1 Ignition Module problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Out of the blue the Jeep would not start one morning. There were no warning signs. It had to be towed to the dealer. Turns out the wcm (wireless control module) failed in the ignition so the keys were not recognized by the module. They replaced the part (would not cover under our extended warranty we purchased!!!!) and reprogrammed both our keys. $385. 00 later it now starts.

2 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

Walked to vehicle, pressed unlock on key fob, all electrical seemed to go off at once. Horn blaring, lights flashing, windshield wipers going, and windshield washer fluid spraying out. Tried pressing all buttons on key fob to shut it off, didn't work. Out key in ignition and turned it. Did nothing. After a couple of minutes it quit on its own. Same thing happened two other times today. Google shows same symptoms with all Jeeps and other Chrysler vehicles 2007 - present. Issue appears to be faulty tipm module. Contacted dealer and Chrysler/Jeep. Same answer from both, no recall. So I pay to get it fixed, and hope the replacement part doesn't reap out.

3 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited has begun exhibiting very strange behavior: 1) the front windshield wiper spray does not work. The rear wiper spray works fine. Very unusual since both front and rear spray uses the same pump. Thus poses a safety issue. 2) the door locks no longer lock when the lock button is pressed on the key fob. This is true for either fob, and yes, I have changed the batteries. 3) the car sometimes does not start. The engine does not crank. This happens at random, and can sometimes be resolved by removing the keys from the ignition, re-inserting them and trying again. Sometimes 5 or more attempts are required to get the car to start. In my research, all of these symptoms point to a faulty tipm module.

4 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

Abnormal flashing of instruments panel. Speedometer and gauges turn off while vehicle was in motion, turn signal indicator go off and on. Vehicle temporarily loses engine power. Intermittent loss of electrical power to all dashboard components. Radio, blinkers, wipers go on or off on their own. Vehicle ignition won't start. Diagnosed by dealership tipcm failure; "computer fried" I had to pay for a new wiring harness, had to replace fuse box, brand new sway bar control module along with a brand new tipcm computer bought from dealer. Dealership won't cover repair cost nor is covered by Jeep manufacturer's warranty.

5 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Totally integrated power module (tipm) failure causing every electrical system to malfunction - usually at the same time. Alarm/horn, wipers/washer, radio, gauges, etc), to which removing the key from the ignition has no effect. Only solution is to remove battery connection ( and apologize to those around you in traffic for the inconvenient show the vehicle just put on). Manufacturer recall of tipms only covered certain manufacture dates, despite the problem not being limited to just that one group of vehicles. Repair (replacement of tipm) is > $1000.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Several issues with the vehicle: 1. "death wobble" vehicle intermittently shakes violently over 45 mph. Stop vehicle and starts running fine. 2. Suspect bad tipm. Intermittent horn and wipers turn on after opening driver door. Next, car sometimes will not start. Tapping the tipm will allow it to start. Next with ignition off and key out, engine continues to run until tapping the module. Finally, now the engine will just stop intermittently while driving down the road. Found that both of these issues are common problems with Jeeps.

7 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the front windshield wiper turned on, the headlights illuminated, the vehicle would not shift out of the park position and the horn sounded without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. Djr.

8 Ignition Module problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2011

Potentially a root cause of the rash of fires in Jeep Wranglers that are sitting parked: failure of the tipm (totally integrated power module). In Dec 2011, my daughter drove her new (3000 miles) 2011 Jeep Wrangler unlimited to church, parked it, turned off the key, took the key out of the ignition, exited the vehicle and locked the door, and went into the church building - never realizing that motor was actually still running!! (they're very quiet when idling and she was talking to a friend. ) about 20 to 30 minutes later, a man came running into church that knows of her vehicle and said "your Jeep is running, there's smoke or steam coming out from under the hood, the door is locked, and I can't get in to turn it off! my daughter checked and she indeed had the ignition key in her hand. She ran out of church and unlocked the door, put the key in the ignition but it would not kill the engine! we had to engage the clutch in a high gear on the manual transmission to kill it. Radiator coolant all over the ground. We found that radiator fluid was just about all boiled out of the engine. The tipm was allowing the engine to continue to run even though the ignition was off and key removed - but the tipm did shut off the electrically operated cooling fan in front of the radiator. There was electrical power going to the motor ignition so that the motor continued to run - but w/o a fan. The coolant boiled out of the engine and had our friend not intervened our motor definitely would have boiled itself dry and continued to run until it either seized up due to excessive heat and/or ignited a fire due to the excessive heat (potentially by igniting the fuel within the fuel system?? electrical wire insulation causing an electrical fire?? battery boiling and fire??). As you're aware, there are several potential secondary sources for fire ignition under the vehicle hood.

