Vehicle engine light came on - rear windshield wiper started even though switch was off, power steering failed and engine shutoff while driving on city street, horn beeping intermittently whether driving or not. Several messages displayed for about 2 seconds -ecm lost communication and other msgs I couldn't get because they only flashed on the screen. Keyfob battery low even though I just put in a new battery.
Call stalled due to the failure of the alternator, which was subject to recall. The dealership refused to schedule an appointment, so I just dropped my car off at the dealership per Chrysler corp. The dealership replaced the defective alternator and found that the battery needed to be replaced at a charge of 350 dollars. I informed the dealership that the message center on the car indicated that the car was entering "batter saver mode" as it shutdown. The manual for the vehicle indicates that the vehicle enters this mode when the battery is not being charged, the primary function of the alternator. I requested that the dealership replace the battery as its depletion was due to a faulty alternator, they declined. They stated that although the alternator was faulty it did not do any damage to the battery.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut off, the steering wheel seized, and the power steering warning indicator failed to illuminate. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
While driving battery low voltage alarm occurred. Shortly after, electrical systems began to shut down, lost power steering, then engine shutdown. I was able to get to shoulder of a major highway. Vehicle had no power :all electrical indicators, displays, lights, including shifter were off and could not be turned on.
While vehicle was in motion on the highway the engine shut off. My wife was driving it with our 4 year old daughter in the backseat. At that time the vehicle lost power steering. She called me in a panic. I called the Jeep dealer who came and towed the vehicle in to the service department. The same thing happened while the Jeep was in the shop at California superstores in valencia, CA. They called me several times to come and pick the car up because they could not figure out what happened, but that there was not a "fix" for it. Due to concerns for my familys safety I refused to pick the car up and called Chrysler who told me not to pick the car up, that it was dangeous to drive it. The next weeki was again told to come and pick the car up, this time by both the dealer at California superstores, valencia, CA and by the corporate people at Chrysler, and told there was no fix for the problem. The car just randomly shuts off while driving it. I opened a claim withchrysler corp. About the car stalling out but have not heard back about any fix or recall. The car is unsafe to drive and I am not receiving any help from the dealer or Chrysler corp. I paid almost $38,000 for the car and do not even want to drive it or have my family in it due to the possibility that it could stall again (it has happened several times), the steering go out, and cause an accident harming us or other drivers on the roadways.
After entering the freeway, the car autonomously shifted itself into neutral and the engine shut off. This incident has repeated itself dozens of times in various driving situations since June of last year (2014), just after beginning my lease. Sometimes, as in this instance, I was able to push the start button and the engine turned back on, even while rolling in neutral at speed. In most instances, the condition happens as slower speeds (<30mph) and I am unable to restart until coast off the roadway, come to a complete stop, depress the brake, shift from neutral into park, and then restart. When this happens in traffic I am helpless as I attempt to coast to safety as speeding cars race around me on both sides. I have brought the car to the dealership(s) at least a half-dozen times. On the very first visit, I saw that the computer diagnostic readout said, "improbable torque conversion". Since that first time, I have not seen readouts and they've not been shared. Two different dealerships have test-driven the vehicle and claim that they are unable to recreate the malfunction. Well, neither am I. It happens randomly and I am unable to deliberately cause it. Nonetheless, it happens. A chief concern of mine is the seeming limitation of the service technicians. Unless the computer identifies a problem, they seem to be satisfied that there is no problem; they have apparently no ability to consider any other form of diagnostic curiosity. They claim that they've searched and find no other instances of this condition. Yet, a cursory google search reveals thousands of similar instances with this make and model. At this point, I only drive the car when there are no other practical options. I do not take my family or passengers in the car. I'm renting cars or ubering more often. I have reached out to Chrysler and have filed an issue. No response yet. Critical safety issue!.
I was driving on the highway where I spend most of my time while in my vehicle putting over 30k miles on my car in one year to get back and forth to work and while jumping on a major route 101a in nh where cars drive very fast my engine shuts down and I can not do anything but put on my hazard lights and hope the cars passing at 65mph dont hit me. This happened at least 3 - 5 times afterward and even a couple of times after having the dealer looking into the vehicle and I have been told it was a software update but they are unable to provide me with the details of what the software update is and what it resolves. I have since had the issue and brought it in for service numerous times and I told the same thing over and over and they keep reinstalling my software and tell me that it's all set and I am no longer satisfied nor feel safe in my vehicle that I put a lot of highway miles to get back and forth to work. Please help since nobody is able to help me and since I put on so many miles I am unable to be covered by the lemon law within a short period of owning the vehicle and its very frustrating.
