1 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

As I was leaving a shopping center about 40 miles away from my house my Jeep and as I entered onto the interstate the Jeep acted like I was having a flat tire with the steering wheel shaking and giving me a lot of vibration and the flop flop sound you get from a flat tire. I stopped and got out but no flat tire, loose lug nuts or anything I could find. Put flashers on and headed up the road slowly not going over 45 mph. It finally quit and I was able to increase speed. It continues to have this wobble sound along with the steering wheel shaking off and on. I did some research and the only thing matched what happen was the Jeep death wobble. Some vehicles have had a recall on this but I don't see any for my year.

2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

I'm 100% convinced our vehicle fits "death wobble" condition. If you hit a bad bump or series of small bumps, front end shimmies violently with steering wheel shaking back and forth out of control. Can only slow down as braking doesn't seem to help much. It happened to my wife 3x and myself 1x already in past 6 weeks. Very scary!.

6 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

Driving about 50mph and the front end felt like it was coming apart. Steering wheel shaking bad and wheels felt wobbly. I have had this problem before and noticeably when I hit a bump or pothole at or above 45mph. What scared me the most I was coming up on traffic and had to brake. Braking while the vehicle is wobbly is very scary and feels as if the whole thing is coming apart.

9 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

While driving at speeds around 48 to 51 mph, you can feel the steering wheel start shaking sometimes if you take your foot off the gas petal it will stop but more than not it will go into a violent shake to where one can hardly hang onto the steering wheel. You have to try and get safely to shoulder and stop. Then you can drive away but when speeding up to merge back into traffic it does it again. When you just cant take it anymore you exit the freeway just to drive the city streets to where you get the small like shaking in the steering wheel. These past 2 weeks it seems to be happeing more often. I have had some work done as to what my guy thought it could be for it to not be fixed. I also now have the annoying air bag light coming on and beeping while turning any direction corner. I really like the Jeep but I only work part time and my fiance passed away 2 years ago before his passing he bought the Jeep so I would have a safe vehicle to drive. I do not feel safe driving the Jeep but it is the only one I do have now. . Parts and work done as of February of 2015. . . . . 3 tie rod ends replaced 2 lower one upper on passenger side, 2 new tires because I was told that is what was causing it. , a rear driver side wheel seal, a valve cover gasket, 2 sets of front brake pads and rotors cosing well over 1300. 00. And still have this violent shake. I can not afford to buy a different vehicle so please tell me what to stop the shaking forever.

10 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

While travelling perfectly fine for 2 hours on an expressway, our vehicle became completely uncontrollable as the road became slightly slippery and we decreased our speed to around 45 mph. The steering wheel began shaking, the vehicle felt like it was driving itself, shimmying left and right uncontrollably. We could not correct the vehicle from slightly fishtailing even after removing pressure from accelerator and reducing speed to 5-10 mph and driving on the shoulder where there was more traction. We were totally unable to control the vehicle. We switched the select-terrain knob to "snow" to see if that helped, but it continued to be virtually uncontrollable. We were afraid to completely stop the vehicle due to all other traffic flying past us going normal speeds. The vehicle miraculously made it to a gas station right off the highway and was towed to the nearest Jeep dealer. The service department took it out for two different drives and could not replicate the problem. They hooked it up to their computer diagnostic system and could find no error codes. We also inquired if it was part of the p64 recall regarding the electronic control stability and were told no even though it seems similar to the problem that the recall addresses. This was the most terrifying experience we have ever had in a vehicle. If there had been any vehicles in our immediate vicinity at the onset of the issue, we would have been in a horrific accident. Two other similar, but less intense scenarios had happened before this one, both including the same feeling of being out of control, once on a rainy road service, and the other on an intermittently slippery road. Because this seems to be an intermittent problem and one that is a huge safety concern, we refuse to drive this vehicle on the road again.

11 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

When I drove the car at around 60 mph the steering wheel shakes side to side aggressively. The dealership changed two drive shafts and checked the balance of the tires. After all that it still shakes the dealership said it just how the Jeep rides no car or truck I've drove ever did that. I think its a safety defect in the steering at high speeds and all I drive is expressway driving. A new vehicle should'nt drive like this.

12 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Driving highway speeds, 65 mph, hit a small bump on the road and the steering wheel began to shake violently. I purchased the vehicle new in early 2002 and this was the first incident. Since then this has happened several more time. Suspect a worn steering damper.

15 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/24/2012

Four times in the last year, the vehicle when traveling over 50mph, develops what online research describes as "death wobble". The steering wheel vibrates suddenly in your hands, the front end wobbles and it is difficult to control. Slowing down below 50mph usually resolves the issue. . . But that is an unacceptable solution. Seems to happen when the vehicle is warmed up and has traveled 20+ miles. A major national tv channel has produced a news article about this with film of the vehicle during the "death wobble". We believe that congress has asked Jeep about this issue previously. The Jeep company in our town suggested rotating tires and checking brakes. They claim to have never heard of this issue, however there are lots of online complaints. In addition to lots of complaints, there's been lots of money spent on lots of parts and labor to fix the issue. Everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what the problem and solution are. Even though there are only 45000 miles on the vehicle, it cannot be trusted to provide a safe journey. We are disappointed with the company and vehicle. Hoping for a recall soon! (on a side note, a neighbor of ours has also experienced this same issue with his Jeep. If we are aware of 2 people with the same issue, it has to be a major issue with the vehicle. ) please help. Thanks.

Steering wheel rubs and shakes when turning at low speeds. Loud rubbing sound like dragging your finger over a balloon. Causes difficulty steering and is dangerous in parking lots. This is an ongoing problem and daily occurrence with the vehicle. I've owned two other Jeep Grand Cherokees - a 1999 model and a 2000 model in addition to the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee I'm having this problem with. They all had this issue.
