2 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited model- driver's side heated power mirror exploded while driving. I was driving on 1/30/10 in rye brook, NY and temperatures were approximately 15 degrees fahrenheit. As I was driving the driver's side mirror literally exploded. The roads were clear and free of debris and I swerved off the road as I thought someone had thrown a rock or a ball at my window. I quickly got out of the car and noticed a gaping hole through the mirror but no other damage to any other part of the vehicle. No scratches were on the mirror or the car but there was a greenliquid from inside the mirror loosely scattered in small spots on the driver's side. It was the same green liquid present in greater amounts within the mirror. It was clear the mirror malfunctioned and imploded. I contacted the dealership where I got the vehicle and Chrysler corporate headquartered and they said such a defect would not be covered. There could have been a serious injury as I ran off the road I heard the bang and mirror exploded. I then contacted my local body shop and the owner confirmed he has seen faulty wiring and exploding mirrors for power heated mirrors.

4 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

I am writing to express my frustration and anger regarding my 2000 Grand Cherokee. Since this past October, I have experienced a myriad of problems which include the following: 1. A broken ventilation deflector which prevents any air from coming through the ventilation. I spent nearly $100. 00 to find out that it is a $37. 00 part with $500. 00 in labor just to install it. I have children in the car, and the summer heat of 100+ degrees is in my mind, dangerous. 2. All of the passenger doors cannot be opened either manually or remotely from the outside or inside. I received an estimate to replace the lock actuators at a staggering cost of $500. 00 per lock! the doors cant be opened from the outside or from the inside without systematically unlocking the doors with the remote, then reaching in from the drivers seat to manually unlock them from the inside. It doesnt take a genius to see that this is a huge safety issue if I happen to get in an accident and the passengers (children) are unable to get out of the vehicle. The Jeep mechanic said this is a common occurrence with Jeeps for quite a while. 3. The driver side mirror broke when my wife was adjusting the angle of the mirror. There is now no tension to hold the mirror in place. All of these problems began 8 months ago and I am more than a little angry about it, especially when none of these items are covered past the 3 year warranty. All tolled, I am looking at spending somewhere in the range of $3000. 00 to fix these problems. Right now I am extremely unsatisfied customer, and expect some healthy measure of cooperation from Jeep.
