37 Defogger Controls problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/02/2006

Automatic climate control system blows only cold air from the right side even when high heat has been selected. Thousands of Grand Cherokees are affected by this problem. Repair costs are in the $1200-1500 range. This should prompt a recall order.

38 Defogger Controls problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/22/2006

I get no heat coming out of the vents, only cold air. It was 10 degrees this morning and I have a 45 minute drive to work with no heat. Could be a safety issue if I didn't park in a garage. There would be no way of clearing the windshield of ice. Went to the dealer and they tell me it could be at a minimum $1,200 to fix it and then they won't guarantee it will be a permanant fix.

39 Defogger Controls problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/15/2006

My ventilation system is in the process of failing. I have a loud creating sound coming from underside my dash. When I turn on the system, it doesn't always heat/cool the way it is supposed to. Sometimes the heat comes on, sometimes the cool comes on when the other is chosen. Sometimes if it's supposed to be on the floor its on the defroster. Also, the drivers side seat heater acts up but mostly it doesn't work.

40 Defogger Controls problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/15/2006

It appears as though 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees have an issue with "blend door" failure in the hvac system. The failure will prevent heat from reaching the windshield. In freezing conditions the windshield will unexpectedly ice up and result in poor visibility. After speaking with dealership and independent repair technicians as well as internet research, it appears the failure rate is "very high". The manufacturer has revised the faulty parts used in this system (TSB#2400104) but are doing nothing to alert owners of the potential, unexpected failure.

41 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/03/2006

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee overland. I realized my heater vents on the passenger side weren't working after the vehicle was beyond the 36,000 mile warranty. I believe the failure was long before 36,000 miles but it was too late for the problem to be covered by the warranty. I took it to a dealer who told me the vent-air door had failed. The cost to repair was quoted at being around $1300. I thought it strange that a failure of this type would occur especially in a vehicle with low mileage. I haven't got the vehicle repaired yet but it is certainly an aggravation in the winter. I talked to two people where I work who own Grand Cherokees and both their Jeeps have the same problem. Seems like an unusual coincidence. After checking on the internet it appears a lot of Jeep owners are having the same heater-vent door problems. Sounds like a design problem to me that Jeep owners are paying the price for.

42 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/2006

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower blend doors and recirculation doors no longer function. To my knowledge, this is a design flaw and will affect every 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with auto climate control. The dealerships request a ridiculously high price for repairs. Jeep/Chrysler should step up and correct this malfunction in their faulty product.

43 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/13/2006

It appears that all Jeeps from 99-04 have a blend door malfunction. I bought my Jeep used in 2006 it is a 2002 with 62000 mile on it bought it in the summer and it was 100 degrees out. Had no idea that the heater did not function 2 months later the temperature dropped and I was in the cold on the passenger side. Contacted dealer scheduled repair had to pay half of the $840. 00 bill. Was told it would probably do this again, since it is an all to common problem with the dual temp electronic climate zone models. Just thankful no one got hurt if window was unable to defrost and caused an accident.

44 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/05/2006

Visibility heating and cooling. Passenger side air wont heat. Drivers side works fine on dual climate control overland. Passenger side will not. When I phone my local dealer here in yankton sd, the service rep actually completed my sentence when I was describing the problem. He indicates this is a repeating ongoing problem with the Grand Cherokee. He even described the impaired vision as a result of the very well known malfunction. He told my wife and I that unless there is a severe chance of personal injury Jeep will not step up to the plate and take responsibility for this poor design flaw. Also he indicated it may cost as much as $1500 to fix. He suggested I stuff plastic bags into the heat duct to stop the flow of cold air until I get it repaired. He commented that poor visibility will continue if not worsen by doing so. Plain and simple, Jeep needs to take accountability for their design flaw. The know the problem is theirs but continue to take advantage of their customers for their own doing. If I wanted this kind of treatment, I would of purchased a gm. The tacoma, great performer and service people who don't take you for an idiot.

When turn heat on cold air will come out. You will have to turn the head on and off so you can get heat to work. You should not have to do this to a 30. 000 $ car!!!! this need to be fixed. . . . This has happened a lots!!!!.

47 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/12/2006

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with 60,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat and driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on both sides of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.

48 Defogger Controls problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Heater/air conditioner ventilation system not functioning properly. Just stopped working. Would not direct heat/air to all vents. Was not covered by extended warranty, even though they knew there was a defect in the equipment. $1200+ to fix with a couple $10 parts! the whole dash has to come off.

52 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/14/2006

Heater blend door inoperable. My pregnant wife and I were driving in the mountains near big bear, California . It was about 30 degrees that morning and the heater didn't work. It actually blew cold air on the windshield, and it froze blocking our view when we ran off the road. We could have been killed.

53 Defogger Controls problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2005

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited; the blend air door is broken. Therefore, only cold air blows out of the passenger side of the car, including the defroster. Keeping the car defrosted in certain winter conditions is difficult and dangerous. This is an ongoing problem and based on two Jeep dealers that I have talked to (and various internet sites), this is a common problem and extremely expensive to repair.

54 Defogger Controls problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/09/2005

(1) none (2) the heater to my 2001 Grand Cherokee limited no longer functioned, only cold air flowed from the air vents regardless of the temperature selected. (3) I took the vehicle into a Jeep dealership and they told me the blend doors were broken and needed to be replaced to fix the problem. The estimated cost was $1,400 and the extended warranty I bought from Chrysler did not cover the problem. I am still saving up money so that I can have the repair done. This has caused great discomfort to myself and my passengers these past two winters.

55 Defogger Controls problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

The contact states he owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The consumer states that there was technical service bulletin 10005603 regarding the visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:controls/wiring. The consumer stated that he had the repairs done, but the cost was $1,357. 24. He was still not satisfied with the repair of the vehicle because some of the vents pushed through a lot of air, and some of the vents pushed through a minimum amount of air. The consumer felt that this was a safety defect because it did not allow the defrosting system to work properly on the passenger's side of the vehicle. The consumer was concerned that there was no heat or air conditioning on the passenger's side. The digital control for the passenger's side of the door did not work due to the breaking of the door vents and the duct work for the defrost/defogger, air conditioner, and heating system. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they stated they would get back in contact with the consumer after they contacted the dealership. When the manufacturer called back, they stated there was nothing that they would do because the vehicle was over the three year, 36,000 miles warranty. The transmission governor solenoid was replaced. The rotors were replaced because they were warped.

Failure Date: 12/08/2004

Less than 50,000 miles on my vehicle and the dual climate control on my 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited went out. Same things as thousands of other Jeep owners have experienced. Faulty blend door in the dash went out, cost me 1800 dollars to repair. This happens to every Jeep Grand Cherokee I know of between years 1999-2004. A recall should be issued.

57 Defogger Controls problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

59 Defogger Controls problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/13/2004

I am not sure this is the correct place for this so if not maybe you could direct me to the proper place for my complaint. I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 20 months ago the blend doors in the automatic climate control broke the cost for this was around $1000. 00, last month the same problem occured and Jeep being aware of the problem updated the part so as to not fail so easily in Jan 2004. I still had to pay for a complete repair again. My question is there anyway to get someone involved that can look into this poorly engineered item. Sincerely daniel knight.
