I own a 2022 4xe, ater the 68c recall the power of the electric drive is limited. Frequent power loss occurs on highway driving during acceleration (merging onto highway or passing other cars). Despite the battery being charged up to 50% there is only 25% power available. The car is a plug in hybrid vehicle. The internal combustion engine starts in these cases with several seconds delay. During that time the vehicle does not accelerate sufficiently to safely merge onto a highway or pass other cars. The power loss happens without warning during critical drive situations like merging onto a highway or passing other cars. The driver expects a continuous level of power by the car, not a sudden power loss. This is reported by countless other drivers on all social media platforms as a consequence of the 68c recall that affects 350 000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and grand cherokee 4xe. Jeep does not respond to customer complaints or requests for clarification. I would like to request all these cases be looked into, and also contacting Jeep for the new parameters put in place to protect the battery, such as battery temperature and power limits put in place to "protect" a hardware issue within a battery with software.

I went to start my Wrangler 4xe today and had a "service charging system" error. The gas part of the Jeep was running, so I proceeded to drive it. I noticed when I came to a stop, the car would not accelerate, then when it did it was violent and bucking. At a stop light it sounded like it was going to stall so I turned it off and then it would not turn back on at all. I finally got it to turn back on and drove it a little further, at one point I went to accelerate and had the pedal all the way to the floor and it would not advance. I brought it to auto zone and had a new 12v battery put in, but it did not fix the issue. After a quick search, it seems like this is a common problem with Jeep 4xe high voltage battery systems. Jeep has recalled the battery at least 3 times now and I've taken it for the first two recalls already. It was extremely distressing to try to accelerate and it not move, and could have seriously been a safety issue if I continued to drive the car. I was in another state, Jeep has no 24/7 service to call other than roadside assistance, so I had it towed to brubaker Jeep in lancaster PA, but I live in virginia and had to rent a car to get home.

When I am driving I will lose power and not be able to drive while I am in the middle of a road driving. And I have to turn my car completely off to let it start back up. The dealership doesn’t not seem to have any more suggestions or recommendations. I feel unsafe driving this vehicle. This keeps happening.

2023 Jeep Wrangler sahara 4xe has been recalled several times for battery potential fire risk issues due to faulty hi voltage battery design. Each time, a software patch was applied to provide a 'fix'. With my engineering background, I am very sensitive to machinery and its behavior. I have noticed with each successive update, the power output of the traction battery has been capped or limited to restrict maximum current draw from the battery to prevent over heating. With the latest 68c recall, there is now a clear safety issue. Power is restricted so much, pulling on a highway is dangerous. As I accelerate, battery output climbs to 50%, the engine comes on and there is a significant pause before acceleration can resume safely. Under battery only acceleration, the car bogs down with loss of power. The 4xe no longer resembles the vehicle I purchased. Jeep needs to do a physical remedy to restore original specs or buy back the car, 100% of purchase price. This is a clear safety issue. While Jeep has tried to fix the fire risk, they have created a new safety hazard.

When driving on the highway the Jeep would not accelerate. At about 60mph no matter how far I pushed the petal down it would only maintain speed. It happened again going much slower on local streets.

Was traveling approximately 55 mph down the highway for 15 min in electric mode. Moved to the shoulder and stopped quickly using regenerative braking for an oncoming emergency vehicle. I got back on the highway and I suddenly lost almost all pedal response and it would not accelerate. I kept pushing the accelerator pedal harder and harder. That's when the ice kicked on and there was a sudden violent lurch forward and the engine was screaming at over 5000 rpm. There were cars approaching behind me and they had to suddenly stop and they honked horns and avoid hitting me. This sudden throttling of the battery/electric and very erratic switch over to ice is dangerous.
