During a commute to worksite the car was driving normally for the first 10 miles. No sounds, no dash lights illuminated. No signal that anything was wrong. As I drove normally through the route, I entered the highway and accelerated to nearly 65 mph. After a moment or so of driving the car suddenly felt as if the engine had no power. I pulled my foot off the gas, then I checked the dash lights, I made sure the vehicle was in the proper automatics mode and not manual (it felt like it was thrown into neutral or a lower gear), I also verified cruise control was off. Everything seemed fine. I pressed the gas to accelerate back up to speed and the car began shaking very vigorously. Then the engine light came on. Because I was not in a safe area to stop, I tried to coast to the nearest exit. I imagine I was coasting and accelerating intermittently (for only a few seconds at a time) for anywhere from one-half to two miles before the next exit. It is hard to guess the distance because it was dark during the incident. Once I made it to the exit, the engine was no longer providing power at all - meaning I would press the gas and nothing would happen. The car would not move, the engine would not even rev. I called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealership. The dealer said that because the car did not have a code of p1326 that the issue was not covered under kia's extended engine warranty. I am trying to fight for them to honor the warranty. No luck so far. They quoted a $7500 repair. Car is perfectly maintained. I just put new spark plus and a new serpentine belt on 9 weeks ago (at the kia dealership of course- only place I do maintenance at).

My car loses power when I use the horn. It happens while parked with the engine on and in traffic. Initially, I thought it was faulty electrical problem because there were 3 active recalls needing to be fixed. I recently took my vehicle to a certified kia service center to get the recalls taken care of and additonally, had the a/c compressor, struts, and a belt replaced. I also described the issue of engine power loss when I use the horn with service tech and attempted to demonstrate. However, my car didn't duplicate the issue. I'm not sure if the techs tested it thoroughly during the days it was being serviced. The final detailed bill states that the car wouldn't duplicate the issue. I'm currently satisfied with the fixed recalls, a/c, belt, and other minor repairs. I'm highly concerned and frustrated that I'm still experiencing engine, acceleration, rpm, and a/c failure whenever I need to use my horn. A couple of days ago while in traffic, I had to blow the horn because a distracted driver nearly side swiped me. As a result, my car loss power. I couldn't accelerate and the transmission wouldn't shift. I ended up doing around 30mph until I made it to a safe destination. I called for help, but after I turned the car off and back on, it was as if it never happened. I'm furious about it because the distracted driver proceeded to tailgate and intimidate me out of anger. Lastly, it was not professional or caring to be laughed at when I voiced this problem at the service center. I need help and answers before something more terrible happens. The number of engine and electrical complaints are startling. I'm hoping that my issue will be taken seriously and looked into. I'm not comfortable driving my car.

We were driving on a city street slowing down for a signal. The car stalled and a message came up saying to tow the vehicle to the dealer. We had the car towed 4 miles to the dealer. No other lights came on indicating any problems. The dealer told us while they were checking for the problem the engine ceased up. Then they said the belt had come off. I think the engine ceased causing the belt to come off. Trying to figure out if this has anything to do with the engine problems kia has been having.

I experience a bms warning light on my hybrid vehicle indicating to stop the vehicle and do not drive. This happen on the fast lane of the 14 freeway in acton CA. I took the car to the local kia I was told it was the hybrid coolant a computer program and a hybrid drive belt replaced the computer program. The update of the program I would of not know about the issue since only dealers are aware of it. I paid over 700. 00 when I picked up my car for the repairs. Drove it the next day I experience loss of power again when I was trying to cross an intersection in the city of acton. My car almost stop and the hev warning light came on. Called the dealer again and was told to bring it right away. The service advisor called me after a week and half later and told me the problem was the power relay assembly and the hybrid battery that had to be replaced. Per repair adviser, this issue is a common but for him to do the repairs I would need to pay 5800. 00. He did advise to call kia corporation for possible assistance but they were no help. Since I can not afford the 5800. I picked up my car again from the dealership and paid an additional 318. 00 for diagnose services. This is a known issue with kia since the service adviser told me he only had a bulletin memo of possible issues with loss of power. I asked if this warrant a recall but the answer was no since it's only a memo and the batteries are built to last only 150,000 miles I was lucky it lasted and additional 18000. Miles. I just bought this vehicle 3 years ago and now I'm sitting on a giant paper weight since I can not drive my car to avoid further damage or possibly cause an accident.

