1 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Check engine illuminated in mid-2017, but no codes were present and Jeep appeared to run fine. In sept 2017, while driving on I-75, the Jeep shuddered and the electronic throttle control light came on, along with the anti-lock brake system light. I took it to the Jeep dealership immediately, but they couldn't figure out the problem because the lights had turned off. They ended up swapping out the spark plugs and two ignition coils. The check engine light came back on a few days later. I was able to pull codes for the throttle position system 1 and 2. In oct 2017, the vehicle jumped/shuddered and stopped running. I had to coast to the shoulder and leave it sit for 10 minutes. I was able to restart the vehicle and drive it a local repair shop where they were unable to pull any codes and based off of my description of the issues, replaced the pedal assembly and cleared the codes. They said if the issue came back to replace the battery. The issue came back within 5 minutes of leaving the automotive garage, so I changed the battery in November. After that, the check engine light when away, but would come back on sporadically. The Jeep was still shuddering/jumping and would then completely stop after the check engine light, the electronic throttle control, and the anti-lock brake system notification, still. I just took it to another garage (aril 2018), since the previous two had no idea what the issue was. At this point I was still pulling throttle position 1 and 2 codes. This garage replaced the entire throttle body and ran a fuel injection service. Within 15 minutes of me driving away from that garage, the check engine light came on, followed by a softer shudder of the vehicle and the electronic throttle control light. I tried to pull codes when I got home, but there were none--but the check engine light and the electronic throttle control light are still on.

3 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

I have a 2010 sport Wrangler unlimited 4dr, at approx 3800 miles the car went dead on the highway at approx 60mph. All the indicator lights came on and the steering and brakes were hard to control. Momentarily the car resumed and went back to dealer. Have maintenance slips and initial complaint. Same incident happened at approx 4700 miles went back to same dealer. Checked online with Chrysler although the first time they replaced the ignition coil. It hasn't been resolved and I don't believe it will be resolved at the dealer level.

4 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

My 1998 Jeep tj was purchased used in 2004 with only 47,000 miles. Ran great for about 5 months and then would die while driving at any given time. Then after sitting for 30mins would start back up and could be driven about 40 miles before it shut down again. No check engine light would come on. So distcap. Plugs, wires, rotor and ignition coil were changed and the problem persisited with intermitten problems. So a obii handheld scanner by innova was purchased to scan the system which finally caught a code in the Jeep. The code was p0352 which was a result of the pick up coil inside the distributor going out. Was purchase from the dealer. Part# 56041030. Cost in CA is $57. 85. Was changed and runs great however the Jeep is now having new problems which have to be addressed and trouble shot. Hope this helps with the erractic itermitten ignition problems. Oh and to test the coil to see if it is bad you need a volt meter and set it to check resistance. The resistance from primary terminals to the high tension terminal should be 11. 3 to 15. 3 ohms on a diamond brand and 11. 3 to 13. 3 on a toyodenso brand. And when checking from primary to the other primary it should be 0. 97 to 1. 18 ohms on diamond and 0. 95 to 1. 20 ohms on a toyodenso brand. The primary is where the two wire connector from the harness plugs into.
