I bought my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 60,000 miles on it in phoenix it was hot and I did not check the heater. The next night I drove it back to flagstaff and the temperature dropped to 25 degrees. I was not expecting to be in a vehicle without heat and was very cold and could not feel my feet by the time I got to my house. I have had frostbite and am very susceptible to the cold. I feel that while heat may not be as important as brakes or other major safety features it is still important.

Blend door malfunction- unable to regulate temperatures. Extremely costly fix.
When I turned on the heat one fall day I got hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side. It doesn't matter whether I select defrost, floor, or mid-level vents. Also I had the temperature settings on high. I have not repaired this yet, it is a safety issue due to difficulty defrosting the windshield. The dealership said it will be very costly. It is not intermittent because it is always failed.

The blend doors on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited have broken giving me no heat during the winter. I cannot afford to fix the problem as I do not have $1200. 00 for fix it. This is a travesty and an indication of just why the american big three are in so much trouble. This vehicle is the worst vehicle that I have personally ever owned.
1. My air conditioner started acting up and not blowing the correct hear/air. 2. The blend doors are broken on my Grand Cherokee
3. Nothing yet, its a $1200 fix.

The heating/cooling system on my 2003 Grand Cherokee is an insult to the other qualities of this vehicle! the internal doors that direct air through the system is extremely cheaply made. Mostly plastic-a very poor grade! the dealer says it will cost close to a $1000 to repair and he wouldn't guarantee it would not happen again. I think Chrysler should be responsible for something this poorly made. It is no wonder they are in trouble and the government is giving them billions of dollars to make more inferior Jeeps! I have not had the repairs made,I just don't have the money. So my wife has to ride to work in a luxury vehicle with no heater! there is no doubt this should be a recall!!!!! updated 10/23/09.

I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and though the blower motor works the dual heater/ blend doors stopped working. It was a cool night in michigan and the windshield quickly fogged up with no luck of clearing up because of the malfunction. I immediately rolled the window down and had to drive home with my head sticking out of the window to see. Also the next morning on a sunny day the same event happened with the windows fogged and sun directly shining on me I could not even see one thing. A person could wipe the inside of the windows off with little improvement of visibility. I had to immediately pull the vehicle over for fear of hitting someone or another car discontinued driving it. This is such a dangerous failure. I discussed it with an automotive engineer and was told it is defective part in engineering by Chrysler. Because of the safety issue here should not this be recalled! even though I replied no to your 4 questions on the right the reality is a yes could be applied to 3 of the 4 if I continued to drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee without a doubt. I recognized immediately the danger of this situation to myself and others on the road and pulled over without hesitation.
I purchased a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a few weeks later I got up in the morning and it was cold so I turned on my heater. Unfortunately I got no heat. It turns out that the blend doors on my vehicle were broken. After much research, I found out that this is one of the absolute most common problems with the vehicle. Now if it were just a comfort issue, I could learn to live with it, but the fact of the matter is that the defrosters run through the heater core. Therefore is the blend doors are broken, you have no way to clear your windshield. Since I live in utah, this is a very important feature to have. Although this is one of the most common problems with these vehicles, there was never a recall made. Thousands of people will end up having to pay a dealership $1500 to fix their defective parts.
We own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. It just started blowing cold air only out of the drivers side vents and hot air out of the passengers side vents. We understand it is a blend door malfunction which is widespread among 1998-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. We called our local Jeep dealer and they estimated it would cost between $800 and $2000 to fix as they would have to pull the entire dash out of the car. This is simply unacceptable for an owner to have to pay all of this money to repair a manufacturing deficit in the original design. About every Jeep owner we know has faced this problem. We feel you should demand that Jeep recalls all of the Jeeps and fix them at their expense.

Blend door broken on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
My 2003 Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee blows only cold air on passenger side. I was told that I needed heater case repairs for around &1000. 00. This is nuts as Jeep is aware of this on going problem and should issue a recall. They did issue an informational TSB (#24-001-04) in January of 2004 for stronger parts concerning this very problem. Lets try for a recall for all the unlucky people with this problem.
3rd failure of climate control system inside vehicle controlling a/c, heat, vents, etc. Have paid a total of $3119 to have it repaired with new oem Chrysler replacement parts by certified mechanics. The same failure continues to occur where the climate control "blend doors" break in their plastic housing causing the doors to move independent of the computer control signals. In the winter, cold air will blow regardless of setting, and in the summer hot air blows - also regardless of setting. This latest failure occurred outside of the warranty. It was already fixed once within warranty period before 2 subsequent failures. Dealer reps informed me that 80+% of vehicles with dual climate control option have this problem. I have owned a 2000 and 2005 Grand Cherokees and have also experienced the same issue with both vehicles.
Heating system in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed. I don't have defrost, heat. Have heard of numerous complaints from other cherokee owners with the same problem.