We were getting off the highway headed home the car made a loud noise as we were approaching the light one I've never heard before I didn't think anything of it so as we pulled off from the light got down the street the car just locked up and shut off like there was a flash of light or something coming from the hood and it didn't want to stop scared me and my kids so after I made sure everything was okay I waited til we stopped put it back in park and turned my key back over to pull over out the street fully so I can check it there it was my alternator bracket broke without a clue why no physical contact or anything whatsoever alternator is not damaged neither was the belt on it bad I know that when I took it to a mechanic and that's another thing no one nowhere could give me and answer for it so it's like it overheated it off and broke the engine piece my only theory nothing else is damaged around it or anything so that's weird for a piece to just break so I did research on the kia Optima and stumbled across the overheation and the fueling problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle jerked and felt as though something had blown out and was making a rattling sound coming from the engine. The contact coasted to the side of the roadway. The contact became aware of an oil leak. The vehicle was towed to kia of cerritos (18201 studebaker rd, cerritos, CA 90703), and was diagnosed that the engine belt was melted and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that she would receive a callback. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Engine caught fire! had picked the kia Optima up the day before from the dealership, where they had installed a new engine, belts, and hoses. Had driven 40 minutes for a doctor appt. Got off the freeway. As I was approaching the light (about 3 blocks from freeway), noticed gray smoke coming from under hood on passenger side. With a broken left arm, had to get out and across traffic. Saw the flames as I was crossing the street. In under a minute, the front of car was engulfed in flames.

I recently had my car repaired for the turbo fuel line which was a recall and snapped in my. This was repaired however ever since that now my turbo is not working and I have very little pickup when I accelerate. Also my seatbelt light keeps coming on stating that my seatbelt is not connected when it is. And this problem will recover for a short period of time and happen again in a few days.
My Optima has 104,000 miles. Just last week while driving on wet roads, I lost control as the power steering stopped working. The battery light comes on during this period for between 5-30 seconds as you loose almost all control of your vehicle's steering. Just as your vehicle gains power steering again, a screeching sounds comes from the engine compartment (maybe belts re-engaging). It has been raining her the past week and the issue has happened about 8 times. Sometimes directly after driving through puddles, and sometimes just while driving. The issue only occurs though when the roads are wet. This is a major safety issue.

Driving the vehicle down the feeder road of the beltway going about 40 to 45 miles per hour with no warning lights displayed or anything wrong and running normally then out of blue the engines sputters shudders and dies. This vehicle was a change the oil every 3,000 mile vehicle. I was fortunate to have an apartment driveway to coast into. Had vehicle towed to the shop I've used for 15 years and got the call the engine had seized up!.
Bought on 9-12-2019 with approximately 15,400+ miles. It now has 15,750+ miles. It has stalled/powered off on me twice. First time was oct 7, 2019, parked on the curb when I was picking up my daughter from school, when she got in the car and I was about to drive off from the curbside and when I lifted my foot off the brake and stepped on the gas, the car wouldn't move. I realized the power off so I switched the ignition to off and turned it on again to start the engine again. I thought it was just a little glitch. It happened again on oct 26, 2019 when I was on the drive thru of taco bell. I was waiting in line and again, when I lifted my foot off the brake to move forward, it wouldn't move because the power had just shut off again. I had to restart the engine. I complained to my son about the car but didn't do anything about it because it was past the 7 day exchange or return. But planned to bring it up on my scheduled maintenance unless it happens again. I was always cautious and worried that I will stall in the middle of traffic or worse, while driving. Mostly the reason why I've only driven the car less than 300 miles since I bought it about 4. 5 months ago. Then yesterday morning, Jan 28, 2020, on my errands to two doctor appointments, the passenger seatbelt sign was beeping and flashing the whole time I drove around that day, when there was nobody with me in the car. It finally stopped when in the afternoon when I was close to home and after I picked my prescriptions from the pharmacy close to my house. Now I am curious and wondering why the navy man traded this car in when he'd only had it for la year and spent money on new black rims and blacked out tinted windows. I would like to have an inquiry on what problems the previous owner had with the car because of the short time he owned it and drove it. I'm more terrified to drive after reading other's issues.