1. The vehicle caught fire during normal operation. It is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler (VIN [xxx]) subject to fca us recall 21d / NHTSA campaign 26v363000, which identifies the electric hydraulic power steering (ehps) pump and its wiring as a fire source that can overheat and ignite. The exact failed component has not yet been confirmed by diagnostic, but the fire is consistent with the defect described in that recall. The vehicle is intact and available for inspection — it was towed to waxahatchie Jeep, an authorized stellantis dealer in waxahachie, TX, on June 19, 2026 and remains in their custody under repair order [xxx]. 2. The vehicle caught fire while being driven on the highway between waxahachie and ennis, texas, with two occupants returning from a boy scout trip, my husband, the driver, and our [xxx] son. The driver was forced to take evasive action, steering off the roadway into a service station to get the occupants clear and stop the fire from spreading further. This created a serious risk of burns, of a collision during the evasive maneuver, and of harm to the occupants and other motorists. 3. Has the problem been reproduced…? no. No diagnostic has been performed. The vehicle has been in the authorized dealer’s custody since June 19, 2026 ([xxx]), but the manufacturer has not completed an inspection or diagnostic. The underlying defect is the subject of an active recall (21d / 26v363000) affecting more than one million 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler and gladiator vehicles, for which the manufacturer has stated no remedy is yet available. 4. The vehicle was towed by aaa to waxahatchie Jeep on June 19, 2026 and has remained there since. It has not yet been formally inspected or diagnosed by the manufacturer. 5. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the fire. The first indication of a problem was smoke from the engine area at which point the driver immediately pulled off the road and saw a plume of smoke coming from the exhaust. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S.
Since having the battery recall done in January, my Jeep is a completely different car. In electric mode, it can no longer go up hills without losing significant power to the point where it slows down a lot. I have to manually change it to hybrid mode so that I don't get rear ended. It will no longer quickly and effectively change by itself like it did before the software update. It has also been having issues with power when going around turns or accelerating from a stopped position. In order to go more than 20-25 mph, I have to floor the pedal after completing the turn. This creates a problem when trying to merge into traffic and/or turning into the far lane and crossing traffic to do so. This puts myself and others in danger when trying to merge/cross. I have taken it back to the dealer twice now for power issues and this past time (June 2026), even though the techs could tell there was an issue, Jeep is saying that it's "normal" functioning after the recall update. There is no specific date for this incident, as it happens everytime I drive it. I can no longer trust this car to keep me safe in normal driving conditions.
Water pump failure, with 12,540.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Jeep started on fire and is still at a tow yard in belchertown, MA how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the Jeep started on fire while I was driving. I pulled over as the engine was smoking and then it burst into flames while I was still inside. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not that I know of. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, we gave permission for our insurance agency and Jeep to inspect the burned out vehicle. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? while I was driving, the engine temp and coolant warning lights shot way up and then the engine began to smoke. I pulled over and before I could exit the vehicle, fire was coming into the cab through the air vents.

This is apparently an ongoing problem with all Jeep 4xe's that have passed the 68c recall. The vehicle will no longer operate in "electric" mode in normal driving conditions, this is our second Wrangler 4xe and we have a total in excess of 50k miles of typical driving in "electric" mode. The vehicle will no longer function safely in "electric" mode as it did prior to the recall, it now fails to accelerate for minor hills and slows down to the point of causing following vehicles to come dangerously close to the rear of the vehicle. After a long delay with the pedal now to the floor and the vehicle slowing further as it's trying to go up an incline the ice (gas engine) violently starts and lurches forward in an unnatural manner. The response by stellantis is that this is "normal" operation of the vehicle. I can 100% tell you this is not normal as neither of our 4xe's operated in this manner prior to the recall. I can only imagine what would happen if we attempted to merge into traffic or try to cross an intersection and this "normal" operation happened.
