Was driving on the freeway with my wife and five yr old son when we heard a loud pop underneath our 2018 Jeep Wrangler and instantly saw a trail of smoke behind us. We immediately pulled over to find transmission guild gushing from underneath with tons of smoke as well. We were hoping the smoke was probably just from fluid on the manifold but we small flashes of fire starting at the transmission and clutch area. I quickly grabbed my son sitting in back and we jumped over the concrete barrier on the side and ran away from the Jeep as it quickly became engulfed. It still had the temp tags having only had it three weeks. It was a 2018 with 15k miles.

During the winter storm in texas temperatures where below 0. My family was without power and need to evacuate. After starting the engine I started to smell burning oil with the engine idling. I noticed there was engine oil dripping from transmission, driveshafts and skid plates. I traced the oil back up to the engine and then further to the top of the engine. There is engine oil and coolant pooled in the valley between the engine heads, underneath the intake manifold. The oil filter/cooler assembly is leaking either the o-rings are bad or the plastic housing has cracked. Researching I found this has been an issue for some time. Clearly a manufacturers defect. Why no recalls? plus the part from retailers state the the part is no longer available for purchase.

Running errands in the Jeep I started to smell burning oil while stopped with the engine idling. Returned home to notice there was engine oil dripping from transmission, driveshafts and skid plates. I traced the oil back up to the engine and then further to the top of the engine. There is engine oil and coolant pooled in the valley between the engine heads, underneath the intake manifold. The diagnosis is the oil filter/cooler assembly. Either the o-rings are bad or the plastic housing has cracked. The Jeep is out of warranty for both the bumper to bumper and the powertrain. However, the Jeep has less than 50k miles on the odometer. The repair will be done by my self as my abilities are competent and I refuse to pay 1200. 00 dollars for a mechanic or dealership to perform this task, particularly seeing the total cost of parts is less than 250. 00. Fca should be held responsible as leaks in the lubricating and cooling system could result in catastrophic engine failure, vehicle fires, loss of life or great bodily harm and harm to surrounding individuals, property and/or the environment. Sounds like enough to warrant a recall, if you ask me.

Oil cooler assembly has started leaking badly after 60,000 miles and is a fire hazard. This assembly is too fragile and requires taking off the intake manifold to access and replace, so it should not be a plastic part. It contains the oil filter which causes it to have torque applied every oil change and causes it to break prematurely. This is very common problem and I was told by the dealer that there were 25,000 of these assemblies on back order nationwide and he could not tell me when it would be in stock. My Jeep is now undriveable until the backlog is worked through which may take months. If this was a rare problem I could get the part and have it repaired. This problem has rendered my vehicle unusable. This is unacceptable and Jeep has known about this issue for years on multiple year models. Please investigate. There is no reason this couldn't have been properly engineered with a metal part.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that oil had leaked from under the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact determined that the oil had leaked from the engine intake manifold. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer barnett Chrysler and Jeep located at 3430 hwy 61 n, white bear lake, mn 55110 and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,500.

2014 Jeep Wrangler pentastar oil cooler leaks which pours onto exhaust manifold and starts on fire. Happened to me coming home from work. Luckily I was in the driveway and I put it out with my extinguisher. Oil everywhere leaking down engine and on the under carriage. Caught it in time and nothing else was effected. Good thing I wasn't on the freeway with my whole family in the vehicle. Fca us llc should fix this issue. Very scary especially when unexpected. Please fca us llc fix this issue so it no longer happens to other families. Cause it sure looks like it's a problem.

Need to replace oil sensors, filter housing & intake manifold gasket set-warped. Oil leaking everywhere due to cracked housing. There have been complaints since 2014 in all makes of Jeep/Chrysler cars and they refuse to recall/fix. This is a serious danger!.

The check engine light came on. I had my mechanic shop check the codes and the oil pressure sensor that is mounted in the oil filter housing went out at 64000 miles. The repairs are very expensive since the intake manifold will need to be removed to replace the parts. The oil filter housing which the oil pressure mounts into will also need to be replaced since it was leaking. The shop advised they have replaced several in the last few months and the issue was very common.

At 16000 miles, my driver side exhaust manifold cracked. The dealer replaced. It has now been replace 6 additional times. The dealer will not honor their original repair which obviously did not work. I am breathing insafe exhaust fumes. Chrysler corp has know about this problem (TSB 09-001-13) now Chrysler will not fix. It was under warranty the first 4 times it cracked. Clearly it is a warped head or valve problem. Either way exhaust comes in the car.

Jeep started leaking oil at 57000 miles oil leak was due to a known part failure the oil housing which is plastic and can easily crack. Vehicle has only been serviced at dealership where it was bought. Oil housing located under manifold, oil leak can potentially cause a fire when it splatters on manifold. Jeep knows this part can fail at any time.

