1 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/18/2020

Beginning of Feb. , lost power on freeway. Went from 65 to 40 mph and could not accelerate. Engine and traction lights came on. Exited the fwy and drove to dealer where I was turned away due to high volume. Left my Jeep at the dealer the following day with this issue and to correct campaign #v51 recall. The engine light wasn't lit anymore and dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it so I picked it up. Couple of weeks later, I failed the smog check I need to register my Jeep, and an engine code showed up, p0394. I took it to other places where the same code showed up and was recommended to take it back to the dealer. Going downhill, my father experienced the same while driving my Jeep. Beginning of March, omw to the dealer on the fwy, I lost power again and the engine and traction lights came on. I showed the dashboard to the service advisor, explained the continued problem and the code showing up. I left my Jeep there for several days because they couldn't reproduce the problem and didn't know what was causing it. The code was cleared when I picked it up. The following day, as I was making a right turn into a parking lot, the engine stalled. I used gravity to partly move back down as there was another car driving into the lot. I put it on "park" and I was able to restart the car. No engine light this time. This morning I lost power driving to the first stop on my street (stop on my side only). I had already entered the t-intersection but could not accelerate to turn left. I put it in "park" then back to "drive" and accelerated normally. There were no cars around because of the corona virus, but I would have been hit on the driver's side if a coming vehicle (who has the right-a-way), decided not to slow down.

2 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

When starting car -especially in cold weather-and backing out of parking area engine will stall/jar and at times die out requiring putting into park and restarting. Concern is if this happens in traffic it will cause an accident not being moved fast enough. There is a warranty on the vehicle and this has been an ongoing issue for 6mo + and is continuously questioned and evaluated. We've been told it has occurred in other Jeeps and there is a fix but this has yet to be corrected for this vehicle.

3 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/27/2019

While approaching a stop-light on several occasions (but not on every occasion), the 3. 6 liter pentastar engine in my 2012 Jeep Wrangler sport has stalled, which causes immediate & complete loss of power-steering & hydraulic brake-power. To restart the engine, I must shift into neutral or park. To put the vehicle back into drive after restarting, the vehicle's computer requires me to come to a complete stop. This is dangerous and disruptive when I'm in traffic and there is not a requirement to come to a complete stop (for instance when the red light turns green while I'm slowing). Furthermore, the engine frequently stalls at low speed in parking lots and also when the vehicle is completely stopped.

4 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

On cold days after the Jeep has been sitting overnight, the engine will stall when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse when the brake pedal is firmly pressed. This happens when the Jeep is started and it makes no difference if the car is running for 30 seconds before it is shifted or running for 3 minutes, the engine will stall when shifting into drive or reverse. If the brake is not firmly pressed the engine won't stall when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse. This causes the Jeep will lurch forward, for drive, or backward, for reverse,.

5 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Engine stalls when put in forward or reverse one or two times in the morning.

6 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

I was driving on an expressway keeping up with traffic when my engine just stalled. Luckily, I was in the outside lane and was able to coast to the shoulder. This has happened before. The first time, the dealer updated the software. The second time, the dealer replaced the power train module. In fact, the day I got it back from the dealer, it stalled again going about 25 mph. Then, the dealer calibrated the throttle. I was told if it happens again, call them and they will have it towed. This is what I did. It was at the shop the next day and they stated it started right up. They are keeping it there and will be driving it with hopes of duplicating the problem. I am lucky that I was able to coast the the shoulder and not get rear ended by another vehicle.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

While operating the vehicle, I encountered severe tightness from the steering wheel. Disabling me to turn left or right, typically on the highway while accelerating. If I was to turn the vehicle's steering wheel for a slight curve or turn the vehicle would remain straight making the vehicle impossible to make the appropriate adjustment. Vehicle was pulled to safety for a reset ( turning off the engine for 5 mins before restarting). Upon accelerating the tightness of the steering wheel began, eventually causing the engine to stall.

The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. Ec.

10 Engine Stall problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

While driving moderate speed on a rural rd (est miles 115k), all red & yellow lights came on, "no bus" light came on which is not listed in the ops manual, windshield wipers came on, rpm gauge went to zero, fuel gauge went to empty, engine light flashing and engine running rough to possible stall. Within a period of time 10 min or so everything came back to normal and Jeep ran ok. This has happen to my wife who is a rural mail carrier on many occasions. In fact in 1 week it happened every day and it has happened many times over a long period. Jeep service folks don't know what is causing the problem as the codes do not pin point the problem. They "think" possibility it could be pwr fuse box, main computer or fwd instrument panel ea at a cost of over $1000 to replace. Service folks want t Jeep brought to them with lights on, gauges zero, engine light flashing but it's an intermittent problem and they are 30 miles or more away depending where the problem happens. Service folks have had the Jeep for a total of 3 days in Jan & Feb and drove it over 150 mile and the problem never appeared. In Feb 2015 while driving (24,171 miles) the engine light came "on" and Jeep stalled in the middle of the road. It was restarted and driven so Jeep was then taken to dealer and they found that a fault code said "wiring does not have enough slack between sensor & wiring causing poor connection". Replaced cam sensor & wiring. Fault cleared. Have photos of dash with "all lights and gauges showing zero and no bus light on and wipers going back and forth. I'll send if you need them but it all lights and gauges which are depicted in the ops manual. This possible engine stalling while driving and possible electrical fire is a safety issue. This problem has occurred over many months throughout 2018.

