The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the push button start hesitated at times. After a second attempt, the vehicle was able to start, but the failure progressed without warning. The contact also stated that there was excessive fog and that the vent controls were not functioning properly. The failure was reported to the dealer and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The dealer indicated that they performed the repairs for NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v391000 (electrical system) and 14v634000 (electrical system), but provided no confirmation. The dealer only stated that these two of the four recalls were performed and that they did not know when the other two recalls would be performed. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic) and 15v115000 (electrical system) and the dealer did not give a specific date for when the parts would become available. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for the two recall repairs. The failure mileage was not available.

Passenger side warm air flow from heater stopped. Only cold air blows out. Driver side is operating fine. Evidently the air blend door has failed. This appears to be a chronic problem with this Jeep vintage. I do not understand why a recall has never been issued for this common design failure. The fix is very expensive and involves removing the whole dash. However, mopar even makes a repair kit for this issue kit #k6855685ab, that does not involve removing the dash. Jeep should be forced to recall these vehicles and correct their design flaw.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the wiring for the air conditioning unit and the heater coil resistor overheated and burned. There was a constant smell of burning heat through the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised that there were no recalls and the resistor and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 184,893.

Vehicle's heating system is defective. . . Heat only comes out on passenger side and not driver's side, a internal defect in heating mechanics (door's that control heat ) in researching online appears that this is a common issue with Jeep owners in this year range and should be a recall that the manufacture is responsible for. Please advise. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My ac system is faulty. Hot and cold air blows at the same time. Windows constantly fog up and I can't see. Getting blend door codes on the climate control reader.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving 40 mph when the heater failed. The vehicle was inspected and it was discovered that the heater control modulator was melted. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed as needing a replacement box. The vehicle was repaired but the failure was beginning to recur. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
The in-dash heater/ac blend door is malfunctioning causing air flow not to be properly diverted between lower dash vents, dashboard vents and defroster vents. This is creating an unsafe condition whereby the windshield will not clear in rainstorms and will not stay defrosted in winter driving. A search on the internet and along with discussions with a local dealer working with Jeeps for many years has led me to understand that this is a long-known and very common defect with Jeep Grand Cherokees. Prices to replace this blend door have ranged from $1000 to $1500 due to the fact that this is a very labor intensive replacement. I contact Chrysler assistance and they suggested that I contact you to identify this safety concern so that perhaps a technical service bulletin (TSB) could be issued and Chrysler would address the defective blend door for consumers experiencing this safety issue.

Jeep's climate control is not allowing permanent engagement of recirculation option which leads to allergens and pollutions from outside get inside of the vehicle without driver realizing it. Few times I was, literally, inches away from rear ending vehicles in front of me. When I'm going 60-65 mph on a highway and climate control opens intake for outside air, with my eyes becoming watery from allergy, I had to find that recirculation button to reengage it. It happens exactly every 5 minutes. When I brought vehicle to Jeep's dealer they told me that it's the way system built and there can be two ways to eliminated the hazard: complete shut down of intake or climate control program update. I called Jeep's help line and explained the problem to their representative providing suggestions stated above. After that I was given 'great' explanation: climate control acts this way because it was done by design !? based on that they refused to do anything to fix it. I have two other vehicles (Honda and Suzuki) and those cars don't have problem like Jeep has. This shows that all Jeep needs to do is issue software patch for their climate control program to take care of this issue.

The defrost only works 50% of the time. Did not work while driving down the highway at 65mph. This was extremely dangerous as I could not see through the windshield. The next day was working fine and a week later I had the same issue. I had the heater core replaced and the issue is still happening.
Poor design and cheap plastic parts led to premature failure of the heater/ac blend doors that control the air flow of the heater and air conditioning system. This problem has existed on the 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Why didn't Chrysler repair the defect instead of waiting 6 years? the dealer charges $ 1300. 00 to make this repair. The actual part is about $30. 00. Chrysler should be held accountable for this.
We have owned our 1999 Grand Cherokee since 1999 - its been a great car but every single issue listed on this website has befallen us. Currently @ 149k miles we have no heat on the driver side due to blend door assembly, the airbag light goes off all the time and there is no heat in the drivers side seat. I am shocked that so many people have the exact same issues and that to me says there is truly something wrong. We also took part in a class action suit that covered some of the expenses we had in continually replacing the brakes - especially the rotors which warp with out notice and can do that if you just step on the brakes to hard! even if you have just had them replaced. Cheap parts? I am a die hard Jeep owner but after reading all of these postings I am wondering if my alliance should be elsewhere?.

