Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Optima based on all problems reported for the Optima.
E - c v v t seal seating issue. My 2016 kia Optima is giving an obd ii error code of p0010 "a" camshaft position actuator circuit. This causes reduction in power during acceleration, and elevates engine idle speeds to 1200-1400 rpm. This elevation in engine speed causes the car to try to move forward even when the brakes are pressed in stop and go traffic. In stop and go traffic, this could easily lead to vehicle crashing. This, I believe, should be a part of recall instead of a technical service bulletin from the manufacturer. Hyundai and kia use same engine, and has a TSB number 15-01-022-1, and kia has a TSB to change the motor plug and ecvvt cover for it. They are aware of this issue in their car, and it should be a recall. When the car was in motion for me the first time the check engine light came on, I almost hit a car in front of me as the engine does not go back down to idle speeds. This is dangerous.

Driving to work at about 70 mph on the freeway car lost power, check engine light turned on. Had to have the car towed off the freeway. Took to dealership & they couldn't duplicate the problem after having my car for a week gave it back & said nothing was wrong with it. Vehicle only had about 10. 5k miles.

Vehicle was in motion when check engine light came on, car was driveable but idling rough. Brought vehicle to shop for diagnosis. Engine had following codes show up once diagnosed. P0014 - b camshaft position - timing over-advanced or system performance. P0017 - crankshaft position - camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor b. After diagnosis mechanic found faulty oil control valve, part actually had a piece of the screen had been dislodged leaving a circular hole. Other piece of screen was never found. Once replaced engine still had a code, stated cam shaft position sensor was faulty. Mechanic replaced that part and finally code cleared for engine.

On interstate 675 north-GA car stalled, lost power to the engine, eps light, check engine light, oil light came on on the instrument panel, no power steering. I had to cross two lanes of interstate traffic to try to make it safely to the shoulder. My car wouldn't turn over or start. I let the car sit for an hour and tried again to start it. I received no notice of any recalls from the dealer or the manufacturer. It was a dangerous situation to be in on the interstate or anywhere for that matter.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 kia Optima hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55-60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated, there was a knocking in the engine, the oil level warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to lose motive power. The contact was able to get the vehicle safely off of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to southwest kia - austin, 13175 us-183 n, austin, TX 78750, (512) 583-1900, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed by the service department that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,200. Ah.
When driving down the highway after tappin my breaks to slow down, when we went to accelerate to the speed again my car started flashing the check engine light and wouldn't go over 2000 rpms. Now in a limp mode. Got the vehicle home and sure enough there is metal in my engine.
My 2013 kia Optima ex with a 2. 4l. . . I was drivin down the interstate and check engine light came on and car went into a lemp mode. Had car scaned code is p1326 same as other kias same yr looked online to see if I had recalls on my car and there is not.
Until now (only 84k miles), my 2012 kia Optima hybrid has been a great car. When leaving a driveway going about 15mph, a light tapping began when the gas engine started. A sound it was not making when driving under electric power (before the engine started). The sound quickly grew to a loud knocking, accompanied by a noticeable loss of power and throttle response. The check engine light never turned on, even after the engine blew up. All signs are pointing to a manufacturing defect, similar, if not the same as the one regarding metal filings being left on the block. This is the same engine model and year that triggered over . 5m cars being recalled. Now the same issues are happening with this model, which for some reason wasn't included. A modern and well-serviced car should last more than 84k miles. This will be a safety hazard until all models containing these engines are repaired.
The kia gave no warning about the car having issues about the engine when I was driving home from work it gave me the error hybrid battery not charging to pull over and stop driving when I had it checked I was told it was not the hybrid that it could be something else the car turns on put wont move even if I put it in drive or in reverse it won't move no check engine light but the hybrid batter not charging and the specialist I had come check the car told me its not the hybrid battery he changed the battery to see it would work but the car still won't move.
Check engine light is blinking, there is a noticeable decrease in power, and it jerks out of first gear. Took it to autozone for a free diagnostic which was p1326. All fluid are in order. Milage is 123,000. This happened when I was driving he fr work.
There was a recall on the kia Optimas for the tod bearings in the engine. I had the recall done on April 8 2019. As of 7/22/19 the same code p1326 and symptoms arw are happening again which are check engine light blinking the car is in limp mode the car was smoking and it can't go over a certain speed.

