The 1st time it happened I was getting on highway and went over a crack in road and my Jeep started vibrating violently. Totally scared me but once I slowed down it stopped so I figured it was a fluke thing. My hubby drove it to seattle and going 70 he went over grooved pavement and the shaking happened again. Third times a charm at 65 and didn't go over anything and it scared the crap out of me so bad I slowed down to 30 in a 60 in order for it to stop. Immediately contacted dealership and was told it would be hundreds of dollars and it isn't covered under warranty. I bought this Jeep brand new, only has 41,000miles and dont beat her up on off road because she is my daily driver. This violently shaking is scary and this could really do a new driver some harm and needs to be addressed and fixed in all Jeep vehicles.

I had gresham 4 wheel drive do several repairs on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler and the same day I drove it back home I experience death wobble which put me at risk by having me to stop at a highway to be able to control my vehicle which was extremely dangerous for me and other drivers. I have talked to the manager but he isn’t willing to have my vehicle towed to the shop and now I haven’t been able to drive my vehicle for a month now and have now lost hope of getting my vehicle fixed and safe to drive.

While driving under normal conditions, the vehicle suddenly became unstable and difficult to control. Steering response was abnormal, and the vehicle did not behave as expected, creating a loss of stability and control. The incident occurred without warning and required the vehicle to be towed. This event raised serious safety concerns, as the vehicle appeared prone to instability and unsafe operation. The vehicle has a history of repeated mechanical and safety-related issues that were previously addressed through warranty service but not resolved. Despite prior repairs, the unsafe condition persisted and culminated in this incident. The manufacturer was notified of the ongoing defects and safety concerns but did not provide corrective resolution beyond referring the vehicle back to dealership service.

I purchased this 2020 Jeep Wrangler from suntoyota car dealership in holiday, FL on [xxx]. There have been several ongoing concerning safety issues with this vehicle and the car dealership over the past year since I purchased it. My vehicle has had immediate malfunctions and service visits upon purchase. On 12/31/24, the car went to the shop for broken visor (as is) as listed on service invoice- during this same visit I explained that turn signals lights were not functioning properly- was told that it was too much labor and they are aftermarket lights that the dealership cannot fix- dealership did not attempt to rectify the issue at this time. Broken visor/turn signal lights did not function properly upon purchase of the vehicle. In February, the car had what is known as the “death wobble” on major highways [xxx] and [xxx] in florida, which was an extremely dangerous experience for all passengers in the vehicle. Invoice from 2/27/25 reflects suspension concern in regards to “death wobble” that was rectified, but again highly unsafe, and vehicle is beginning to shake again at high speeds as of December 2025. Invoice from 10/19/25 highlights the turn signal malfunction once again (it was never fixed from previous visit after purchase of vehicle and continued over several months). Car was taken back to dealer. Received call on 11/11 stating it was ready, to receive another call on my way there stating another issue with lights arisen. Received call on 11/12 stating it’s ready again, service advisor not present, and all lights flickering severely worse. Spoke to executive director, dylan, who stated “[xxx] things happen” and walked away. Vehicle stayed at dealership. (invoice from 11/12 highlights the turn signal issue again. ). Vehicle was returned to me on 11/28/25, where lighting and turn signals appeared to work properly. As of December 2025, the turn signals have malfunctions again. When I tried to get in contact with the dealership they didn't call back. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of inform.

The steering wheel shakes a high speeds over 70 on highways . I’ve had it in and have had the steering wheel replaced . Another time the dealer thought it was the “death wobble” then said they didn’t find anything wrong but said it was a problem with the battery making the car heavy . This problem was not occurring previously and I drive this car every day. It does not feel right or normal . I’ve had it in over 3 times and they have not been able to find or duplicate an issue . There is a death wobble issue with Jeep but I cannot get the dealership to help with the problem .

The steering and suspension suddenly vibrated the whole car violently for over two miles straight, steering is uncontrollable it feels as if the wheels of the Jeep were going to fall off. This is well known in the Jeep community as the death wobble. It is a safety issue as there is a loss of control of the car and causes the need to pull over or stop immediately which is hard to do on a fast moving interstate or highway like in my case.
My Jeep has 43,213 miles and my mechanic who I have used for over 30 years showed me that all 4 shocks are severely leaking and need replacing. I’m am 69 and only use this Jeep on the highway and zero off roading. This is most unusual for all 4 shocks to need replacing at such low miles.
