36 Starter problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/08/2011

Car will not start successfully due to faulty electrical grounds not present. When car is in park at random times the car will not start. However, if you put the car in neutral gear will start successfully. I have had this problem for 3 years now and have spent money replacing the battery, starter. These repairs did not and will not resolve this problem. Based on my research and other Jeep owners the work around is to start the car in neutral when this happens or add ground wires from the battery to the engine block and from the transmission to resolve. This should be a recall from the manufacture and not a out of pocket expense to the owners.

37 Starter problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

When trying to start vehicle the Jeep will not start. Sometimes I have to put it in neutral to get it to start, sometimes I have to remove the key or push the shifter (automatic) into park. This has been an on going problem with my Jeep, and I could not replicate it at the dealer. The dealer replaced the starter and battery which I told them was not the problem.

38 Starter problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/07/2010

Letter re the problems experienced with a 2010 Jeep Wrangler feels that vehicle falls under the new car lemon law (entire package not imaged, forwarded to nvs-200) the consumer stated there have been repeated attempts to repair the vehicle. However, the vehicle remains defective. The consumer stated the vehicle was running sluggish and burning oil, but no leaks were found. The problem went on for several months. The consumer believed the engine was defective, but the dealer would not approve a new engine, so they kept replacing parts. The vehicle was eventually returned to the consumer, with the same problem. The dealer checked the engine again, and discovered it was burning 1 quart of oil per hour and it was determined the engine needed to be replaced. The hard top was leaking and ruined the carpet. The starter was defective. Also the transmission was exhibiting a burning smell, it would slip and wouldn't go into gear and the fluid was no longer the correct color. Also, the temperature gauge rose just under the overheating point. The radiator cooling fan was defective. Also, there was a grinding noise coming from the transfer case.

39 Starter problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Purchased the car brand new in 2008. Approximately two years later , I began having problems with the car starting. Put the key in the ignition, turn it and you hear a click. Initially, it seemed to occur sporadically normally after it rained . Now, the problem occurs more frequently (daily) absent any rain. I've replaced the battery, alternator and starter to no avail. I also took the car to a Jeep dealer to no avail .

40 Starter problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/13/2009

Shortly after purchasing new in 2008 the vehicle began to intermittently not start, dealer has replaced key, battery, starter, tipm, pcm, negative cable on battery and installed heavy gauge ground cable to battery. After four years and 93000 miles the problem still exists. It appears this problem is common to 2008 Wranglers and that Chrysler is just throwing parts at it hoping that something will stick. This is a very serious safety issue with me as an engineering soils technician. I need to be confident that my vehicle is going to start so as not to be ran over by a large earth mover while conducting my work duties.

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is a right hand ride Jeep. At 9,000 miles, the contact had to replace the heating switches and wiring harness. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they dismantled the dashboard. They noticed several malfunctions and replaced a number of wiring harnesses in order to repair the heating switches. Recently, the vehicle had to be returned to the dealer due to alternator failure. The alternator sent so much heat to the battery that is caused the water to boil. Sulfuric acid spilled all over the firewall of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the alternator was sending currents of up to 19 volts to the battery. The failure mileage was 56,000. Updated 05/21/08 the consumer stated he replaced the heater switch 3 times, the alternator and starter were replaced as well. The defroster was inoperative. Updated 05/20/08.

44 Starter problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/04/2007

2007 Jeep jk 4-door has stalled a couple of times. I've started my Jeep about 10 times and the starter continues to run. I need to turn off the Jeep for this to stop.

45 Starter problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/13/2007

The 2007 4 door Jeep Wrangler died at a light after I had it about one month. Throughout my ownership the starter or ignition , I didn't know which, stuck when trying to start it periodically. The biggest concern was that last weekend while driving on the interstate at about 70 mph the engine got really loud for a minute and then all of the dashboard lights flew on. I believed that the engine had started to stall but then caught. I took vehicle to the dealership, and they couldn't recreate the problem, ran diagnostics, and then searched the Jeep database and found nothing. If you investigated the internet there were dozens of people who were having the same problems. Two people NY and minnesota contacted me and said that the problem was the throttle control. One of them stated that his dealership had called the Jeep help line and got it fixed. Therefore, I knew that it should be in their database - but it wasn't showing when searched as being done by dealerships. I was scared that one of these times while I was on the interstate the engine was going to die and steering will go out. On the Jeep websites, numerous people have actually had to restart their engines while driving.

46 Starter problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/03/2007

My Jeep has died on me 3 times:1) in Jan 07; 2 mos after I bought it-while in transit on the freeway @ 70mph all power was lost, engine shut down, lasted about 5 sec. It came back on-on its own while still moving. 2) 03/07 while in transit, @ 10mph shut down, had to put it in park and restart it. 3) may 07- while aproaching a red light, it shut down, had to put it in park and restart it. Every single time its ocurred I have taken it in the the service dept and they are unable to find the malfunction. The third instance, they installed an autopilot- to record the malfunction, but on ly let me keep it for 1 1/2 weeks because the service department only has 1 in the whole shop, and they cannot spare me the autopilot for the length of time that it might take for the issue to reocurr, of course nothing happened. I believe that this customer service is a joke, & feel it is a major hazard, to continue to drive around like this, I fear that it may stall while on the freeway and get hit by another traveling vehicle. Another issue is the ignition/starter, it seems to randomly get stuck- and sounds as though I am still turning the key when my hand is not even touching it. I am frustraded with this lemon and would like to know who else is having the same issues- because I am not getting any solutions from the service department & manufacturer.

47 Starter problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/23/2007

I took my 2004 Jeep grand cherokee back to the dealer brown's Jeep in medford NY because it would continuously stall and the yellow dashboard light would stay on. The problem began at approx 50,000 miles and the dealer new exactly what it was; a throttle sensor on a circuit board. The SUV would race and buck and was difficult to control. It seemed odd that they new what it was right away and happened to a relatively late model vehicle. And now I saw an article in the newspaper about the NHTSA investigating stalling of Jeep suvs. It cost me approx. $400-$500 of the $1150 I paid for the service visit attributable to fixing the stalling issue. Perhaps the Jeeps you are investigating are not the only years involved.
