Air Bag Problems of Jeep Liberty - part 1

Airbag light has been coming on and stays on. When I start my vehicle the airbag in the dash on passenger side sounds like it’s trying to escape. Scary. I have a service appointment for April 2, 2026, Thursday. They can’t get me in sooner. I understand the recall doesn’t apply. I’m stating that it should! please expand your recall to more Jeep models. I want this on record as I am deeply concerned about my safety.

My daughter was hit by a semi truck on us-23 today. The trailer fishtailed hit the back end of Jeep. I hit the guard rail. All four corners of the Jeep were hit. The air bags did not deploy. The front driver tire fell off. The back window and passenger side trunk window blew out.

Steering wheel air bag went off on its own. Started the car and pop. Door locks won’t work on drivers door when unlocking with key fob.

Had the car for too years and just now all of a sudden air bag keeps coming on and off in the red.

A couple years ago I had the airbag light come on when you come to find out there was a recall on my Jeep. I had it took to the dealership, they supposedly fixed it now my airbag light is back on.

The contact's husband owned a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag and traction control warning lights would flash on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle hydroplaned while crossing a puddle of water and landed in a ditch. The side curtain air bags deployed; however, the driver and passenger air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that an abnormal odor was emitted from the vehicle. The contact sustained bruising on the left arm but did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. Due to the failure, the vehicle was initially towed to the contact's home and was later towed to an independent tow yard. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact's sister owns a 2012 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that upon opening the door of the vehicle, the contact's sister became aware that the driver's side headrest had deployed. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 17v640000 (seats, air bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for diagnostic testing. A case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

The airbag light came on and the computer indicated it's the clock spring. I know that this is a safety issue as I've had the same issue with a previous car in which it was recalled.

9/18/2023 I had an incident I thought something got behind brake pedal and kept me from pushing the brakes. When I drove it home. Going down the interstate I hit the gas get to speed limit. 3 times the vehicle kept speeding up hitting 80 and still wanting to climb. When I hit breaks hit was hard to press worse then hitting non power breaks and then I forced on the brakes and the vehicle started shaking. And took lot of effort to slow down. This vehicle doesn't have cruise control. Have had cliche with lights radio tac speed air while driving. Non of the air bags went off I checked recall was January to March this Jeep was manufactured 12 2.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving 30–35 mph, the driver's and passenger's side air bags inadvertently deployed but then immediately deflated. No warning light was illuminated. There was no impact to the vehicle that could have caused the air bags to deploy. The air bags deployment caused damage to the dashboard. There was dust coming from the air bags which got into the contact and his passenger's eyes; however, no medical attention was received. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to his residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance due to the age of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

The air bag light has been turning on for no reason I don’t know what’s causing it.

While my vehicle was sitting in our driveway, the ahr for the drivers seat activated. While at the time I had not received a notice " that im aware of" this could have been a very bad ending for this hitting my head while driving. Although the recall showing is for the ahr not working, this one did it all by it self. Not safe.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while his mother-in-law was exiting out the highway, she struck a curb causing the front passenger side tire to blow out. The vehicle lose control and was spinning and struck two utility poles and the vehicle was able to come to a stop. The driver of the vehicle passed away on impact and the passenger had to seek medical attention and was taken to the hospital. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was deemed totally loss. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

Horn stopped working. Tested actual horn another way and it operates properly but when driving it does not work someone mentioned it could be the clock spring. Is this covered under warranty or other reports of this malfunctioning for a recall?.

Air bag warning light comes on from time to time. I wonder if the air bag system is working properly. Almost every other Jeep Liberty before and after my VIN number was recalled, just not a very small group of vehicles my Jeep is in.

The air bags didn't deploy at all. I slide on an icy bridge at 35 mph and slammed into the concrete bridge barrier. None of the airbags deployed. The Jeep was put on a scope 2 1/2 weeks before the accident with no codes read. I have severe whip lash and muscle strains in my back, neck, shoulders, and arms from the impact. I could have died. No, the problem wasn't reproduced or confirmed. The police have looked at and insurance company will be looking at the vehicle. There were no warnings at any kind prior to the failure.