Suddenly at 82,000 miles, my 2020 Jeep Wrangler sport s 4 door began shaking uncontrollably while I was driving. It was a terrifying experience. I took it to the mechanic and he replaced the steering damper. The uncontrollable shaking continued. The mechanic replaced the steering damper again. The shaking continues. I have had a wheel alignment and tires balanced. I am scared to drive the vehicle. I don't know what else to do, except trade it in?.
In the middle of driving, with the new update alert of uconnect box (I wasn't updating the uconnect), the car suddenly stops in the middle of the road and told me to shift to p (parking) to start while I am on d (driving mode), then, lost power and stopped. After turned it all the way off and back on, the cel came on. The car would drive, proceeded on and within a few minutes, it did it again. Loss of power and it is telling me to shift to p and press power to start.
Car shakes like crazy ( death wobble) expecially on highway from hitting a little bump or transition on road.

Problem description (very important): my 2018 Jeep Wrangler experiences a severe and violent front-end shaking commonly referred to as “death wobble. ” this occurs while driving at highway speeds and makes the vehicle difficult to control until I slow down significantly. The shaking feels dangerous and unpredictable and creates a serious safety risk. I transport my children in this vehicle, and this issue is frightening and unsafe for passengers and other drivers. My dealership states there is no recall, but I am aware of widespread consumer complaints, documented defects, and lawsuits involving death wobble in Jeep Wranglers, including the 2018 model year. I believe this is a known steering/suspension defect and not normal wear and tear. I am reporting this for safety reasons.
The car front end shakes at various times. It is intermittent, but it shakes from slight to severe on different occasions. The car has been to two dealerships and they drive car and cannot duplicate problem. . I read online it is common and is known as "the deadt wobble" Jeep acknowledges this but will not attempt to fix without duplicating the problem. . The car is still under warranty with 18000 miles. My concern is it should be fixed while under warranty and if warranty runs out it may fail and I will be stuck paying for the problem that should be fixed now. . This is my wifes car and we live in the mountains of nc. . This could be a very dangerous condition driving down the mountain in the rain and for this severe front end shaking. In my opinion it needs to be investigated with the possible recall to fix.
Vehicle shakes violently at 65-70 mph. We had the Jeep's front end aligned and it continues to shake.
Emergency break lever/pull tab gets stuck vehicle failed to start several times causing tows vehicle steering is loose and dangerous steering is hard to control on a bump uneven payment or snowy rainy weather conditions . Wheel is loose can’t teach my teenager how to drive in this to dangerous even for me.
I’m writing to ask for you all to honor the recall for my Jeep. I purchased a 2022 Jeep Wrangler in April of 2025 months after the purchase I began to notice that on certain road conditions that my vehicle would shake violently back and forth at higher speeds if I hit a bump. As you can tell this causes great concern for mine and my children's well being. My teen son is also driving my vehicle which is also a concern. I've had it looked at by multiple shops who all state that the vehicle has a recall on the steering damper as it can create a death wobble. I attempted to take it to the Jeep dealership in boulder, CO who refused to look at it stating my Jeep doesnt count. However the mechanic and online states that it will honor any Jeep that appears to have this issue to be looked at and fixed as you all were sued and claimed to have fixed the problem yet it still continues, and Jeep offers this as an extended offer for all Jeeps. Jeep is refusing to honor the extended recall. So I am filing a complaint to get this fixed as this issue is not of my doing, not wear and tear.