Car being driven by my daughter suddenly stopped in the middle of traffic with a pull over and safely shut off vehicle warning. She however could not move. The vehicle also showed an error to the vehicle charging system. We towed the immobile vehicle to the local kia dealership and were told there were no codes and the battery was fine. They requested that I allow them to remove the valve cover to check on belts. I approved. I called the dealership the following day to check in because I have not heard. I was told the hybrid parts were covered under warranty but that the engine was locked up. No reason or explanation, no warning. My child could have died due to her vehicle stopping in the middle of traffic.
I was driving to work, same route same time, when my engine stalled while on the highway going around a curve. "hybrid system failure, pull over and turn off engine" was the error. I was able to coast around the curve and to the side of the highway. Had to tow it off the highway at first, and tried to jump it. (I had a problem in 2017 with the neutral safety switch on my battery, replaced safety switch/battery at the cost of 1k and a month due to the safety switch being an aspect of the recall for the non-hybrid Optimas). Battery was perfect, car was able to turn on, radio, ac, everything but the engine. Towed it to fredy kia (great shop by the way!), by the time it got there, they stated the battery was completely dead. They replaced, then tried to turn the engine both mechanically and by hand. Engine seized per dealership. (I know im an idiot for saying this but. . ) this is not the first kia that this has happened to with the same recall. I had a 2014 kia sportage in January have the exact same problem. All maintenance records (oil changes every 3500 miles, any belts/changes,etc. ) were presented to kia of which they recalled the 2014 sportage engine. With my Optima hybrid (same theta ii engine as the recall for the non-hybrid Optimas per kias own "investigations" since 2017) after contacting kia headquarters, they are stating that this is not the same issue but are willing to "work with me". Since then kia headquarters has talked to the dealership, and my car has been sitting there for almost 3 weeks with 0 response, or update on whats next. I currently both have and dont have a car. Moral of the story, please be careful with these cars! obviously they are flawed (my "seized" engine is no longer manufactured at all due to problems with the barrings, only fix is a short block engine replacement for my long block engine then fabricate the headers, etc. ).
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 kia Optima. The contact stated that while turning into a parking lot the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a wall of the parking lot. The contact was injured having whiplash, the right arm was heavily bruised, the chest was bruised, the right shoulder and arm were bruised from the seat belt. The steering wheel air bag did deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic . The contact was driven to the hospital , treated and released. A police report was not filed but a security officer from the property took a report. The insurance company was informed. The dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted yet. 57,000. Tf.
I bought my kia Optima in 2009, it was 1 yr old at that time. I had to replace my timing belt in March of 2017 and I am having to replace it again. It is may of 2019. My car only has 70,000 miles on the original engine.

