1 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

I started my car and attempted to pull out of the driveway when the engine light turned on and the car began to shake. I stopped the car, kept the engine on and let it sit for a 5 minutes and warm up. I put it in drive again and made it 1 block when the engine light started blinking, the engine began to sputter, and smoke was seen coming out of the muffler and hood of my Jeep. I opened the hood only to be consumed with the smell a gas. When the tow truck driver arrived, he explained that I was very lucky as the car engine would have caught on fire if I would have continued to drive one more block. The dealership initially thought it was the fuel igniter, as it was found stuck open. They ended up replacing the wiring for the electrical system that controlled the igniter instead. So far it's running fine.

2 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1999 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

1st issue: the dash gauges will go off and on intermittently. I have fought with this problem for years now. The dealer of course doesn't know what I'm talking about. Never heard of it. I have completely removed the dash looking for problems. Bad grounds? I can't tell where. I suspect the plugs the cluster slips into. I've tried to pull the mounts closer for a better connection. It seamed to work for a while. Then it comes back. A good sound beating on the dash brings them back on. Amazing what that plastic will take. All this started after the warranty expired. I refuse to take it in and pour money at it till they figure it out. All I want is to know how to fix the gauges. I'm about ready to cut the wires and solder them directly on. 2nd issue: I began smelling plastic burning or something. Later the heater fan quit working. After some reading of the service manual, I checked a lot of parts and found the control/selector switch unit heated up and partially melted the wiring harness as well as burnt inside the unit. Bought another and replaced it. Works great now. All the fan positions work again. This switch has to be replaced so often I just leave the screws from the center dash panel off. Every 99 Jeep Wrangler owner I know has the exact same problems. Does someone have to die before there is a fix/recall? nothing like driving down the road and smell an electrical fire when you are 100 miles from anyone.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

I bought my 1997 Jeep Wrangler in June, 2002 from a used car dealer in baltimore, MD with an as-is warranty and was told the vehicle had passed inspection and was in good condition. It had 64,000 miles on it and appeared to be good. Since then I have had nothing but problems with this Jeep. First the wiring harness, then the transmission, now a diagnosis to replace the intake and exhaust manifold, replaced fuel pump and has a faulty fuel gauge, and possibly the stabilizer bar or steering components. This Jeep is costing me more in repairs than the actual value of it. I fear that it is unsafe and that I m facing more expenses if I keep it, but I am still making payments on it. Do I have any recourse as far as lemon law protection, recalls, help!!! I don't know what to do with it.
