I have owned my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo for 10 years. I purchased the car new from liberty auto city in libertyville, IL. At 80,000 miles, I was leaving for school when I noticed my driver side window had fallen into the door. When I tried to use the switch to raise the window, it did not work. I took this car to the dealership, they knew right away that I had a problem with the window regulator, and they fixed it to the tune of $400. The dealership knew what it was because they have fixed so many, and the novice internet surfer would be able to search out this problem and find a myriad of complaints from Grand Cherokee and liberty owners alike. I understand a class action lawsuit was filed in California by Jeep liberty drivers, and Jeep has since extended the warranty on liberty windows. Jeep reimbursed me $300 of the $400 dollars for this first incident. Now, last Sunday, I was leaving my home to work the night shift at the hospital, and I noticed the passenger window was rolled all the way down - sure enough, the same thing happened to the other window. I drove to work in a snow storm with the passenger window rolled down. Now Jeep will not reimburse me for the regulator, which again cost $400 to replace. Again, my new Jeep dealership, fletcher auto in columbia, missouri, knew exactly what the problem was because they also have seen it often with vehicles from this time period. I urge you to act to create a recall for this known defective part that has caused significant trouble and expense. I was not in danger, but I had to be at work to cover my shift, so I drove in the storm and had to leave my car in an open air unguarded parking garage with the window down all night. I believe Jeep should be held accountable for this. I apologize for not providing my VIN#, I am actually working in the hospital right now for another shift.

Interior door handles are defective. The plastic surrounding the interior door handles has become brittle and broken allowing pieces to fall inside the door. This breakage has rendered the door handles inoperative and prevents the door from being opened from the inside. In the event of an accident the occupants of the vehicle would be trapped inside, especially if the power windows also became inoperative.

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. . My driver side window panel for the passenger window goes down but not up and stops mid way and goes back down. I just had my starter replace due to corrosion of the connectors, and dealer would not replace connectors, just brushed off and stated I need new starter. . . .

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep cherokee. The contact stated that the window cable snapped causing the window to fall down and it could not be closed. The dealer repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified and the part was mailed to them. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 76,000. The VIN was unavailable.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer states problem with front window regulators the front window regulators were replaced by an authorized Jeep repair facility three times in the past 14 months. The consumer stated based on owner reports, the plastic piece on the window lift mechanism that held the cable appeared to be at least part of the problem.
After being parked the Jeep would not start, code displayed in the dash stated transmission over temp, after sitting for about 30 more minutes the Jeep started - drove home and it would not start again - took it to a garage and they could not get the problem to replicate after having it for a week. July 5, 2011 - Jeep would not start again, transmission over temp code, still intermittent, after 2 weeks the garage replaced the transmission control module, August 6, 2012 - transmission over temp error code, this time it will not start after any pause in driving, had it towed to the dealer and they are saying its the starter (Jeep now has about 65,000 miles on it) - also had to replace the right front speed sensor (it is bad and causing the traction control system not to function properly). [additional notes: had to replace the esm at 28596 miles, Jeep loss of engine power and all lights lit up on gear shifter, at 27170 miles had to replace both front window regulators].
The window regulator keeps failing in the rear passenger window. It can be rolled down but won't go back up. The most recent time, a 6 year old was in the rear passenger seat and pushed the window button we heard a loud pop and the window dropped in the door. It will not come back up. To replace this part is $400+ and the mechanic said that he sees this problem all the time in '00-'05 Jeep Grand Cherokees.

I am reporting a very big safety concern about 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited v8 hemi interior door handles as it is made of very cheap plastic and I have the four handles ripped off on my vehicle. The only way to open the doors are from outside. In case of emergency or if the car is damaged where I can not bring down the windows I will be stuck inside the car. When I tried to order a replacement parts I found it is out of stock and backordered. It might take few months before I get it. This just show how big is the problem and how many cars are involved.

