power steering, battery light came on, voltmeter showed no charging of battery. My electronic indicator system stated the vehicle went into battery saver mode with a loss of abs, heating and ventilation, air suspension system, all safety enhancements such as park sense, no electronic transmission system changes and check engine light came on. There was a recall on gasoline engine 2014 Grand Cherokees along with others (Chrysler recall t36) and I have seen another complaint similar to mine sharing the same engine on this sight. I do believe this is was caused by catastrophic alternator failure. A new battery was installed and the battery light is still on and still in battery saver mode( an indicator also of no charging) and volmeter indicates no charging. I will be replacing the alternator tomorrow.
Failure of a heater hose while driving caused excessive overheating which led to engine failure. Dealer says that my extended warranty does not cover hoses therefore the cost of replacing the diesel engine is my responsibility. The cost is nearly $17,000. I would like an investigation into why the hose failed. Was it due to damage caused during previous engine work?.
On separate occasions vehicle had issue shifting from 1st to 2nd gear lurching forward even when at a stop and my foot was on the break. The vehicle also had three issues with the def sensors which were worked on or replaced three separate times. Since the last fixed was just done on or approximately around February 1st , I will be waiting to see if the issue continues. The latest issue is has something to do with the catalyst. It's having an issue sensing that the vehicle is creating enough heat to burn off by product. It is slated to be replaced within two weeks. I have been notifying Jeep about all of these problems. I have a case manager working on the problems. I have read several sites that show there is an issue with an exposed def sensor which Jeep is not acknowledging. It is the new eco-diesel engine.
