Drivers side door lock and rear view mirror control does not work at all. Seems to be the wiring that goes thru the door into the body. This is a safety hazard. Not possible to get a photo due to the covering of the wires cannot be opened.

Daughter pulled out of driveway turned left onto street and immediately heard a loud noise and observed the entire dashboard instrumentation panel light up. Wipers came on, doors locked, engine cut off, alarm went off, wiper fluid started spraying and smoke started pouring from under the hood. Fortunately she was able to unlock the doors and get out of the vehicle. Electrical wiring was still smoking 45 minutes after the power finally drained from the battery. Tow truck refused to move the vehicle until a mechanic came to disconnect the battery. Local shop said all the electrical circuitry was burned up or compromised, including the wiring harnesses, ground wires, fused box, tipm, etc. Took vehicle to dealership where it was pronounced unfixable. Insurance company will not cover since fire damage was confined to electrical circuits and Jeep Chrysler sent an investigator to inspect the damage and compensation was denied.

While driving to work my engine just quit as I was shifting from 4th to 5th gear. I coasted off to the side of the highway and saw smoke coming from under the hood. When I lifted the hood, there were flames shooting up from everywhere! the biggest flames were near the side of the battery, but not on the battery so I shut the hood and moved away from the vehicle. Within the 5 minutes it took the fire department to arrive, it was completely burned up, including the front panel inside the Jeep. Any part of the front of the vehicle that was not metal, was gone. . . Burnt!! as of this time, it is still unknown to me what caused the fire but Chrysler sent an investigator out to view the vehicle and sent me a letter stating they would not be doing anything about it. I believe it was a wiring problem and have never had anyone work on any of the wiring since I purchased the Jeep in 2010. I have no invoices to show repairs( as vehicle is totaled beyond repair), insurance( it did not cover a non collision fire) or etc. . . Just pictures and a fire report, if you want those.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Liberty. While driving approximately 55 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the gauges became inoperative. In addition, the windshield wipers, headlights, and turn signals illuminated intermittently. The dealer diagnosed that the wiring cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000. The VIN was not available.

I own a stock 2007 Jeep libery with the 3. 7l v6 and automatic transmission. While driving home the vehicle shut off unexpectedly on a busy five lane 50 mph road. As I coasted into a driveway I saw heavy dark black smoke pouring from under the hood. As I opened the hood there was 5-6 inch flames on most of the stock wiring under the hood. The positive cable that runs under the engine rubbed under the engine until it shorted on the grounded engine block shorting out the electrical system. The fire department showed up and put out the fire and cut the negative cable to stop the outbreak of another fire. All of the cables are now melted and burned together. The repair estimate is close to $5000 without fixing what actually caused the problem, just fixing the melted wires. The fire was started by stock wires on a stock vehicle. The vehicle was taken to parkway before we bought it and went through completely "fixing anything and everything that was wrong or bad with the vehicle. " they clearly missed this major problem that could have killed two teenagers. I have already contacted Chrysler about this problem and they told me this was not their fault. I believe it is, and I want to fix the problem before it does kill someone. I am open to phone calls, I am open to emails anyone you want to contact me would be perfect. I can meet you at the dealership or anywhere you please. I will travel, tell me what actions need to be done and they will be done. There is a lot more of information that can be obtained and will be avalible on demand.