11 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

I bought my Jeep 12/12/16 and it had 43,319 miles on it. On 2/7/17 at 45,233 miles I had the first engine replacement done. On 5/17/17 at 46,552 miles I had the transmission rebuilt. On 11/1/18 at 65,858 miles I had the second engine replacement. On 3/8/19 at 68,980 miles I had the third replacement engine installed. I got my Jeep back on 4/15/19 and now I hear a ticking like sound and I'm told it could be an exhaust leak. Also, before I got the third engine installed the Jeep would pop out of first gear when I start to accelerate, just like before. I talked to the mechanic who rebuilt my transmission and he said this is a common problem with the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. He said he could fix it, but eventually it will start popping out of first gear again.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/22/2016

This has happened twice, the first time I was on a city street and while driving approximately 40 miles an hour the engine stalled and I lost the power steering and breaking. The vehicle was still moving, I put the vehicle in neutral and tried to restart the vehicle. It would not start. We pulled over and called the dealership. While I was on the phone with them, about 10 minutes later, trying to get it in a position for the wrecker, my wife tried to start it and it restarted. We drove it home and had a wrecker come get it because we were afraid to drive it 20 minutes to the dealership. They felt like is was the fuel pump and replaced it. I picked it up and it drove fine for a few weeks and did the exact same thing except this time I was on the interstate driving about 60 miles an hour and fortunately I was in the inside lane and pulled over. Tried to restart it and after waiting 10 to 15 minutes it restarted again. I drove it to the dealership where it is right now with them trying to determine the problem.

13 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/11/2016

At 91,500 miles the pcm failed for a second time. I am not certain when the first failure occurred, but it was shown to have been flashed previously. This issue surfaced in the form of a stall out at a light. When attempting to accelerate from an idle position the engine stalled. After parking the vehicle, turning over the engine while simultaneously giving it gas, the vehicle turned over. According to three different mechanics this is a common issue among '04 Jeep Wranglers that they have encountered recently (12 years after market and 2 years completely out of warranty). No one can find a replacement pcm because they are no longer manufactured, and it was Chrysler's recommendation that customers experiencing this issue go to a scrap yard to find a replacement (likely to have the same issue). As a customer I am appalled that we are aware of this issue and there have been no recalls. Driving down the highway my battery charged to 20 volts and could have exploded.

14 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/10/2016

My Jeep engine stalled completely. I was taking off from a stop light on a 4 lane highway and it stalled with no warning. I was able to roll to a side road. I waited 5 mins and I was ablet to start it back up, replaced what I thought was the battery. 3 days later was on a busy interstate in downtown miami and it completely stalled again. In the middle of a busy 6 lane highway, I was very lucky to get through the traffic and roll into the median. I waited 5 minutes and was able to start it again. Drove directly to dealership that said it will take weeks to fix. Also have issue with lurching transmission at between 1500 to 1600 rpm. It clunks into the next gear. Also, getting electrical issues with cigarrete lighter. When using a charger in cigarrete lighter the radio does not work, it becomes just static.

15 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/02/2015

While driving home last night during a snow storm at approx. 50 mph the engine stalled and the lights started going on and off. Thankfully I was able to make it to the highway shoulder and stop. I attempted to restart the engine but it would not (the light continued to flicker on and off sporadically, they finally stopped after I turned the emergency flashers on. I tried to restart the engine and it started but the lights started their on and off dance again so I went through the process of shutting it off and managed to get the light to stop by turning the emergency flashers off then on again. After approx. 15 to 20 minute I tried a restart and it started with no symptom's so I was able to drive home with no further incident.

16 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/16/2015

2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara will stall while driving down the road at any given time/speed. Wipers will start going off without turning them on, followed by engine stalling, leaving me unable to accelerate. Meanwhile, my wheels lock up leaving me unable to steer. Very dangerous. Already had the tipm reprogrammed in 2010, and then again 2 days ago. (October 16th, 2015). On the way home from getting it "fixed", wipers go off again and engine stalls. Paid $825 for nothing. This needs to be dealt with.

