Steering Gear Box Problems of Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 2

Vehicle is pulling to right at all times, dealer stated it was steering gear assembly. There is recall 01v007000/ steering gear assembly, but this vehicle is not included due to VIN.

While driving approximately 20 mph, and without any prior warning, steering wheel instantly locked up when a left turn was initiated. Turn could not be completed and the vehicle went off road and into a yard before coming to stop. No injuries, but had speed been higher, or an open yard not available, this would have in my mind been a potentially catastrophic and life threatening event. Engine was running, and serpentine belt had not broken. Vehicle was towed to dealer and reportedly had steering gear box replaced. There have been other similar complaints and this should be investigated given the potential to cause a serious collision.

Steering wheel/column is making a clicking noise when wheel is turned, and steering wheel feels as if it is loose. Also, when wheel is turned a beeping noise is emitted on a random occurrence. Dealership has examined vehicle, and changed gear box three (3) times. However , problem has not been corrected. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Recall 01v00700/ manufacturer's recall 965; steering makes a grinding noise only when turning. Vehicle has been to dealer 3 times. Chrysler hasn't instructed how to repair it.

While turning the steering wheel, consumer heard a loud pop, consumer examined vehicle and found two large hardened bolts which fastened the entire steering gear box mechanism to the frame had severed, dealer replaced the steering box, bolts, lower radiator hose, and coolant.

I have taken my car into either courtesy motors in chico California or normandin Jeep in chico California. Each time, my car was returned to me unrepaired. No safety defect listed in summary.

Experiencing what the dealership calls a honking noise in the steering wheel sometimes when making right turns. The dealership has tried to fix the problem twice now by putting two steering gear assemblies in and the problem still exists. Now they think the tubing for the steering wheel fluid is the problem and that it needs to be re-designed. They think the tube is to small. Could this problem possibly cause me any safety problems while driving? what should I do considering they are telling me that they have to re-design this tubing?.

Steering squeak or moan when turning, evident since day of purchase, vehicle is now one year old. Repaired numerous times but still not fixed. Other vehicle problems includes warped rotors at 14000miles, dealership replaced front rotors.

The daimlerchrysler district manager for maryland and d. C. First told me that the "crown" of the roadway was the cause of my problems with this 2000 Jeep grand lemon - when pressed to present a more creditable explanation for the extreme steering pull to the right side of the roadway, his answer was: "mr. Jackson, I'm telling you as the washington zone manager for daimler Chrysler that I cannot find any problems with this Jeep and as the zone manager for maryland I say you do not have a problem, therefore daimlerchrysler does not consider this Jeep to be defective. As the daimler Chrysler zone manager I am telling you that in my opinion there are no problems with this vehicle". --- what a load of !@#$% !!!!!!!! --- (a complimentary load of !@#$% seems to be standard equipment on all Jeep Grand Cherokees and this is one feature I could do without) --- the daimerchrysler people have proven to me that they are arrogant, flat out liars. They just laughed at me when I said I would be reporting these problems to NHTSA. They just don't care. -- in two or three years, when daimler-benz finally dumps the Chrysler division into that deep cesspool of defective products and obscene customer service, I will be happy to attend the corporate liquidation sale in auburn hills - driving my new Honda.

Steering makes a sqeaking noise when right hand turns are made. Dealer has replaced gear box twice . The problem still exists. The dealer is starting to ignore me and refusing to aknowledge the problem now that the car is out of warranty. A formal complaint will be filed with daimler=Chrysler.

While driving noticed steering getting loose, dealer discovered 2 bolts that held steering box had sheared off. Bolts were replaced. Then, on 8 July 2001, while driving 5 mph steering went out. Consumer had no control, had vehicle towed to dealer. Steering had collapsed.

Steering failure due to poor casting on the rear mount bolt for the steering gear box, resulting in shearing of the forward mount bolt which released the assembly. Dealer has been notified.

Steering gear, link and both tie rods failed causing loss of control of the vehicle. Mjs.

Daimler Chrysler has been aware of these problems, been on TSB software , but no recall but I have been continued to be mislead and now, I will proceed with either the lemon law or arbitration at this point. For a vehicle that cost $33,000 you would not of expected these types of problems, and when they occur Chrysler should own up to its responsibilities and fix the issues, customers have been misleard in thinking there getting a reliable and dependable vehicle and with this last problem I have encounter , there needs to be some justice and compensation for what I have to pay out , but yet I continue to pay my monthly payments . No safety defect mentione din summary.

Abs light, and brake light came on, indicating a brake malfunction. Wiring to the right wheel speed sensor was cut by lower control arm. The vehicle has electrical and suspension problems. Driver and passenger side power windows inoperative. Fuel pump failed. Vehicle is leaking transmission fluid due to pan gasket failure. Fuel is leaking from fuel tank due to defective fuel sending unit seal. Abs light, air bag lights are on and a/c blinkers are not working due to ignition switch looses. Vehicle makes noise due to power steering gear assembly failure.

99 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been in shop 5 times (current mileage:7500). I have had clattering/noises with sharp turns (transfer case fluid, then case itself, then pump replaced); gear whining noise Chrysler is blaming on the dana corp. My dealer "unable to fix problem as necessary tools are on back-order"; vibration when applying the brakes attributed to a warped rotor (per TSB); problems with keyless remote entry and slow refueling, something leaking from front end. Many other owners are having similar problems as evidenced by the multiple complaints on internet message boards (yahoo. Com; Jeepsunlimited. Com) Chrysler seems to be stonewalling on most of these problems, especially the dana corp. Rear-end problem. I'm very frustrated after having spent $38,000 on this vehicle!.

Seat warmer, when on, gets extremely hot, approximately 214 degrees. Dealer contacted, and cannot remedy the problem. Problem occurred three times. Also, steering gear box locked up and was replaced/transfer case was making noise and was replaced. Provide further information.

Consumer purchased vehicle in November 98, and has taken vehicle to dealership four times in four months for steering noise due to rack and pinion steering failure. Dealership replaced steering pump/gear box, and rack and pinion. Vehicle has been at dealership for one month for repairs. Jeep manufacturer is aware of the problems, and sent a representative to new jersey to look at vehicle . Representative has not found a remedy for this defect. Casting of the steering box failed resulting in leaking.

While making a left or right turn there is a very loud knocking noise coming from under the floorboard on the driver's side. Dealer stated that the problem was due to a worn out steering box. The steering box has not been replaced.

Steering wheel locks up intermittently at low speeds, making it impossible to turn the wheel, creating a significant safety hazard. Dealer refuses to fix it because he "can't duplicate the problem".

Involves "quadra-drive" system-extreme noise starting at 45mph-increases in volume with increased speed.

Vehicle steering locked up almost causing an accident. The consumer was making a left turn while driving in heavy traffic. Suddenly the steering locked up which almost caused an accident. The consumer pulled to the side of the road and checked the belts and power steering fluid, which were alright. The driver resumed driving but when he made another left turn the steering locked up again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the gear box failed. The repairs were not covered under warranty because it expired, therefore the consumer replaced the gear box himself. The consumer has the original gear box in his possession.

On my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, steering has to constantly be corrected. The vehicle will "wander" into another lane unless you constantly correct the steering. The steering feels very disconnected. Dealer says that this is just the way the steering works.

Defective steering box have been replaced twice within 1 month which is causing failure of sway bar. Please provide further information.