In 2014 mopar started using a plastic oil filer / cooler housing on the 3. 6 penstar engines. This plastic oil filer/cooler housing is easy to crack or develop oil leaks. The oil then puddles up under the intake manifold laying against the hot engine block. It appears to be a faulty design that could result in engine fires or breakdowns from loss of oil. This is used on lots of different models of vehicles. Mine is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. The oil leaks anytime the engine is running. After the engine valley is full the oil runs down the back of the engine and falls on the transmission bell housing and exhaust pipe causing burning oil smell and possible fire hazard. Mopar should replace these on all vehicles after the 2014 year.

The engine oil cooler assembly is leaking a large amount of oil into the "v" of the engine and dripping on to the exhaust manifolds. The vehicle was parked for over a week and upon driving smoke with the smell of burning oil filled the passenger compartment. To the extent that the vehicle needed to be pulled over and inspected for fire and damage. It was noted that the transmission, frame rails, and exhaust pipes were covered in oil and the vehicle was approximately 2. 5 quarts low on oil. No prior signs of an oil leak were present before the smoke and burn oil smell was noticed during normal use of the vehicle.

My O2 sensors (all 4) and my ecu continued to come up faulty. I took my Jeep to a repair shop. The repair man told my that my left and right manifolds were cracked and they would have to be replaced. Also had a bolt that had broken off one of the manifolds.

Leaking oil due to oil cooler failure. This is a known issue on the 3. 6l penstar engines and Chrysler Dodge Jeep does nothing to repair it. I have looked up plenty of threads and videos on this and this is not a easy or cheap repair. The result is oil leaking from the back of the of the intake manifold and down the back of the engine and to the ground.

Oil filter cooler adapter leaking and due to the placement of the unit intake manifold must be removed. Oil leaking and covering undercarriage and exhaust, appears to be a chronic and well documented problem with the 3. 6 penstar engine. After a little research the unit appears to be a well known issue. Time for Chrysler to step up.

The oil filter housing on the v6 3. 6l penstar failed, allowing oil to leak directly onto the intake manifold while the vehicle is running. From there the oil drained down the back of the engine, down the transmission and onto the exhaust system. From personal experience I know this to be a fire hazard. Based on my own research this failure is a known problem with this year model and resulted in the manufacturer making changes on later models. However, this does address the thousands of vehicles still on the road. Part number seems to be 68105583aa.

Massive oil leak at the oil cooler housing. (2 quarts per day). Leaking on the top of the motor and leaking down the back passenger side engine directly over the hot exhaust manifold. Leak occurs at all rpm ranges and leaves massive puddles of oil everywhere I go which is not good for the environment. And presents a fire hazard if stuck in traffic and engine temps rise enough to cause ignition of leaking oil over a hot exhaust manifold.

Engine leaks oil from the "oil filter adapter" that is cracked. The oil leaks onto the manifold and gets really hot causing a burning smell. It could potentially set a fire to the engine. I noticed this because of the strong burning smell and the white smoke coming from the engine.

Vehicle check engine light came on shortly after regular service at the dealer. Returned to have it checked, was told that the issue was caused by a faulty oil pressure sensor. The location of the sensor requires removal of the intake manifold, fuel injector's and rails, etc. , resulting in approx. 4 hours of labor at the dealer. The dealer advised that they have "seen thousands of these sensor's fail on the 3. 6 engine". There is a TSB; 18-034-14 rev. A, documenting complaints. Because the vehicle has 41k miles on it, the dealer will not cover the cost of the repair. I called the manufacturer to complain about the fact there apparently is no recall on this defective item. I was told that I could do nothing, except for put in a complaint about the dealer. I told them that the dealer is not the problem, it is the manufacturer who refuses to issue a recall despite the fact there are numerous instances of this part failing across their product line. Was told to complain to NHTSA.

The heat shield between the muffler and gas tank has worn out where the nuts that secure it to gas tank contact the shield. The shield has clearly deteriorated due to normal driving vibration as there are no moving parts and the shield is not reinforced where the nuts contact it. I've had to add large fender washers to cover the worn thru portion of the shield but this will not be a long term solution as the plate will simply wear out where the new washers contact it.

Driving home from work on a moderately hot day (91 deg at start of drive, 80 deg at time of incident about 55 minutes after start), some stop-n-go traffic first 40 minutes, then a steady normal climb into foothills (from about 5400' to 8200') on paved roads, as vehicle was turning right at a y-intersection at top of a hill, a large bang was heard in the engine compartment followed by excessive amounts of grey smoke emanating from same. Engine temperature was normal at the time (fan had engaged a few times along the way to keep within range) and no warning lights were present before or after incident. Immediately pulled over and opened hood. Within about a minute of stopping a small fire broke out above the drivers side manifold/cat. I was able to extinguish using a towel, but not before the fire had melted some wire bundles. Initial inspection indicated a power steering (atf) fluid rupture that sprayed the engine compartment, subsequently flashing from the heat of the catalytic converter. Fortunately, situation was handled quickly before the car became engulfed (as I've now learned has happened several times with this vehicle model). Vehicle is being towed to Jeep dealer tomorrow for repair. I have not yet had the opportunity to speak with Jeep regarding this incident, but feel a faulty design has put my safety at risk. I will hopefully be able to provide more information to this submission once available. . .