While driving in ev mode my Wrangler 4xe starts to limit power when the battery falls below 50%. The dash display which shows power output clearly starts to limit around 75%, then 50% once the battery hits 40-45% and then even lower as the battery depletes. This makes the car barely powerful enough to hold 50mph and it cannot even climb a hill and hold speed. Then the engine abruptly kicks on in the high 30% battery soc and ev mode is locked out until you charge it or park, turn it off and let it cool off. This is after the latest battery recall that Jeep performed. They seem to be limiting the battery output at lower soc to protect the battery but this means I am no longer able to operate the car I purchased in the way it was designed to originally, the way it was marketed, or even safely on a main road with moderate speeds without the engine kicking on. It is also limiting overall power which means I'm not getting the advertised hp and torque ratings. Jeep needs to do a real fix for the battery issue and not just a software band-aid.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to o'reily's, where a portable diagnostic machine was used; however, no fault codes were retrieved. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was an old warning light. In addition, the contact was informed that the vehicle could be driven. The contact stated that while driving to the residence, the check engine warning light turned off. The failure reoccurred, and the engine seized. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled near the shoulder of the road. The contact became aware of smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that a good samaritan stopped and assisted the contact. The contact and a good samaritan became aware of fire coming from the engine compartment near the battery. The good samaritan attempted to extinguish the fire with a sweatshirt, then used a jug of water from inside the vehicle. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to the local tow yard. The carvana dealer where the vehicle was purchased was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to a repair shop assigned by carvana. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

1. The vehicle has experienced multiple safety-related defects and is available for inspection upon request: the instrument cluster panel was subject to safety recall and required service. The radio system suffered an internal malfunction. The electric hydraulic power steering system was subject to a safety recall issued on June 11, 2026 and no remedy is currently available from the manufacturer. 2. The instrument cluster defect could prevent the driver from viewing critical safety information, like speed, odometer, and warning indicators. The electric hydraulic power steering defect poses an even greater risk, as a loss or reduction of steering assist could impair vehicle control and increase the likelihood of a crash. Additionally, the recalled steering system may overheat and cause a fire, whether the vehicle is being driven or the engine is off, creating an immediate life-threatening hazard to occupants, nearby persons, vehicles, and property. This is especially concerning as a texas resident driving in the summer months with extreme temperatures. 3. The instrument cluster issue was addressed through recall service performed by an authorized Jeep dealership. The radio/internal failure was reported to the dealership, which acknowledged the malfunction. The power steering issue has also been recognized by the manufacturer through the issuance of a safety recall on 6/11/2026. 4. The vehicle has been inspected and serviced by authorized Jeep dealerships in connection with the instrument cluster recall and the reported radio malfunction. Additionally, the vehicle underwent multiple routine service inspections before the power steering recall was issued, and no steering-system defects or safety concerns were identified or disclosed. 5. No warnings or messages appeared before the failures. Radio failure caused infotainment screen to go blank while instrument cluster and power steering issues were identified by manufacturer recalls instead of vehicle warnings.
Our Jeep 4xe underwent the recall for the hybrid battery. The battery was replaced in may 2026, since then the vehicle hesitates to accelerate at speed causing a safety concern. This vehicle has been recalled so many times we have no confidence in the vehicle.
On June 1, 2026, software update 68c was performed at the dealership on my 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. On June 6, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a. M. , after driving the vehicle for about 25 minutes, I experienced a serious malfunction. While making a turn at a speed of less than 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost throttle and propulsion. It appeared to hesitate as though shifting between electric and gasoline power, and then abruptly and erratically lurched forward, accelerating to what felt like maximum speed. The Jeep struck a chain-link fence, which slowed its movement, but it continued to surge forward. I applied the brakes and attempted to maintain control of the vehicle, but it kept lurching ahead. At no point did the vehicle emit a safety warning, sound an alert, or attempt to stop automatically, even though it normally responds to obstacles when operating properly. I repeatedly attempted to place the vehicle in reverse, but it did not respond. I turned the engine off and back on several times, and only after more than three attempts did the vehicle finally recognize reverse, allowing me to back away from the fence. A man in a truck assisted me and contacted the police. Both the responding police officer and the assisting individual expressed concern about the potential danger, particularly because the vehicle is a 4xe. I am now extremely hesitant and fearful to operate or move the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection and has not been inspected yet by dealership or insurance. I have it parked outside of my residence.