17 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

My 2007 Jeep jku sahara will completely shut down and stall at any given time while I am driving at any speed. The wipers and horn will go off even when in the "off" position, followed by the engine stalling. My wheels will lock up and I cannot give the vehicle gas. I can only brake and slightly turn off to the side of the road. This is extremely dangerous because there is no telling when it will happen. Recall for tipm has already been "reprogrammed" and apparently there are no power modules available. The dealership told me that if a certain code does not pop up, that I will have to replace everything on my own. Well, how am I suppose to do that when there are no power modules available? this problem needs to be fixed ASAP.

18 Engine Stall problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/23/2015

Went to start car from off position. Engine starts and stalls. Does this 3 times until it doesn't start anymore.

21 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Was driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler to work and I was going about 35mph around a corner and after I got out of the corner the Jeep jerked engine stalled kicked back on then stalled again then died and wouldn't start back up had to have it towed to the mech. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 114,000.

24 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

While driving westbound on the highway to parumph nv the engine stalled out at approximately 65 mph. I was lucky there was no traffic going my direction and the highway way fairly straight. I was able to controll the vehicle well enough to get it to the side of the road without incident. Complete loss of power could have had tragic results under different circumstances. I'm getting rid of this death trap. This happened once before on a trip to searchlight a year ago, engine stall / roughly the same speed. The dealership that repaired it in henderson said it was a faulty maf sensor.

25 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

The problem happened 3 times. Two at very low speeds during the day, and once at night at high speed. The first time it happened, I was driving the Jeep and the engine stalled. It was hard to steer, but I was moving slow. I thought it was a weird fluke. I put the car in park and restarted it with no problem. The second time it my husband was driving, we had just pulled out of our neighborhood and the Jeep stalled. The breaks don't work well, and the steering is difficult. He put the Jeep in neutral and restarted it with no problem. The third time it happened, was on January 10, 2015. I was driving at night with my child on a long trip. I had been driving the Jeep for several hours on the interstate. It happened at around 10:00 pm - it was very dark. I was in the passing lane going about 65 mph when the engine stalled, the headlights went out, all the interior lights went out, dashboard went dark, and I knew from the previous two times, that if I applied the breaks or tried to steer, it would be very difficult. I decided that I didn't want to look down and try to find neutral and accidentally put it in a low gear. So I turned the ignition switch and everything came back on (engine, light inside and out, power steering, and power breaks) while the Jeep was in drive traveling at 65 mph. I took it to the Jeep dealer to have it repaired. They told me that the trans range sensor went bad. My main concern is - why is the engine stalling and Jeep losing all power while moving when the sensor goes bad? there was no warning light to let me know a sensor was bad. Are are all Jeeps designed with this sensor, and will all Jeeps experience the same thing if their trans range sensor goes bad, or was it just something that happened with my specific vehicle?.

26 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

Traveling at 30-35mph I braked and turned quickly to make a left turn across traffic into a parking lot. The engine stalled causing my steering to seize. I had no control of the vehicle except to mash on the brakes which lost power. I was almost hit by cross traffic. I coasted to a stop, hitting a curb and nearly hitting several parked vehicles.

27 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

My Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4 dr would not start and would just click once without turning over the engine. The entire dash was bright and functioning and my battery was brand new. After a few attempts the Jeep started as if it was perfectly fine and did not struggle to start neither. Every few weeks to few months it will repeat the same thing over. Also, a few times the dash would show that the Jeep was engaged in every gear. I stepped on the brake and shifted the automatic gear from p to 1 and back to p and the dash retuned to normal. I have a strong feeling my computer or tipm / fuse box is going haywire yet the dealer finds nothing wrong. I just brought it to the dealer for a diagnostic and he found no errors. Why is there no recall on this if there are so many complaints about the same issues for Jeeps from many models and years?? please help! I have read on many posts that dealers have told customers that there are about 300-400 tipms are on backorder so why no recall? my warranty is still good but I'm afraid the dealer will do everything they can to avoid having to honor it as I was pretty much told they could do nothing for me. I'm still paying off the finance and it's not right that I have a lemon on my hands. The worst part about this is that I am in danger of the engine stalling while driving and now I fear my family's life/safety. No one should have to deal with such a dangerous situation.

28 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/28/2011

Transmission is a standard shift when I let out on clutch the engine will stall. At first I thought because I was not letting out on clutch properly and had to get used to driving it. My boy friend who drives a diesel truck with a standard everyday had the incident happen to him and suggested we take it in for service . Which they said they test drove and concluded no problems many times back to dealership with no luck now I'm out of warranty. The vehicle is very dangerous it stalls all the time when I sit and idle at a red light or a cross road at a stop sign when I let out on clutch it starts rolling fine when clutch is disengaged it will not take the gas then engine will sputter then die. Can someone from your agency test my Jeep please it is going to cause me to get into a wreck. I live in mobile alabama.