I was driving the vehicle on the beltway 495 in maryland and the vehicle came to a stop without any warning on the dash. I attempted to start the vehicle but it wouldn't start. I check the motor, checking the oil stick showing that the vehicle had no oil in it. I never received a warning light about low oil or anything was wrong. I had my cousin bring me some oil. I put four cans of oil in the vehicle and it still wouldn't start. I had to get the vehicle taken off the highway to my cousins house near by. I purchased a new battery thinking that was now the problem. The started to turn over but wouldn't start. The next day I connected a check engine machine to the car, a actron auto scanner #cp 9575but no codes appeared. A friend who in the past raced cars check the motor from the attempting to start and stated it was the bearing in the engine. It would start and again I had no warning lights about the oil or engine before the problem with the engine. I checked the computer an founded out that other kia's had similar problems with the warning lights not coming on to let you know about the oil was low. Kia had a problem with other vehicles 2012-2017 not showing a warning light on the dash.
My 2013 kia Optima displayed several electrical issues with radio panel, warning lights on dash, seat belt warning on while buckled and driving, and doors would lock on their own weeks prior to the car giving out on me after a quarter of a mile drive. It would not start at all. Mechanic thought it was a starter issue but turned out that the engine locked. I purchased the car in 2015 and had some fuel system issue a year after purchase , costing over $900 to repair. Now this. . . There was no smoke or other warnings right before it stopped. I had noticed the smell of wires or some type of electrical components burning after driving the car a few times over the last few years but wasn't sure of where it may have been coming from. Would be great if I didn't have to spend a lump sum to repair motor while still paying off the car!.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at about 20 mph, the vehicle lost power and several lights illuminated on the dash board. The vehicle shut down and was pushed to the side with the help of the state highway patrol. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the timing belt broke and that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any help. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was about 163,000. Fe.

2013 kia Optima. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering to the right the consumer also stated, sometimes the belt made a squeaky noise. He also noticed a slight hesitation when pulling off from a red light or stop sign.
2006 kia Optima needed a new timing belt within the next few thousand + miles (needs to be changed every 60,000 miles or sooner), but one the crankshaft pulley just came off and then the belt came off a couple pulleys because of this. The belt actually looks fine, but the pulley failure caused the belt to come off. This belt runs several things so the initial loose pulley caused the car to lose power steering, battery light to turn on, the a/c failed, etc. , and then the inner part of the pulley came off and the outer ring (magnetized) fell and stuck to part of the car frame that is actually metal. My wife made it to work while the belt had to still be on but loose, and it now sits in her parking spot at her job (hospital parking ramp). I will probably have it towed tomorrow. This could have easily led to an extremely dangerous situation if it happened on the highway. I found the outer part of the lower pulley laying above the car frame close to the engine. If the car drove after this, engine damage would be most likely. I will hopefully have it towed to the nearest kia dealership by tomorrow to see if I just need the pulley and belt or if the engine is damaged. This is unbelievable, because I found many people that had the same issue with the crankshaft pulley bolt breaking off and sometimes causing engine damage immediately afterward. As a consumer, I shouldn't have to go under the vehicle and tighten a factory tightened bolt every now and then. I hope that the newer bolts actually hold like a grade 8 american bolt, because that wouldn't fail. Rubber can't break steel, and I can't believe this obvious oversight by kia hasn't been recalled or in a technical service bulletin!!!!.