While my significant other and I were driving down the highway our car began smoking from under the hood, then smoke began coming through the air vents inside the car; within seconds we seen flames coming out from under the hood and immediately evacuated the vehicle in heavy traffic with no where to pull over. Within minutes the entire car was engulfed in flames. There was no warning, our car was regularly maintained, there were no check engine lights or others displaying on the dash, no leaks or overheating to cause this.
Was driving on the freeway at about 55 mph, got in lane 4 to exit the highway when my engine just turned off. I drifted to the side of the highway and tried to restart the engine. When I tried to restart the engine smoke started to come from the engine. Towed the vehicle to the dealership where they stated that they would call me with any updates (this was after telling me that it would cost $165 to diagnose). Just got the ecu updated approx. 6 months ago. No check engine light or anything popped up on the dash, just got the oil changed 06/15/2019. There are approx. 118k miles.
While I was driving probably about 45 miles an hour or so my car started to shake really hard then it shut off. Once it shut off the low oil light came on along with the check engine light and the low battery light as well. After that the car went completely dead. I turned the key to the off position and then tiredness it back on with with no problem. For my car to shut off while driving on a major street causes major concerns. One what if it happens again and I get in an accident or cause an accident.
While driving on westbound 696 at approx 70 mph, the engine stalled. Check engine light blinking. Engine mileage 120,794 recall service performed at kia dealer at 116,214 miles.
Engine recall. Dealership first received vehicle repair March 4, 2019 for complete engine replacement due to recall and car become completely immobile while on freeways. And towed to dealership. Dealership informed me first engine failed and reordered a new engine. Received vehicle back from 2nd attempt of engine repair may 16, 2019. Vehicle check engine light illuminated may 31,2019. Returned vheicle back to dealership. Repair to harness and noc sensor. Received vehicle back for repair June 8th. On June 10th vehicle became immobile again while driving out of parking lot and towed to dealership for repair. Waiting on dealership for details of car problems.
I had the recall completed in Dec 26, 2018 March 2nd 2019 the car went into limp mode and I followed the instruction per Kia Motor group to have it towed to the nearest kia dealer I was told it was a wiring harness knock April 19, 2019 I picked up my car only to get it a few miles and then returned it due to the check engine light started blinking again and it went into limp mode I was told they had ordered the wrong wiring harness and would order the correct one. May 3, 2019 picked up my car and it seemed to be ok until may 14th check engine light came on and went into limp mode so returned to bob moore kia Aug 1, 2019 picked up my car and this time they said they changed the knock sensor. My car was good until oct 17, 2019 again check engine light came on and it went into limp mode, my care again is a bob moore kia. I have a case with Kia Motor, they have assigned me a person named melissa and she has all but told me to deal with someone to trade or report as a lemon, she asked me what I wanted and when I said to help me get this traded without being upside down since was in shop and will never get what I should for it and she said it is up to me to deal with a dealer. I also called kia repair department 10/25/19 and was told they are putting my car on the back burner and it seems that they are not in any hurry to help me get it fixed, the only thing I can say is I do have a loaner to drive.
I own a 2013 kia Optima, the check engine light came on and the engine started to misfire while driving on the highway. The temperature outside at the time was -50 with the windchill. I had the vehicle towed to the repair shop and they called me to let me know that the #2 cylinder was junk. They thought it was just a bad coil pack but when switched to the #1 cylinder the misfire code didn't follow the coil pack, it code stayed at cylinder #2 even with a brand new plug. The spark plugs had been replaced in September 2018, the same issue that caused the plugs to fail in September when the plugs were changed out happened again on this occasion (February 6, 2019). I was informed by the service manager at the kia repair shop that there was an update to the ecm that needed to be done to prevent this from happening, but when I contacted kia to see if they would cover the repair of the vehicle because the update was not performed kia refused to cover the replacement of the engine, which is the only solution because the spark plug failed and blew apart in the cylinder because the ecm update was performed. When I asked kia why the repair was not being covered they stated that they were not allowed to disclose that information to me and that it was proprietary information. I opened a case number (13034007) with kia and asked them to provide me with information as to why they won't cover the repair and they have yet to respond back to me, it is now February 12 and haven't received a response. I also received information stating that my warranty would be extended to 10 years, 100,000 miles but kia isn't honoring that warranty in this circumstance. My vehicle currently has around 89,000 miles on it. I am currently still paying a loan on this vehicle and it's not drivable, it currently sits parked until this gets resolved.
On January 24, 2019, my car had to be towed to shakers kia in watertown CT again. I had been in CT visiting family when I got stuck there due to car issues. I dropped my car off December 7, 2018 for an engine replacement due to a recall and I got it back December 31, 2018. I drove my car home to nc on January 4, 2019 and came back 2 weeks later for my son's surgery scheduled for January 23. On January 22, three weeks after I got my car back, my check engine light came on and my car went into limp mode while driving and had to be towed to shakers kia. They texted me at 9:08am January 23 with a link to a video saying my car was ready. I picked it up around 5pm after my son's surgery. I didn't have the car 4 hours when it did the same thing again and had to be towed. Shakers told me that I was gonna be responsible for replacing my throttle body because I still have old components from my old engine and my throttle body was part of that. I didn't understand how I have old components if my engine was replaced, so I called kia headquarters. Shakers replaced my throttle body, no cost to me. Well, when I picked my car up on January 30, I asked about the fuel leak recall and if my car was inspected as kia told shakers to check mines even though my VIN number wasn't included because my car needed to be checked because my engine was replaced due to the recall. I was told by the technician hector that my car was fine and it didn't need to be inspected because he was very confident in his work. He stated that people were having engine fires because mechanics don't know what they're doing and are installing the engines wrong. My car doesn't run the same after having my engine replaced. It runs and idles rough. I put in numerous calls to kia about issues with my car and I'm told over and over again that my case manager will call me but it's been weeks and she hasn't called yet.
My check engine light keeps coming on. At first it would go off and on with no code. Now it stays on with the code p0420 for the catalytic converter. Also I heard about an air bag recall.