I own a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe high altitude (VIN: [xxx]) with three open safety recalls, two of which involve fire hazards: NHTSA id 25v741000 – high voltage battery may fail and cause fire (parts available) NHTSA id 25v766000 – engine failure may cause fire or loss of drive power (parts not available) 2. 0l phev engine recall (parts not available) I have been trying to schedule a recall repair appointment for several days. The dealership failed to confirm parts availability, gave no clear answers, and ultimately hung up on me during our conversation. Despite the NHTSA website confirming that parts for recall 25v741000 are available, the dealership was unable to schedule an appointment and provided no solution. I am being forced to drive a vehicle with an active fire hazard while the dealership refuses to take responsibility or provide timely service. This is a serious safety concern and I am requesting immediate action. The dealership has shown complete disregard for customer safety and has failed to fulfill its obligation to complete open safety recalls in a timely manner. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When accelerating the vehicle will not go or it will start to move then essentially stop, seconds later it starts moving. There is a delay and it’s extremely dangerous when there is oncoming traffic and/or the drivers behind you don’t realize what is happening. My Jeep is a 4xe and this does happen frequently since the last “fix” for the recalls.
My Jeep Wrangler 4xe experiences an intermittent loss of propulsion and acceleration while operating in electric mode. Prior to the issue, the vehicle often exhibits surging and inconsistent power delivery. When the issue occurs, the vehicle may hesitate, provide significantly reduced acceleration, or fail to respond appropriately to accelerator pedal input. In some cases, a message appears stating that electric mode is unavailable and the gasoline engine starts. In other cases, the vehicle does not transition to hybrid mode and provides little or no propulsion from either the electric motor or gasoline engine. Despite pressing the accelerator pedal, including significant throttle input, the vehicle will continue rolling slowly and fail to accelerate as expected. This has occurred multiple times, including while entering roadways, crossing traffic, making left turns across oncoming traffic, and merging with traffic. On several occasions, I was unable to clear traffic as expected and was forced to take evasive action to avoid a potential collision. The condition creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle does not consistently respond when acceleration is needed to safely enter or cross traffic. The issue is intermittent and can occur multiple times during a single drive. It occurs regardless of battery charge level, battery temperature, or operating mode conditions. No warning lights or check engine lights remain illuminated after the event. I have noticed the issue may occur more frequently during rain or adverse weather conditions. My vehicle has been subject to multiple recalls, including recall 68c, but this concern has not been resolved. I am reporting this issue because I believe the intermittent loss of expected propulsion presents a safety risk to vehicle occupants and other motorists.
Recurring incident after completion of Jeep recall software update 68c intended to address fire hazard associated with the vehicle's hybrid battery. Since that update, when driving in standard electric mode, the vehicle experiences a sudden loss of power, hesitation, and a physical 'bogging down'. Following this, the vehicle abruptly surges into combustion engine mode, causing a sudden and unpredictable acceleration lurch just after the vehicle has hesitated to accelerate. It poses a hazard for rear-end collision, attempting to pick up speed (e. G. , to pass or move from a vulnerable position) and overall maneuvering and operation of the vehicle.
Engine turns off while driving down road, have to pull over, restart vehicle to unlock gear shifter. Taken to deery iowa city three times to fix the dangerous problem and deery iowa city are only resetting the computer and turning off while driving down road continues happening. I have not been provided a safe loaner vehicle for over 12 days in shop. I cannot risk me and my daughter's safety resulting from this dangerous problem refusing to be fixed.
Was stopping at red light. Got to about 5mph when Jeep accelerated to about 35mph. I was standing on the breaks but the Jeep kept accelerating until impact struck the car in front me which was stopped. I have video.