29 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

It started with a slight knock in the engine at first start up. It would go away after a few minutes. That lasted about 3-4 weeks. Until one start up the engine would not stop ticking, by the time I arrived home the engine was knocking violently. Oil levels were fine. Had the Jeep towed to the dealership to have the engine inspected, to see if it would be covered under warranty. The tech did an inspection and I was told that the engine spun 2 connecting rod bearings, bent 4 rods, damaged 4 pistons, damage to crank, and almost all oil passages in engine were clogged by metal debris. This was the first time the factory seal on the engine was opened. The dealership contacted Chrysler and told them the situation. I spoke with Chrysler many times over the month span that the Jeep was at the dealership,I also had the dealership fax almost 20 other cases to the claims dept. That I have done research on the same situation and provided the vehicle year, make, and mileage including all of my sources. Chrysler told me that they would not cover the engine repair because of the mileage and that I was not the first owner of the vehicle, the Jeep has 53k on it. No one at the dealership could tell me the reason why this happened, or how I caused the engine to self destruct. I was told by another mechanic that the oil ports inside the engine going to the crank were designed too small, and this is why the crank bearings were failing. I have taken the Jeep to another mechanic, he advised that a new engine should be installed. He tried to order a new engine from his supplier, but was told they are on a national backorder and that it would take about a week to receive a new one. He was told that Chrysler is very aware of the situation and has refused to take any action as of now.

30 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/28/2010

My engine stalls and Jeep wants to turn off. I also am having brake problems rear brakes have been replaced 3 times in only 26,000 miles front brakes still look like new. Have taken it to dealer multiple time but they cant find out why its doing these things.

31 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

My wife and I have experienced at least five (5) incidents where the vehicle engine stalls/kills and either restarts itself or has be manually restarted via ignition key. The symptoms mirror exactly those described in NHTSA action number pe07027. (driving on highway when vehicle dash lights up as if freshly started, and sometimes needs to be manually restarted, and sometimes has restarted itself) the first incident was experienced by my wife in August of 2009, and the vehicle was subsequently inspected by Jeep dealer [xxx] motors of minocqua, WI, who after inspection and road test reported "no trouble found. " (per my invoice dated 8/24/09) at that point the vehicle was under warranty with 33,054 miles on the odometer, and I was charged $35. 25 for that service item. The most recent incident occurred October 14, 2013, and was witnessed by my son. In that case I was driving approximately 75 mph on I-70 approaching I-15 in utah when the engine stalled. The vehicle needed to be manually restarted via key. That was the 3rd incident I've experienced in the past 5 months.

32 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/19/2008

I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler (4) door unlimited rubicon. I did not have more than 150 miles on it before the engine would stall while making a turn at an intersection. The vehicle stalls on a regular basis. The vehicle now has 7000 miles on it and about two weeks ago it stalled on a main city road going about 40 45 miles per hour. Vehicle display showed that it was out of gas but it had â¾ of a tank. After having it pushed off the road, and having 5 additional gallons of gas put in, it started with a very high rpm. The vehicle is now about 8 months old and has been in the shop for about 60 days. Some of the things that have been replaced are: fuel pump, tork converter, and power module. This stalling problem is a life safety liability. The dealership has been good to work with but our family is at risk every time we leave the drive way.

33 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/14/2008

Engine stalls while driving at any speed. The computer module has been reprogrammed but the problem still exists. After the engine stalls, many of the dash lights illuminate including, but not limited to, the esp/bas, brake, oil, battery, ignition, engine, airbag lights. The vehicle will start once the computer has reset and the warning lights dim. I've been to two different dealers three separate times since the problem began with no result.

34 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/02/2008

Driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler about 55 mph when the engine stalled and the dash lights lit up, 5 seconds later it restarted and the dash warning lights went off as normal. Called the local service dept. And an appointment was made but was told it would be "like finding a needle in a haystack" .

35 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

My model year 2007 Jeep Wrangler with the 3. 8l v6 engine and automatic transmission continues to lose engine power without warning. When this occurs, momentary loss of engine power on acceleration or at cruising speed and all interior warning lights in the instrument cluster light up all at once. The radio whether playing a cd or just the radio feature cuts out at the same time this happens. This has occurred whether cruising down the highway or in stop and go traffic. Tonight it happened while sitting at a stop light and when I accelerated on the light changing to green, the engine lost power and all warning lights briefly came on and the radio stopped. The engine never stalled, but lost all power and within a few seconds all worked again. I nearly was hit from behind when they started to move forward through the light. This is a safety concern now that I've almost been in an accident as a result of this condition. I'll be contacting both my Jeep dealer in the morning and daimler-Chrysler about this.