Engine failure. . Bought in 2013 w 14,000 miles. Currently has 68,000. Check engine light came on last year. Kia would only pay for 1 spark plug. Then,l paid to have a new fi system put in. L was never reimbursed. Dec 20,driving down a busy highway w my kids and engine shuts off with no warning. Then, the check engine light came on along with weird smells of gas and burning. Took it to the dealer and no issue. Took it back again on Dec 21,but no techs available. Dec 23,l was driving my kid to work, engine shook, check engine light came on flashed and a big boom. Car was going 5mph while it was clicking. L got it towed(after Kia Motors had the audacity to try to make me pay for a tow@99. 00,but l refused)thru my insurance CO. As the car sat,a big cloud of smoke came from the engine,we though that it was catching on fire. Called Kia Motors. . . . Omg,the worst. L just got a rental today and approved for engine replacement after multiple phone calls. My brother bought his Optima brand new in 2003 and same thing happened in 2 months. Kia continues to not resolve his dangerous issue and l am afraid to drive it,let alone have my kids in it.

I was traveling at 65 mph on a straight and level highway in my kia Optima (which has less than 60,000 miles), the check engine light came on and I lost all power. I could have lost my life. Car was towed to local repair shop who determined that vehicle needed to be brought to a dealer. Barry henderson, the repair shop manager, said there is a possible wiring issue and if the wiring is okay, the engine needs to be replaced. He told me they couldn't repair so the car was towed to hyman brothers kia in midlothian, va. All required maintenance has been done on this car and hard copies of all of the service records have been place on the front passenger seat as proof.
2015 kia Optima with approx 68,000 miles. Going up hill up a ramp to merge onto highway around 40 mph when the check engine light illuminated and would no longer accelerate. Shortly after, the oil and battery lights illuminated and car coasted as far as possible into shoulder as I could. Car would not restart. Sat on the on-ramp for quite a while partially blocking traffic and almost had some near miss accidents from other drivers passing and honking at me. Towed to kia dealership same morning. Tech believes my engine has seized but no official diagnosis. They provided me with a loaner car at no charge. I am original owner and hope kia will replace my engine at no cost and buy my car back. I am scared of the vehicle fires that are happening with these engines for other people. My car gave me no failure warning until it was too late.
Waste gate rod goes out of correct specs causing loss of power on vehicle. Not able to accerlerate from take off while check engine light stays illuminated.
Sxt model 82k miles. Was driving on the highway and was accelerating to move into right lane when the engine cutoff. I was able to coast to the shoulder luckily without getting hit. The car would power on but the engine would not start at all. Check engine light and oil light were lit up. Called for tow. The next morning kia evaluated the car the next morning and told me it was affected by the engine and cooling recall 17v224000. I had taken my car in months prior for the same recall but was told that I was not affected. This is a very dangerous thing to have happen to drivers especially after being told you are not affected.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact powered off the engine, the vehicle failed to restart. In addition, the contact also stated that the ignition switch failed to start when attempted to drive. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,018. Aw.
I have been having repeated issues following the kia theta ii engine recall replacement (sc147) since June 2018. My car is practically new with 53k +/- miles, purchased new, and had all the recommended and required maintenance performed. I took my car to rick case kia (dealer code:ga083) to have my engine replaced midsummer 2018. Since then I have been experiencing persistent check engine light (cel) issues for the same engine diagnostic code(p2191). Each time I take my car to the dealer for resolution, technicians give me different reasons for what they "think" could be the root issue. Thus far, I have been told the issue was due to bad gas, an O2 sensor gone bad, a leak, history code from another dealer not clearing the recall, and now a fuel kit will be replaced. It is my assumption that if kia