While driving on the highway at 70 mph (cruise control enabled) the car started surging as if someone were pumping the gas pedal. It did this for approximately 10 seconds then the engine died. I was in traffic and it took a few seconds to figure out what had happened. I was lucky to have a manual transmission because the second I pressed on the clutch I lost all power steering and power brake function. I was in the middle of traffic and cars started passing me on either side. This could have easily led to an accident. I will be taking it in to the dealer ASAP.
I was on the freeway with my cruise control on when my vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly slowed down. I moved my foot to the accelerator and found that the vehicle had substantially less power than normal. When the vehicle slowed, the electronic throttle warning light began to flash and the stability control light came on. After pulling off the road and cycling the ignition, the vehicle returned to normal. I brought it to the dealer and they could find nothing wrong. I searched Jeepforum. Com and found 3 other instances of the electronic throttle having issues.
: the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably while making a turn. The vehicle performed as if it was going to stall and then suddenly the vehicle leaped forward. Applying pressure to the brake pedal prevented the vehicle from moving forward but drastically increased the vehicle's rpm. Sudden acceleration occurred periodically when attempting to stop the vehicle, make a turn, or when the cruise control was engaged. Sudden acceleration has also occurred while the vehicle was in reverse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer five times however they could not determine the cause of the problem. The manufacturer has not been contacted.

Upon starting of vehicle after fueling a 'pop' was heard from the engine compartment and engine stalled. Restarted engine with no difficulty and encountered a high idle speed. Checked to see if linkage was somehow binding or if vehicle had backfired through the throttle body. No evidence of damage due to backfire so proceeded to drive vehicle. After traveling approximately 40 miles of highway encountered a stop light, applied brakes to find that there were none. At that point realized that the sound heard upon starting was that of the vacuum booster hose seperating from the manifold. Noted that neither hose installed at this point are secured with a hose clamp. Reinstalled hose and have had no further occurrence.

1. The transmission has started jumping in and out of 3rd gear in the 32 to 50 mph range. Bubbles are present in the fluid indicating a seal is failing. Repair estimate at this time is over $1000. This failure in snowy driving conditions causes vehicle control problems. 2. Passenger seat belt retracts intermittently. The passenger will lean forward and back may not notice the seatbelt has not retracted. This can certainly cause serious injury or death in the event of an accident. 3. Sudden acceleration at idle. Vehicle idle will jump from 1. 5k to 3k without warning. Obviously a serious safety hazard. 4. Anti-sway bar link failure. This is perhaps the most insidious failure. The stabilizer bar link ball will corrode in the socket and cause it to separate. The rubber boot around it covers the failure. When an emergency turn is required, the Jeep will sway violently. I talked to the Chrysler parts attendant and he said he sells about 12 a week to those lucky enough to notice the failure. For those who do not notice this, it is a time bomb. The parts attendant told me I would be back soon to replace more. What he said is true.