The heating/cooling system on my 2003 Grand Cherokee overland is an insult to the other qualities of this vehicle! the internal doors that direct air through the system is extremely cheaply made. Mostly plastic-a very poor grade! the dealer says it will cost close to a $1000 to repair and he wouldn't guarantee it would not happen again. The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Whenever the contact activated the heating unit mode selector, the driver's side heater and defroster failed to operate. The failures occurred without warning. The authorized dealer was notified and stated that the failure was related to the blend doors located in the heating unit. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 46,000.
The door blend and actuators have failed on my Jeep. Middle of winter and my passenger has to sit in a vehicle with cold air blowing on them.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - blend door failure rendering a/c and heat useless in vehicle. Total failure of vehicle a/c and heat system due to broken blend doors to repair would be $1500 - nothing done.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Passenger side vents blow extremely cold air, even with the heat turned on. With negative temperatures this past week, this makes driving the vehicle nearly impossible. This is a widespread issue that is a known vehicle flaw and extremely costly to fix. This isn't about comfort, but about safety in winter weather!!!.
The dual climate control has been not functional due to the fact that my blend door actuator is stock on vent. This has caused me great discomfort and severe safety issues because I can not circulate any warm air in my car or defrost. I sincerely hope Jeep does a recall, not only to keep valued customers, but to prevent any serious accidents due to the fact that the defrost is completely disfunctional.
Loss of any and all heat. Started with the failure of the blend door actuator, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. Blow cold air when setting is set at a high temperature. Then the recirculator door that fell off the small hinge and dropped on top of the blower disrupting the flow of any air though the heating system. Then the blower itself failed resulting in no air, hot or cold, being produced. Currently no heat or defrost is being produced resulting in limited visibility while driving and no heat when outside temperature today is at 1 degree above zero and over a foot of snow.
Also having problem with blend door. When using the heater, all of the sudden cold air would start blowing from vents. After a few minutes system would switch back to blowing warm air. Happens repeatedly.
At 39,000 miles blend doors on air and heating not working properly. One side blows cold and other blow hot. Three repairs done by dealer and still have the problem.
The heater blend doors on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee do not work. I do not have heat on this vehicle. Cost to repair at dealer $3000. This part breaks on all Jeep vehicles. Should force dealer to repair this small plastic part. It is unsafe to drive in winter time with no heat in vehicle.
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has had a blend door failer due to poor design. My understanding is this is a common problem with the heating system.
Heat and a/c blend doors on the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed due to normal wear and tear. These doors should have lasted at least 20 to 30 years. They lasted 7. A costly repair was necessary not to mention loss of use. The heat and a/c unit needed to be removed and the doors replaced.
My heat does not work. I bought the Jeep and the heat worked. It first blew cold on passenger side at the end of last winter. This winter, no heat works and does blow cold air still. Blend doors are broke and have been problems for all Jeep Grand Cherokees. Daimler should pay for faulty part!.
My 2002 grand Jeep cherokee's heat stopped working and I was told that the actuator doors were gone. This was determined by the dealer. Now my heated seats have stopped working. The dealership gave me an estimate of about 1300. 00 dollars to replace the doors.
Cold air is blowing from the vents uncontrollably.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - dual control heater blend door malfunctions. No heat on the passenger side.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee heater quit working and makes it dangerous to drive in cold weather because you can not keep windows defrosted. It is a known problem with this vehicle.
Heat and air conditioning died in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland, it only has 60,000 miles on it and I did some searching online and this is a common problem for the 99-04 Grand Cherokees. I live in a cold weather region and cannot defrost my windshield making it quite dangerous. It will cost $1,200 to fix it and I cannot afford to pay that. Chrysler is saying it is my responsibility to fix. But the problem lies with the blender actuator doors being too cheap when built.
Jeep Grand Cherokee hvac blend door malfunction will not allow proper vision through windshield due to defroster not working properly.
Blend doors failed on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cannot get heat, defrost windows, etc. This happen to our Jeep at 80,000 miles, but I have heard from many Jeep owners with the same problem, some happening as soon as 40,000 miles. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and is a safety issue if one cannot properly defrost windows. Cost is $1,200 to repair per dealership.
No heat in this very cold weather. After many mechanics I went too. Find out that it will cost me fortune. And it common problem with Jeep cherokee. And it should be recall. For blend doors. Blend doors. Please help.