The airbag deployed while driving down the road. Was unaware of the recall. Dealer said they can not fix because the airbag already deployed. Had minor physical injury to the left arm but definitely mental distress. Air bag light came on which it had before then 30-60 seconds later airbag deployed without warning.

Airbag light goes on and off. Is not throwing a code on advanced scan tool. Also at times does not recognize the key has been removed from the ignition, and that appears to be a fault with the ignition key pin in the housing which Chrysler wants $1,000 or more to replace the ends tire steering column. What the hell do y'all guys even do because these problems exist all over the internet. Do y'all get kickbacks or make deals with the car companies because it seems not have to do anything with the safety of the equipment that is being sold.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bags needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed of the cost to replace the air bags. The contact was informed to call the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that he was not the original owner and the manufacturer denied repair. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated upon crashing into the vehicle before her, the air bags exploded and propelled burning chemicals. The contact sustained burns on her chest, breast, her right leg and on her left hand. The contact was transported to the hospital by emergency units and was diagnosed with chemical burns. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 212,000.

The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph going through the green traffic light her vehicle had been hit by another vehicle in the intersection passing a red light. The contact stated that her vehicle was hit head on , however her airbags did not deploy. The contact stated that a police report was made, and her vehicle was towed. The contact stated that the ambulance was dispatched to the scene to evaluate her , and had determined that she was okay at the time and did not have to go to the hospital. The contact stated that she only suffered from a few bruises. The contact stated that she has not contacted the manufacturer nor the dealer at this time. The mileage failure was 200,000.

Airbag light is on. Right front passenger door won’t lock or unlock automatically. Left front aux light inop. Not bulb related. Right front aux light goes off when right turn signal is activated.

Airbag was replaced sept 2019. I just had to replace coil spring again in the airbag very costly.

The airbag deployed on my wife that was in her third trimester pregnancy while driving on the highway, which left the baby and my wife at risk. She was sent to the emergency for abdominal trauma. Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or ram dealer were unable to locate a recall number for the Jeep airbag system occupant restraint control (orc) module. It was a very long process and Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or ram dealership located on I-10 kept giving us different responses about our airbag being at the dealership and then later finding out that they did not have the airbag in stock. The dealership offered $500 to keep the vehicle, but I refused and just wanted them to repair the airbag. The dealership kept calling us to pick up the vehicle and in order to do that, we would have to get it towed to where we lived. Luckily, a staff member at the dealership informed us that if we were to pick up the Jeep at that time then we would be fully responsible for it and could not hold the dealership accountable if something worse happened. Instead of following through with towing it, we did our own research and discovered that there were several similar testimonies about this issue for the same year make and model, (2003 Jeep Liberty). We called corporate several times and they were unable to locate the recall number nor give us a solution. After several months had passed, we finally received a recall number via text and email from mopar. Com. ( fca recall # r06). We then contacted the dealership with the recall number and confirmed that this was an issue that needed to be taken care of. They took several months to locate an airbag and finally repair the orc module. Once the vehicle was ready for pick up, they did not exactly walk us through the vehicle and new parts installed. The Jeep was in poor condition; it was left outside, uncovered, and paint is now peeling. Seatbelts do not spring back, dash lights are dim and steering is screeching, engine light is on. This took a total of 8 months.

Jeep died while driving on the dash it said no fuse then my battery died also my alternator I still haven't been able to fix it because I don't know where to look we took it to a mechanic and he replaced the alternator 5 times and still has issues.

However, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. No injuries sustained. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while at an intersection. The driver's airbags deployed without warning. The contact managed to drive the vehicle to Jeep ft walton 541 mary esther cut off NW, fort walton beach, FL 32548 (888) 717-7554 where it was diagnosed and determined that the orc module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle is undrivable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the defect was not believed to be the caused of the failure regarding the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 184,000. The parts distribution disconnect. Ck.

While turning from a green light I was probably going maybe 5-10 mph both my driver and passenger airbags both went off and man those things hurt badly but there was no car collision or anything they just went off out of the blue and there was a lot of smoke and left my ears ringing and parts of the dash came apart.

Driving 25 mph on my way home airbag deployed without collision jut deployed with no reason!!.
