Engine Exhaust System Problems of Kia Motor Optima

Vehicle consumes oil at high rate. Approximately 5 qts per 3000 miles driven sometimes more often. After new oil is added, acceleration will delay at times, usually when starting from a complete stop. When the vehicle begins moving forward a cloud of bluish/white exhaust will be created. The clouds of exhaust occurs more often just after an oil change or oil is added. Will continue for the first 1000 miles then will become less frequent as more oil is consumed and the amount remaining in the oil pan is lessened. Has occurred since I purchased the car.

My car puts out exhaust and loses power while stepping on the gas peddle. Oil disappears when this happens. Have to put oil in my car about every 2 weeks. Engine light comes on and car won't go. Been in shop 4 times but kia will not fix it correctly because the engine code that they need to fix the engine doesn't come on so I now don't have a car to drive because they say the only fix is a new engine but they won't fix it. On going issue for past 5 months. Same thing everytime. They put a bandage on it and then it lasts for about 2 to 5 weeks and then dies again. Same issue every single time. This happens while the car is in motion and then when it loses power my car just slows down very quickly and won't go. Dangerous/scary when this happens on the freeway. The car also does this bucking where it feels like it is trying to go but won't.

While I went on the highway the acceleration felt very sluggish and had a hard time speeding up to the speed limit. The car only got worse as I went on a street and it felt as though it did not want to go, like it lost most of its power. Turns out something is wrong with the engine but I feel that my car should be under a newer recall but isn�t, as smoke was coming out of the exhaust and the engine light wasn't even on. Somehow the car was out of oil with no light coming on to indicate that and recently about a week ago oil was put in, and weeks prior oil was put in.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. Within five minutes of entering the vehicle, the contact's lips and eyes started to burn and there was a fuel odor inside the cabin. The failures occurred after the contact filled the fuel tank. The contact stated that she could not breathe inside the vehicle and the air made her sick. Medical attention was not received. The contact scheduled a diagnostic appointment at crown kia (5500 34th st n, st. Petersburg, FL 33714, (844) 921-3247). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,439.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds white smoke was present coming from the exhaust pipes. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer peak kia north(1111 s. Gate dr. Windsor CO) who flushed the engine but the failure remained. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced but no service codes were present and the manufacturer had denied the request to replace the engine. The failure mileage was 49,000. My car is not speeding up. Engine problem and the engine is heating up turbocharger, gasket-exhaust pipe, gasket-exaust manif, intercooler.

Bought car brand new at 30k miles whiite smoke starting coming out the exhaust. Took it to kia dealership and they told me I had to furnish all my oil change receipts bc there was sludge in my oil. They told me I needed a new motor, a brand new car?! I would accelerate and the smoke would come out and when I started the car the smoke would come out. Just today my engine light came on and my car started sputtering. I recently went to 2 different kia dealerships and not one sales rep mentioned the recall, nor the other 2 that were related to this vehicle.

At a stop light when I went to accelerate car had a hesitation and smoke came out the exhaust pipe. No engine, or oil light came on. The car drove and ran as it always has. Got home call kia of dayton for an appointment. Took car in, couple days later I was called and told I had sludge built up and needed a new engine and they will submit it to kia for approval. Kia denied repairs. I looked up online and read several complaints with the same exact problem with same year and around same mileage. I even seen where a class action suit was filed over it. Kia is aware of the issue but wont recall nor fix it.

Car was running fine or so I thought and @ 1 week after getting my oil changed there was excessive exhaust/smoke and my son and I thought it might be bad gas or clogged injectors. We drove it to az and back to nv. Car seemed to run ok at that point then my daughter took it to CA and the oil light started flickering on and off and finally the engine light came on. She took it to a jiffylube where they said it had no oil. What?!?!?! the oil was just changed at 47,000 miles. Put 4 qts in and took it aaa to run an engine diagnostic. Said everything was fine according to the code they got and reset the engine light. Wrong again. . Daughter drove away and same problem. Took it back to aaa where they determined it was an internal engine problem and to take it to the dealership. Sludge everywhere in the engine. My car only has 48,000 miles on it and I have the oil changed as scheduled. Waiting to hear what kia is going to do, but from the sounds of the prior complaints, they are not going to honor their warranty. I can¿t afford $5,000+ to replace the engine in my car. This is so ridiculous. They need to honor their warranty for their shitty engines.

The contact owns a 2014 kia Optima. While driving 40 mph, the engine oil warning light illuminated and black smoke emitted from the exhaust. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on multiple occasions where it was diagnosed that the engine oil needed to be replenished. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,550.

Was driving to work(2013 kia Optima appx 32000 miles) as I accelerated to merge on the intestate, a large cloud of smoke came out of the exhaust,there was no indication or any warning, there is no maintenance light to indicate there is a problem with the vehicle. I took the vehicle to my kia dealership they removed the valve cover and was told there is excessive sludge on the engine that I would need a new engine, this is not cover by kia warrenty,after doing several day of research I have discovered that there are many kia owner who are experiencing the same type of problems we are being told that excessive sludge is the cause but most mechanic know that sludge is a symptom not a cause, and what is excessive 1%or 5% who makes that determanition? I have done regular oil changes myself. I contacted the kia home office and am waiting for a reply.

During the second oil change at the dealership, I indicated that the vehicle's exhaust was very strong and was coming into the vehicle both at speed and while sitting. The service technician stated that the vehicle needed to have only premium fuel in it to stop the issue. The owners manual does not state that this is the case but in order to prevent the strong exhaust, we switched to only use premium fuel which prevented the majority of the strong fumes but not all. In getting the vehicle's third oil change, the oil was extremely dirty and the service technician stated that he had seen no reason why a vehicle of such low mileage should have oil anywhere near the condition that it did.

Strong smell of exhaust inside passenger area of car. Smell by 4 of 5 passengers. Car was a rental, so I do not know the VIN ore even the model year. With < 10,000 total vehicle miles, it may have been a 2012. I did find this note online regarding a similar problem wtih Hyundai sonata, that may or not be related. ( fyi-my 2011 sonata smells like exhaust inside the cab of the car unless I keep the button pushed for "inside air circulation". I called the dealer and as it turns out, this is a common problem with this model. A hose has to be replaced on the exhaust system. Hyundai is aware of the problem because many people have complained about the same issue.