Did oil and filter change at the dealership. I got on the freeway and looked at my rear window when I saw smoke. Did not think of it much since I figured its the old oil burning. Drove for a good 2-3 miles and it was getting worse. Pulled over to the side and a lot of smoke got inside the vehicle. Got out and the oil was draining over the muffler, transmission cover that was causing the smoke. I thought they forgot to put the screw back on or the oil filter loose. Called the dealership told them what happened and called a tow truck. Once at the dealership, was told by the tech that it might of been the oil cooler that was draining or got cracked, he said that this is pretty common. I checked online for recalls but did not find any but I did notice a lot of Jeep forums online that this was an issue with this model yr. This could be a fire hazard with all that oil draining on the muffler and the engine. Bad design overall! I even know that, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out, its common sense. Making parks with plastic pipes? by the engine and in a hot area? it might be to save money in parts but I am paying on a $40000 Jeep. Got the part 68105583aa replaced with 68105583ae. Hopefully this got motified.

I found leaking transmission cooler lines on my Jeep Wrangler. I contacted Chrysler/Jeep by phone to inquire about a customer satisfaction notification l05 transmisson oil cooler lines issue pertaining to TSB: 2008-2010 jk Wrangler: transmission oil cooler lines may weep transmission fluid. TSB: 2008-2010 jk Wrangler: transmission oil cooler lines may weep transmission fluid subject: extended warranty -transmission oil cooler lines may weep transmission fluid at the hose to tube crimp joints (7 years or 70,000 miles warranty extension) overview: this bulletin involves installing new transmission oil cooler supply & return line assembly. Models: 2008 -2010 (jk) Wrangler note: this extended warranty bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with 3. 8l engine (sales code egt) and an automatic transmission (sales code dgv) built before March 10, 2010 (mdh0410xx). Symptom/condition: weeping transmission oil cooler lines at the hose-to-tube crimp joints. Diagnosis: if the symptom/condition is experienced proceed to the repair procedure. I was told my vehicle would not be covered by this and I would have to pay for the repairs. If these lines were to burst or open up enough to spray fluid it would ignite off the exhaust manifolds and burn the vehicle to the ground. This has happened to several Jeep owners I have found in my research and one owner had their vehicle burn even after the lines were improperly replaced by a dealership even. My Jeep meets all the criteria in the customer satisfaction notification l05 yet I was told it wasn't covered.

For the past 2-3 years I keep hearing ticking from my engine. When I took it to the dealer, they said its nothing. I replaced the spark plugs and cables thinking that it was the cause of the ticking noise. I also changed the exhaust, but the ticking kept on going. For the past 3 months I started smelling fumes in the cabin and when I researched it, it seems like Jeep Wranglers seem to have a lot of issues with cracked exhaust manifold. I plan on taking it to the same dealer, who told me for the past 3 years, that I have no issues to get it fixed under the life time warrenty.

Noticed a very prominent ticking noise coming from the drivers side of engine. Occurs at idle and gets more pronounced when increasing speed while in park. Notified the dealer and Jeep spent three days at dealership. The service advisor who had 23 years of experience told me when he heard it that it definitely was a lifter problem. So I called Chrysler corp and received a claim number. To make a long story short, I was told that all the pentastar engines made a loud ticking noise from the drivers side and this was a normal variant. Was told that it was in the design of the left exhaust manifold and they all made this noise. After much talking between Chrysler corp and the dealership I was told to come and pick up my Jeep, nothing would be done. I have a friend who is a Dodge mechanic and was told that the pentastar engines are having multiple problems with the left head and cam phaser are going out. . . I am concerned that the engine will catch fire or stall out on the freeway.

Knocking noise coming from underneath the vehicle when driven. It would come and go, mechanic checked for the obvious loss parts (muffler, shocks, etc. . . ). The next day when the noise reappeared, the mechanic has driven less than a quarter mile when the engine seized. Mechanic dropped the oil pan and found metal shavings in the oil and the bearing had spun. Chrysler is refusing to take any responsibility to fix this common problem in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The mechanics we have spoken with have related that the new 07 3. 0 liter engine was found to have issues that lead to this spun bearing. Repairs and parts are well over $8000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician stated that the exhaust manifold was fractured and would have to be replaced. The failure recurred after the repair. The vehicle was repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
