36 Blower problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/04/2008

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 35,000 miles. The heating system has recently stopped working. I checked this problem on the internet and it seems that many 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees have this problem. It appears to be quite costly to repair. It obviously affects visibility on the windshield.

40 Blower problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower my heater is blowing cold air on driver's side/passenger takes a long time to blow heat. Ac (air conditioning is also failing) receiving these codes: 52. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ai (recirc) door travel too large 54. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Left temperature door travel too large the problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is a design problem. The system uses a stepper motor that detects the extents of movement by hitting a resistance point at the open and close point. The system is designed with a small plastic pin on the door connection pin that breaks over time. When the pin breaks, the resistance point occurs when the door hits the extents of the open and close position. The door is not designed to handle this force and eventually the door itself actually breaks. Please note we are currently in -3 celsius weather in mississauga, ontario, canada. I will be taking my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for warranty service. If this is not covered under warranty I am looking at a bill to fix between $300-$1500 canadian. After going to dealership with warranty claim will call 1-800# and provide details from dealership visit. This can be considered a safety defect since could affect defrosting of windshield while driving. Also very uncomfortable to drive with no heat (in winter) and no ac (in summer) please respond to my complaint ASAP. Thank you I have read several posts on the internet that Jeep from 1998-2004 all have the same problem. Update: I have received service for Jeep on January 21, 2008 I have put in a complaint on Jan. 21/08 reference # 17140103 issue was blend door fault. The blender door on left side was melted. Parts replaced: 05012743 housing 24-028-025 05134353 housing 24-028-025 total parts and labor $473. 27 please followup with Chrysler why this is a not a recall. 41 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/21/2008

Cold air blowing from passenger side vents and windshield defroster regardless of control or temp settings. Driver side temp adjustments work properly, but passenger side and windshield defroster controls do not provide any heat. Windshield does not defrost, as temp mix is not functioning for passenger vents or for windshield defroster. Problem has not been resolved.

45 Blower problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/30/2007

The blender doors on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee's ventilation system failed without warning. I can only get air flow from the windshield defroster vent. This makes if difficult to warm up the vehicle in the winter. According to my research on the web, this type of failure is ridiculously common on this Jeep model. I have scheduled an appointment to get the problem fixed, but my dealer has already warned me that the repair costs will be at least $500 or more. The dealer also stated that they had already performed the same repair on 2 other Jeeps this winter. Once repaired, there is no guarantee that it won't happen again. Chrysler should recall the affected vehicles and come up with a solution to the problem.

46 Blower problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/27/2007

The vehicle does not blow hot air out the passenger side only cold. The blend doors are broken. Hard to defrost a windshield with no heat, hard to see out the windshield.

47 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/26/2007

Heat stopped working on the passenger side of my vehicle. Now there seems to be little to no heat on the driver's side. I was told that this has been an issue with the Jeep Grand Cherokee line, and yet nothing is done about it. Of course this always seems to happen after the warranty has expired. I have yet to pursue repairs as this will cost me almost $500.

48 Blower problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/24/2007

Cold air started to come out of heater vents on driver's side even though heater was set on heat. This happened on a journey in a ice storm. Wind shield could not be cleared and a dangerous level of visibility caused me to stop driving. I was told be a mechanic that the heater blend doors had failed (broken) and that this is a very common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 02-04 model year. This is potentially a disastrous safety issue that Chrysler corporation are fully aware of. A dealer repair is quoted at over $1400!.

49 Blower problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

Defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower- blows cold air from passenger side of vehicle. I have the dual zone automatic heating unit in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. They had to replace the whole unit and it was not covered under the extended warranty I purchased for the vehicle.

50 Blower problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee= my vehicle should have been covered under the lemon laws of the us. Not covered in recall of a later year - blend doors broke- had to replace all three motors and doors - left turn signal does not function consistently - door lock system is failing: driver's door has quit locking; has to be done manually; back door behind the driver makes a squawking noise when you lock the doors, tailgate is not locking; alarm will go off if you open the door, but it is not locked. _constant small coolant leak.

Visibility:deroster/defogger system:windshield:blower factory defect in the blend door. No heat coming out on the passenger side, only cold air. Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.

57 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2007

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with 44,500 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. In addition to the fogging there is a leak of antifreeze, hazardous material, coming into the vehicle driver and passenger areas, due to defective heater core. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary and a new heater core at a cost of approximately $1,700 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds/overlands with dual zone ventilation systems.

58 Blower problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. Blend door failure.

59 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

When heat is on, cold air blows from the passenger side. I believe the passenger side blend door is broken. I believe this is a factory/design problem and it affects the defogger and visibility. Estimates over $1,000 to repair.

60 Blower problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Dual side heating and air is not working properly on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Passenger side is ice cold constantly, while my driver's side is working properly for now, but for how much longer? after a lot of reading of other articles, there should most absolutely be a recall, especially if I have to pay that kind of money to get it fixed, then I should be reimbursed.

61 Blower problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Heater started blowing cold air on drivers side. Blend door broke and fell down inside the dash. I paid $130 for "heatertreater" fix and repaired the broken doors by converting the dual controls to single drivers side control only.

62 Blower problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/27/2007

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the passenger side heater output went to 'full cold'. Took to dealer and was told 'hvac door replacement' was necessary at about $1200. 00 cost to me. Apparently a pin had broken off where the actuator attaches to the heater door. Entire dash assembly had to be removed, also air conditioner gas had to removed and replaced.

The passenger side of my Jeep was blowing cold air. I took my Jeep to the dealer and was told that the temp door and fresh air doors were broken. He also stated that this was a common problem with my Jeep. Also, the drivers side heated seat was very hot when it was on the low setting. They found that the heater grid had a short in the circuit. 66 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/23/2007

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and always heard noises from the vent since I bought the Jeep, got it checked out when it was under warranty and they did something to the actuator. A little over a year ago I had coolant leaking into my car on the passenger side, had to get a new heater core ($800) then when they finished no heat was coming out, it was the blend door so they had to redo all the work in getting in there ($350 after I complained), 3 months ago, same problem heater core leak ($920), now 3 months after that I have no heat, took it in last week, blend door problem and $730. I have no heat in my Jeep!! I cannot believe they do not have a recall for this problem with so many people having the same issue and I have had it twice! something should be done.

68 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/21/2007

Blend door failure in the hvac system of my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Failure causes hvac system to blow cold air only. This could be catastrophic as I live in colorado and need heat in the winter for visibility out the windshield.

69 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed that the heating and cooling system did not work. She called the local dealer and they instructed her to bring the vehicle in for inspection. While driving at an unknown speed to the dealer, she noticed freon rising from the instrument panel. As a result, other components of the engine and engine cooling system began to fail. The air conditioning and heater no longer worked. The dealer stated that not only had her blower motor and resister failed, but the heater core, evaporator core, actuator, and blend door (which no longer provided heat on the driver side of the vehicle) were corroded as well. The dealer further stated that the freon from the instrument panel originated from the evaporator core, indicating the presence of ethanol (toxic gas). The manufacturer has not offered any assistance and stated that the failures were due to lack of maintenance. Currently, the estimated cost that the contact has spent on repairs is $2,000. The vehicle is at the dealer and has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 91,000 and current mileage was 91,350.

70 Blower problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
