This is a 2022 Jeep Wrangler sport with 40k miles on it. It was bought brand new. We are experiencing what is called the "death wobble" where the suspension parts give out and create a severe wobble in the front suspension and steering of the vehicle at highway speeds. The 2019 Jeep had a recall on this problem as well.

The vehicle violently shakes after hitting minor bumps on the road. The steering wheel shakes not allowing you to have control of the vehicle. The vehicle can hit another vehicle or roll over due to this defect. This is a serious issue linked to poor quality parts and craftsmanship from the manufacturer. This can cause serious injury or death if not fixed immediately. This also causes the alignment to go out and pre-mature wear and tear on the tires. Mark my words someone will die from this failure.

At 40 mph and above and without warning, the front end of the vehicle will begin to bounce and shake from side to side causing the steering wheel to also shake, thus making it difficult for the driver to safely steer the vehicle. Once speed is reduced the shaking stops and normal control is regained. This issue has occurred multiple times and lasts anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute.
Drag link and tie rod links failed under 50,000 miles. This has caused an extremely unsafe driving scenario for both occupants and other drivers. This is a well known issue within the automobile community, condition is nicknamed death wobble. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership for the issue and diagnosed. The manufacture refused any help to remedy the issue knowingly putting my family in danger. No warnings given within the vehicle. Issue arised on the highway traveling at 70mph shaking the vehicle off the road.

Death wobble/uncontrollable shaking when vehicle hits any kind of inconsistencies in the road, especially on the freeway. Yes it’s available for inspection upon request. I have taken it to the local Jeep dealership mechanics and les schwab auto center to have the problem inspected/fixed and both have told me “everything looks fine” but it is absolutely not fine when I have to put my hazards on and pull over to almost a complete stop to get the shaking to stop on the freeway. It’s terrifying. No lights or warnings happen before the incident occurs.
- (1) failed/black instrument cluster/panel. Unable to see mileage, fuel level, engine temperature, tire pressure, etc. - I can hear multiple warning lights going off, but I'm unable to see any. - the vehicle has been brought in for servicing at my nearest Jeep dealership - the vehicle is currently being inspected at my nearest Jeep dealership - there were no warning messages or lamps prior to failure. The issue first appeared on 1/25/2025. The panel has not turned on since.
While traveling at highway speed crossed a road expansion joint and the vehicle began to shake. On this particular trip of approximately 250 miles, it only occurred at these higher speeds. Slowing down eliminated the "death wobble. " a TSB has been issued that possibly addresses this issue. A review of the internet indicates that this problem has been persist and prevalent for this car model for over a decade, and is a safety issue. This should trigger a recall to address this problem.
On three separate occasions the vehicle began violently shaking giving the impression the front wheels were coming off (aka the death wobble). On all three occasions the shaking started while driving straight on paved road at 45-60mph. The first two incidents occurred within a week’s time. The Jeep services testing reported no issues. At that time they performed a realignment and sent me on my way. The most recent occurrence happened on Jan. 18, 2025. On this occasion the same Jeep services testing reported a possible problem with the tie rods. This vehicle was purchased in Jan 2021 and currently has about 25,500 miles. It has not been driven off road and has not been modified. Considering Jeep’s well documented issues of this nature, it does not seem that they have addressed the problems.
My Jeep has just started this problem going lower speeds and hitting a bump in the road. All of the sudden my Jeep will start to shake violently and will not stop until I slow way down almost to a stop. It is happening approx. 8 to 15 times every day now. I no longer can go even one day without this happening. I believe it is called the death wobble. The shaking is so bad that it has steered me into oncoming traffic twice. I don't even want to drive it anymore and I love my Jeep. I am frustrated because I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with a 09/2017 manufacture date and Jeep offered a recall on 2018 and 2019 Jeeps but not mine.

