Jeep Wrangler owners have reported 13 problems related to battery (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Wrangler based on all problems reported for the Wrangler.
My 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited began to have an electrical malfunction with 50,441 miles on it. The alarm sounded, wipers and fluid went crazy, lights flashing, power steering failed, and the car would not stop running even with the key removed. I had to disconnect the battery and tow it to dealership. After $130 they said it was a key fob battery. I reluctantly drove away certain that the issue was not a key fob issue. Sure enough, the next day the same thing happed while sitting in the parking lot at work. I disconnected the battery and about an hour later reconnected and it started. I promptly drove to a more reliable dealership, who diagnosed the tipm module. $607 bucks later it is repaired. Chrysler of course has done nothing but deny any issue with tipm modules, when clearly they have a widespread issue with this part (just google search it). This should be a class action case, if Chrysler will not recall.

I have been in the shop 6 times since Dec 2011 for numerous problems. Now we have had it in the shop 2 times in less then 1 week for it not starting. I have put a ton of money in my postal Jeep and out of work due to this problem. Finally had it towed bc all the lights on the dash came on. I need this for my job and Chrysler could care less. I am beginning to process the lemon law on it. I have put a new battery and cables and had to have it diagnosed 3 times. I am fed up! ( on a sad note I have only owned this car 6 months and have put $3700 in it on what the warranty will not cover.
Windshield wipers and lights failed to work during icy rain/snowy conditions. Road visibility was significantly impaired and I couldn't see my instrument panel. I had no option but to continue home at very slow speeds to avoid an accident. After approximately 20 minutes of driving without wipers, the wipers suddenly turned on by themselves, moving very fast. I could not adjust the wiper speed at all. When I arrived home and turned the Jeep off and removed the keys, wipers still would not turn off. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the wipers. Dealer claims it was a faulty wiper motor. I advised them I think it's a faulty tipm based on what I researched/read online. They assured me the tipm was working fine. When they ordered and installed the new wiper motor, it didn't fix the problem. They then admitted they were wrong with the diagnostic and the tipm was faulty. They advised me that I need a new tipm and that all tipms are on nationwide back order. Seems tipm failure is a recurring theme amongst certain Jeep Wrangler models. If your lights and wipers can go out while operating the vehicle, this is a huge safety hazard. I called Chrysler to complain and have yet to hear back from them.

I went to a Jeep jamboree on the weekend of September 17th and as I was driving to go wash my Jeep my Jeep first speed up and I couldn't get it to slow down then I smelled a burning smell and then dashboard started having trouble lights come on so I got it off the highway as I exited the highway I saw smoke coming from under the hood so I stopped immediately and opened the hood after shutting it off and saw it coming from the main fuse block grabbed some tools to disconnect the battery but by then it started to burn so I poured water on the fuse block put it out and called a tow truck took it to tri star Jeep in uniontown, PA they got it fixed after almost 2 weeks and on the way home it started again and I caught it earlier but this time I had to pay out of pocket. Ever since those 2 episodes it's had lots of electrical problems and it just never stops.

My Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4 dr would not start and would just click once without turning over the engine. The entire dash was bright and functioning and my battery was brand new. After a few attempts the Jeep started as if it was perfectly fine and did not struggle to start neither. Every few weeks to few months it will repeat the same thing over. Also, a few times the dash would show that the Jeep was engaged in every gear. I stepped on the brake and shifted the automatic gear from p to 1 and back to p and the dash retuned to normal. I have a strong feeling my computer or tipm / fuse box is going haywire yet the dealer finds nothing wrong. I just brought it to the dealer for a diagnostic and he found no errors. Why is there no recall on this if there are so many complaints about the same issues for Jeeps from many models and years?? please help! I have read on many posts that dealers have told customers that there are about 300-400 tipms are on backorder so why no recall? my warranty is still good but I'm afraid the dealer will do everything they can to avoid having to honor it as I was pretty much told they could do nothing for me. I'm still paying off the finance and it's not right that I have a lemon on my hands. The worst part about this is that I am in danger of the engine stalling while driving and now I fear my family's life/safety. No one should have to deal with such a dangerous situation.
Vehicle stalls out in traffic, despite battery being fully charged. With a restart, the battery symbol remains illuminated, and eventually the vehicle will stall out again. Occurred in heavy traffic creating traffic hazard. Remains a recurring problem that is only remedied by completely shutting off engine and waiting several minutes, then restarting it and checking to confirm that the battery symbol is no longer illuminated. Sometimes a battery jump-start is required. One dangerous alternative is to turn off the ignition while vehicle is rolling, restarting the vehicle, but obvious hazards of locked steering wheel, loss of control and possible crashes would result.
I put in a new battery in my car at the dealer and it corroded again. They told me they forgot to spray it. I have had cars for 6 years and the battery never corroded. I feel there is something wrong someplace and the dealer is not being honest with me.
Driving to st. James, NY after a weekend in NJ in snowy and cold conditions with new puppy. At 7:00am, about one hour into the drive, while on long island expressway, radio went off, lights flashed on and off, car began to shake and lose power. I pulled off the nearest exit and it stalled as I coasted into a gas station. After about 15 minutes, the car started again, and I tried to drive it to the huntington service center about 8 miles away. The car would not drive over 25 mph, and after about two miles began to shake uncontrollably. I pulled into a parking lot, put the car in neutral and tried revving the engine. Nothing changed and the car stalled. I waited in the cold and snow for aaa to tow me to the huntington service center. Service center communicated to me that the car had nothing wrong with it based on the computer check. That a technician would take it for a test drive with me. The problem didn?t happen on the test drive. Upon return to the service center, I insisted that they continue to search for the problem on the grounds that my car had to be towed in after losing control on the highway. Service manager refused. I asked him to explain Chrysler?s responsibility in the matter and he said in an unkind tone that I could go to arbitration but the problem would have to occur in front of the arbitrator, so it probably wouldn?t work in my favor. Returned to service center at 29,308 miles because the dashboard lights were going on and off while I was driving. Insisted that they find out what was wrong with the car and fix it. Service advisor told me that they would call the Chrysler tech support team to help with solving the problem. They stated that the problems caused on March 3 and March 4 were because the battery was low and the esp was activating prematurely. They stated low battery was causing the power failure and the esp was causing the shaking of the car. Service center replaced the battery and fix the module that controlled esp.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact attempted two or three times before the ignition would start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on four different occasions for the similar failure. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The battery was replaced by an independent mechanic. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was approximately 200. Updated 01/26/lj the vehicle was taken to 3 different dealers a total of 4 times. Updated 02/14/11.
My gauges on the dashboard consistently go to "0" while driving my 1998 Jeep Wrangler. My speedometer, tachometer, battery status, oil, and engine temp all go to the left and the red airbag light comes on. This especially occurs while driving over bumps. It is a huge safety concern because I never know how fast I am going, when I need gas, or if my air bag will deploy in my face or if it will deploy in the event of an accident. There have been so many other reports concerning this same issue that it is incumbent on the government or Jeep/Chrysler to rectify this situation!.