The contact owns a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the blower doors for the air and heating vents were fractured and caused a failure with the air conditioning and heated. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that a remedy was not available for the type of failure. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 67,000.
The 99-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee has major defects in the heating/ac system and Chrysler is making customers pay for there defect.
The passenger side heater does not blow hot air. It will not defrost the windshield on the passenger side and therefore causes a safety hazard by limiting sight of the driver.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system. Windshield blower. Cold air out the passenger side and visibility is decreased. I have had this fixed once when I bought the Jeep 6 years ago.
I recently purchased this vehicle and the drivers side has no heat, due to the blend door malfunctioning.
The recirculation gear broke, causing the air conditioning system to never switch into recirculation mode. It is an ongoing problem with many years of these vehicles. I have personally replaced it once, but it has broken again. I do have a broken half of the gear in my possession.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo: heater/defroster intermittently blows cold air while driving. While driving in the winter with heat and/or defrost on and temp control turned to warm/hot, suddenly there is cold air only. In rain/snow windshield will frost over making it impossible to see. This defect may only last a few minutes, maybe longer. If I stop the engine for a minute or two, and don't touch the heater controls, restart the car, there is heat again to defrost the glass. This however may only last a few minutes or maybe an hour. If the engine is stopped again and restarted, there is heat again. This is extremely dangerous as a cold defroster in a snowstorm causes ice buildup inside the car. I have seen many heat/defrost problems with this generation of gc's on the internet. I have to question why Chrysler has not issued a recall for such a danger to myself and others.
No defrost or heat on passenger side of vehicle, cannot see thru passenger side of windsheild when iced or foggged up.
My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 140,000 miles has had air conditioning problems where it doesn't blow out cold air, for the last 3 years. I didn't care much about it and didn't plan to fix it until I noticed that the heating system was doing the same thing. The middle vents blow out cold air and the passenger side vents blow normal hot air. I live in a state where it gets brutally cold out in the winter time and obviously this needs to be fixed for comfort and also for defrost. Come to find out that the repair is very costly $8-1800. And the most horrifying of all is that after the problem is corrected, it will only happen again and you will be forced to pay to fix it all over again because of the parts Chrysler uses. I can not afford to fix this problem over and over again. This car dealer is well aware of this problem and is ignoring all complaints and forcing consumers to pay for the problem, when it is just going to break again. This is almost criminal!.
The hvac system of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (dual climate zone) fails after a short period of time prompting expensive repairs. The hvac system will blow ambient outside air on one half of the car. If it's hot outside, hot air, not ac, will blow on the passenger side. Cold air in the winter.
I have been having troubles with the blender doors closing all the time on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have had the SUV for not even 3 years and the doors have closed 4 times already. 2 months ago they closed and it cost $1,200 to fix it, now 2 months later the doors closed again today 5/27/10. This is getting out of hand. These blender doors have a defect and Chrysler is not doing anything about it.
Dual control a/c heater unit on the Jeep Grand Cherokee limited stop working.
The heater failed in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is apparently a very common problem in this model. Previously the seat heaters overheated and the power steering hose failed.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the heater ducts would not function correctly due to leakage in the evaporator coil. The heater core was replaced by the dealer. After the repair, moist air emitted throughout the vents causing the windows to become foggy. The contact had concern with the health and safety hazards regarding the air quality circulated throughout the vents. The failure mileage was 65,351.
2004 Jeep cherokee blend doors. I have to use a towel while driving to wipe the interior windshield since my defroster has gone bad. Why does Chrysler not cover this as I consider that to be a major safety issue.
Have just been advised that a motor which operates some type of door to release heat and air in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee needs to be replaced. It appears that no replacement is available and Jeep has a 1200 part backlog with no plans in the works to even begin production of this part for replacement. While one can conceivably do without heat or air conditioning, this is a definite safety issue as having a working defroster in the middle of winter is a necessity.

