A wiring harness in my 2002 Jeep Liberty fails every year or so - this disables the abs brakes and causes the speedometer to wander and be inaccurate. The dealership has replaced the harness 3 times (out of warranty) at a cost of about $200 each time. My abs system is disabled from the time the harness fails until I get it fixed. The abs light and brake light illuminate on the dash when it fails - and stays on until the repair is done.

I had driven my Jeep Liberty for about 10 miles and parked it in my driveway at about 6 pm on wed Aug 15,2007. At midnight, I went to let the dog in and saw flames coming from the front passenger side of my car. I called the fire department . The whole front of the car was burned up. The car is totaled. I later found out there was a recall issued on that car for a defect in the ac blower motor. I was not using the ac that day.

Car would start and die off after 1-2 minutes ( as in lack of fuel). There had also been electronic throttle control warning light flashing occasionally. To re-start, the fuel primer (located on filter head) had to be pumped. I read on www. Lostkjs. Com forum in the crd section that air might leak into the filter head, causing these symptoms. I noticed that the fuel heater plug located in the filter head was moist. I pulled the plug and heard a air-sucking sound. The plug contained a male part of what is obviously a burned-out fuel heater, which has made a hole into the filter head. . Read more...
2005 Jeep Liberty crd diesel engine started running sporadically. Smell of burning plastic and diesel was present inside vehicle. Pulled over and opened hood, to find boiling diesel steam coming from heater electrical port on fuel head. Plug was discolored with heat. Drove home, ordered new fuel head and replaced with new oem part. 2 months later, the engine started stumbling while driving on the highway and died on highway. Coasted to side of road, managed to eventually restart, and made it home. Opened hood and found leaking fuel head, from heater socket, diesel fuel draining from plug port at rate of about an oz per minute. Electrical plug was burned up, pins electrical pin on inside of fuel heater port destroyed.

My 2005 Jeep Liberty was running rough, so I pulled over to investigate. I opened the hood, but couldn't see much in the dark. I went around to the passenger side to retrieve a flashlight and as I opened the glove box, I saw flames from under the vehicle. I reached to shut the hood and then called 911 for the fire department. Unknown reason for the start of the fire. Other notes: I had previously filled the tank earlier in the day. In July the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service and a factory recall on the emissions system. Months earlier the car had been taken to the dealer for routine service and I complained of a fuel odor, which they were unable to identify.

2002 Jeep Liberty was being towed behind motor home, alerted by passing motorists I pulled over and got out of the RV. Smoke was poring out of the Liberty fire trucks arrived just as flames were shooting out of engine compartment. . They managed to free the Jeep from the motor home and used fire hoses on the Jeep. . Jeep is a total loss. . As yet no explanation for cause of fire.
I returned home late on evening after an evening of shopping, dinner, & movie. I parked my car in the garage and ten minutes later heard a loud "whoosh" sound. I went to the garage to investigate and saw white smoke. After opening the garage door to dissipate the smoke I looked around the car. I did not see any problem with the tires or leaking fluids. I did see black singe marks along the edge of the hood and black dust over the hood. The fire department & sheriff were called. The firemen determined that a fire occurred under the hood of the car and, miraculously, put itself out. They also determined that a loose wire was arcing with the alternator and disconnected the battery. They ruled the cause of the fire as faulty electrical wiring. The car is 3. 5 months old with just under 3000 miles on it. My brother-in-law, who is a retired mechanic, went with me to the dealership to pick up my things from the car and get a loaner car. He could see that the line going from the compressor ruptured during the fire. He speculated that the "whoosh" sound I heard was ac refrigeration escaping when the line ruptured and that the fluids extinguished the fire. I am waiting for an inspector from Chrysler to look at the car. I have an incident file open with Chrysler, #12193081. I also have the report from sheriff. Since this just happened, no resolution has been determined.

Our 2002 Jeep Liberty limited with less than 1500 miles caught fire on the right side and proceeded to burn completely. My 5 year old son was in the passenger seat. By the time we saw the smoke and fire, he tried to get out but the door was too hot to open. I grabbed im, opened the drivers door and ran for safety. We were turning around on a gravel road and had entered some lite mud and lite, wet grass beside the gravel road and we were pulling a brand new very lite trailer with three small dirt bikes on it. The fire was so hot that the new trailer hitch melted and was fused to the trailer neck. My 5 year old son's bike which was on the right side of the trailer was burned and melted to the frame. My son and I were fortunate to get out alive.