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler sport that only has 24k miles on it (all oem stock components with zero modification) and I have been experiencing death wobble issues when traveling at highway speeds and driving over seam transitions where the road meets bridge crossings. The vehicle shakes uncontrolably and it's absolutely terrifying. The only way to get it to stop is to remove my foot from the gas pedal, apply the brakes and come to a near stop. I took it to the dealership and all suspension parts are in good condition with no wear and bolts are tightened to oem torques. The dealership is recommending a steering stabilizer be installed, which is going to cost me $400 with no guarantee it will fix the issue. Many Jeep forums state the steering stabilzer is a band aid fix that does not resolve this serious safety defect long term. We'll see what happens, but quite honestly I'm scared to even drive it anymore. If it continues to experience death wobble after this supposed fix, I'm getting rid of it and trading it in on a more reliable brand, but am concerned about the next person who ends up buying it. It's an obvious design flaw that has been going on with Jeeps for 2 decades and Jeep needs to go back to the drawing board and figure out a permanent long term fix. I have owned many vehicles in my life and I have never experienced this problem with other brands. It seems to be synonymous with the Jeep brand.
With less than 35,000 miles on a 2021 Jeep Wrangler, I have started to experience extreme shaking when going over a bump. Otherwise, known as the “death wobble”. The steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and could cause a serious accident while driving. I was told that the 2021 and newer models would not have this problem due to manufactures addressed the design flaw. Jeep has known about this issue for many years but has done nothing to make repairs or changes to the vehicle design. This is a huge safety concern because I could lose control of my vehicle while the steering shakes uncontrollably or cause an accident because the only way to stop the shaking is to quickly decrease speed. My vehicle was inspected by gillman Jeep in houston, texas.
Factory aluminum steering box presents a severe safety hazard and should be immediately recalled due to its dangerous failure in cold and probably all temperatures. In low temperatures, the steering sticks and does not move freely, making normal driving extremely hazardous for both the driver and others on the road. While straight roads may not reveal the issue, attempting to turn on a curve becomes life-threatening—the wheel sticks, preventing necessary maneuvering or it darts me in another direction. Once it finally releases, it can lead to overcorrection, which is especially perilous on slick, icy, or snow-covered roads. This issue occurs without warning, at any speed, and significantly increases the risk of crashes. Fca is aware of the problem and has issued a technical service bulletin 08-074-20 rev. , but this is not a recall—meaning owners are left at risk. Die pretty much or risk your family dying and others or just get into that accident so the insurance companies screw you as always and you are left with nothing-those insurance adjusters don't work for we the people. This failure causes me a to have a collision daily and a run-off-road accident while traveling with my family on the interstate. The safety implications are undeniable, and action must be taken before lives are lost. This is not just a mechanical flaw—it’s a critical safety failure that demands an urgent recall. Then add in the notorious shimmy/shake onset of a death wobble. You are going the speed limit/interatate highway speeds and go over a bridge and it's over-you better pray! when driving a low speed 53mph if the vehicle hits a bump, it will start bouncing and the steering wheel shakes too much until I stop and then everything comes back to normal. That situation is very frequently and very dangerous, because it happened to me many times while driving on a highway with a heavy traffic behind me including semi trucks. If I die in my Jeep due to malfunctions from company my family can sue.
I have been and currently experiencing the death wobble while going on high speeds on the freeway. It feels like my Jeep is out of control as the steering wheel shakes and the whole car shakes. I took it to the dealership where they just completed repairs for the shaking and put new suspension on. About two days later, I still experience the same shaking. There are no warning lights that come on.
- when driving on the highway, vehicle and steering wheel will shake uncontrollably if going over any bumps or grooves. Vehicle is available for inspection and is currently being inspected by nearest dealership. - car would begin shaking and steering wheel would begin shaking and locking up. - problem is currently being assessed by nearest Jeep dealership. - no warning signs or messages appeared prior to vehicle and steering wheel trembling. Problem first appeared 1/2/2024.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds and driving over a bump in the roadway or a pothole, the vehicle experienced a death wobble. No warning light was illuminated. The contact regained control of the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was inspected by a technician who noticed an abnormal play in the steering wheel. The inner and outer drag link and steering wheel were adjusted, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Upon reaching about 60 mph on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly began to shake violently, severely reducing my ability to steer and control the vehicle. After quickly (and dangerously) reducing my speed, it stopped, but it occurred again two more times. I pulled over and turned the car off, did a quick inspection and found nothing out of order. When I resumed my trip, the problem did not occur again. After getting home, I searched the internet and found out that my Jeep suffered from what is called the "death wobble". Apparently, Jeep has known about the problem for years and has not corrected this dangerous and scary defect.

Jeep Wrangler 2021 death wobble. This is the fourth time I’ve had a death wobble in two years out of nowhere. The vehicle will also of a sudden go into a shaking moving wobbling scenario, which feels completely unsafe to drive. I have brought this vehicle into Jeep four times in the past two years for this problem. I am requesting a buyback. They refuse to buy it back based on this very unsafe situation.
Jeep death wobble. Dealer is acting like this is an unknown issue.
While driving over 50mph, I encountered issues with stablization where the steering wheel would violently shift left and right, and the vehicles front tires were wobbling uncontrollably until lowering speeds below 30mph. After the dealer replaced the steering damper, I ran into this problem again but much worse as I was driving 70mph on the interstate. After almost losing control multiple times I was able to take back roads home. This is a huge safety issue as I had my baby in the vehicle and the issue is still occurring. Upon looking under the vehicle I noticed the steering damper free floating and the bolt was missing for the wheel. I'm not sure if the bolt assembly is bent but it appears the replacement by the dealer is inadequate.
Encountered the famous death wobble too often the last couple of weeks even at moderate speed of 45mph.
Driving at highway speed, approximately 65 mph. When vehicle drives over uneven section of pavement, for example when changing lanes, front end starts to vibrate violently and steering is compromised. Vibration persists until speed is reduce by approximately 10 mph. Vehicle is stock and has 11,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that upon accelerating on a main street to 55 mph, the vehicle started wobbling excessively. The contact continued to drive the vehicle with caution. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
This vehicle is a 2018 model with 27k miles, non of it off road. Upon driving a freeway a few days ago, the vehicle went into a violent vibration/shacking motion, aka "death wobble" that required immediate and dangerous driver action to keep from having a high speed (within legal limits) accident. In addition, the steering system sticking (stops and won't move) and wanders both left and right. The vehicle is dangerous to the occupants as well as other car/drivers in close proximity to this vehicle.
Our 2019 Jeep recently experienced the “death rattle” where the steering and suspension shake violently at speeds 65 mph and above. This recently occurred on a 70 mph freeway and nearly caused a sideswipe accident with a large semi as I was thrown from my travel lane. The Jeep owners forum (and fiat Chrysler America) know about this issue with the steering dampener, but neither the NHTSA nor fca has seen fit to issue a warning or recall. Our Jeep is never taken off-road and is under 60,000 miles. We are the original owners, and the Jeep is currently with the dealer.