technicians truly knew what the issue was I would not have so many repeated trips for the same issue. To this date(December 14th 2018) they still have not provided a clear resolution. In light of recent events surrounding kia vehicles, specifically Optima, catching on fire and engines randomly blowing up this is something that needs an immediate resolution. It impacts my safety as the vehicle owner and those driving around me. I have expressed how uncomfortable I am driving this car in the current state (with the engine light on) and my concerns are being dismissed. I am told that it is not a drivability issue and I can drive it away with the light on. It should be no surprise why that is not a comforting diagnosis as I have been back about 6-7 times now. I am currently making attempts to engage/escalate this with the kia corporate office. In an attempt to be proactive I am seeking help!.
Driving down a city street less than a mile from my home, the car stalled just before the intersection. I could not restart the engine. There were no oil or check engine warning lights showing. I coasted to a parking space and checked the battery. All the lights worked but the engine would not turn on. I had the car towed to the kia dealer. They checked the car and said it was my fault because there was no oil in the car. I had the oil changed at 50,000 miles and the car has 56,000 miles on it. The car is still under 60,000 miles so the warranty should still be good but they refuse to fix it they did not give me a loaner car because kia refuses to pay for the engine. There is a recall on the ecu logic upgrade (ksds) which they installed in September 2018 along with a catalytic converter replacement, they are using any excuse so they don't have to pay.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. And received a NHTSA recall letter for an engine issue. The vehicle was taken to the dealer sunset kia of bradenton 4770 14th st w, bradenton, FL 34207(941) 752-1000 who tested the engine and said it passed the test. The contact had stated before the test that his engine had been stuttering. The dealer said that it was because the vehicle had not oil. The contact had just had an oil change. The dealer stated that they saw no metal shavings while conducting the test. The check oil light had not illuminated for the contact. About a week later the engine seized in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer who said the contact needed a new engine due to a recall and the engine was replaced . The contact's check engine light came on and it was towed to another dealer and some more recalls were discovered. The dealer found a deteriorated clamp that caused the hose to become loose that caused the engine to jolt. The repairs were done but there was no mention of the deteriorated clamps on the invoice. The contact picked up the vehicle and the air bag light was on and the dealer stated that it was like that way when the contact bought the vehicle back in. The contact smelled gas and the discovered the fuel pump gushing fuel . The contact researched that this issue was caused by the initial engine replacement and the brake booster hose was not properly secured. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was 86,000. Tf.
Since purchase this car has continued to have engine issues , oil issues and check engine light on and off. It's a real concern to me and since this continues the air bag sensors keep coming on. This car was purchased in 2017 from dealership. This started occurring mid January 2018 and had gotten progressing. This cannot be normal. I received a red recall notice and have since been informed that there are no recalls on this 2014 kia Optima. This is very concerning to me ! this car obviously has serious issues. The vehicle is reading this as there are messages alerting me on the display and through the digital system.

Check engine light is on code reads high pressure fuel pump. When starting the car it is very sluggish and has fluttering rpms for the first 10 15 minutes when driving the car is jerky and hesitant to accelerate. There is currently a active recall on the high pressure fuel pump but my VIN is not listed under the recall even though it was listed on the engine recall. Was told I did not need a new engine but was given an oil change abs new oil pan and the problem started shortly after.
The engine started knocking two months ago and yesterday the check engine light came on while driving on the highway resulting in the car shutting off with no warning.