9 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

2007 Jeep Wrangler would no start after being parked for 2 days, waited 10 minutes and it started. Same day I was driving 65 mph and it stalled/died completely with all dash light coming on. Jeep was hauled by a wrecker to dealership for repair, the wrecker driver drove the Jeep onto the wrecker and off the wrecker. The dealership could not duplicate the problem, they replaced the ignition switch. Picked up on 7/23, vehicle was parked for a wee, 8/1-8/3, it started up and drove fine. On 8/4 parked and it wouldn't start again. Waited 1 hour and it started, drove to dealership again. They couldn't duplicate the problem, so far it sits for 15 minutes after stalling, it will start. The dealership reprogrammed abs module and steering angle sensor road test, no faults and all sensors working properly. Did reprogram tipm, could not duplicate stalling. Left dealership on 8/6/09, drove 2 days no problems. 8/8 stalled while driving 65 mph, all dash lights came on and was still able to roll windows down. Started after 5 minutes, parked for 5 hours, car started but after going 20 yds. The a/c cut off, back on and continued to do this for 30 minutes. A/c started running ok and then the Jeep stalled again traveling 50 mph, no where to get off highway, parked in the road on a hill and was almost hit from behind. Sheriff deputy pulled up, car started 15 minutes later and sheriff followed me home. The dealership said they don't know what to do and want me to leave it with them until they can duplicate while their. I'm afraid to drive it for fear of being rearended by another vehicle. When it stalls you can only travel a few yards and it's hard to get off the road to safety. I have read about other 2007 Jeeps doing this and I truly understand the other drivers fear for their life. Please investigate as soon as possible.

10 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/24/2007

While traveling at night down a county road at approximately 60 mph the headlights went off for almost a second, the dash lights lit up like a christmas tree, the engine bogged and all accessories went off, and then came back on as if the ignition had just been turned on. The engine's power returned, and it continued as if nothing happened. The brake light stayed illuminated for 3-5 minutes after. Prior to this, there was a similar incident, though it was in the daylight and I was unable to see the dash lights light up or the headlights come on, however the engine bogged and the bas light lit up. The problem is intermittent and I have not yet had an opportunity to take the vehicle to the dealership yet.

12 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/03/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. While driving at 65 mph the steering locked, instrument panel dimmed, and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle restarted automatically approximately four seconds later. The vehicle was taken to a shop and no failures were found. This morning, while driving 65 mph the failure's recurred. The contact stated that the radio shut off without warning and the vehicle automatically restarted four to five seconds later. The contact never turned the key in the ignition, changed lanes, or changed gears when the vehicle restarted. The dealer could not duplicate the failure and stated that the vehicle had an investigation open with NHTSA, action # pe07009 regarding electrical system power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)). The current mileage is 4,971, and failure mileage was 2,000. Updated 06/26/07.

17 Ignition Module problem of the 1999 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/14/1998

The check engine light keeps coming on. I have returned it for service 4 times, and need to bring it back in again. First they said it was a solenoid. Then they traced all of the wiring. The time after that they replaced the module. Next they replaced all of the spark plugs (recall service). They replaced the spark plugs 2-3 weeks ago, and the check engine light is already back on. The dealership's service has been good, but they nor Chrysler seem to know why this is occurring.