There was an electrical fire that appeared to originate in the driver's side rear tail light and migrated to the bumper and wiring inside the bumper.
When placing the key in the ignition no crank, no start, wiring harness and central sending unit replaced, and returned to me 2/28/2014 a Friday afternoon upon receipt or SUV from dealership repair returned home will not shift out of park and dash lights illuminate ie esp and antiskid it appears as though the car does not recognize the key and will not allow the car to shift from park care returned to for repair 03/03/2014 apparently some type of relay and sensors have malfunctioned and "smoked" per the dealer in the dash and steering column.
I have a Jeep Liberty (2004, 2wd, v6) and have a problem with the headlights turning off for a second and then back on for no apparent reason. When this happens the relay can be heard opening and closing. Unfortunately I have not been able to find an accurate electrical schematic (the one in the hayes book does not seem to agree with the wiring in the car). Vehicle indicated that passenger front door was ajar, this after ten minutes of driving. Door was in fact not ajar. Passenger opened and closed door just to check, door then would no longer fully close. Pulled manual lock to see if it was stuck, whole piece came out. Smoke started pouring out of hole and door metal was very hot to the touch. Removed door panel to put out fire inside. Lock actuator motor melted down and parts were smoldering. During this process the electronic back glass popped open as well and will no longer latch either. Chrysler recalled some 2004 Liberty's for these motors overheating and seizing, was informed that this vehicle was not included and that we should have 'maintained the wiring in the door'. This vehicle is meticulously maintained!.
The abs control module alerts there is a problem with the abs system randomly while driving. We were told there is a recall f50, NHTSA campaign id #06v49300, regarding this from our local mechanic. We had the vehicle serviced on 07/30/2012 at a authorized Jeep service center dealership regarding this problem, module and associated wiring were replaced at our cost. This didn't fix the problem. We didn't resolve the issue any further until now, since we were not satisfied with our experience at this service center dealership. Today we contacted another local authorized Jeep service center dealership and the daimler Chrysler recall center regarding the n46 recall [gasoline storage tank assembly/hitch] and the previous f50 recall. Both said the f50 recall is not associated with for our VIN. However, after doing some further investigation on the NHTSA website it seems the f50 recall is assigned to 2007 Jeep Liberty 2wd only. Therefore, it appears that this may be the reason our vehicle is not eligible for the is recall and we must now pay out of pocket again to fix this major safety hazard. We have schedule an appointment with an authorized Jeep service center dealership for them to reprogram the abs electronic control unit per the remedy assigned to NHTSA campaign id #06v49300 at our own expense. The purpose of this complaint is to notify you that this problem is also on the 2007 Jeep Liberty 4x4wd and if you could please correct/add 4x4wd VIN numbers to this recurring problem so that possibly we may be eligible for reimbursement from Chrysler. Thank you for looking into the matter. Don mills 586-337-2775.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the abs and traction control lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who replaced the entire wiring harness but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
1) wiring harness failed--rear lights not operable/functional. Vehicle crash possible because car not visible by other drivers at night. 2) gear shift sticks causing inability to put car in park. Roll-away imminent. Causing crash.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The contact was driving 65 mph when the front end started to shake abnormally. In addition, the vehicle stalled several times and sporadically, would fail to start. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer replaced the electrical wiring harness. The repair did not remedy the stalling or shaking failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.

