The front rotors have been a problem right before 2000 miles. The dealer have changed them on two or three times in the past and I have three time. The last time recently, I had to change the rotors three times before I got some that weren't worped. They only lasted for less than a month before they were overheated and warped again. I should not have to go through this all the time for a product that should be better than that. Chrysler has a responsibility to provide quality rotors that will last. Presently, the warped rotors are on my Jeep and I don't know what else to do. I have tried after market and they are worst. Thank you dt.

While driving, consumer applied brakes and without warning brakes made noise and skipped. The rear axle seals were leaking. Left front out side mirror was loose. The right front window rattles. The rear hatch light was inoperable. The brakes pulsated and the rotors were resurfaced. Shock absorber makes noise when hitting slight bumps. The vehicle rattle in front at 15-30 mph. The front tires were wearing out due to misalignment. The vehicle was hard to start after warmed up.
While traveling down a mountain road, gaining speed, put car into 2nd gear in order to slow down and not over-use the brakes. . . Car suddenly bolted back and brakes locked up and became unresponsive. I steered out of hitting the median , (it was a windy mountain road), but hit the back of a tractor trailor. . I was then hit from behind by another tractor-trailor and projected fowared. I was able to manuever over to shoulder of road. Placed car's transmission in park. . But it continued to move foward !!! I had minor aches and pains, car sustained at least $9500 worth of collission damage. Told repair to check brakes and transmission. . . They said everything ok. . I did not do anything unusual in this driving experience. I am extremely fearful of the vehicle. It is still in shop waiting for final estimate. I want to make sure the frame and brakes and transmission are ok before I consider using vehicle again. My confidence is lost. Can Jeep respond and let me know why this happened. . . Will they buy-back ? it is on extended warranty til January 2003 or 43,000 miles. I just purchased in January of 2002. I now realize many Jeeps have many problems.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee VIN 1j4gw58n1yc310169 at approximately. 15,000 miles: front brake rotors warped resulting in a severe shimmy/jerking of the front tires which resulted in pulling the car off the road. Dealer said tough luck, expense included rotor repair and damaged front tires. Now at 40. 000 miles problem appears to be returning. Based on previous recalls, talking to dealers, brake repair shops and reading many similar complaints on the internet as well as our local school van traveling with students having a wreck because of rotor failure, it is more than obvious that there is a known serious problem with inferior/unsafe brake rotors. Like most americans, I have been exposed to stories of how the auto manufactures are knowingly willing to trade a few hundred lives to avoid the expense of recalls and building cars with safe components. It doesn't take a real bright person to know that when the steering and braking system on a car fails while traveling at normal speeds and in my case on treacherous mountain roads that serious accidents may and will result. My goal is to have this problem addressed by daimler Chrysler and industry-wide before, not after, the body counts start adding up. I have been in contact with daimler Chrysler and was basically told where to stick my concerns and complaint. Any assistance will be appreciated by me and I suspect by other potential victims. Sincerely, gary shaw.
When I went to start the vehicle I stepped on the brake pedal the pedal went clear to the floor. I started the car and stepped on the brake again to shift the brake pedal again went to the floor. I pumped the brakes and the pressure came up. I took the car to the dealer, and they said they could not find any codes to indicate what happened. The brakes do pulse sometimes when you step on them. Thank you.
Rotors are not working correctly, and brakes make noise when being applied. Also, there is extended stopping distance.
Miller Jeep in lebanon, nh says this is a common problem with 2001/2002 Jeeps. Technical service has issued a service note that brakes are not limited to 12,000 warranty previously stated. However Jeep has refused to replace the problem brake system. If this is a common problem, why can Jeep get away with selling defective systems with no replacement policy?.
Prior to the accident I had noticed on a couple of occasions that when I tried to park at a slow speed, pressed the brake, the car continued to move forward. I took my foot off the brake and reapplied it, which stopped the forward movement. Then I was able to park the car without incident. On the day of the accident (5/22/02), I noticed a car 40-50 yards in front of me half way into a right turn. I applied the brakes and the car slowed down and within 10-15 yards of the vehicle in front of me, I realized that the car was moving forward even though my foot was on the brake. In order to avoid hitting the other car flush from the rear, I swerved the Jeep to the left and struch his left rear light a glancing blow. At that point I stopped the car by reapplying my foot to the brake. I was traveling approximately 5 mph. I took the car in to buerge Chrysler Jeep, the brakes system was examined by my service man who agreed with me that the brake pedal is very soft and went all the way to the floor. I asked him to see if the brake fluid was low. He said that Chrysler would bring in an independant investigator. On wed. 5/29/02, I received a call from the investigator who said that his report would be submitted in 10 days. I was told that the special investigator said the car could be released to me and that, in fact, there were no problems that he could find. I asked the service manager to reexamine the car and drive with me, and he said that the biggest problem in these situations were a defect is intermittant and is not always obvious. One other incident occurred when I depressed the brake, it made an unusual wooshing sound which I had not heard before and the brake pedal depressed to the floor.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee had the brakes & rotors changed at 22,000 miles through a recall. Now, at 55,000 miles they both need to be done again. This does not seem like typical wear and tear as I have never had to replace brakes and rotors after such a short distance. Dealership blames it on driving techniques, but like I said, I have never had to do this with any other vehicles I have owned.