I was commuting. I gave my car regular oil changes and tune ups. Then the engine coils went out. The car would not go over forty. Replaced that. Heard funny noises coming from the engine. The car was at 70k at this point. The manufacturers warranty said to replace the timing belt at 110k. So I decided to hold off as that probably wasn't the problem and a manufacturer wouldn't lie to me as they are regulated by the government. Then I am driving and the car dies in the middle of a busy intersection. I get the car towed. The timing belt is changed and there are half the teeth left on the timing belt. How is the car still running you may ask? it is a magical car and is like the little train that could. Then I am driving on a busy scary mountainous highway and the car dies again at a blind corner. No check engine light but there are plenty of cars that want to hit me. The car turns back on. The fear for my life and those around me has subsided for a moment. The car is able to turn back on. . . Somehow. The check engine light stays on. The crank sensor is the problem. The crank sensor was then fixed. This car is a hazard to have on the road. The air bag light has also been on for a year and won't go off. I have had to replace engine coils, door locks, trunk alignments and probably some other things that made me fear for my life. The speedometer also broke and said I was going 0 mph when it was really 80 mph. As of right now the car is running okay. I expect by next October that something will go wrong as that is the month that everything does with this car.
Ref the two previous complaints first. #10170291 & 10208029. This is the 3rd complaint on our 2006 kia Optima lx. On 11/5/07 a new tensioner and drive belt were replaced. This made the 4th attempt to repair the same pulleys & belts system. The problem began @ mileage 5033 in sept 2006. Aprox 16,500 mileage and the problem continues and appears to be getting worse. On 12/5/2007 I took the car to dealership #113211 with same problem. Loud belt squeal at start up and constant chirp while driving. I was given a written receipt that stated the dealership drove the car 5 miles and heard a "slight chirp" coming from the belt area. Tech asst was called and the dealership was advised not to attempt repairs until a "platform manager" was contacted and spoke to service manager. It was put in writing that the car had no drivable issues or safety concerns and released to the owner. I expressed strong concern to the service manager about our reservations driving a car with the pulleys & belts system making such noises. I also explained that we were going out of state on 12/7/07 and would be traveling I-65 south from indianapolis, late at night and without a cell phone. We traveled with the car in the current state of disrepair. The problem has increased. I have expressed this to the dealership on 12/12/07. Since the car was released to me on 12/5/2007, I have heard nothing from the dealership. I have sent a certified letter requesting the car be repaired. The parts put in the car on11/5/2007 are under warranty. Today is 12/19/2007 and I have still not been contacted by kia or the dealership. If the pulleys & belts system fails we I will be left on the road & I do not carry a cell phone. If the car is repaired again this will make the 5th attempt to repair the same problem and the car qualifies for the in lemon law. I have consulted the consumer action handbook which is free to the public and has resources for consumers to involve agencies who take care of these problems for us.
On 11/05/07 our 2006 kia Optima lx was taken is the shop for a fifth time since a squealing noise had appeared again. The car has now had 2 tensioners and three drive belts replaced as of 11/5/2007. I strongly expressed to dealer # 113211 that I wished to have the in state lemon law applied due to the fact a reasonable amount of attempts had been made to repair a nonconformity per ic 24-5-13-10. I was told by the shop manager at dealer 113211, that the car is in working condition after the reaper and the lemon law does not apply to a car that is good working order. I was instructed to let the dealer know if the problem returned. On 11/26/07 the squealing returned. I spoke with kia, I was instructed to take the car to the dealer. I requested a kia rep be present. I was told a rep would not be available until Jan. 08. I requested the dealer to diagnose the car and stop at that point so a decision could be made regarding the in lemon law. I was told by the dealer that unless I sign a repair order to have the car fixed, it can not be diagnosed per kia policy. I was told I had two options. Sign and allow the squeal to be diagnosed and repair if under warranty or not leave the car. I have taken the car out of service as on 11/28/07 with 15,974 miles. It is in my garage. I have sent this matter to the in atty gen office for review. This is the 3rd complaint filed on this car, please ref #10170291 & #10208029 also. It is my understanding that if a tensioner or drive belt fail during operation, I will be left stranded. I do not own or carry a cell phone. I bought a new 2006 car for dependability.
Car purchased new 3/1/2006. At mileage 5,033 and to current 16,675 belts and pulleys problem exists. . The problem has been confirmed by a tech expert that the mfr and customer agreed to allow inspect the car. A recurring drive belt tensioner and drive belt problem still exists after several belts and tensioner have been replaced. . . . . 5 confirmed repairs. It has been expressed to the manufacturer that we do not feel safe driving a car in a state of disrepair. We are afraid the tensioner or belt may fail during operation. If this happens, the motor can be severely damaged. Power steering, water pump and all electrical cease to function. This is the explanation I have from a kia rep on audio. The manufacture claims there are no verifiable warranty concerns and the loud noise at start up and constant squealing and chirping while driving are normal. The kia rep also claims on the audio that these parts have never failed on there cars. The technical expert also confirmed a surging problem still exists even though the mfr states they can not duplicate it. The first time the surge & stall problem was repaired (9/23/2006) it was already a TSB issued by mfr to nhsta in Dec 2004 for model 2006 with regards to a canister vac.
2002 kia Optima lx, VIN#: [xxx] w/ approximately 55,000 miles. My first warranty claim: the replacement of my timing belts. On 9/1/2006, my car stalled while driving. I had a tow truck my car to the service center where I bought my car, bronx automotive group inc. D/b/a, Toyota of the bronx. The manager aggi saratis ended up in an dispute with the tow truck drivers regarding acknowledgment warranty and advised the tow truck driver to remove the vehicle from his premise. My car was towed to the nearest available service shop. The repair was a replacement of the timing belt. My vehicle had 51,720 miles at the time of repair. The timing belt is under warranty up to 60,000 miles. I paid the total invoice from bronxdale auto repair center in the amount of $603. 40. I faxed a copy of the invoice to the service manager on 9/7/2006. I have two witnesses, tow truck drivers, who will confirm that the service team was unprofessional. A tech made a comment to me stating "I do not spend any money here" so why would I expect to claim any warranty. I disagree. I paid for this car! my second warranty claim is the replacement of my transmission. On 3/10/2006, I brought my car to service because my car could not maneuver in reverse. My vehicle at the time had 45,147 miles. On 3/13/2006, service advised me that the entire transmission needed replacement and since they have no service records, this would not be claimed as a warranty. I decided to go back to my mechanic and after further inspection, additional work needed to be done. The invoice total was $1,920. 40. My mechanic further advised me that this vehicle has a product quality defect on the torque converter. In fact, there is over a page and a half of technical service bulletins items!I never received any notice of a recall. I have never had a warranty acknowledged and I feel that the service team is highly unprofessional and unskilled. Considering that I have had these problems before 60,000 miles is suspicious.

