1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/22/2015

As I was backing out of my driveway today my brakes failed, and when I say failed I mean I had no brakes at all. I cannot tell you how frightening this was. I managed to stop the car by shifting it back into park. I was able to do this because I was not going very fast. Since 2/12 (time of purchase) until 8/14 I have received 3 recalls (cylinder misfire, brake booster and sun visor wiring) on this brand new vehicle! I received the brake booster recall in the summer of 2014. It took a few months to get an appointment to have it fixed because of lack of parts in stock. I finally got an appointment on 10/8/14 at kelly Jeep, lynnfield, MA (place of purchase) to have both the brake booster and the sun visor wiring repaired. The cylinder misfire was repaired before this time and before I actually received the recall because of problems I was having with the engine. After the brakes failing me today, I am grateful that I was not on the street/highway, that none of my children were driving the car or I was not driving someone else's child in a carpool. This does not change the fact that if the brakes failed just a couple of minutes later I could have been killed or even worse, have killed someone else, for the failure of the brake booster that was supposedly fixed on 10/8/14.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

While reversing from a driveway with an incline brakes were not responsive. I would like to file a formal complaint against Chrysler for not supplying the parts to dealerships/car owners for all recalls (p14,p36, impending alternator recall, etc). These recalls in my opinion are all extremely dangerous and endanger the general public along with the owner of these vehicles. P-36 vanity light catch fire, p-14 break failure, impending alternator - car loses power unexpectedly. I will also mention our warranty periods have been extended for 5 additional yrs and 50,000 miles due to possible left cylinder head failures. Shame on Chrysler for not supplying parts and making the dealerships the middle men who also dont help the customers and point back at you. Lives are at risk. . . Supply the parts and rectify your poor quality control.

4 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Received notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v154000. Took vehicle to dealer for inspection early June to have inspected to see if new brake booster system was needed or just shield. Dealer informed only shield was needed. Dropped vehicle off with an appointment before a road trip on August 12, 2014. I was informed after (around 8/16/14) I returned from road trip that brake booster and cylinder were actually needed and more time was needed for repair. Dealer would not give me rental as none were available. Finally got rental middle of following week after taking off work again. Parts delivery eta expedited to 9/1/14. Received call 8/28/14 indicating vehicle repair done. I was required to return rental before I could verify work on vehicle. Returned rental, took delivery of vehicle. Brake pedal went all the way to floor. Almost caused me to hit two other vehicles in the dealer's parking lot. Service advisor informed me this is normal with the recall replacement parts. I disagree so advisor has technician drive it and agree with me that it isn't normal. I am informed abs system needs to be bled a few more times. Had to go home again and return later to pick up vehicle again. This time it was ok. Completely unreasonable amount of time for parts, had to take off many days of work, and dealer had no empathy for situation. This is in addition to having to fight for a rental. Now, a few days after having received my vehicle back, vehicle has loud tick on startup and while driving louder than radio, but I could not replicate at dealer. Service advisor didn't seem to believe me about tick and I was told hemi engines typically tick. This is not my first vehicle or my first experience with a hemi engine. It isn't normal. No interest in servicing vehicle and informed me to bring it back when it was making the tick sound. I've tried twice and I can't get it to happen at dealer.

5 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

April 5, 2013, less than a year (purchased - 2012 Jeep grande cherokee laredo) the check engine light went on, took vehicle to service department, and informed my service provider (Jeep dealership) there is a "problem" with the cylinder head. Very disturbing because the vehicle was purchased brand new, less than 10k miles and already a major part must be replaced on a "brand new" vehicle. I am informed that is not a common, and there are several other owners with the same problem "check engine light on". Repair took more than three days, because the entire engine must be taken out to replace these two cylinders. Very alarming and very concerned for the future of this vehicle, what else could possibly go wrong next? two months later, driver side seat must be replaced due to cracks in the "leather". Two months after, brakes are making strange noises, acceleration very slow, stalls, must press very hard on gas pedal for vehicle to pick up speed, very frightening especially when entering the freeway. Door panels appears loose, the doors (3) will not stay open, requires extra push and hold before it stays open by itself. To close the door I must literally slam the door, otherwise not shut, very disturbing because my childrens sit back there. Hopefully this is my last encounter the cameras (back) of vehicle flash on and off, I am very concern especially when the position of the driver seat makes looking back very difficult, the camera cannot be functioning inefficiently. The vehicle has a 3/year or 36,000 mile warranty and with the amount of issues I have encountered I do not find that to be sufficient or even utterly appropriate. I purchased a brand new vehicle not a used. If there were no warranties I could not imagined paying out of pocket thousands of dollars on repairs.