4-11-02 while attempting to stop for left turning vehicle , car accelerated while brake applied, neccessitating driver to run onto shoulder to avoid collision with left turning vehicle. 5-01-02 while stopping to enter roadway from parkinglot car accererated while brake applied, causing car to move into oncoming traffic. 6-6-02 while going through drive-thru at mcdonald's, car accelerated while brake applied, stopping within inches of preceding vehicle. 5-1-02 adam's installed CO-pilot. 6-6-02 CO-pilot activated and car taken in for 3rd time. Again told could not find anything. Requested call from Chrysler rep. Steve grimwood phoned on 6-13-02 said cannot duplicate what was reported wrong with vehicle, so cannot repair. Have seen atty. Since, but do not want to drag this out and am afraid of vehicle harming someone. Please advise.
When brakes are applied while driving 55mph or more vehicle vibrates severely. Dealer has been notified. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.
Front end shimmy occurs when decelerating from highway speeds or slowing down. Took to dealer, and they've replaced brakes and rotors 5 times at 9000 miles. Problem is still occurring. Please provide any further information.
Coming to a stop, foot on brake. Felt power surge. Slamed on brakes , put Jeep in neutral.
When brakes applied the vehicle jumps to a stop.
Brakes have been repaired 2 times within the first 35 to 38 thousand miles and are shuddering violently when braking at highway speeds - seems to be a defect for this to happen three times with just 45 thousand miles on the vehicle.
Onsumer's foot was on brake when vehicle lurched in reverse. Dealer will be notified.
While driving manifold gasket overheated, and brakes pulsated.
Purchased the Jeep in September-1st incident occurred sept 30-engine cut off. Trouble light indicated no oil. Took Jeep into dealer I was told it was a lose electrical switch. 2nd incident Jeep had a sizzling sound from engine area like air escaping from valve or manifest. The brakes had a clicking sound when pressed. Took in for repair to dealer. The dealer-prebul Jeep replaces the gear box without informing me of the recall. I was not informed of a recall when I purchased the Jeep. Now the engine sounds like a race car, car shakes when idle, when changing gears sound is harsh like something is tearing, and the brakes click. I was told by prebul repair that there was no problems now and all the Jeeps sound like that. The Jeep now drives very rough. I have owned a Jeep previously and it never sound like this one.
While driving about 55 mph could step on brake pedal and steering wheel will start vibrating in an uncontrolable way. Consumer had taken vehicle to dealer more than four times for same brake problem. Dealer had repaired and rotated rotors, but this had not solved the situation. Please provide more information.
While slowly backing up with trailer attached vehicle suddenly accelerated. Trailer jack knifed and crashed into metal building. Consumer had brakes applied. Then, shifted to drive. Vehicle accelerated to 35-40 mph ,and headed towards a lake. Consumer shut off engine to stop vehicle. Damage to vehicle was $ 5000. 00, damage to building unknown. No injuries.
Rotors failed at 7k, 14k, and 27k. Never had a car that needed brake work at 27k. Suspect that brake system is undersized for vehicle.
Front and rear brake rotors had to be replaced twice with 43000 miles on vehicle. Vehicle was not stopping within the distance it should stop. Contacted dealer.
Brakes were a constant problem that began at 80,00 miles. Rotors have been replaced every 8000 miles. Dealer reported it was a wear and tear issue. Vehicle was regularly serviced. Brakes began showing a wearing problem. Rotors become warped and w-wheel anti lock brakes becamee defective. Happened while driving in all weather conditions.
Jeep dealer recomends replacement at cost of $1000. 00; no alternatives .

I have contacted Jeep via 1-800-992-1997 3 times and left messages with erin @ x7110. She returned the first call but I was unavailable. The second call was disconnected and she did not return the call again. The third message has not been returned. Jeep has refused to help me in any way and I am trying to see what avenues I have through the government. I would appreciate someone from the NHTSA contacting me about what protection under the law I have. I am willing to work with Jeep but they are not willing to work with me. It takes an average of 30 minutes just to get through to their 800 number and the person who is handling my account is never available when I call. I would appreciate some help. No safety defect listed.
On several occasions prior to accident, always under five miles an hour, I would step n the brake and the car wanted to keep going. On the occasion of the accident, I applied both feet to the brakes and the vehicle did not stop and hit a chain link fence. An invsestigator from Chrysler check the vehicle on 8/29/01 and indicated that the only thing that could have happened is that the accelerator pedal sits high than the brake pedal and I hit both at the same time. My foot is not wide enough to hit both at the same time. In a previous incident, I was in park , put the vehicle into reverse and it lerched backward. The investigator could only duplicate the situation by putting his foot on both the brack and accelerator at the same time. This vehicle is unsafe and I am afraid to drive it.
Consumer has had the brakes replaced numerous times. After stepping on the brakes the steering wheel shakes. Manufacturer states there is nothing wrong with the brakes, this is normal wear.
Vehicle has extended braking distance, mechanic noticed the rear rotors were disintegrating. Front rotors had to be replaced for the same problem 2 years ago. Front stabilizer defective.
