Jeep Wrangler owners have reported 14 problems related to air bag on-off switch (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Wrangler based on all problems reported for the Wrangler.
Received notice from Jeep that a recall was in effect for the airbag sensor switch located somewhere within the front bumper. . The switch maybe disconnected at time of impact and not message the air bags to deploy. . . The hard rock addition Jeep has an access port located within the front bumper specifically for the purpose of installing a winch/winch plate. . . Dealership advised it would cost additional 100 dollars to repair the recall as the winch would have to be removed partially or in total. . . Contacted customer service / case management at Jeep corp and was advised it would not cover the cost to remove the winch that it was more or less between the dealership and me. . My thoughts are that the bumper was designed by Jeep to install a winch inside the bumper with top and front removable plates and that they are responsible regardless. . . .

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 50 mph, another vehicle switched lanes in front of the contact and abruptly depressed the brake pedal. As a result, the contact crashed into the rear of the other vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. A dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,800.
I was involved in a front end motor vehicle collision, with another motor vehicle incident, to wit the front driver side airbag never deployed appropriately. where in which I received injury from the collision accident. as a result of the collision incidents, I further inquired with the dealership service departments maintenance personnel, and was informed, that the deployment contact switch located on the front of my 2015 Jeep Wrangler, was located in the front grill area, and not located in the front bumper area. recently back in the fall of 2016, I received notice from fiat Chrysler Jeep corporation. That my 2016 Jeep Wranglers airbag deployment system had a recall issue. Which further stated, let airbag deployment systems ranging back to 2012 Jeep Wranglers, extending to 2017 Jeep Wranglers. please be advised that as a result of my 2015 Jeep Wrangler collision which ended up in a total loss. I had to pursue another vehicle, hence my 2016 Jeep Wrangler, airbag deployment system recall notice. further be advised, that when I had to shop again for another motor vehicle, to wit my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I had asked the dealership sales person, if the airbag deployment system had ever changed from the 2015 Jeep Wranglers, to the 2016 Jeep Wranglers? where in which I was informed that the same airbag deployment systems in the 2015 Jeep Wrangler's were the same in the 2016 Jeep Wranglers. where, given the fact that motor vehicle airbag recalls by other manufacturing companies, are being called into question? it is my contention, that the 2015 Jeep Wrangler airbag appointment system then I had owned at the time of the collision, was defective as well. please feel free to contact me anytime regarding this issue, or anything else related to this issue. Respectfully submitted .

While stopped at a light, my Jeep's airbag light came on and the warning ding sounded. The light would regularly switch off and on again, every time accompanied by the warning ding when the light turned back on. The light is pretty much always on now, and the warning ding only sounds when I start the vehicle. I had the airbag warning checked out at the local Jeep dealership and they have confirmed that the clock spring has failed. The clock spring appears to be a faulty design; Chrysler issued a voluntary recall after a previous NHTSA investigation (pe11019) but the same part/design is used from 2007 through 2012 in Jeep Wranglers.

Air bag light continuously illuminated, determined clock spring in the steering column was defective. Chrysler has a recall for right hand steering 2009 Jeep Wranglers and has extended warranty to repair 2007 Jeep Wranglers with this issue yet has done nothing for other affected models. The failure of this part can result air bags not deploying during an accident. This is a safety issue that puts all customers at risk. Whether the steering is right hand, left hand, 2007 or 2009, they are all affected yet Chrysler chooses the same path as gm and their ignition switch issues by recalling or extending warranties to only fix those that they are forced to fix at the expense of the safety of their other customers who have the same defective part in their steering columns. Does the NHTSA condone this action? Chrysler is clearly aware of the safety issue and should be held accountable should anyone or if anyone has already been injured or killed by this defective part.
Airbag light on, airbag has never deployed. Understand this is in ongoing problem resulting in recall on some Jeep models. Was told that airbag is functional but switch goes off saying it needs to be replaced.