6 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The incident occurred during acceleration up an entrance ramp incline from 30 mph to 50 mph entering the highway. When entering the highway a vehicle moved into my path at which time, I quickly moved my foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal to find the brake pedal was hard to press and my car did not respond to any brake pedal input, at that moment. I had to swerve to avoid contact with the other vehicle. A very short time later, the brakes appeared to function normally again. I was able to recreate this condition multiple times and brought my vehicle in for service. They were unable to recreate the condition initially. I rode with the technician and walked him through the steps to recreate my experience. He confirmed the condition existed. The dealership has replaced a brake booster vacuum hose and can still create the condition in my vehicle "a brake pedal that is hard to depress and does not slow/stop the vehicle immediately. " Chrysler has stated it is aware of this condition in it's pentastar 6 cylinder due to low vacuum brake boost under certain conditions and describes the condition as a "characteristic" of the engine, further explaining the "vehicle is working as intended. " while every one at the dealership and Chrysler was nice this is a safety concern that needs to be remedied immediately. Not having responsive brakes under all conditions is not acceptable, this is not a "characteristic" but a design flaw that someone needs to address before too many units are on the roads and experience the wrong conditions at the wrong time and someone is not able to swerve or stop in time. I can't imagine this has not occurred already. There is a "Chrysler start case" with this information in it.

7 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/22/2008

I have a 2005 grand Jeep cherokee, the brakes are awful. In February 09 I had brake work done on the front and in November of 09 I need brake work again but this time I needed rotors, they fixed it free of charge but now I have started experiencing the same problem and it have only been 7 months. The shop said that the reason for this is, they don't make the brakes big enough for a SUV by it being a 6 cylinder. So I guess every 6 to 7 months I will be going for brake service.

8 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

My wife and I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from the dealership. About two years ago the 4. 0 liter 6 cylinder engine started using coolant and causing the coolant light to alarm. The oil pressure would drop to "0" and sound the check gauges alarm. We took the car to the mechanic shop for costly repairs and troubleshooting. They replaced the water pump, couldn't find any leaks, and replaced the oil pump and rear main seal. They checked the bearing clearances and found them within tolerance. The car is still using one to two pints of coolant every three days and the oil continues to drop to "0" after warm-up. We replace the 4 wheel disc brakes and rotors every two years. The hood gas shocks won't hold the hood up and the shocks cost $150 a pair form the dealer and only last one year. We to have electric door locks that screech and don't lock the doors as well as rear light problems that work off and on. The emissions are much higher than normal on our recent smog test. This is an indication that the #3 and 4 cylinder is using the mysterious antifreeze loss. As a retired mechanical engineer I also believe the oil problem to be related. My wife has the Grand Cherokee and I purchased a tj wrangler new in 2000. I'm concerned this vehicle will develop the same problems having the same engine. We have invested over $50 thousand in these two cars. We need your help to help us offset this burden.

12 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/11/2003

1. Fuel injector failed causing the engine to misfire and operate on only 5 out of 6 cylinders. 2. In the same cylinder (#6) rod broke, causing engine to blow and need replacement at only 42,000 miles. 3. Power steering pump almost fell off the vehicle. (most likely due to improper installation after engine rebuild). 4. Brakes constantly squeak or make grinding noise when pressure is applied. When temperatures are below 50 degrees, a high pitched whinning noise is heard from underneath the vehicle. Can only be heard when traveling under 45 mph - due to road noise masking the sound. (multiple dealers have not been able to determine what the problem is nor be able to fix it, so constantly whines). 5. Fuel gauge fluctuates when 3/4 full (drops to empty and fuel light turns on, then returns to normal reading. Will continue to do this until tank is 1/4 full). Told this is a problem with the fuel sensor. 6. Transmission is occasionally rough (jerky shifting between 1st and 2nd gears).