My brake light is not functioning. I went to dealership to have them replace bulb, but the dealership checked bulbs and bulbs were good. The dealership has notified me that there is a wiring issue with the brake lights. This is definitely a safety issue. If my brake lights fail during the day or night this could be a huge liability to Chrysler. I have to go back to dealer when I have more time. They said that they did not have time to fix it today. I hope that this is taken care of ASAP. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Speedometer stopped working. Have spend >$1750 trying to find the source of the problem. Replaced speed sensors, and some wiring. Had vehicle in to Jeep dealer as well as other mechanics. . . . No solution.
Emergency brake cable was to close to speed sensor cable and rubbed through causing cruise to surge & speedometer to 0 mechanic told me it was poorly designed. It was acting up for about 2 weeks before it failed completely.
2004 Jeep Liberty sport has loss of power and is quitting customer states that he has had multiple parts fixed and replaced and now the vehicle has the same failure problems as last year. ** the consumer has had 2 fuel pumps replaced, a wiring harness in the firewall, cruise control sensor replaced, the entire module replaced, ball joint replaced and now the vehicle is losing power and quitting again. The consumer further stated that the speedometer and tachometer both are going crazy.
Fuel was observed leaking through an electrical fitting on the water separating fuel filter. I have heard this is a common issue with the 05/06 Jeep Liberty crd.
I purchased a new 2007 Jeep Liberty and the vehicle did not come from the factory with a trailer hitch or wiring harness. On June 14, I had the dealer install the Chrysler recommended harness. The harness they installed is the one Chrysler supplies and requires for vehicles with an overhead console, which my vehicle is equipped with. It is a seven-way harness, specified as mopar part number 82207248. After the harness was installed by the dealer, I noticed that the running lights on my trailer were not working. I took it to a dealer who tried several times to fix it, but was unsuccessful, even with advice given by the Chrysler technical hotline. When I called chryslers hotline to see if it was possible to fix, they told me they provided the dealer with the information to correct the problem and that it was not their problem, but the dealers. They suggested I take it to another dealer. In light of the fact that two Chrysler dealers were unable to solve this problem already, suggesting that I go to yet another dealer was very poor advice. The service I received from both dealers was excellent, however, the Chrysler hotline personnel were very rude to me, had no concern in regard to correcting the problem, and placed blame on the dealers. The problem is that this harness will not work as required for the 2007 Jeep Liberty. Although the brake lights and turn signals work, the running lights on the trailer do not. I request that all 2007 liberties that have the dealer installed trailer package with the mopar harness number 82207248 be recalled and fixed. This problem is a serious safety issue and one for which Chrysler needs to find a fix, rather than continuing to place blame on the dealers.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph on a city street, the engine stalled, and all four doors locked and unlocked without warning. Afterwards, the engine restarted. The vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the wheel and speed sensor of the brakes needed to be replaced. Afterward, the problems persisted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for further inspection who determined there was a rainwater leak along the driver side door and the rear hatch that corroded the electrical wiring harness. The wiring harness was replaced as well as a new rear hatch seal to prevent further leaking. The manufacturer was alerted.
My Liberty has 3 recalls, 2 having do with big safety issues- fire and tires detaching. I first called planet Dodge (miami, FL) for service appt. ; gave VIN and advised of recalls- surprise! when I arrived for my appointment; they said the parts were on back order! today I called tamiami Jeep to make an appointment and was told 1) it's very dangerous as tires may detach 2) they have some parts, but not some bolt, if that is required! question- if these are mandatory recalls and on such potentially safety compromising parts- how can the parts be on back order for 3 months!! (this will be my first visit to tamiami for service appt-but was already advised not all parts available- what's the use of making a appointment if they is a nationwide of a part to repair a recall? what happens if my tires detach or my car has "underbody fire" as per my most recent notice? I would appreciate a reply via email and I would like somebody to investigate how service departments can run out of parts that have mandatory recalls. I was not told at planet Dodge how serious this was and have been driving around waiting for the parts to arrive. (lower ball joint).
While driving 2006 Jeep Liberty limited esp/bas light came on and also charging system warning light. Took to dealership they said powertrain control module needs update reprogram, also was a recal to program bcm. Got Jeep back next day, light came back on plus the malfunction indicator light, took back to dealership they had for 2 days called and said they could not find a problem with it. Said it was due to the way I drive and use the brake pedal. Problem not fixed. Jeep has 10000 miles on it now. When it only had 1750 miles all the panel lights came on and the vechicle shut down, had to be towed to dealership. They had to replace cluster, bcm and pcm per star line, repair short in radio wiring harness, also repair burn in 02 sensor wiring harness, reroute harness. And now they say there is nothing wrong with it, to pick it up in the morning.
Vehicle parked in driveway for approximately one hour, when neighbor notified that car was on fire.
Speedometer sensor wiring was found rubbed into by the emergency brake cable at the rear differential. This was first indicated by an erratic speedometer indication and then total loss of indication. Problem repaired by owner including relocation of cable relative to brake cable location.
The speedometer quit and the engine shut down. This happened while driving. The consumer has taken vehicle to the dealer multiple times for this problem. They have replaced the rear out put sensor at least ten times. The most recent time this occurred was on 8-8-05. The problem occurred at a variety of speeds. There are no other known problems with the vehicle at this time. During the last repair the dealer replaced the rear wheel speed sensor in the wiring harness.
-the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. While driving approximately 35 mph, an increase in acceleration occurred without warning. The vehicle was able to slow down after force was applied to the brake pedal. The engine was turned off for a few moments. The engine was restarted and was able to resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure was contributed to the turbo charger faulty wire with a loose connection. The computerized system was reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunctions. The failure mileage was 67. The current mileage was 25,990 updated 6/1/10 updated 06/04/lj the consumer stated while driving, the engine revved at a high rpm and almost caused him to have an accident. He jammed on the braes because he was approaching stopped traffic. The consumer soon pulled over to the side of the road and heard the accelerator pedal pop loose and back into position. Prior to the incident, the check engine light illuminated and the throttle control light kept flashing and stayed on after the incident. The dealer stated a loose wire caused the problem. Updated 09/02/jb the consumer stated the dealer sent him a check for the last problem. Updated 09/14/10.
Hello, I purchased this great SUV in sept 2003. So far have had to bring it into dealer 7 times for electrical system (wiring) repairs. They could not get remote entry to work , so they ordered a part, then still would not work so ordered a new computer. Then in a few days, the driver's door lock stopped working, so brought it in. They had to order another part, so had to come in 2x for that one too. Then the right rear window would not work, so they replaced the regulator. Now lights on indicatorwhen the door is open is not working and neither is the autolock feature after the car is driving for a few minutes, so have to visit them again. Dealer told me that wiring had some rust in it due either to factory carelessness (wiring harness left out in weather) or flood in vehicle. There is no record from carfax of flood to this vehicle. Dealer said may need to replace entire wiring harness (2-3 days in shop) which is ok with me if it will fix problems. He said he can't do it unless it starts acting up. Afraid when it will start acting up will be when warranty expires. Would like service dealer (courtesy Chrysler/Jeep of casselbery, FL) to replace wiring harness before something else happens. They have been really great every time I've brought it in. I understand they can't replace the wiring harness without a symptom, but there have been lots of symptoms at this point. Thanks for your time, susan atherton.
Speed sensor wire at rear differential was chafed due to close proximity to brake line to left rear wheel. The braek line contacts at the base of the conenctor where not plastic armor protects the wire. Conductors are exposed and ground on the the brake line, causing speedometer to give erratic or no readings. Most evident with passengers or a load in the rear, caousing the wire to contact the brake line. Erractice speed data also effects automatic transmission shifting, causing sharp and abbrupt shifts to lower gears at speed.