Kia motors of America inc. Ref: VIN# knagd12693513835 complaint case number k1056698 formal complaint against Kia Motors of America inc. Not honoring parts and labor warranty & unscrupulous business practices. The timing belt for 2002 kia optimum serviced a year to the day it left me on the road side. It was new years eve the car broke down. New years holiday weekend service department folger kia of charlotte nc closed. Unable to reach them until Tuesday January 3rd, 2006,returned holiday weekend. Told warranty expired December 31st, 2005. That my warranty for the parts & labor would not be guaranteed. Please see the original receipt dated December 31st, 2004 exactly 365 days from when the exact same problem occurred. Bank statement shows my check card cleared $601. 87 on January 3rd 2005. I was instructed all parts & labor would be honored for one year. I returned the car to folger kia on February 22nd 2005 concerns the cars timing may have been improperly set. On the invoice that I was concerned that the rpm's were over their original settings by 1000 rpm. No mention of test drive to diagnose problem listed on invoice December 31st, 2004. Technician stated all readings were normal. This may have contributed to the premature wear & breaking of timing belt. I was instructed January 3rd, 2006 by jeffrey stephens to contact the kia corporate headquarters. Where I was told that gus the service manager folger kia's requested to honor my parts & labor was declined by a mr. Bob strickland. Kia motors of America inc. , their customer note folger kia accepted my money on January 3rd 2005. The car was waiting at the dealership for them to service on Monday 01-02-2006 with the same problem. Motor mounts and pulleys defective. This will be my third time to the shop in less than a month. The pulleys and mounts are bound to cause other damage.
2002 kia Optima experiencing problems with transmission and timing belt. The consumer stated even though the transmission and timing belt was replaced the vehicle still makes a noise.
Vehicle stalled 3 times while driving on the highway. Vehicle was towed to a dealership, who indicated that the timing belt disintegrated, and the crankshaft position sensor went out. The recall 03v067000 wa sissued on the crankshaft position sensor but only for vehicles equipped with a v6 engine. This vehicle was equipped with a v4 engine.
I was driving the vehicle when the battery light came on and then the car started to overheat and then just cut off. I tried to start the vehicle but would not start. Had it towed to kia wich told me it was the pulleys froze up and shredded the belt. Now kia just replaced my engine from the recall. Now I always have the oil changed every 3,000 miles and I take it to the same place everytime now when they changed the engine they said I would need a new alternator but that was it. Not to mention I just had it at kia for a oil change and a free inspection. Which the inspection stated nothing about the belts or pulleys which are supposed to be inspected. So that is twice they missed a worn out idler pulley. Now the mechanic I had looking at it told me it was so worn that it broke off and that there is no way they missed it.