= customer states that when hitting a bump they have the typical Jeep death wobble conditions?= found the vehicle to have play in all steering joints and the right front axle joint t9 have play. The vehicle has 31,000 miles on it and has never been in an accident. It started the "death wobble" oct 2024. I traveled to michigan, not realizing it was this bad, and it became worse over the course of our trip in November 2024. I was traveling at 70-75 mph on why and felt like it was going to fall apart. It took me slowing it down to stop the wobble. I took to a mechanic in ionia, mi which I had a extended warranty and paid it. I was told it was fixed. They replaced steering tie rod . . . Remove and replace components as required to access and install materials and/or perform needed service. Retest and verify repair as required. Perform final road test where applicable. 68258761ae - socket, tie rod 68258762ae - socket, tie rod 68522992aa- socket, drag link inner 68260466ab - adjuster assy, steering link 68258760ae - socket, drag link outer front axle. Outer joint on "fixed" Friday, November 29, 2024. I was trying to leave to return to south carolina on December 1, 2024, and I went onto the interstate. I was not maybe 1/4 mile, and the "death wobble" started again. I had to get off at the next exit and go back to my neices house. I have to take it back to the mechanic shop on Monday, December 2, 2024. I am stuck here in michigan, and I have a son whom I had to fly back to south carolina to go to school. Who gets to pay for my expenses and my issues? who do I contact for all of this now that this issue is chronic. ?.
When driving at freeway speeds, bumps in the road cause the "death wobble". This has occured on multiple occasions. The wobble remains until the Jeep comes to a complete stop.
Extreme vibration from front end at highway speeds. Commonly referred to as Jeep 'death wobble'. Occurred in 2022, steering damper replaced. Problem has reoccurred.
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the contact stated that whenever the vehicle was driven over a small pothole, the vehicle shook abnormally. In addition, the contact stated while driving over a bridge, the vehicle was driven over metal plates where the road and the bridge connected, and the vehicle shook violently. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the contact stated that due to the failure the contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,907.
In the three years I have owned this vehicle I have had the steering damper replaced to correct uncontrollable vibrating of the steering wheel, commonly referred to as the “death wobble”. The issue occurs when driving at highway speeds and requires the driver to quickly slow down to stop the “wobble”. There is no warning light or detection, and the issue come on quickly. The dealer has identified the problem with the remedy being replacement of the steering damper. While this does initially fix the symptoms, it does not correct the problem, as I have had three dampers replaced in 24 months. This is obviously only a bandaid and not the correct fix for this dangerous problem. My opinion is that a recall is needed to allow for a proper repair.
A shimmy in the steering wheel after hitting an irregularity on the road surface, also whenever I want to turn it does like a squirrelly is the best way I can put it. On uneven roads, bumps, dips, etc the Jeep pulls to one side or the other. Consequently the traction control light comes on and the Jeep loses power!.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the contact experienced failure known as the death wobble. The contact stated that the vehicle started shaking violently after driving over a bump in the roadway, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact regained control of the vehicle once the vehicle had slowed down and the shaking ceased. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the model year vehicle was not covered under recall. The contact was then informed that the steering wheel stabilizer needed to be installed to prevent the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. The contact stated that while on interstate 79, she traveled over a road seam driving at 60 mph with her son occupying the front passenger side seat. The vehicle violently shook. The steering wheel was uncontrollable. The contact stopped in the right-hand lane and turned on the hazard lights. The contact was able to continue driving, but the failure recurred. The front end of the vehicle began to shake violently while driving at 60 mph. The contact's husband researched the matter and determined it was a death wobble. While traveling over a bridge driving at 50 mph with her hazards on in the right lane, she traveled over a road seam, and the vehicle went into a death wobble. The driver came to a complete stop. While her husband was driving, the front end shook violently, and he reduced his speed to 10 mph. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced. The dealer informed her the parts were backordered. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