Subject: urgent safety complaint regarding Jeep with death wobble – purchased from maxon Buick GMC, union, NJ dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety issue involving a Jeep SUV I purchased for my son on [xxx], from maxon Buick GMC located in union, new jersey. The vehicle was purchased for over $30,000, and within the first day of driving, my son began experiencing what is commonly referred to as the "death wobble. " this violent shaking occurs unexpectedly while driving and has been happening every day since the vehicle was purchased. After doing some research, we learned that the “death wobble” is a known issue with certain Jeep models, and the symptoms are consistent with what my son has experienced. It is extremely frightening and dangerous, and I am deeply concerned for his safety and the safety of others on the road. I do not understand how a dealership is allowed to sell a vehicle in this condition. Selling a vehicle with such a potentially deadly defect is both irresponsible and unethical. This issue must be investigated and addressed immediately to prevent further risk to drivers and passengers. Please consider this an urgent request to look into this matter. I would appreciate confirmation of this complaint and any information on what steps will be taken to hold the dealership and manufacturer accountable. I have video while it's happening but unable to upload for some reason thank you for your time and attention to this critical safety issue. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On [xxx] while driving my 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport (VIN: [xxx] ), the braking system failed without warning while I was approaching a stop sign on a residential road. I pressed the brake pedal and felt extreme resistance and grinding, followed by a near-total lack of braking power. I was forced to abruptly swerve into an open driveway to avoid a collision. This sudden malfunction put my life and the safety of others at serious risk, especially had it occurred on a highway or near pedestrian traffic. The affected component appears to be part of the braking system—likely the master cylinder, brake booster, or brake line integrity—but a full diagnosis is pending inspection. There were no warning lights or messages displayed on the dashboard at any time prior to or during the failure. The vehicle gave no indication that a malfunction was imminent. Immediately after the incident, I parked the vehicle and did not attempt to drive it again. As of now, the issue has not yet been formally confirmed by a dealer, but I am in the process of getting it inspected by a certified independent mechanic, and I am willing to make the vehicle and its components available for inspection upon request. I also plan to provide documentation once the evaluation is complete. I only recently purchased this Jeep from carvana a few months ago, and it is extremely concerning that such a critical failure could occur so soon. The vehicle has two completed recalls related to steering and rear windows, but none that address braking—making this unexpected failure even more alarming. I believe this could indicate a larger pattern or potential defect that has not yet been officially acknowledged or addressed. This event was dangerous and could have resulted in a serious accident. I am requesting that this complaint be formally investigated, and I am open to cooperating fully with NHTSA, Chrysler, or any affiliated parties in reviewing the failure and addressing issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia).
Ivehicle shakes uncontrollably when hitting bump at speeds greater than 40 mph. This is called the Jeep death wobble and is a known issue for this Jeep technical service bulletin (TSB 02-004-21 rev a). The dealer will not diagnose or fix the.
After purchasing seems the VIN was updated with information I was not disclosed. The bcm has never worked correctly the instrument panel is erratic and even with a code reader showing p codes there’s no check light. The steering makes the entire vehicle jump over half a road. Blind spot monitors don’t know what to do sometimes they are unavailable, odometer has all 9s sometimes. I did all the checks on the vehicle at the time and what I was given showed I had a 2018 4 door sahara and that was what I was led to believe. After having issues and getting my registration I started looking at everything more because the dealer registered me as a commercial passenger truck(still don’t know why) but found a report that says moab/sahara and my seems my vehicles body chasis and motor are all over the place. I’m pretty sure the engine is failing as at one point in one of the reports I found it stated it failed emissions. But the overall worst is that the suspension looks like it came off the titanic compared to the body panels, there’s a lot of welding and rusted or “appearingly tampered” pieces in the chassis and the vehicle seems to be coming apart at every seam. I am currently not driving it because it looks to have sank down to where it could be dangerous I’m pretty sure the suspension, frame, and axles aren’t rated for what’s on it and sounded like something may be coming off at the wheel or axle area last time I did drive it. The vehicle I thought I was purchasing had safety guidelines and there is 2. 0 parts, 3. 6 parts on this along with random other countries parts. It was bought used “as-is” but not under the pretense that they assembled it by hand from leftovers. It wouldn’t pass safety standards or emissions in a foreign country much less in the united states. I am starting here but will be seeking legal counsel. No longer certain I even have a Jeep frame or chassis or just some panels stuck to a rusting timebomb. I’ve only drove like 8,000 miles. Now I’m scared to.
