19 Wiper problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/19/2018

Bought the vehicle in va on 2/19/18, driving home to me and after 50 miles in rain the horn started going off every time the wipers moved. Pushed the horn button and the washer fluid started squirting out. Was able to pull over and had to shut the Jeep off then was able to continue. Stopped in CT for gas and got back on the interstate and the all lights turned off on the outside but all the dash warning lights turned on, wipers turned on, horn turned on, washer fluid sprayer went continuously and the motor would stop and start on its own, while moving! luckily, made it to the side of the road and turned the ignition off but all electrical components continued to go off randomly then the car would not restart. After turning the key on and off multiple times, moving the shifting lever, pulling fuses from the panel under the hood and putting them back in it started running again. This happened a second time about 100 miles later. Was able to get the car back to me but after I shut the Jeep off and started it back up the horn and wipers started going off without any switches being touched. Looked this issue up online and found that this is a very common problem for Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler vehicles made in and around this time. Had a recall been done I would have known this was a possible issue and been able to make a better choice of a car to buy for my daughter. There was a real danger of getting into an accident when all of the lights went out while driving in the rain on a busy interstate and then the motor turning off and on while in traffic.

While driving on x way at 70 mph heard noise and saw section of roof slider lifting up and air gushing. Slowed to pull off and whole panel lifted up and almost blew off. Stopped and panel crashed down with front corner coming into passenger side seat. Fortunately no one was in the seat! we taped the panel down to nurse it home on side street at under 40 mph. Dealer said would cost more than $1000 to fix, probably more and repair would not be guaranteed. We cannot afford to fix. We never used the slider in the past. Inquiries on internet reveal many similar incidents by other owners and their attempts to repair with estimates over $3000. Definitely a serious issue. 35 Wiper problem of the 2011 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

The heater core on the Liberty became partially blocked. The heater core is not serpentine in design. Instead, it has a series of pipes that connect the tanks on both ends. The problem is that the bottom of the heater core plugs up. Water can still pass through the upper pipes, however. So the top half of the heater core gets hot and the bottom half does not. The hazard here is that the way the heater core is positioned in the air box, the air that blows over the top half goes to the passenger side. So the air that goes to the driver side of the car is the air that blew over the cold, bottom half of the heater core. This is dangerous because the driver side of the windshield can't be defogged/defrosted and if you are driving along and a snow event starts, you can quickly lose visibility. This has been an ongoing problem, and I've been able to get a little bit of heat back by doing a standard coolant flush. I've had to flush it twice a year every year, however, since right about the time the warranty expired. According to the owners manual, it shouldn't need flushed anywhere near this often. And the coolant is usually pretty rusty when I flush it. A quick scan of the internet tells me that I'm not the only person having this heater core plug problem and after talking to my local Jeep dealership I've discovered this problem is fairly common.