Nhtsa complaint description what happened & safety risk: while driving a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe at highway speeds on interstate 84, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic, unrecoverable loss of motive power. Without any warning, the vehicle completely seized up, shut down, and turned off entirely while moving in active traffic. This exact life-threatening failure has now occurred twice. Operating a vehicle that completely dies at highway speeds places the driver, passengers, and all surrounding traffic at an extreme risk of a high-speed rear-end collision, as the vehicle loses all ability to accelerate or safely clear the roadway. Component/system malfunction: the failure lies within the hybrid propulsion system and electrical/software communication network (specifically relating to active federal recalls 25v710 for hybrid control processor software shutdown and 25v766 for engine sand contamination). The vehicle is absolutely available for inspection upon request. Dealer confirmation & inspection: the problem is currently being evaluated. The vehicle is currently held at an authorized stellantis dealership service department, where it was brought immediately following the most recent highway shutdown. Warning symptoms: there were no advance warning lamps, diagnostic messages, or performance symptoms prior to the failure. The loss of propulsion and complete vehicle shutdown occurred instantaneously and without warning while traveling at highway speeds.
Still no remedy for the engine recall. Vehicle gives me issues. Currently will not start, can not move the vehicle away from my driveway. Has bunch of electrical errors.
I took my car to the dealership to complete the 04b recall. When I got my car back from this recall: 1. The car says driving in electric mode but it uses gas. 2. The car while driving on the highway will hesitate for a split second. . Very dangerous. 3. When going on a small hill(example: bridge on turnpike over griffon road) will all of a sudden hesitates and will not get any more power. 4. Multiple times when getting off the turnpike the car slowed to 20mph and would not go any faster for about 15 seconds. . All this while in electric mode. . Even more dangerous. . . I took the Jeep back to the dealership, they have had the car for 6 weeks and acknowledge the problems. . But stellantis keeps saying this is normal. . Not normal, did not happen before the recall.
I was driving vehicle on interstate when sudden loss of power took place. I immediately pulled off the road and we smelled smoke. Fire was coming out of engine compartment near passenger wheel. We immediately exited the vehicle and assisted our young children out of the back seat. Within seconds the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. If we were not able to immediately pull off the road and assist our children, we could have all been severely injured or killed.
Yesterday evening we were driving and the orange check engine light came on. Followed by a red battery light, the red turtle and an exclamation point with a car and a speedometer symbol. It would not let me switch to electric e-save and kept me in hybrid mode. Regenerative braking would not work either. Once safely parked it was making a loud high pitched whining noise. It would also drop rpms while idling and then they would rev up quickly. Once the tow truck arrived he tried to drive it up on the flat bed but it had no power to make it up the ramp and had to be pulled with the tow cable up the ramp. Another thing I have noticed as of the last 68c update is that when in electric mode and merging onto a freeway for example, it gets really sluggish at about 65mph and the gas engine won't kick in like it used to before the update. It doesn't go above 65 and slows down to about 62 even if my foot is pedal to the floor before ice kicks in. Makes it pretty dangerous to be merging with traffic going 70+.
Started car and check engine light was on. Started to drive it and the battery and other lights came on. Engine sounded funny and electric motor was not available. As I was trying I needed to pull off because it was not moving smoothly and was jerky. I pulled over into a parking lot and put in park and the lights indicated it was in charging mode. After repeated attempts to turn the vehicle completely off I was able to. When I was able to finally turn it back on it the engine was very loud. While driving the car would accelerate when I did not have my foot on the brake and was getting warm inside the cabin. At random times the battery light and a red turtle would appear saying the speed was being limited. This happened repeatedly. The following day on the way to try to bring it to the dealership to fix it the speed was increasing while on flat ground unless I had foot on break and then the red turtle would come back on. I determined it was unsafe to drive and requested a tow to the dealership.