I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the blend doors and heat do not work. I cannot believe how many people have this issue and how poor this product it. We must have some relieve for this issue.
Intermittent heat and defrost it finally went out took it to repair shop the pigtail was melted and had to be replaced blow motor works but the dampener doors won't open to let heat or defrost work. Jeep says it is a common problem with the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition but they wont fix it because they say it is not a safety issue. If you cant see out of your windows you cant see to drive and you scrape the ice off the inside of the windows and they ice back up.
Jeep 2003 Grand Cherokee hvac unit. Automatic temperature control unit. No heat or ac on passenger side. First time last summer for two days, then it came back. Last week, no heat on passenger side. On 12/19/09 went to Jeep dealership, charged $ 99. 00 for diagnostic and told is a problem with the blend doors; price to fix $ 1,400- 2,100 . Searched the internet about it and found a Chrysler Jeep service bulletin # 24-001-04 dated January 20, 2004 concerning the same doors. In addition there are hundreds of Jeep drivers complaining about the same problem in several forums. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected and the heater was fine. Turned the vehicle off, turned back on ten minutes later and again no heat on passenger side.
Due to poor manufacturing and low quality parts, 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees have been subject to breakage of interior parts controlling the heating and a/c systems, including but not limited to the blend doors and actuator. This system breakdown can occur suddenly, and can affect both the a/c and heating systems. When this occurred to my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. It was in the dead of winter (Dec 2009) and the weather had been extremely cold. I was unable to properly defrost my windows, causing extreme difficulty in seeing out of my windshield and right side mirror. Because of this I was often having to roll down my windows--even if it was snowing--in order to drive safely to school and work. In March I took my car to a local Jeep dealership to get more information on this issue and I was told by one of the service advisor that this is a known problem in many Jeeps, and is seen very frequently. Due to the problem being in the dash of the vehicle, the repair quote is over $1,300. 00, and is not covered by my pre-owned vehicle protection plan with western general. Daimler-Chrysler has received thousands of complaints about this issue but refuses to recall a warranty or assist Jeep owners in repairing broken parts. I am not comfortable paying $1,300 and being penalized for daimler-Chrysler's mistake when, if repaired with the same parts, I could be facing this same issue again very soon!.
I am paying for a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased used in 12-06. I have had a problem with the heater 6 months after I purchased it used, which the dealer would not repair. I called Chrysler and no one returned my call until this month. I received a recall about the fan blades and took it into the shop. Prior to the shop appointment the check engine light came on, I asked the service tech to check why the heater was not working and why the check engine light was on. He called me to tell me that the recall part was on back order and that the blend motor and doors on the heater were broken and that the leak detection pump had gone out, which would prevent me from getting it inspected. He also told me that the heater plugs were melted and it needed a wiring harness replacement. The dash gets very hot which has melted the plugs but no heat is blowing into the vehicle. This could cause a fire inside the vehicle. Also the leak detection pump is an emissions problem and per federallaw has to be operating in order to pass inspection. I spoke with Chrysler and asked them to repair the vehicle and they laughed at me, telling me this vehicle had been out of warranty for 4. 5 years. (it was out when I purchased it. )and if it were still under warranty then they would fix it. I also asked why if the recall had been out since 2006 then why was I just now getting it, and the part was on back order which tells me that I have been driving an unsafe vehicle. He also told me that the heater being broken was not a safety issue, it is due to not having heat to defrost windows and plugs melting could cause a fire. I have checked the web and there are so many web sites that talk about these problems with the Jeeps that go back to 1998- 2005. Please help me I am out of work due the medical problems and I have a very tight budget. I have contacted the n. C. Attorney generals office, consumer affairs, Chrysler, nat. Assoc. Consumer affairs. At this point nothing has been done. -sharon.
