Yesterday early evening, I was driving about 60mph on a highway in garland, texas, when all of a sudden my airbag deployed without cause. There was no impact to the car at the time of deployment, sudden stop or anything that would impact the deployment. It deployed, I lost control of my vehicle and went to the shoulder of the highway. No events that would lead to the deployment, not even the light that indicates "air bag. " it is now lit because it deployed, I'm assuming. This is the first time it has happened. The deployment of the airbag caused burns on my arm and a swollen wrist. I will take the vehicle into the dealership soon. Nothing has been done yet.

On 9/5/09 at approximately, 12noon central time, while at a stoplight, both drivers and passengers airbag deployed with no accident occurring. I was driving my 2003 Jeep Liberty that I purchased new. I suffered a bruises to my forearm, which was on the steering wheel at the time of the incident. I have recently seen a doctor to determine the extent of my injury. My car is currently at feeny Jeep Chrysler in elgin, IL. I have contacted Chrysler and am waiting for their response. A member from Chrysler was to go to the dealer on 9/10/09 to investigate why the airbags deployed. I was fortunate that I was not moving when this happened or more severe consequences may have occurred to me or other motorists. I am reporting this so that a thorough investigation can be conducted to make sure this does not happen to any other motorists. I suspect a manufacturing defect that led to the deployment of the airbags.

On June 6, 2006, my vehicle was involved in a frontal(t-bone) collision. A car pulled out in front of it after crossing 3 lanes of traffic. Speed was 55 mph. I was struck in the drivers front and smashed the front of the auto. Insurance totaled the car as damage was in excess of $11,000. A passenger was in the car. Both wore seat belts. Neither air bag deployed in spite of a frontal collision that totaled the vehicl.
The contact's husband was involved in an accident. Upon impact, neither of the air bags deployed. While exiting an on/off ramp the contact's husband was merging into traffic when the vehicle in front slammed on the brakes. Therefore, the contact's husband rear ended the vehicle in front of him while driving at 30 mph. Although, the contact's husband was wearing a seat belt he sustained major injuries to the face and head. His face hit the steering wheel so hard the doctor pulled pieces of the steering wheel out of the bridge of his nose. A police report was taken at the scene. The insurance company elevated the vehicle and deemed it a total loss. *a.
The consumer lost control of vehicle while driving 35 mph and hit a metal pole. The consumer refused medical treatment, but sustained a head injury. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified.
I was involved in a rear-end collision with a Lexus SUV. I ran into the back of a Lexus SUV that was unexpectly stopped in front of me and the entire engine compartment and front section of the Jeep collapsed forward at a 45% angle, pushing the entire front of the vehicle to the former location of the middle of the engine. This was on a 2003, Jeep Liberty with 13,000 miles and neither airbag in the Jeep Liberty deployed during the severe impact of the crash. There is currently $8,000+ of damage to the front of the Jeep Liberty and the prestice Dodge, in dallas, texas, has informed me that this is not a matter for them to deal with, because failed airbags are considered a factory defect. The vehicle was just surveyed for repairs today by allstate insurance and they are going to repair it, but after contacting the dealership "prestige Dodge" and asking them to go look at the car to verify the airbags had not gone off. The dealership provided me with a number for Chrysler 18009921997 to address these failed airbags with. I called Chrysler and the customer service center stated that if the collision center had already begun work on the car that Chrysler would refuse to acknowledge that the airbags did not go off and they would refuse to send an investigator because the collision center has already begun following allstates instructions to repair the front end of the vehicle. At this point Chrysler customer service hung up on me.
A tractor trailer rear ended the consumer's vehicle while driving at 65 mph. Upon impact, the vehicle was pushed into another vehicle twice. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed. The driver sustained neck, back, spine and hip injuries. Two years prior to this accident, air bag recall 01v373000 repairs were performed. The recall remedy failed.
Defective airbags on 2 Jeep Liberty vehicles. Both 2002 models. The first accident was in February of 2002. Both accidents were head on. Airbags failed to release on both occasions. Complaintant was wearing seat belt on both occasions.
I ordered my Jeep Liberty 7/01 and picked it up 9/01. The morning of 4/4/04 I was driving home and started crashing into trees. The car was spinning, back and forth across the road - hit 3 trees, mailboxes and a telephone pole (hard enough that even though it was the last thing that I hit, it moved enough that it tore the cables out of someone's house). About 50 feet before the 1st tree, was my front passenger tire and about 2 feet of the axle (or whatever holds the rim and tire on the truck). The front of the truck from the right front quarter panel to 1/3 across the front of the truck is up inside the dashboard, the back driver's tire is blown out, the spare tire on the back is smashed, the 2 passenger side doors are smashed and the entire truck is off the frame. I told the tow driver and police about the recall that I'd just gotten that stated that the "a ball joint that has separated from the knuckle could result in loss of vehicle directional control and could result in a crash. " I had an appointment to get it fixed 4/6/04. . . The accident was 4/4/04. My injuries: airbags didn't go off but I was wearing my seatbelt. I broke my arm (8 weeks in cast, 6 weeks in a brace and I'm still in physical therapy. Standard seatbelt bruise that lasted more than 3 weeks, and the associated pain. My insurance is covering my medical and the replacement of the car (with financing, it paid exactly what I owed). So, even though Jeep knew about the need for a recall in October 2003, I wasn't notified until March 2004. It was a clear dry night. I was awake and coherent, not speeding or drinking, and paying attention when I suddenly lost control. In fact, it's damn lucky that I was only going 35-40. Jeep claims they're not responsible. All I want is for them to admit that they were at fault. If they'd sent the recall notice in a timely manner, back in 10-11/03, it would have been fixed prior to another winter of snow and sleet and crap getting into that joint to corrode it!.