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated the driver side passenger window regulator continued to fail and would cause the window to drop into the door panel sporadically. The contact stated the regulator for each window had been replaced at least once since purchasing the vehicle. The contact was concerned that the failure could potentially contribute to a crash. The failure mileage was 25,500 and the current was unknown.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - passenger side front power window stopped working. Also blower on heating/ac unit works intermittently.
I am the owner of a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. Recently, the drivers side power window experienced a malfunction and will not work. The problem was diagnosed as a defective regulator. The repair cost $516. I have investigated this issue on the web and have determined that this issue with the Jeep power window regulator is a widespread, systemic problem with all Jeep vehicles. I believe that Chrysler should initiate a recall on this part.

Driving along the highway when the passenger window started to go down by itself. I had some paperwork in the car and it started blowing around, causing me to become distracted and nearly hitting another car on the highway until I was able to pull over safely. The window regulator failed, which is a common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Front driver-side window drive actuator broke for the second time. Window won't stay up and will not move up or down. Had to have the whole window motor replaced at a cost of $500. 00. The window drive actuator is plastic and apparently breaks frequently. This appears to be designed to fail. This is a defect and should be recalled.

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver side window opened and fell into the door panel without engagement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where she was advised that the window regulator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The exact same failure recurred on the front passenger window within months. The passenger window was replaced by the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 67,590.
Failure of both passenger and driver front window control mechanisms within 17 months of each other. Replacement is $545. 00 each, with two hours labor ($212. 00) being charged when it took less than 1 hour to complete replacement. Service was at a Jeep dealership.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd overland window on front passenger side, suddenly fell down into door. (they are electric windows. ) away from home and female, inclement weather, and unable to lock car to secure while doing business in an area that was not very safe. Sits on plastic track and napa said it is a known occurrence, replaced with metal track. Two months later the same thing happened to the drivers window, parked for event came out that window is half way down. Had guest traveling with me 30 had to drive 30 miles at night on freeway, inclement weather with window down. Just waiting for the back windows to fall into door, will replace when I can afford to. This is definately a manufactures defect.
Several window motors on my 2001 Jeep have broke in the past two years. When this happens, the window falls down by itself and will not go back up without getting out of the car to manually push it back up. I had to pull over on the side of the highway to push my window back up for fear of it going all the way down and not being able to get it back up in the freezing cold weather. I am also concerned about the possibility of hitting a bump in the road and the window falling down hard and shattering. Please also take into consideration the fact that this has happened to three of my windows so far and that I am not the only one with this problem and Chrysler is refusing to do anything about it. Since it is so expensive to repair, I as well as many others are forced to live with it until I can save up enough money to get it fixed.