Statement of facts 1. I am the registered owner of a 2023 Jeep Wrangler rubicon (VIN: [xxx]), purchased for approximately $75,000 usd, inclusive of all taxes and registration, in cash. 2. I have been driving different cars for over 25 years and have owned multiple vehicles. This Jeep Wrangler is the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned, and the only one to cause severe safety issues for me and my family. 3. I primarily drive this vehicle on weekends with my two young children (ages [xxx] and [xxx]) seated in the rear seats. The persistent and unresolved mechanical issues with this vehicle have directly jeopardized our physical safety and my livelihood( I couldn’t go to work during many weeks) 4. There are new problems related to manufacturing defects that keep poping up every month since last 6 months while the car is only used for 25k and under basic warranty (example on top of serious death wobble issue , there are incidents of coolant issues, 95b safety recall, battery pack issues- refer below photos, in addition I have phone messages and videos of death wobble as evidence) issues and service history 4. At approximately 5,000 miles of use, the vehicle began exhibiting significant technical issues. 5. The first major defect was related to the battery pack, which rendered the vehicle inoperable. The dealership held the vehicle for approximately two months in 2023 to address this issue. 6. Over the last six months, the vehicle developed a recurring and dangerous condition widely referred to as the "death wobble" – a violent and uncontrollable shaking of the vehicle while driving on the freeway. 7. This defect has occurred multiple times, forcing me to immediately pull over on the freeway, placing me, my children, and surrounding drivers at serious risk of harm or collision. 8. I have documented multiple instances of the death wobble via video and have submitted evidence to both: othe Jeep dealership ojeep customer care / fca us llc 9. Despite my repeat information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
This vehicle is not suitable for driving, it has suspension, alignment, brake and speed problems. I was about to have an accident, I was going down an avenue and suddenly the wheels stopped and the car began to move from one side to the other and I lost stability of the steering wheel and the car, putting my life and the lives of my family (my girlfriend and my mother) at risk, luckily I did not cause an accident because there was no car in the side lane . . . It is impossible to drive this car, the next day I took the car to a detailed inspection at a mechanical workshop specialized in Jeeps and indeed it has serious and serious problems with the car. There are images where the lights on the dashboard are on and the engine is also overheated . . . For this reason, I decided to return the car to the dealer and file the report as evidence of this defective car and dangers to driving . . .

My 2019 Jeep Wrangler sahara with 2. 0 liter turbo engine has had two failed “rear axle assemblies or differentials” within 3 years of each other. The first time was in July 2022, and my service repair order says rear diff replacement. Now this time, my dealer is saying we need the whole rear axle assembly which is on national back order. No current eta for delivery, with no additional info other than none are even in production at this time. Since my vehicle is under warranty for another 4,000 miles or so, I would like to use stellantis warranty for my repair. However, they are no help and are saying we cannot order a different oe part, or a used part. The vehicle is unsafe to drive as I can feel my loss of control especially on wet roads in florida. After searching the internet I have found this is a common problem with the sport, and sahara versions from 2018-2025. Now that we can’t even get replacement parts, it creates a whole other set of problems. I would like to mention everything is factory on my Jeep and I have never been off roading. Not even once. So 2 failed rear axles is just unacceptable.

Due to the track bar, steering damper and struts failing after less than 28k miles, the Jeep is now exhibiting the previously investigated "death wobble" causing a dangerous driving condition when exceeding 55mph. While driving, the vehicle began to shake so violently causing me to almost lose control and drive into oncoming traffic. The only way to stop the shaking was to have to stop suddenly on a 2 lane road and pull off on to a very dangerous shoulder. After taking the vehicle to the selling dealership, I was informed that although I am within the warranty limits for mileage I have passed the time frame for them to be able to cover the repair costs. The service advisor did agree that it is a known issue with Jeeps and that I was just "unlucky enough to get a bad Jeep". There were no warning lights, symptoms or any other possible warnings prior to the first occurrence in June of 2025.
I was driving about 65 mph and was turning with the road and my Jeep started to shake violently. I just about lost control of the vehicle. I pulled over on the interstate to check and see if I had a flat on a front tire or if the wheel was falling off of the Jeep. It was a very scary and unpleasant experience to have at 4:30 am going to work. Not sure what the problem is with the suspension or steering, but I thought for sure I was going to get in a wreck and traffic is really heavy which would have been very bad for many drivers!.
The car started to shake uncontrollably at highway speed without warning. Steering was very difficult. It was difficult to even see out of the vehicle due to extreme shaking. The car is going to the dealer to be examined. This is a low mileage daily driver, completely stock, with no modifications.