While driving, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle. This caused the driver to hit another vehicle on the drivers side. None of the air bags deployed. The driver was not hurt. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.
While vehicle was parked with the engine on front air bags deployed inadvertently. The cause of deployment had not been determined.
While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle was involved in a head on collision. During the air bag deployment, the driver's shirt caught on fire. The consumer reported to be a non smoker.
While driving at 55 mph consumer was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, neither of the air bags deployed. Dealer and manufacturer were notified.
We were traveling at 30 mph and vehicle that hit us was going 35-40. It ran a red light and we t-boned the othe rvehicle, smashing the front of my 2002 Jeep Liberty. No airbags deployed. We were both taken to the hospital ,and suffered substantial injuries, including hairline fractures to the collarbone and rib/bone chip and hematoma to the shin/ neck and back pain/bumps and bruises. I just sent Chrysler a letter with pictures of the car and police report, asking them to compensate us for their faulty equipment.
While traveling at 45 mph, another vehicle hit the consumer's vehicle head on and none of the airbags deployed.
Consumer's son was involved in a frontal collision and neither air bag deployed. Also, neither seat belt held the driver and passenger in their seats. Dealer notified.
The vehicle was involved in a collision, and the frontal air bags did not perform as designed.
Nhtsa campaign id#01v311000 id#01v373000 have not been notified by Chrysler of these. Had 2002 Jeep Liberty since Dec 2001 VIN#1j4gl58k22w216824.
Seat belt and air bag failure during head-on collision.
Failure of airbag to deploy and driver side seat belt to lock.
Upon making a slight lane correction at approx. 60 mph, my daughter's 2002 Jeep libety began swerving uncontrollably. She felt no resistance to the steering wheel as she tried to stop the swerving. At no time did she apply the brakes. Witnesses said it appeared she had a flat tire. Eventually, the vehicle entered the grass median and rolled 2. 5 or 3. 5 times coming to rest on the roof facing on-coming traffic. The complete rear end(tires and differential) separated and ended up approx. 75 feet from the vehicle. The right front axle or cv joint was broken. Neither her passenger or her air bags deployed. The driver's seat belt was broken at the end of the motion of the rolling. Both occupants were bruised and cut. We believe the axle failed and caused this potentially fatal accident. This vehicle had approx. 3000 miles on it. At 1800 miles the engine had thrown a rod and the engine was replaced completely. The Jeep Liberty is structurally unsound and of poor design particularly in the area of the rear suspension. Daimler-chysler has lowered the suspension in obvious response to roll over incidents. . .
Consumers son was involved in a collision. The collision caused the vehicle to roll over four times, coming to a rest on the vehicles top. None of the airbags deployed. After returning from the hospital where the son was being treated for contusions, the recall notice had been delivered, 01v37.
I was involved in an accident where a vehicle pulled in front of me and I t-boned them at approx. 50-55 mph. Neither the front driver or passenger air bags deployed. Said vehicle now totalled. Contacted Chrysler, filed a claim. They sent a "special investigator" that tried to tell both the body shop owner (who was on scene of accident) and my husband that the accident happened differently than it actually did. The investigators contact at Chrysler, roy porterfield, then explained to me that he thought the accident happened differently than it did. He told me that the airbags weren't supposed to go off unless it is a full frontal impact. This accident was a full frontal impact. I hit the steering wheel in said accident and after three weeks am still in pain and not fully able to return to work.
While driving at unknown speed a tractor trailer made a sudden stop and ajeep rearended the vehicle. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed, driver suffered bruised arm. Damage to vehicle unknown.
My daughter's Jeep Liberty rolled. During the roll, the drivers side seat belt released her. There was an eventual frontal impact but no air bags deployed. My daughter was thrown from the vehicle and killed. See annotations for addition follow up information. Cw.
Consumer states vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 50 mph, however only the passgener air bag deployed. The manufacturer was contacted. There was one injury in this accident.
There were no failures. The vehicle was serviced due to recall notice.
While traveling at 35 mph, another driver traveling at the same speed came across in front of consumer's lane and struck front of consumer's vehicle head-on. Upon impact, none of airbags deployed.
Consumer states while stopping vehicle encountered a head on crash. Upon impact, air bags to deployed, igniting consumer's cloths on fire. Consumer sustained second and third degree burns to chest area.
Consumer received two recall notices. 1. Nhtsa recall# 01v373000 concerning air bag failure in December 2003. Consumer contacted the dealer, who informed the consumer the parts were not available. The dealer was supposed to contact the consumer when the parts became available. 2. Nhtsa recall 03v460000 subject concerning lower control arm ball joint failure on 3/2/2004. Consumer contacted the same dealer, who did not have the parts. No reason was given as to why the parts were not available.