My Jeep will not operate correctly in the electric mode after a software update that was required to resolve a recall. The vehicle loses power in the electric mode and surges into the gasoline mode suddenly. This occurs after the vehicle has been driven a while and when the battery level drops below 50%. See these forums for others experiencing the same issue. [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The vehicle has an issue where when it is off and the key is nowhere near it. It turns on and makes strange noises. I have video footage of it that has been sent to the dealership and they were not able to duplicate it after a very short period of time at the dealership I’ve since had the same issue numerous times as well as the battery has since died as well. I’ve had other issues happen where the vehicle has died with no warning, and I lost all power. The vehicle often times overheats where if you touched the vehicle in certain spots, it’s burning hot. The electrical system seems to have faulty in it as things like the temperature are never accurate and seem to have issues with glitching that has not been able to be duplicated although I have video proof of that as well. Considering all of the safety recalls that have never been remedied like the battery fires. There is no actual remedy that’s been done. All they do is scan the batteries currently to see if there are current issues happening, but there have been fires that have happened to people’s vehicle since with all of the issues that I’ve had with my vehicle with it powering on when the keys are nowhere near it. It’s very scary to have a vehicle that can catch fire with all of the electrical issues currently has that have never been corrected.
Jeep engine stopped running while driving on high way 20. Had to coast to stop in middle of side street. Jeep did start back up but would not go into drive until an hour of trying to get it into gear. Drove it home. Next morning I started Jeep but would not go into drive. It was stuck in park.
My vehicle was purchased brand new and currently has only about 13,000 miles. Despite this, it is already being recommended for a full engine replacement. The dealership has diagnosed coolant seeping into cylinder 4, indicating a failing head gasket. I do not understand how this could be attributed to me, as the car is still very new and has never overheated. I first noticed the issue in April 2025, when I had to begin regularly adding coolant. I have kept receipts documenting all coolant purchases since that time. However, the dealership is refusing to cover the repair, claiming that I am at fault because I replaced the coolant expansion tank. The timeline clearly shows otherwise. The coolant loss began in April 2025, while the expansion tank was not replaced until July 2025—months after the issue had already started. While the expansion tank is part of the cooling system, it would not cause a head gasket failure. This situation has also created a safety concern for my family, as my wife and child are now afraid to drive the vehicle due to the risk of being stranded where most hawaii roads do not have safe shoulder to pull over on. According to the traffic safety of honolulu, there are numerous cases where people were killed for being on the side of the road. Given these facts, I am requesting that this matter be reevaluated and that the necessary repairs, including engine replacement if required, be covered under warranty.
Driving on the highway smoke came from under the hood in the right hand side forcing my family out on the highway keep ingulfed in flames and burnt to a crisp.
On April 17th 2024 my vehicle received a recall update 68c regarding the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle battery. Two days later, I was driving on a major freeway in southern California, noticed that the ev battery was not being depleted as it remained at 100%. Shortly thereafter, a check engine light came on, and the power was severely restricted. Within a few minutes, the vehicle completely lost power in the middle of the freeway and I was able to get over to the right shoulder. At this point, the vehicle had no power and I could not turn the vehicle off either regarding the electronics. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership in san diego, and by the time it was at the dealership, the vehicle was in full lockout mode and had zero battery power left and could not even lock the doors. This caused a significant safety hazard as I was with my [xxx] child and the vehicle just completely lost power on the freeway. The vehicle is now at the dealership and they are giving me a very hard time saying that there is nothing wrong with it, but I have read that there have been many problems with this recall update. The dealership told me that the problem was a bad 12 v battery and that I needed to pay to replace that and I argued with them that that was not the problem and they are not addressing the major issue with a complete power loss on the freeway after a required software update that has known problems. On March 19, 2026 I paid $5,778. 87 for repairs to my 2018 Wrangler jl. Repairs included the replacement of warped cylinder head and failed head gasket with coolant getting into the combustion chamber, showing up as rough running, misfire, flashing check engine light, and burning coolant smell. On April 18, 2026, at approximately 10:30 pm, after attending the [xxx] concert at bank of America stadium (+70,000 in attendance), the vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted or moved to the shoulder of the highway. The vehicle failure occurred on i277 outside of bank of America stadium with hundreds of cars passing us as my wife and were stranded in the middle lane. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