Complaint summary: severe, dangerous steering oscillation (“death wobble”) while driving at highway speeds. Violent shaking after hitting a bump on highway 94 in minneapolis caused near loss of control. Forced to pull off the road to avoid an accident. Defect recurred continuously, requiring speeds of 25–55 mph for an 800-mile trip to canada and the entire return trip. This is a known defect documented in ea18-002 and multiple class actions. Description: I was driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler (VIN [xxx] ) eastbound on highway 94 in minneapolis when the front suspension began shaking violently after hitting a bump. The oscillation was so extreme that I thought the vehicle would veer out of control. I had to pull off the road immediately. The shaking recurred with every bump and forced us to drive extremely slow for the remainder of our trip (25–55 mph for over 800 miles each way). This created a major safety hazard during our long-distance travel. After returning home, I drove 90 miles to billion Jeep in sioux falls, where a certified Jeep mechanic diagnosed it instantly as the “death wobble” and stated it was a known recurring defect. I had to pay for repairs out of pocket. Despite the severity of this defect, Chrysler capital still demanded a $395 disposition fee even though the vehicle was unsafe. I paid it under protest to avoid credit repercussions. Jeep has known of this defect for years (ea18-002, tsbs, class action flynn v. Fca us llc), yet it continues in 2023 models. This is a major safety concern and could cause loss of control at highway speeds. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Unknown Jeep has been violently shaking uncontrollably while driving. Speed of driving has been between 30-75mph.
When 4h on transfer case is on,the front tire wobble when turning even in a slow driving speed. Also suspension is very horrible when the vehicle is running on an uneven pavement driver and passenger were like being shaken inside left to right vise versa .
My Jeep's steering is excessively loose. There is a good amount of dead space in the steering wheel that the vehicle does not respond. The vehicle wonders left to right constantly and have to continue to correct for it's action. It becomes more of a safety hazard when there is a slight wind or passing or being passed by a larger vehicle like a truck for instance. The vehicle also shifts let and right depending on road conditions, meaning cracks in the pavement or pot holes of any size. I feel very unsecure or unsafe particularly at higher speeds. Please help and thank you in advance.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 35-60 mph, the vehicle was wobbling. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wobbling was caused by the damper, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v741000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
This is a 2021 Jeep with 23,000 miles on it. We inherited the Jeep after my father in law that passed away a few months ago. My wife was coming from hampton virginia going through the [xxx]. She hit a bump in the tunnel at 55 miles in hour and the steering wheel stated to shake. Se managed to slow down and the shaking slowed down to were she could get out of the tunnel. The vehicle was towed home. After reading some articles about this problem "death wobble" I contacted the local Jeep dealer on military highway in norfolk va. The service department told my wife it would be 250. 00 to look at the problem and would return the 250. 00 it its under warranty. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was almost killed when my Jeep did the death wobble at 70 mph on the freeway. It violently shook out of control while I was in the fast lane of the freeway without warning. I had no control over the steering wheel, and it was pulling me towards the freeway wall. Slowing the car down was very difficult because it was jerking around so violently. I got off the freeway very slowly with my hazards on. A pickup truck followed me off the freeway to make sure I was ok. He said the tires were going crazy, and everybody saw it. It was an 18 wheeler next to me, and I could have died. I only have abt 30,000 miles. Now I’m selling it, because I’m terrified. I live in michigan, if there was snow or ice it definitely would have been tragic. It’s in the shop under warranty, but Jeep dealership telegraph rd in southfield said something was bent and it was my fault why it went out of control. But whatever is bent, got bent from the violent shaking. I didn’t even hit anything. This happened on Thursday on the way to work, when I first got on the freeway it shook a little, and I was getting ready to pull over, then it stopped. 5 mins later that’s when the death wobble occurred. I took it to Jeep around a year ago when it was shaking. They said it didn’t do it, and nothing was wrong.
Death wobble. While driving at freeway speeds hitting a road bump my Jeep went into a severe uncontrollable shaking wherein the entire car was moving sideways and in an up and down motion. I did some research online and found this condition to be a common Jeep Wrangler problem. I brought the car to the dealer and they said it is a known problem with the steering damper. In my research online, many believe the problem is the tie rod, drag link and ball joints are the cause and the steering damper just masks the symptoms until it wears out. I had a third party off road repair shop look at the suspension parts and they noted the drag link had play within the bushings and recommended it be replaced. Upon not visit to the dealer, I asked them to check it out and they said everything was fine except the steering damper was bad. I had the replace the steering damper. I am still getting a shaking vibration at freeway speeds while hitting a bump in the road. It is not as severe but it definitely shakes the steering wheel and the vehicle enough to be concerned that something is wrong with the suspension. If you search death wobble you will find the exact condition I am experiencing. Jeep says everything is okay with the vehicle and yet I am still experiencing a vibration. My warranty expires 5/29/25. Thank you [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