Airbag light came on unexpectedly and kept switching on and off for more than 500 miles. I took the vehicle to the dealership this week and they said it was a clockspring. The service advisor said they see them coming back "all the time" and he just had one the previous day on the 2008 Wrangler. I see that other years have been recalled - but as of yet Jeep has not recalled this specific year (they even recalled right hand drive versions for this year but not for left hand drives). I paid for the repair as it seems dangerous to drive the vehicle with a faulty airbag.
Why would you install a non protected/enclosed clock spring switch in a Jeep which is made for off road, is a convertible which is exposed to dust and weather. So I can buy and have new parts installed after each outing, and also have the possibility of an accident with out the protection of an air bag???.
I took my wife's 2007 Jeep Wrangler jk (4 door automatic) to courthouse shell here locally to get the state inspection done (my first time for this since purchasing it on July 1st 2012 from checkered flag Toyota in greenbrier). I received a call saying that the horn did not work, what did I want to do? my wife had said that it had been working the previous week. Well, I said that I want it fixed. The mechanic showed me that the fuse in the fuse-box was not getting any power and they needed more time to troubleshoot it, so they kept it overnight, they then incorrectly said it was a simple relay which they would order and receive later that second day, and they finally figured out that the air bag and the horn were incapacitated due to a faulty $269 airbag clockspring assembly which had to be special ordered from a dealership, so they ended keeping it over the weekend, the steering wheel had been disassembled and would cost more in labor to reassemble. Another option given that he explained to me that he could run a jumper wire to a pushbutton switch to make the horn work but the airbag would not be guaranteed to function as needed in an accident. I made the safe decision to have them replace the entire assembly. I was quite upset though to have to dish out $389. 75 total for parts and labor. I have the receipt to show it in the event that Jeep ever decides to recall that flimsy and unsafe assembly. There seems to be many complaints lodged regarding this same issue online. Considering that this issue not only affects the horn but also the airbag system which was unknowingly disabled for a week or so, the safety of the driver should always be paramount. Thank god that my wife did not have an accident, the airbag would most likely not have deployed. I will be taking this up with Jeep.

I have been experiencing electrical problems with my vehicle since I purchased it in November 2010. There has been systemic electrical failures that are getting progressively worse and putting my safety at risk. I have been getting the run around with Chrysler regarding the problems. - I purchased the vehicle brand new from a Jeep dealer in los angeles California. Since being purchased the following components have failed intermittently. Each part simply stopped working while I was driving the vehicle and in order to make them start working again I would have to pull over turn the car off wait a few minutes then turn the car back on (horn, lights, window maser switch, car stereo, car stereo amp, driver's airbag). Once I restarted the car it seemed like the Jeep would reset and the parts would start working again. Jeep has been replacing these items, but they would never root cause the problem. - most recently Chrysler discovered that the fuse box & electrical cluster were defective. It took Jeep 77 days to replace the 2 parts. The worse part is they tried to have me drive the vehicle during those 77 days until the parts became available putting me and any vehicle around me at risk of injury and death. This in my opinion is a serious safety hazard. - while I hope this is the end of my problems. . I think the NHTSA should investigate Jeep Chrysler's electrical cluster and components to ensure that they are worthy of being in vehicles on the road.

: the contact stated the following components failed intermittently, the airbag light illuminated, the speedometer and the tachometer showed no reading. The vehicle does not have to be in motion for the problem to occur. The contact believes the problem may be related to the clock spring, although the vehicle has not been inspected by a local dealer. The turn siganl would not cnacel, the dealer repalced the turn signal switch. Uypdated 03/28/06.

Consumer was driving at approximately 40 to 45 mph when a 1983 Ford, f150 backed out into roadway in front of consumer's vehicle. Consumer had no opportunity to slow vehicle down before it impacted on other vehicle. Passenger's air bag had an on/off switch installed in it due to a child seat, and it was turned off during this incident. However, driver's air bag failed to deploy. Insurance company has examined vehicle, but has not provided any information to consumer about cause of defect. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Intermittent electrical connection at passenger airbag override switch sometimes causes red service airbag light to illuminate on instrument cluster. Hitting the center console near the override switch causes the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster to go out. This is not to be confused with the light next to the override switch that says "off". This light functions normally.