Defect with motor and regulators in windows.
All four windows gears and tracks have broken within the last year. Motors have had to be replaced on all four windows.
In may 2009 my passenger front window regulator went out. My local Jeep dealership said that Jeep makes cheap window regulator parts and this is a common problem with Jeeps. Yet they wanted to charge me $497. 00 to fix problem. I went ahead and fixed it, because I couldn't drive around with a window rolled down everywhere I went. Now 5 months later the passenger rear window has also broken, due to the same problem and the sunroof will also not close properly. I feel that if Jeep admits to using cheap parts for their windows, then they should also fix them for free when they break so often. I cannot afford close to $500 per window every 6 months when they keep breaking.
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The driver-side window fell inside of the door frame. He made a temporary remedy, until he was able to have the vehicle repaired. This failure has occurred three times. The manufacturer was notified, and he was advised that the failure was not common for his model. The failure mileage was 88,000.
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, window regulator failed and window will not close. My son's car with my grand kids. My son has identified numerous similar failures on other cherokees. The failure occurs suddenly and had it been inclement weather, could affect drivers ability to control vehicle.
Drivers side window regulator has broken 2 times, with window falling inside the door frame. Jeep dealer replaced both times with a new regulator, but each was out of warranty when it broke again.
I own a 2002 Jeep cherokee 4x4 quad drive ,I recently broke down had to be towed. The problem was cooling fan. Due to the relay switch. This is just one of many electrical problems I have with this Jeep the door lock motors failed the windows failed on both driver and passenger side doors the bk hatch failed. The cost for the relay pkg was 347. 59 I have yet to replace passengerside window operator and driverside door locks as they are both well over 300. 00 each. This seems to be a defect as I have heard the same complaints from people that own 2002 Jeep cherokees.
While vehicle was shut off passengerside window fell down into door. When taken apart problem appeared to be a broken plastic clip on regulator. About 2 months later while driving, I heard a load pop noise and the driver's side window fell down into door, again broken plastic clip on regulator.
The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact has experienced several failures with the windows. When proceeding to roll down the front passenger side window, it drops down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed. The window was repaired at the cost of $450. While driving 25 mph, the rear driver's side window also dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed again. The window was repaired at the cost of $106. 50. One year later, while driving 65 mph, the driver's side window dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and is in the process of being repaired. In addition, when the contact opened the sunroof, she was unable to close it back. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the motor failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 239 and current mileage was 20,230.
I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In the spring of 2007, my driver's side window regulator broke (the window fell, would not roll up or down). I had it replaced. In October 2007, the same thing happened to my passenger side window. In may 2008, the same to my right rear passenger window, and in sept 2008, the same to my left rear passenger window. All windows have failed within one year of each other. The final straw was today when the rear drivers side window regulator failed again. I do not have the money to fix these, and believe that Chrysler should issue a recall to repair the windows. I have received an estimate of $347 per window to repair the three windows. I can't afford this and expect Jeep to correct the problems.
It would not roll down. The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the engine unexpectedly stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle restarted after the first attempt. The gear shifter was placed into drive and the accelerator pedal was depressed, but there was no response. The contact made several attempts before the vehicle was able to be driven again. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. In addition, the gear shifter was stuck in park and would not shift into reverse. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on a separate occasion for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 2,355. Updated 3/3/09 the consumer had difficulty getting the vehicle thevehicle out of gear. The left front window did not functin properly. Updated 03/04/09.
2nd time window regulator broke. Defective and very expensive to fix. Jeep needs to recall this part.
I bought my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2006 (2nd owner) since then I have replaced the driver's side front window regulator ($400) and now the passenger front needs to be replaced. . . I have a rubber scraper stuck in it to keep the glass up until a recall is made.
My 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had the window just begin to fall into the door on three out of the four windows now and it is usually at the most dangerous moment possible while I'm on the highway or on the road in general. I turn to see no window or the window mysteriously down and I am unable to roll it up. This presents many different hazards not only to the vehicle itself but, also to the occupants whether it is a child or my canine companion they both like to lean on the window and look out even though a child will have a seatbelt on if the window falls down and the child falls out towards the opposing traffic still hanging by a seat belt this is not a situation I am willing to risk. And I will lose my puppy if he is sitting there no doubt about it he will fall right out and it isn't easy to leave him at home every time I go somewhere because I'm afraid of the window failing again it's completely unpredictable. Also with the weather it is not very practical to pull off of the highway which is an extremely dangerous area already but to try and somehow prop the window up isn't a safe situation any way you look at it. As cars whisk by at upwards of 70 miles an hour I try and fix something that can be fixed by changing one part on the window regulator. There is already an after market block that can replace the faulty brittle plastic piece. I would appreciate some consideration with this issue. //s// jake trione.
The windows in this Jeep have always worked great. On December 3th, we rolled the window down, but it wouldn't go up. The regulator in the passenger side front window broke and the window will not roll up. It will soon be fixed.
My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has now had all four window regulators fail with no apparent reason with an accumulated repair cost topping $1300. Most recently, the regulator on the window next to my infant son failed while traveling on the interstate during an intense thunderstorm, causing the window to fall into the door and soaking my child-quite a distraction at 70mph.
